Its all about the guacamole, baby!!
After our first visit to this upscale tex-mex eatery in Southlake, it became my wife's go-to for fresh, table-side guacamole ("Guacamole en Molcajete"). Fresh ingredients mixed lovingly to the diner's exact proportions (my wife, for example, nixes the onions and adds extra jalapenos and lime), are the key here. Its generous proportions are sufficient to satisfy your entire party.
While I have had and enjoyed the tender and flavorful brisket tacos ("Tacos a la Mexicana"), my particular favorite here are the Fajitas Picante - warm, tender beef or chicken smothered with fried onions and queso. My mouth is watering just writing this.
So if your heading to Southlake Town Center, or if you just want some damn fine mexican food a decent prices, make a stop at Anamia's! -

I'd stretch it to 3.5. I can't really add anything to what other people said. Their food was fine..nothing standout to me. I didn't leave feeling regretful like we had a bad meal but I also didn't leave thinking wow that was good stuff!! I didn't care much for the bar area...the seats are so low compared to the tables, you feel like you're sitting in a booster seat already but it's too low! We'd heard/read to get the tableside guac..meh. Ours needed salt and pepper and he asked if we wanted it spicey..we said YES. Nope..not spicey. Once my food started to cool..all the cheese got hard and all congealie (yeah I know it's not a word) and so I had to end my tepid love affair with the enchilada.
I think I'll stick to my favs for pretentious overpriced tex mex ;) -

Average Tex-Mex. Still looking for the perfect place, but Anamia's will fill the void for now.

This place is nice. Nice staff and good queso. I can't remember how the salsa was...obviously it wasn't good or bad enough for me to remember.

Had dinner at this place last Saturday evening. The food was avarage at best. The service was ok. The prices are too high for avarage Tex Mex.

The food here is a little pricey for standard tex-mex, but overall is of decent quality. The waiters both times I have gone manage to get my order wrong (wrong sauce on enchiladas, wrong kind of fajitas), and the bartender doesn't seem to know anything about tequila or how to serve it.
The ambiance was dark but otherwise fairly plain. I felt as if they kept it dark to hide the lack of decoration, because it definitely did not help it feel intimate.
If you want tex-mex in the Southlake area I suggest avoiding this place and going across the street to Cristinas. -
Review from Julie S.
We weren't sure what we wanted for dinner, but we did know that with it being so hot outside we sure as heck weren't cooking -- suddenly I remembered this place and suddenly we had a plan.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, no cheesy Terra cotta here! OUr server was very polite and helped us choose our meal:
Beef fajita and Brisket Quesadillas (half order). I really liked the expansive menu AND that you can order their quesadillas in full or half orders.
The food came out quickly and smelled divine; the quesdillas were a bit greasy, but they tasted like they came from heaven. The brisket was tender and seasoned perfectly. The fajitas were good as well, but they didn't hold a candle to the quesadillas. -

Solid tex-mex restaurant. The guacamole made at the table to your specifications is a winner.
The chips and salsa are yummy, and not super spicy.
Check out the Rickey's Tacos and the Pollo Primavera. The fajitas are good, too. -
Review from Dan D.
I think the people that have rated Anamia's poorly (poorly being 2 stars or less) are being a little picky when it comes to Tex-Mex in the North DFW area. I agree with Michael in that in this area, when it comes to good Mexican food, there isn't a lot to choose from that will blow you away.
The chips were nice and light and crispy, and the salsa tasted fresh and it definitely had a kick to it. The chips are definitely memorable and the queso has a nice authentic taste to it.
I have only been there for lunch and you really can't beat their prices, typically $6 to $7 an entree from the lunch menu and the service is very fast and competent. I always order the #6 which is the pork tamale platter with 1 chicken enchilada served with rice and beans. The tamales are a bit rough and the enchilada is what you'd expect from a decent tex-mex restaurant. I don't think there's much to Anamia's that makes it stand out from the rest, but it's a good affordable option if you are in the pricey Southlake area looking for a solid mexican restaurant.
**TIP**
Do not order the Soapapilla! I ordered it this afternoon as a matter of fact, and I took one bite and refused to finish it. It was not good at all. I even drenched it in honey, but it was to no avail...yuck. They have a coconut ice cream desert with hot kalula drizzled over the top that was offered, but I didn't take it figuring no restaurant could get a soapapilla wrong.
**2ND TIP**
It is very busy at lunch with an uncomfortably small waiting area, so try and get there before noon to not have to be awkwardly standing close to the door with your butt facing the "all-glass-window" wall that everyone can see from the outside. -

