March Update- We always get our birthday cakes from Amy's. Anything else is second rate! Julia got a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for her birthday cake for only 13 bucks and it was awesome.

The service is good, but the food is just okay.
When I went, the people were friendly, and helpful. I asked what they recommended. The girl at the counter suggested the fruit tart.
The fruit tart was just okay. Some of the fruit were obviously canned. It didn't have a particularly good flavor.
I've also had some of their cakes and pies on occasion, because some people I know are regulars at this place. I like how the cake is not too sweet, but it has too many layers of frosting and icing. I would prefer thicker layers of cake, and less frosting. -

Amy's pastry is like a friendly neighborhood bakery. The bakery was roomy and clean. The best part of this bakery was the great service.
It reminded me of Porto's bakery minus the crowd. I was supposed to take a number to get service but I didn't need it.
I looked confused and purposedly didn't take the number because I wasn't ready to order. A sweet lady greeted me and took her time to explain their best sellers and the prices.
Ordered large mexican hot cocoa, chocolate canolli, chocolate chips horn and chocolate bundt. Wow I didnt realize I ordered chocolate everything.
Large Mexican hot cocoa ($2.50): this hot cocoa was comforting and delicious. Not sure what they added to the cocoa but I tasted honey.
Chocolate canolli ($1.95): the canolli looked so good but it was just okay.
Choc chips horn ($1.80): this was one of their best sellers. I didn't care for it.
Chocolate bundt ($2.75): yea I didnt like this either.
$5 minimum for credit card purchase and there's an ATM machine if you prefer paying cash.
Someone in this bakery loves to post signs. I saw so many signs inside and outside the bakery. There were so many signs: no cell phone, no checks, christmas hour, $9.90 pumpkin pie, etc.
3 stars!!
Amy's mexican hot cocoa is yummylicious!!Listed in: Bakeries in LA & OC, Hot cocoa

I love Amy's. I've been coming here for years and it always meets my high expectations. They have coffee, cookies, tarts, fancy desserts, cakes, cupcakes, fruit tarts, bread, bagels, creme brülée...just about everything you can ask for. Some places have very few items to choose from, but Amy's has it all. The cakes are simply delicious. The Red Velvet is so good my friend Antonia and I have had a couple Red Velvet competitions and when she tasted the one from Amy's she was really impressed. The lemon filling they use in their stuff is really spectacular. I've had it in their lemon pastries and in their lemon cake.
They also have a lot of convenient stuff you might need such as a pie/cake cutter they sell for 1.50. In fact just last week, I went in to buy a Birthday cupcake for a great guy I know and as I was looking at the candles they told me they sold the little ones individually. How great is that? They had four different kinds of cupcakes that day, marble, vanilla, chocolate and Red Velvet, which is the one I got him. I hope he liked it?! Sometimes they even have cupcakes with fillings. They also have little pastries conveniently gift wrapped so you can take to different social gatherings. This is a great place!!! -

Dissapointed, not at Amy's but alot of hohummm reviews. I believe I live much too close to Amy's for my own good. Everything I've tried is tasty too! (vitametavegamin),fresh, and sweet. Now on the sweet part, the Crem Brulee could have been more sugary, ya know when the toothache comes after the first bite!
The tarts have more of the sweet that is left out of the CB, but good. The assortment of cookies are far to many to be happy with as you will find with, what you "did not" buy once you get home! The apple turnovers are to die for, and I might if I went there as much as I wanted to! Lucky for me, I live with my daughter and her little ones make sure the temptation is gone rather quickly!! -

I remember way back when the place was a Japanese American family business. The bakery was a throw back to the 50's/60's as I recalled. The counter ladies wore white outfits with a pink apron. Everything was made on the premise from breads to cookies. It all tasted homemade. That is to say, it wasn't barbie doll manufactured perfect at a warehouse on a conveyor belt in 100 feet long ovens.
Lovingly made, the cakes weren't always exactly round and the cookies each looked slightly different. I say good, it gave everything personality. Unfortunately, towards the end of the original owners' stint, the old place was getting "tired" looking and very outdated. Business was slowing to a crawl.
The current owners came in and remodeled and branded. Today, it's a cross between Starbucks and Panera Breads. The really smart thing was to keep baking everything on premise. You can still find that homemade goods with personality. (Side note: At one point they expanded to several locations, Montebello Mall and Huntington Beach.)
I still go back to get the old time favorites; Figure 8 Danish, Mini-Croissants (office favorite), Butter Cookies, Pies, Butterflake rolls (definitely get this during Thanksgiving, but pre-order), Sheepherder bread, and Amy's Delight (I remember the manager at the time sharing one of the first bites with me).
Costco, Vons, Walmart, etc. all have bakeries these days that can feed the masses for dirt cheap. But I think Amy rocks over the superstore mega warehouses, even with the slightly higher prices. Independent bakeries are a shrinking breed, support the mom and pop's before they go away entirely. It's an art, not a product.
Thumbs up, but as always let me know what you think. -

My birthday cake was a little cylinder full of chocolate goodness!
I absolutely loved it, light frosting that wasn't too sweet and delicious fluffy chocolate cake.
Amy's has a ridiculous selection of pastries, pan dulce and more gourmet dessert choices. Standing in front of the counter is pretty nerve wracking... I can never decide!
Yesterday I went for the safe choice-- a double chocolate muffin. Perfect, delicious muffin. ^_^
This bakery is really underrated in Montebello, I will make it a point to keep coming.
The ladies in the morning shift could be a lot nicer... just saying. -

They're great at customizing cakes to your vision. AND most important their cakes are delicious! The last cake I ordered was an amazing Tiffany blue! Although the person helping me almost gave me a heart attack
when she tried to give me the wrong cake! But they ended up finding it.
AND their Fruit Tarts are amazing :) -

4/5 stars. This is where all my childhood birthday cakes came from. Not only me but everyone who grew up in the area came here. I just stopped by the other day to pick up some of my favorite cookies. If you like sugar cookies with different types of sprinkles on top, go to Amy's. They have really good strawberry shortcakes and chocolate cakes. My favorite cake is no longer on display there but you can still order it. It's called the Dream Cake. It is a light chocolate cake with lots of think layers of whipped cream. The whole outside is covered with shaved chocolate. So Yummy! Amy's isn't one of those fancy, expensive bakeries. Its one of those local family joints with really great recipes! Go to the location off Beverly Blvd, it's the original and best location!

