Review from Roanna Z.
Driving up 101 just South of Fort Bragg we first spotted Ananse Village, maybe 5 or 6 years ago. We burned rubber on the highway and U-turned into the parking lot.
Last night we stayed in Fort Bragg again, mainly with the intention of stopping by today. This was our fourth visit.
The place has tripled in size since our first visit. It's like the jackpot of all things African and other international goods. A wonderful trek around the world under one roof.
Ananse has the largest inventory of Djembe drums and global fabrics that I have ever seen anywhere. You could spend two hours in there, and you will!
Jewelery, African clothing, wood carvings, Moroccan ceramics to drool for, decorative lamps and wall carvings, rugs, oh yeah and African beads too.
This is a fair trade operation. It started small and grew into what it is today because of the dedication of the owners who visit Ghana annually, meeting the craftspeople personally and hand picking the art found at the shops.
Yes, that was meant to be pluralized ;-) as there is another shop right in town, more of a boutique. To be more factual there are three shops altogether, one in Ghana.

Review from Nicole M.
We went into Ananse with no expectations and went away with lots of great new things. They have a plethora of beads, fabrics, housewares, furniture, and other good stuff from around the world. They also have an extensive selection of jewelry, interesting books, some clothing, musical instruments, and nice accessories. All of it fair trade. Needless to say, I could have spent a small fortune. The owner is super friendly and went out of her way to be helpful. We wil definitely go back on our next trip to Fort Bragg.

History
Established in 2001
Ananse Village was inspired after our family traveled to Ghana in 2000. We met with numerous wonderful people; remarkably talented craftspeople that were living in fairly compromised conditions, some of which could have been helped with an infusion of money. School fees to be paid, medical expenses, a pair of shoes, a school notebook, tools, vitamins, a soccer ball, other situations which would seem trivial to us but made a huge difference to the people in Ghana. Because of my experiences in the retail sector and Paajoe's connections in West Africa, we figured that helping out by importing these products would make a difference in many people's lives (both in Fort Bragg and in West Africa)