My 2 excellent girlfriends, meet here for dinner about once a month or so.
FOOD:
First off the salsa has a kick. If you haven't ordered water yet, then don't eat the salsa. For me, it's hot. I mean I am a yankee, so everyone at the table generally laughs at me, but really, it has a kick. What my friends and I go for is the table side Guacamole. It's TO DIE FOR! The do it good, and the make you a vat of it. I mean the bowl is as big as your head, and I think that's how I want my guacamole. They let you pick the level of spicy too. So for me that is good. Now, the rest of the food is good too. Their beef tacos have good meet and they they garnish well. I haven't had anything there I didn't like. I recently had the brisket quesadillas and there were AWESOME. AND the best part was that I got to get a half order so I wouldn't eat 12 of them.
SERVICE:
I will have to say the service is good. They are good about bringing you more drinks, such as swirls, and beer. They are quick to get your food and if you give them special instructions, they get it right. I enjoy that, because who needs pico? Not me!
ATMOSPHERE:
Its nice, but you can dress casual. It dim lit. The booths are comfortable though. -

Food is ok. Guacamole is fabulous. Service is really good.
Too many people as well as kids at the bar. Hot sauce is fiery to the point I can't taste the flavor. Shredded beef meat was really good.
I prefer uncle julios though. -

I have been to all three Anamias.. and this is the best one, in my opinion.
I had the fish tacos - yum times ten! It comes with rice and bean soup... I repeat, Yum Times Ten.
On this visit, we got the table side guaca-holy-mole, this stuff was good. (Im going to attempt to make some at home... I was watching very carefully.)
I have had a few of their lunch specials too - all quite delicious.
The only thing Im not a fan of is the salsa... and this is the reason - I moved from Florida, and their salsa is WAY different... Ive been to lots of salsa serving places in Tx and they are all very similar, they are kinda hot too. I miss my FL salsa. -

Without a doubt, the brisket tacos at Anamia's are probably the best tacos in DFW. I think they go by something like the Tacos a la Mexicana, so look for that title or read the descriptions, but whatever you do, order them.
You get three flour tortillas that have been cooked to a slight crisp filled with wonderfully tender, juicy (not spicy) brisket, melted cheese, caramelized onions and poblano peppers. Three will get you wicked full so share if you can.
The rice and beans are decent, nothing to write home about, so opt for the table-side guacamole and make that your side. Mild to them is very mild, so go with medium or spicy if you like a little heat in your guac. Interesting observation on the guac, by the way: they use tomatoes, white onions and I didn't see them put lime juice in. Still good, just an observation if you're a guac aficionado.
Also, Anamia's is one of those odd places that serves canned sodas opposed to fountain. So if you're a "refill please" kind of person, order the tea.
And the Bloody Mary's have a little bit of a kick but are darn good. -

Yeeeehawww! Y'all want some savory and fresh tex-mex?
Y'all want a guacamole cart rolled to your table and have it made fresh "your way" in front of you?
Y'all want to drink strong, not sickeningly sweet margaritas?
Ya'll want to try brisket filled tacos?
Y'all want to get so full on chips and food you need your stomach stapled after?
Yeah me too! It was good! Thank God I don't live here so I can't eat like this all the time. No wonder everyone is bigger in Texas! Wah wah! -

Bland. Ingredient quality isn't particularly good. Lots of grease. Little if anything has any spiciness to it.
The guacamole is freshly made, which is deserving of some praise, although it still manages to underimpress. -

Good margaritas and excellent guacamole made tableside, but other than that, there isn't much about Anamia's that impresses me.
The menu is large and has a wide variety, but I have yet to find an entree that has impressed me. -

It's a good lunch spot, but the food isn't wildly amazing, It's normal i guess. The chips and salsa are the reason I am giving it 3 stars, at least they have something going for them. I love their chips and salsa and that's what gets me in the door. Their lunch prices are good also, around $6 to $7 for a normal entree.
I had grilled fajita chicken over rice with a cheese enchilada. It was alright. -

Anamia's gets a 4 star rating mainly because of its table side guac. Yes, it's that good. Not sure why it is (it's just avacados right?), but it will have brother fighting brother to the last bite.
The rest of the food is about 3 star worthy. I'm not as big of a fan of it as the rest of my family (they catered my grandparent's 50th anniversary party), but I do think it is good.
The brisket tacos are their signature (how many mexican restaurants are we allowing to claim that?) and they are good. -

Found this restaurant very clean, very efficient service. Chips were good, salsa so so, queso so so. Biggest issue is food quality. I had the Chilaquilles and the eggs were burnt! Hard to screw up scrambled eggs, but they did. My wife ordered Cheese Enchiladas, and the tortillas they used were dry. She also said the cheese was not that good -- a "choky" cheese that gets too stringy and chokes you.
Not terrible food (except the Chilaquilles), but just very so so. I might add that the flan was pretty good (again not great, but pretty good).
I would go back if I had to -- not terrible as I said before -- but would never pick that as a 1 - 10 choice. More than likely, I will never go back. -

I'm a fan of the guacamole made at your table -- 3 avocados worth -- and the chicken tortilla soup. Just those two items will fill you up.

