My best friend in Sacramento has cut my hair for years and years, but recently changed jobs. I tried a couple of different places in Reno, one with so-so results (the lady seemed terrified about cutting my hair -- it was pretty long at the time), and another with a great, though flakey stylist who later just disappeared.
I made an appointment, and wound up with Stephanie, one of the owners. The salon is small, but very cute and nicely decorated. And Stephanie was personable, sweet, and a lot of fun. She understood what I wanted right away, and did a great job executing my cut. I look forward to many happy years of great haircuts!
The pricing is more than fair, as well. I paid the same price at JC Penney salon and didn't get nearly the quality of service. I can't recommend Epic Salon highly enough.
What can I say that hasn't been said already! I go to Tess, but I would trust any of the girls there with my hair. Its really a great vibe, relaxed, fun, awesome stylists. And the prices are not insane, like they COULD charge.
If I stopped eating out so much, I might be able to afford to have Tess do some crazy ish with my color!
I have been putting off finding a stylist in Reno for a long time. Always makes me nervous cuz you never know when you are going to have a tragic experience.
I called Epic because of the reviews on Yelp. Have to say I was very pleased. Blair gave me a wonderful cut and color. I had no idea what I really wanted and she gave me great suggestions. I am definitely going back to her.
Epic is a small salon with lots of energy and great people. Bring plenty of quarters though - street parking only with meters.
I finally broke up with my stylist after 2 years of hair abuse. I got up the courage to call Epic after seeing them on Yelp and I couldn't be happier! I saw Jessica and honestly, she gave me the best cut and color i've ever had. I feel like a new woman. And the prices are so reasonable. I called yesterday and they had no problem getting me in today. Everyone there seems super friendly. I'm so happy i've found a relationship that finally works. Hair relationship that is.
So I researched salons online and decided on An Epic after reading reviews here and somewhere else. I called for an appointment and was able to get two back-to-back appointments (for myself and my man) on 2 day's notice. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately and everyone was super nice.
Our stylist is named Heather and meeting her was like meeting a kindred spirit. She's sweet and so up! She really listened to my desires and concerns and made sure I was completely satisfied before she let either of us out of her chair. She's been available at the last minute a couple of times for cuts for my man when he had important meetings coming and needed a trim. Most of all, we've both been extremely happy with the way our hair looks.
Bottom line: the salon is clean, the price is right, and the attitude is only positive!

I had my hair done by Stephanie last week for my birthday and she did a great job. I feel very comfortable in this little place with a lot of friendly people. Very fun and very hip. Today I went back because I wasn't crazy about how the color was settling in, and Stephanie made time to fix it AND straighten my hair! So nice! Plus she's fun to talk to, which is a big deal for me because I'm horrible at small talk and usually end up with my nose buried in a magazine so that I don't have to think of what to say to my hairdresser. But I had a good time with Stephanie...highly recommended!
You know how when you go into a salon, and come out looking like an angel from heaven handcrafted the perfect hair for you? We'll you would if you came here! Blair did awesome. They were all super cool. Everyone walked out with awesome hair. I kinda felt like a knob walking in with a standard haircut chain style, but that's why I went there. I called and got an appointment time 2 hours later as I had to come from Carson City. Everywhere else just asks what you want. I didn't know what I wanted. I knew i wanted something trendy, but that I could wear conservatively at the office.
Poof! She created my hair like a genie from a bottle. Now I need to figure out what to use my other two wishes on.
Coming from San Francisco, I was worried about finding a decent stylist in Reno. Stephanie and the crew at An Epic Salon put any concerns right out of my head - they are definitely on the level of any upscale salon in a major metro city!
Stephanie gave me a fantastic cut (8 weeks of growth and it still looks great!) and everyone else I saw while I was there were also looking hot. The stylists are funky, but down-to-earth and the vibe in the place is hip, but relaxed. This cool little salon is a must, whether you're hipster, indie, punk, or even a soccer mom!
The only caveat is to be prepared for the street/meter parking since it is located downtown.
Epic Salon is a small trendy boutique salon that specializes in creating unique hairdos for women and men. If you plan on going make sure you bring change for the meter or you park at the Sands Casino lot.
When I first went in and had Tess cut my hair to a choppy black bob... which was a haircut I was finally going back to after attempting to grow my hair out long. She had excellent skill and it was obvious when she was cutting my hair she was at ease working a funky hipster do into fruition.
Although, I only got a cut (which at the time of this review is $35), she also washed/dried and styled my hair with recommendations on how to use a straight iron (which I had never used). Besides the cut being the best bob since Hair Dooz (in Los Angeles), I also found her service and attitude very positive and the experience overall was fantastic.
Since my first cut, I've gone back again for a shorter crisper look, Tess was on point again, and I look forward to my maintenance cuts when they come.
I am very happy to have found a place that easily rates with the best salons in L.A.

