After paying through the nose at Tangerine, and them not getting the color right after 2 attempts, I found Stephanie. She's awesome. The asymmetrical cut and two color dye is consistent and just what I wanted. And lemonade during the hot summer was a nice added bonus.

As perhaps many guys are, I have had, in the past, a tendency to be promiscuous with my hair stylists. Honestly, they seemed mostly interchangeable...some less competent than others, but whatevs.
But that was the pre-Epic epoch! I am now fanatically loyal. My hair has never been cut so well, so quickly, so cheaply. Melissa is a-ma-zing. I am in-and-out in 20 minutes max, only $20 (+tip) lighter. And I can talk to her about weightlifting!! IMHO, the perfect "Salon" type place for a guy.
In summary,
Pros: Low Cost, high quality, short cut time, cool stylists
Cons: uh...well, they don't have a receptionist, so trying to get ahold of this place is IMPOSSIBLE!!! I mean, really bad. My advice? Just stop by some evening and make an appointment. It's worth it. -

Like another guy mentioned in his review here, I've never really felt loyal to barbers. I'm easy to please-- short on the sides, a little longer on top-- which is why I was so frustrated that getting a haircut this week seemed like a comedy of errors. It should't have been that hard to schedule a haircut with a couple of days notice, but it was. Finally, I decided to turn to Yelp! I don't know why I didn't think to check Yelp! for haircuts before, but I'm sorry I didn't.
I was a bit leery, as the photos on the website show off the complicated, artistic work they do, and was afraid a regular guy's cut would be a waste of their time. Boy was I wrong. Even though one of the other stylists called in sick, Tess went out of her way to squeeze me into her tight schedule. I told Tess about how challenging it was to get a haircut this week, and she immediately recognized an opportunity to turn the situation around and earn my loyalty. Tess loves her job and it shows. I got a great haircut, and I now have a standing appointment. Plus, at $15, it's cheaper than most of the cheapo chains and shitty barbers. -

I got yet another amazing cut and color from Steph at Epic. I was beginning to think that I had some sort of curse that wouldn't allow me to get more than one decent service from a stylist before it turned to disaster, but Steph has either broken the curse or all the other stylists that came before her in Reno are just hacks. I don't care which it is, because I have Steph and I love love love her!
She was also super awesome when I had to cancel my appointment the night before because of babysitter issues. And then she so very graciously offered to come in on her day off to accommodate me on the one free day I had before I left on vacation so that my hair would look gorgeous in the photos. I have been putting off finding a stylist in Reno for a long time. Always makes me nervous cuz you never know when you are going to have a tragic experience.
I called Epic because of the reviews on Yelp. Have to say I was very pleased. Blair gave me a wonderful cut and color. I had no idea what I really wanted and she gave me great suggestions. I am definitely going back to her.
Epic is a small salon with lots of energy and great people. Bring plenty of quarters though - street parking only with meters. -

In February my stylist of 5 years moved to Sonora, CA. I have very short hair and need it cut every 4-6 weeks. My friend told me I should go to An Epic Salon. That it was my kind of place. I said "No, I think I'm going somewhere else." Got my hair cut in April, it was fine but nothing special. A month later I called to schedule an appointment for the 1st week of June. Was told she didn't have anything until July and she'd call if she got a cancellation. A week later I was starting to look like some long-haired hippie freak. I was getting desperate! I called my friend to get the number to An Epic Salon, she told me I needed to see Heather. I called, my appointment was scheduled for the next week.
It's was easy to find (especially if you visit The Imperial on a regular basis) but you do have to park on the street. Sad face. I was Heather's last appointment of the day but I didn't have to wait, she had me in her chair right on time!! No waiting around in the reception area for 20 minutes staring at shelves of hair care products.
It took about 5 minutes for me to realize I was absolutely and completely in love!! I got a cut and all over color. She did a get job. My hair looked awesome.
I've seen Heather 3 times now. She's easy to get an appointment with. The wait usually isn't too long. And she's really easy to talk to. I'm glad I found her. -

Coming from San Francisco, I was worried about finding a decent stylist in Reno. Stephanie and the crew at An Epic Salon put any concerns right out of my head - they are definitely on the level of any upscale salon in a major metro city!
Stephanie gave me a fantastic cut (8 weeks of growth and it still looks great!) and everyone else I saw while I was there were also looking hot. The stylists are funky, but down-to-earth and the vibe in the place is hip, but relaxed. This cool little salon is a must, whether you're hipster, indie, punk, or even a soccer mom!
The only caveat is to be prepared for the street/meter parking since it is located downtown. -

I'm having a hard time typing this review because I can't stop looking in the mirror at my GORGEOUS hair! La la la....
I had my hair done by Stephanie last week for my birthday and she did a great job. I feel very comfortable in this little place with a lot of friendly people. Very fun and very hip. Today I went back because I wasn't crazy about how the color was settling in, and Stephanie made time to fix it AND straighten my hair! So nice! Plus she's fun to talk to, which is a big deal for me because I'm horrible at small talk and usually end up with my nose buried in a magazine so that I don't have to think of what to say to my hairdresser. But I had a good time with Stephanie...highly recommended! -

I recently went into Jessica for a color correction and cut. I decided to check epic out after reading such great reviews on this very site, and let me say I was so happy with the job Jessica did! My hair looks amazing and she was friendly and very witty and fun! I will be going back to her again for sure!

