Love at first sight! Any place that has kids' artwork taped up under the front counter can win me over pretty easily.
Amy's is a sweet little place with a handwritten blackboard menu. Went mid-day during the week and there were only a couple of other people there. It was a very comfortable place to hang out and read a book. The girls were friendly, the little tables are cozy, and I felt like I was just hanging out at a friend's house.
I wasn't expecting anything special from the food, but I got the California omelet and it was actually super delicious. Very light, cooked just right. Great homefries, too, and good value in my opinion. I will totally be back to sample some more of the menu.
I don't know about the weekends, but during the week you just order at the counter, so you don't have to worry about table service. I always like that because it makes me feel less pressured - you can go to the counter any time you need something, and nobody bothers you if you want to sit and read for a little while.
Definitely worth checking out when you are in this part of town! -

YYYYUUUUUMMMMMYYYYYY!!! great place to have food outside. Reminded me of a restaurant you would find in southern cali. Everything is made on the spot. I have had breakfast and lunch and was equally impressed by both. The menu is specific but you can mix anything up and they will make it right!! Very welcoming, the staff is super cool and friendly.

I've been coming here for about 3 years and have never been disappointed in the food. The service is always great thanks to the pleasant staff. You might not be able to park right in front, but there are always spots within a block or two and it's a nice area to walk around for a bit anyway. Always comfortably busy, but never too full. The crowd is usually a mixed bag. I'll continue to eat here often.

I've changed my mind about Amy's Place.
I used to think it was kind of mediocre food, but having this place close to home and frequenting it often when I need a quick sandwich, some pancakes, heck, some bacon, I think Amy's Place is the kind of "mama's little kitchen" I need in my life.
If you're eating lunch, get the CHICKEN SALAD sandwich. It is SO homestyle, I crave it all the time. If you're eating breakfast, chocolate chip blueberry pancakes!!!! The benefit of having Amy around is she cooks things custom made, right in front of you when its ordered.
Amy, our first date didn't knock my socks off. But I think we might get married someday. :) -

My friend and I could not find a reasonable restaurant open on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Providence, and we stumbled across Amy's on Wickenden Street. Thank God we did.
Cheerful and unpretentious service, for one. I ordered the California omlette with the yogurt on the side (usually it comes on top, strange!) rye toast, and a fruit cup. The omlette was delish-moist bc of the mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach-the toast was well, toast, and the fruit was 2 small watermelon wedges. Strange, but I rolled with it. My friend got the chicken salad wrap and they let her substitute fruit for the chips. Her fruit cup was full of tropical fruits. I was a tiny bit jealous. Oh well. It was a great lunch! The employees also answered our questions on what to do in Providence. Great service. -

I went to the place on sunny Saturday morning. The place was packed. Indeed, with the ample space for outdoor dining (and there are also plenty of sunny indoor seats!), this is definitely my favorite place around college hill when I'm craving for both food and sunshine.

The sign for gluten free bread is what inspired me to bookmark Amy's place. I took Michael back a couple weeks later and had an immensely relaxing time. This is the kind of place where everyone knows your name and you feel transported to Cape Cod living. They have outdoor seating in front to catch the morning rays/people watching and in back for a quieter space. A small coffee is $.93! and what the food lacks in flavor price and service overshadow.

I enjoyed it.
Small area, there is also seating in back (outdoors).
Good food, homemade muffins.
Nice place to eat and catch up with friends.
Pretty cheap pricing.
I'd go back again, most definitely. -

Could go for a fan
Peaceful outdoor patio
Good sandwich choices
If you're in the area, this is a great alternative to Brickway on Wickenden, which is packed to the walls on any given breakfast morning. I've eaten here a few times, mostly for lunch, which is a touch on the expensive side, but good. They have a few wraps, even vegetarian options that are pretty decent (try the East Sider Wrap, it's fantastic)
The folks who work here are generally friendly and don't mind questions. I was here with my mother last week and she had a few special requests, which were accommodated with no issues. They even went so far as to come back out to the table to ask follow up questions after we ordered.
The back patio is a great place to grab a morning bite if you can swing a table there. Even though there may be tables indoors, the patio is prime seating and is generally taken (except during weekday lunches, when you've got your pick of chairs.) The indoors is a bit stuffy, and I'm not a fan of the padded armchairs instead of diner seating; they take up a lot of room and make it difficult to maneuver between tables. -

The food (turkey wrap) and iced coffee were okay, but I'm giving Amy's Place 4 stars for the atmosphere. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a couple of friends because Coffee Exchange was too crowded. It was the perfect place to sit for a couple hours and catch up. We sat outside on the patio - a little chilly (our own fault though, there was plenty of seating inside) but they had a little heater in the middle! Great idea, Amy's place. Next time I'm in Providence I'll definitely be back, and I have my eye on the pancakes.

The food is excellent ....run by an Armenian family......There's one problem the owner is cool.....try the Portuguese Pancakes (BOLOS) or the Portuguese Sweet Bread....and Portuguese ground Chourico..... Amy makes homemade chili.....Her mom makes the best corn bread......Her Grandmother makes homemade soups....Ari is beautiful.....and a hard worker.......go there.....5 stars......
Note: you can catch wifi near the front windows or outside the cafe........ -

