Adorable decor, reasonable prices, fresh baked goods, great-tasting food, and more than anything, phenomenal service.
I ordered the half-soup half-sandwich combo with the mushroom barley soup and the vegetable foccaccia sandwich. But sadly, they don't do the half-and-half combo with the vegetable foccaccia! So I gave in and decided I'd take my extra half home.
But in the kitchen, they found out that another lady at another table also wanted half of the vegetable foccaccia. And instead of just making extra bank on us, they split the sandwich in half and gave one to each of us. So astute, so flexible, so willing and eager to please.
And I'm so glad they did... The sandwich tasted so good, I'm not sure I could have held back from eating the other half if it was on my plate! Good thing the mushroom barley soup was so earthy and delicious too. And the salad came with beets! What a great touch.
What a fantastically great experience in general.Listed in: Where I Can Score Some Coke

Food like your mom used to make.
Actually, my mom doesn't really cook anymore, so we went there while I was in town to enjoy a lovely meatloaf dinner, and a bowl of scrumptious butternut squash soup on a cold winter night. Homemade flavor, with just-out-of-the-oven fresh bread, and friendly service.
I went back on a weekday to enjoy their soup and sandwich special, the roasted chicken salad sandwich and the mushroom and barley soup. Great deal for $11 an the soup was absolutely delicious - I could survive on Meg's soups as my only food source.
OH, and the muffins are delicious. The carrot muffin is my favorite, while my mom absolutely loves the chocolate, and the cinnamon one was great too. Be sure to get one to go for breakfast the next day.
Great little spot to enjoy a casual meal, without excess frills, and with an interior as bright and cheerful as the staff. -

Glencoe, IL
A total mess. Hoping for a break from Glencoe's competition in overpriced adult lunch food (Foodstuffs across the street) we took a chance and discovered the problem(s) with Apple a Day. Our server had no idea what kind of bread the sandwiches came on (seriously?), customers were left waiting forever for service, food was delivered without silverware; in other words, the servers appeared untrained and unsupervised. Our $10 grilled veg on ciabatta came with 3 of 6 promised ingredients. The sandwich's only vegetable, a few sad slices of zucchini, was raw, not a grill mark on it. Customers deserve better, even in Glencoe. Setting basic standards in food prep and service is not as difficult as they make it seem.

Had lunch here with my wife on our way up to the Botanic Gardens. I had a roasted chicken salad sandwich and she had a tuna salad sandwich, both with pasta salad as our side. Chicken salad was pretty solid. They said it was their restaurant specialty, and I was pretty satisfied. The wife was also happy with her tuna salad as well. The bread they use for their sandwiches was very good and the pasta salad was good too!
Overall a clean place that's well kept and had some outdoor seating as well. They also had some items for sale deli counter-style.
Service was good and we're glad we stopped for a nice afternoon lunch! -

I finally made it to Apple a Day on New Years Eve day, and it was worth it! I live in the city, but I'm on the north shore a lot, so Apple a Day was a great find. It was a rainy day, so I definitely needed soup and a sandwich, and Meg's delivered. I had a perfect blt and a delightful chicken and barley soup. My boyfriend had the same sandwich but with the tomato bisque-- I'm not sure which soup was better, but they were both some of the best soups I've ever had. If this place was closer to me, I'd be in trouble! Top it off with unlimited cokes and some of the nicest waitstaff I've ever had, this is so far my favorite lunch spot for when I visit the 'burbs.

So glad there's a place to go for a tasty meal with a semi-casual ambiance at a decent price. They close at 8pm on weeknights and we had a wonderful dinner there last night sitting outdoor with our baby. Generous portion of caesar salad then meatloaf with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli plus a glass of wine. It's hard to find these places in Glencoe so I'm really grateful they're open for dinner!

I haven't been here in years, but they used to have an outstanding tuna sandwich. Their product was always fresh and made to order. I should go back and see if the tuna lives up to my memory.

I ate there twice in one week. The first time I had the Angus burger with white, purple and sweet potato chunks. Yummy!! The next time I had the meatloaf - just okay, a little dense and underseasoned except for way too much ketchup on top which ruined the mashed potatoes. The house salad was exceptionally good each time, and very seasonal and fresh. The wait staff are friendly and competent. A great spot for lunch or dinner before Ravinia, Writer's Theater or the Botanic Garden.

This is a great midrange spot for a casual meal. I've been for lunch and dinner, both with and without kids, and I've enjoyed everything. The food is homemade, fresh and flavorful yet not too complicated, as if it came from Mom's kitchen. It's nicer inside than you'd expect from the street, although certainly not fancy. My favorite is the chicken salad sandwich, and my little niece proclaimed their chicken noodle soup to be the "best in her entire life". She announced that very loudly at lunch, which resulted in a plate of free baked goods for us from the woman behind the counter who seemed to be in charge. Gotta love that. P.S. They have a bar, which makes this charming little spot even more attractive. What's not to like?

This is a very enjoyable restauarnt that makes wonderful salads. It is very laid back and the staff are friendly. They also cater and I would expect that if it is anything like the restaurant that they do a great job.

A perfect spot for lunch. The food is delicious and the staff is professional and friendly. Yummy! Salads and sandwiches...everything made fresh to order. But be sure to save room for the homemade desserts.