I have really curly hair and have not found anyone that I trust more with cutting and coloring it than Tess. She is the best and is just a delight to talk to while having my hair done. I would and do refer them to everyone I know and meet.
I ran into Jessica by accident at a different salon long ago. She is a great hairstylist and a fun person to talk to.
I went to her for a hair cut once and I've been a loyal customer ever since. I've never been to the same person more than once except for Jessica. I'll go to her for as long as she cuts hair, thanks Jessica.

I live in San Francisco where you would think there would be lots of great stylists, right? Well, apparently I've tried ALL the wrong ones, because all I've weathered more horrible 100 dollar hair cuts than one person should. I found An Epic Salon through my future sister-in-law and I am beyond pleased with my haircut! Tess, one of the owners, got me in semi-last minute (at least by bay area standards) and did a fabulous job! I gave her only vague guidelines of what I wanted and she transformed my plain jane locks into a fun new style! As a bonus, the prices are totally reasonable! I am so excited to finally have a salon to call my own!
I've been going to Stephanie since before she opened Epic and she is awesome. I always feel pampered and relaxed there.
Stephanie is one of the most intuitive stylists I've ever known. Every time I go in thinking I want a change, but I'm not quite sure what I want, she somehow knows exactly what I wanted even before I do.
In addition to her obvious skills as a hair stylist, everyone at An Epic Salon knows how to treat customers. They're fun and sweet and attentive. Always a great experience.
I have been going to Tess now for over a year, so this review is long overdue! All of the ladies at Epic are talented professionals who will do your hair as conservatively or as wild as you please. You will definitely be strutting your stuff and admiring your window reflection as you leave this fantastic salon.
Confessions of a (former) Stylist Whore...yes, my friends like to tease me for the number of stylists I've been through since moving to the Truckee-Reno area (at least 12 in 5 yrs) but what can I say? I was looking for the Holy Grail perfect combination of cut/color. Well thank Baby Jesus, I found it with Tess at An Epic Salon! Don't be intimidated by the cool tatted chicks working there with their funky hair, these girls can do conservative/classic too, if that's your style. Tess has cut my thick, wavy hair in long layers with sweepy bangs and recently, a modified bob with piece-y bangs (which I love). She uses less product to style it than any stylist I've ever used (which means you don't need an arsenal of stuff at home) and she's styled my hair both straight and curly (since my lazy butt doesn't flat-iron 90% of the time). The color is always gorgeous, too--perfect subtle high and lowlights.
Trust me--Tess has made me monogamous at last.
Echoing what Suzanne said...fabulous! I was in fear of becoming a stylist whore...living in three states in three years...OMG! Just moved here from AZ and was frantic to find a new stylist...did some research on Yelps and CitySearch and decided to go for it! Super happy with the end result!! Vibe, energy, ambiance was nice and the crew was super friendly...cut and color rocked!! I added Tess to my contacts and hope to live happily ever after!
An Epic Salon is the Queen of all Salons. The staff and owners are awesome and fun. The vibe is cool and the music is great. Never feel out of place at An Epic Salon.
Jessica S. cuts my hair and has for years. I now drive 2.5 hours to see her. Worth the drive. She is the best you can ask for. Cut, color, conversation. Jessica is the best.
I love Epic Salon! I went there based on Yelp reviews and as usual the experience was just as, no, even better than described. I am only in Reno for six weeks and was thinking about possibly foregoing a cut and coming back fuzzy to my regular barber. At the same time I am working here and need to look professional. With slight trepidation I booked an appointment with Tess who is also half owner of the shop. She ended up being super cool and I am exceedingly happy with my cut. The only problem is that after I leave Reno I am going to have to search out someone who lives up to this new high standard! Thank you Tess! I'm sure I will be back before I leave town!

I'm from Northern California and was vacationing in Reno. Found EPIC from google and am I impressed. Small shop in downtown, within walking distance of all casinos. Stephanie was great. I had no picture but explained that I wanted a short version of Victoria Beckham and she DID IT, perfect. I have already received compliments!! Don't hesitate if you want a new up to date look!!!
As a picky guy, It takes alot to find a salon to cut hair exactly the way you want it. My search is over! Epic Salon is the best by far in Creativity, Knowledge of styles, perfection,And all out awesome environment. The Women who put forth the ass busten hours to make all of us look like movie stars, are what put the icing on the cake. Their goal is to make you feel comfortable in a new aged , vivacious, real environment. I am almost thirty, but beginning to show gray, The beauticians have kickass ideas for all types of hair styles and colors. I dig my color and fade big time. If your a dude looking for a hot look to step out down town, call and make an appointment.