What a wonderful little place. The staff is always friendly (and usually just one person). They can run on the slow side if they get hit with several customers at once (usually we are talking one or two people running the show) but they exude and unpretetiousness that is like a refreshing tonic after all the desperately serious little joints serving breakfast and brunch in Providence. I kept going for breakfast sandwiches and coffee to go in the winter so I had no idea that they have an awesome garden patio out back and make great lunch.
Out of all the "dumpy" downhome little cafe's on the east side this place takes the cake. They manufacture an egg and bacon bagel sandwich that is unreasonably good. I get kind of worried about how much I like it. -
Review from Rhoda G.
I hopped off the bus on Wickenden Street to check out the area and found a lot of small cafes and mom-and-pop stores, which I thought was cool. I chose this place because it looked promising.
I was tempted to get a late breakfast, but was in a mood for lunch. I ordered the "I Like It Like That", a sandwich that had turkey, cheddar, honey mustard, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber on wheat bread. It also came with a bag of chips and a pickle. The sandwich was all right and it's something that I can make at home, but I guess that I paid for the convenience of not making a lunch. The water that they gave me was in a plastic Tupperware cup and I had a flashback to the 80s.
Based on the few other reviews, you are better off having breakfast here. -

I finally made it down to Amy's Place a few weeks ago after hearing a lot about it. Great breakfast. I had the french toast with strawberries... pretty amazing. The guys I went with all loved their omelets too. I'll definitely be heading back here soon. [And I'm not just saying that because Amy's fiance is my boss]

Eggs, toast, bacon and coffee. Simple. Good Joe though the finer stuff is at the hipster coffee place with the better shaded patio right across the street.
Things are slower in Providence. There was only one young girl working the joint. Sincerely friendly but not very attentive. When the other girl showed up they were like "maybe we should turn the sign around so it says 'Open'--people are passing by"!! I felt like I was in a Dumb and Dumber clip!
It seems like there are many fun restaurants and coffee places on this strip. Also, antique stores, record shop, one and only sex shop, art galleries, and boutiques that open past noon or don't open at all. Close to a mediocre park and cool bike path.
There's a patio at Amy's but you could hear the (non-working?) AC really loud and it reminded me that I was alone.
It's kinda hot in there. Don't know if the music is always this low because I was able to chill and study in this cute, brightly colored place- -

Breakfast is good. Pancakes are delish. And STACKED.
Love the fresh fruit smoothies.
Lunch is okay, not great.
Only major complaint is that there isn't proper ventilation and I always leave smelling like kitchen grease.Listed in: Breakfast & Brunch

Eh. Maybe I'm over homey cafes with broken chairs. I've been to too many on Wickenden and I could just be doing the same thing in my kitchen.
The service blew. I mean it wasn't even busy on this Sunday morning and the waitress completely forgot about us, didn't even bring us our drinks and then seemed a little annoyed that we still wanted them after we were done eating.
Eggs were good but not great, Nothing I couldn't have done myself and not exactly warm by the time I got them. I thought if this was a breakfast all day sort of place it would be un-freaking-believable, but it was pretty believable. French toast got nothing on Meeting Street.
Interesting smoothie and sandwich choices but I was on a breakfast-only mission. Maybe I'll go again when I'm feeling lazy, but for the most part I could just make this stuff myself. -

Went here for brunch and it was good! Would definitely go back but I'm not craving it!! Food was very good, portion size was good and service was friendly. We ordered at the counter and then they brought your food to you. Nothing fancy but a solid choice. Their big plus for me was the cute patio out back.

Great food, and better than the Brickway a few doors down. The muffins and eggs are delicious.

Good grub, nice people but be prepared to wait for your food. The kitchen has only counter top ranges making it hard for them to cook more than a few orders at a time. This is the charm and the challenge of the place. The coffee is a little thin so if you want a great cup hit the coffee exchange across the street first and enjoy. All in all a nice place to eat tasty food.

Really mediocre. $8.25 for an omelet and homefries. Good blueberry pancakes, but very small and only 4 served. Indifferent staff, almost asleep on the morning were there. Good for the college crowd, but otherwise do avoid.

Good breakfast/lunch dishes with nice/friendly service. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Good coffee. It's a nice cafe!

Went to breakfast here with my BF one morning after hearing about it.... I was good, friendly people.. we both ordered omelette's , and we thought they came with potatoes or something else for the price. Real cute place though, will go back to try the smoothies and chili!

Providence, RI
Cute place, but not staffed enough. There was one girl cooking, serving, taking payment, essentially doing everything to run the restaurant. The food was pretty aweful, giant french toast was two limp pieces of white bread, bland and chewy... Looked for vegan options as well and was disappointed.

This place is great. There are a lot of small restaurants on Wickenden street. Some of the BEST home fries I've ever had. The smoothies were great. The design of the place was cozy and welcoming, and the artwork on the walls was very nice. staff was great. very good hours. Only con is, a small menu.

Great, healthy food at reasonable prices. The amount of food you get is enough to fill you, with no leftovers. The staff are friendly and efficient. It's in a great neighborhood to spend an afternoon reading or chatting with friends.

Absolute travesty of a burger. Asked if it was from frozen patties, and they told me no. Not positive, but I'm pretty sure I got a microwaved frozen patty. Utterly disgusting.

I went some time after noon to have breakfast. I had my laptop because I needed to work on a project. I ordered an omelet and a cup of coffee. After that, I had another cup of coffee and ordered a smoothee. Finally, I had one more cup of coffee. Everything was delicious by the way and the woman at the counter was particularly friendly. Around 1:30, an older woman (perhaps the owner's mother?) approached my table and asked me if I was 'done'. When I replied yes, she said 'good, because we need this table.' She went on to explain that it would be ok on another day, but it was busy. At that point, the restaurant was barely half full and I tried to explain that when I came in, this was the only table available. She either didn't hear me or didn't care to hear me as she just turned and walked away. I was extremely embarrassed as many of the tables overheard and were now staring.
I would have gladly moved to a smaller table or to the stools by the window, but I no longer felt welcome at that point. I know that I would want this feedback if I owned a restaurant. Especially with direct competition within a few steps.