Well Preston I must respectfully disagree with your liking of the salsa, thats the low point of this place to me, everything else is great, granted, not worth raving about, but really, if you live in Southlake or Grapevine and are looking for some good Mexican food nearby, what are your options? And Chris F: I'd like to know what amazing Mexican food youve eaten to give this place 2 stars, I mean really, the only place that can top this is Uncle Julio's, otherwise, there isn't much good quality, consistent restaurants in the DFW area, and if you find one that gets gold, please let me know.

Chili con queso is just Velveeta cheese. Enchiladas verdes were overdone. Margaritas were ok. Chips and salsa were good. Staff was friendly.

Try the brisket tacos or queso flameado con chorizo. The regular queso (likely from a can) is terrible. Great place for lunch as they get you in and out quickly...or stop by for margaritas at happy hour, but be forewarned that they are pretty strong. Also recommend the tableside guacamole.

I used to eat here once a month because my clients visiting from the midwest loved it. The chips and salsa are very good and I love the fresh guacamole they make at your table (I didn't know so many other places had that on the menu). The rest of the food is decent but nothing special to me. You have all your basic enchiladas, fajitas, tacos etc. but I never found anything that stood out. After all, we do live in Texas, so I demand brilliance when it comes to Tex-Mex. Prices are fair and service is very prompt.

Mine and my wife's favorite Tex-Mex Restaurant. Hot sauce is good queso is great! When we go we get the combo fajita's for one and split it. After chowing down on chips, salsa, and queso the fajita's is just enough to make us miserable! And ordered with water brings you in under $20! That's what I like!

The brisket tacos here rank in the top 5 tastes I've ever experienced. Fantastic food and margaritas make this my favorite Tex-Mex place in the DFW area.

As Mexican food places go, this is one of the better ones. There is even an exquisite smell when you walk in that gets you salivating immediately. The salsa is served cold and while it is not my favorite, it does have a nice bite to it which I like. The brisket tacos are definitely as tasty as everyone has stated but maybe a little on the small side, although they are packed with meat. The chili con carne covering my shredded beef enchilada and pork tamale is some of the best I've had. Nice and spicy. The service is friendly and attentive and that is almost as important to me as the food. And even better. For the portions of food that are served, the prices are very reasonable.

Review from Ryan B.
I'm disappointed that it took me years to finally go to Anamia's. Southlake isn't known for 'good' food, and 'just another Tex-Mex' is just what we all need (sarcasm). They've cornered the market on high school football and McMansions, but any restaurant with entrees north of $25 quickly disappears (see Michael Anthony's). I was pleasantly surprised with Anamia's. Both of the dishes I tried were very good renditions of popular entrees you can get at many D/FW TexMex places. Brisket tacos were generously stuffed with soft beef brisket stuffed in three flour tortillas ($11.99). The shrimp brochette was as good as Uncle Julio's (my No. 1 standard), but without the jalapeno (?), and they were covered in a nice-and-melty Mexican cheese blend instead of the melted butter. I wasn't even hungry and I totally gorged on the entire plate. The margaritas were good with an adequate amount of tequila. The only downside is I bet this place could get really loud because it's just one large room with tile floors.

Years ago, my first impression of Anamia's was that it was way overrated. Recently, I decided to give them another try. The food is very good. The tables side guacamole is very good and fresh. Hot Sauce is spicy but very good. I really like the enchilada dinners. They are true Tex-Mex. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We had a waiter who threw his hands in the air when we asked for a drink refill. I am going to assume there was a communication problem between us because he reacted in a way that stunned me. The manger brought our food to the table and we told him of the incident and also mentioned that the table side guacamole never came. He was very apologetic. He spoke with his staff about the issues with our lunch and was very accommodating from that point on. He apologized again and gave us a discount for our trouble. As we were leaving he politely asked us to give them another try and that he personally would make sure our next experience was pleasant. I think we'll go back since he seemed to value his customers!