My hair looks great. For the first time in quite some time. And also for the first time in quite some time my hairdresser HAD FUN while she was doing my hair. (Which is important to me, because I spend a lot of money to let someone touch this beautiful head of hair.)
I came in with a clean slate, and Stephanie did an AMAZING job beautifying that slate. I didn't really have anything in particular in mind, which is normally how I roll when it comes to my hair. I like to go in, say, "My general aura needs to be (fill in the blank)." Today it was a little edgy, but a little professional. I was in very capable hands with Stephanie.
Everyone here is very nice, and very easy to talk to. A very comfortable and cozy place to go and have a great time getting your hair done. -

My best friend in Sacramento has cut my hair for years and years, but recently changed jobs. I tried a couple of different places in Reno, one with so-so results (the lady seemed terrified about cutting my hair -- it was pretty long at the time), and another with a great, though flakey stylist who later just disappeared.
I made an appointment, and wound up with Stephanie, one of the owners. The salon is small, but very cute and nicely decorated. And Stephanie was personable, sweet, and a lot of fun. She understood what I wanted right away, and did a great job executing my cut. I look forward to many happy years of great haircuts!
The pricing is more than fair, as well. I paid the same price at JC Penney salon and didn't get nearly the quality of service. I can't recommend Epic Salon highly enough. -

Epic Salon is a small trendy boutique salon that specializes in creating unique hairdos for women and men. If you plan on going make sure you bring change for the meter or you park at the Sands Casino lot.
When I first went in and had Tess cut my hair to a choppy black bob... which was a haircut I was finally going back to after attempting to grow my hair out long. She had excellent skill and it was obvious when she was cutting my hair she was at ease working a funky hipster do into fruition.
Although, I only got a cut (which at the time of this review is $35), she also washed/dried and styled my hair with recommendations on how to use a straight iron (which I had never used). Besides the cut being the best bob since Hair Dooz (in Los Angeles), I also found her service and attitude very positive and the experience overall was fantastic.
Since my first cut, I've gone back again for a shorter crisper look, Tess was on point again, and I look forward to my maintenance cuts when they come.
I am very happy to have found a place that easily rates with the best salons in L.A.

What can I say that hasn't been said already! I go to Tess, but I would trust any of the girls there with my hair. Its really a great vibe, relaxed, fun, awesome stylists. And the prices are not insane, like they COULD charge.
If I stopped eating out so much, I might be able to afford to have Tess do some crazy ish with my color! -

You know how when you go into a salon, and come out looking like an angel from heaven handcrafted the perfect hair for you? We'll you would if you came here! Blair did awesome. They were all super cool. Everyone walked out with awesome hair. I kinda felt like a knob walking in with a standard haircut chain style, but that's why I went there. I called and got an appointment time 2 hours later as I had to come from Carson City. Everywhere else just asks what you want. I didn't know what I wanted. I knew i wanted something trendy, but that I could wear conservatively at the office.
Poof! She created my hair like a genie from a bottle. Now I need to figure out what to use my other two wishes on. -

I live in San Francisco where you would think there would be lots of great stylists, right? Well, apparently I've tried ALL the wrong ones, because all I've weathered more horrible 100 dollar hair cuts than one person should. I found An Epic Salon through my future sister-in-law and I am beyond pleased with my haircut! Tess, one of the owners, got me in semi-last minute (at least by bay area standards) and did a fabulous job! I gave her only vague guidelines of what I wanted and she transformed my plain jane locks into a fun new style! As a bonus, the prices are totally reasonable! I am so excited to finally have a salon to call my own!

Echoing what Suzanne said...fabulous! I was in fear of becoming a stylist whore...living in three states in three years...OMG! Just moved here from AZ and was frantic to find a new stylist...did some research on Yelps and CitySearch and decided to go for it! Super happy with the end result!! Vibe, energy, ambiance was nice and the crew was super friendly...cut and color rocked!! I added Tess to my contacts and hope to live happily ever after!

I finally broke up with my stylist after 2 years of hair abuse. I got up the courage to call Epic after seeing them on Yelp and I couldn't be happier! I saw Jessica and honestly, she gave me the best cut and color i've ever had. I feel like a new woman. And the prices are so reasonable. I called yesterday and they had no problem getting me in today. Everyone there seems super friendly. I'm so happy i've found a relationship that finally works. Hair relationship that is.

Jessica did an amazing job. I spent $100 for an a-line cut and color, so it is a bit pricey for a college student, but I definitely recommend her to anyone.

I love Epic Salon! I went there based on Yelp reviews and as usual the experience was just as, no, even better than described. I am only in Reno for six weeks and was thinking about possibly foregoing a cut and coming back fuzzy to my regular barber. At the same time I am working here and need to look professional. With slight trepidation I booked an appointment with Tess who is also half owner of the shop. She ended up being super cool and I am exceedingly happy with my cut. The only problem is that after I leave Reno I am going to have to search out someone who lives up to this new high standard! Thank you Tess! I'm sure I will be back before I leave town!

love these ladies! i've had a haircut from 3 different stylists, all have done a great job.... i'm leaving town, but i just wanted to give a quick review... last haircut was with steph, and she is super sweet and gives a fabulous haircut.... but get your cuts/colors in soon because she is going to be a momma pretty soon and i'm sure taking some well-deserved time off :) just remember your quarters for the meters! and pay in cash if you can! i'm sad i'm moving because the prices are reasonable, especially for the great cut you get! thanks girls! xoxo

I have been going to Tess now for over a year, so this review is long overdue! All of the ladies at Epic are talented professionals who will do your hair as conservatively or as wild as you please. You will definitely be strutting your stuff and admiring your window reflection as you leave this fantastic salon.
