Great Mexican food, attentive service, generous portions and an extensive bar.  The tacos, burritos and tortas are some of the best you can find.  Those items easily make for a 4 star rating.  What pushes it to 5 stars are the the Mayan dishes featured on the menu.  A little spicier, a bit bolder, these dishes add a nice variety to the regular fare you would expect to from a regular Mexican restaurant.  If you like Carne Asda, try the Anahouc steak on broiled cactus or the Cessina Adobada marinated in vinegar and spices.  Favor pork? Cochinita Pibil, slow roasted chunks marinated in citrus with a spicy bite. Seafood?Camarones  Enrolladas feature prawns wrapped in bacon and deep fried.

The owners are very involved with the customers, constantly moving among the tables and making sure you have everything you need.

Somewhere between two and three stars.  The food wasn't bad, but it was typical refried beans with orange cheese on top, American style Mexican food.  I had Pollo ala Crema con Chipotle, which gets some style points, as I've never seen that dish with added chipotle on a menu before.  Sadly, the sauce didn't have mushrooms or onions in it though.

Unfortunately, the service was pretty terrible, especially considering there was hardly anyone in the place.  Never got the glass of water I asked for... Really?  That's like a cardinal sin.  Both of the servers that came to the table seemed kind of shy, and generally disappointed to have customers.

I MIGHT go again, just to try one of their more "exotic" mayan/aztec themed dishes, but based on the pictures they didn't look to be anything that spectacular.  I wanted to like this place, but they really didn't blow me away at all, and we have a lot of great Mexican places in Tacoma, so you really need to go the extra mile to impress in my opinion.

This place is a hidden goldmine. Outstanding service, great food, delicious margaritas, a unique menu and a warm atmosphere that will make you keep coming back. The owners are husband and wife and each work at the restaurant 7 days a week. It's rarely busy unfortunately because of the location (being on a stretch of Pacific Avenue that gets passed by without noticing) but believe me, once you discover it, you'll keep coming back.

This place has an extensive menu that you wont find at other Mexican restaurants so it's a great place to be daring and try new things. We've tried almost half of them and have yet to be disappointed. Give it a try and support a local family owned business!

Oh, and happy hour is all day Thursdays. Just saying.

My husband and I were starving and happened to be driving along Pacific when we spotted this place.  It was early lunch time and no one was there yet, but we didn't care...we just wanted  food.  We were happily surprised by the quality and portion size.  We split a combo appetizer as our meal and couldn't finish it.  If you're in the neighborhood, I would definitely try this place out!

Anahuac is a great restaurant that deserves some positive feedback. They have great food, perfect margaritas, friendly attentive staff, hard working owners, and reasonable prices. What more could you want in a family Mexican restaurant? They also have a spacious bar with expertly crafted drinks and plenty of Cerveza to chose from. The price is right and you'll leave with a smile. Go in and expect a memorable dining experience.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Tacoma.

My wife and I have been looking for a nice Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood and came across this one.  From the outside it looks like a small closed business, but the inside is spacious, clean, great staff and even better food.  The price is less then the Azteca and El Toro's and the food is way better.

Good food, their salsa verde is brilliant. A bit pricey and what little "atmosphere" they've got is killed by the too bright cafeteria style lighting. Service is usually very good.

Under par atmosphere in my opinion, Salsa is decent. Food is decent. What more is there to say?

I came here with my Grandparents on a late afternoon one Friday.  The place had one other table with 3 people which made me a little suspicious to the quality of the place, but as soon as we came in the door we were seated promptly.  The waitress was very helpful and brought us to begin with chips, salsa, and green mole which was pretty tasty.  My Grandparents both ordered the tostado salads with beef, and they thoroughly enjoyed them.  I ordered the steak fajita; now if you haven't ordered a fajita before you don't know the pleasure of a sizzling hot skillet mounded with steak, green and red peppers, tomatoes, and onions.  It came to the table steaming and piping hot, just the way it should.  I ordered the flour tortillas, and they came steaming hot too.  Add rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole, and when all was said and done there was still half a skillet of fajitas left.
Parking was great for the time it was, the decor was interesting to look at (they have a mini Mayan temple in the dining room), and the music was traditional but not overpowering.   It's a bit out of the way for me, but if I lived in Tacoma I might make it a regular spot.