After reading many wonderful reviews of this place I decided to come and try the pastries.
The staffs were helpful but not all that friendly. I guess it's because I walked in around 6 and they've had a long day.
I got strawberry cheese cake, cream brulee, fruit tart, strawberry tart, watermelon cookie (tastes like butter cookie), cream puff, and chocolate eclair.
Verdict:
- Strawberry cheese cake was good but somehow tastes a little salty.
- Cream brulee was a miss... It's the worst one I've had
- The fruit on the tarts tastes really fresh. The tart itself does not.
- Watermelon cookie tastes just like any other butter cookie. I think this one's ok but more for kids.
- Cream puff and eclair tastes stale. I had a hard time finishing them.
I'd probably go again just to give them another shot. However, I wouldn't keep my hopes high. -

NOTE: this review is for the cupcakes ONLY.
A girlfriend of mine had a birthday today, and one of our super sweet and thoughtful friends brought 2 dozen Amy's Pastry cupcakes to her bonfire celebration. They looked AWESOME - and were the perfect single-serving dessert for the occasion!
BUT........the cupcakes were really underwhelming : (.
Red Velvet - the cream cheese icing was pretty good, and the dark crimson red velvet crumbs decorating the top were pretty - but the cake was a little dry and bland.
Vanilla - this cupcake would have been better with the cream cheese icing. It had a mass-produced-tasting vanilla buttercream frosting, and a dry-ish and bland cake.
Marble - same dry cake, same mass-produced tasting (chocolate) buttercream frosting.
I have no idea how much these cupcakes cost, but I do know that the admittedly mass-produced ones at Ralph's are more moist - and I'd hasten to guess that they are cheaper. If I had paid for these cupcakes from a bakery, I'd be very upset that they tasted so bland and mass-produced.
It's a BAKERY for God's sake - take pride in your cupcakes Amy!!! -

I just had the best red velvet cupcake from this place. My co worker brought them in and I HAD TO yelp my experience.
The cupcake is so moist and the frosting is to die for! I HIGHLY reccomend =).

Nothing beats a deliciously aromatic, smooth and foamy latte with a chocolate melt-in-your-mouth croissant the before going to work to help you gear up for the day!
This bakery gets really busy in the morning. I could see all the workers baking up some fresh goods in their giant kitchen on the other side of the counter. Every time I come here I get excited to see the many varieties of pastries (from chocolate croissants, wheat croissants, bear claws, danishes and many more), breads (from challah to baguettes), cookies (biscotti to sugar cookies), cakes, tarts, bagels, and much more! -

So after a nightmare of DMV experience I decided I needed to eat anything before I fucking killed someone, lol. This place is down the street from the DMV and looked more appealing to me than the Carl's Jr in the parking lot.
The place is super nice and clean, and everything looks delicious! After reading a few other reviews from fellow yelpers I decided to try a red velvet cupcake and a fruit tart. I also tried a Tropical Tango smoothie, which was $4.00 which I thought is a little pricey, but it was good, so whatever.
The fruit tart was so delicious!!!! All of the fruit was so yummy and fresh, nothing was soggy or old. Also, the pie crust and cream were very tasty, and not too sweet or overpowering. The red velvet cupcake was also very delicious, I don't think bad cupcakes exist! Well, except for that shitty one I had at Canter's last week, hahaha.
If I'm ever in the area, or have to come back to the godforsaken dmv, I'll come back and enjoy some more tasty treats! :)Listed in: My ROTD's!!! :)

I have been going to Amy's, since I was a kid in Montebello in the mid 70's. Dang, I am old. There pastries are delicious and hit the spot in the morning with a cup of coffee. I have no favorite. All are good.
I enjoy going to neighborhood establishments like Amy's and supporting them than places like Starbucks. -

2.75 stars now..
It saddens me to do this, but Amy's cakes have gone downhill. The last three cakes we've gotten from them have all been dry. Two were red velvet and one carrot cake. Their carrot cake used to be our favourite, but after having it this last time - dry cake and very gummy cream cheese frosting, we have decided that it was time to knock them out of number one.
I still think their baked goods are great and priced fairly, but I'll be hard-pressed to buy another one of their cakes again.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Great local bakery.
They offer a wide variety of baked goods and pastries.
The quality has gone down a little. Their croissants used to be so flaky and now they're just whatever, but nonetheless taste good.
I absolutely love their chocolate cupcakes! So moist, so good!
I'm always here in the morning fetching my mom some coffee and dessert, and always running into my friend's mom.
Nice clean bakery in Montebello. -

Delicious! yummy! overall amazing!
I ordered my graduation cupcake cake here and it came out wonderful!
it was a huge hit! no one had seen anything like it!
then i ordered my 18 birthday cake here which was hello kitty!
again it was a huge hit, it was chocolate with strawberries in the middle!
ah i wish i had some right now!(:
I usually stop by sometimes to get a strawberry pastry which is to die for!
but make sure you go early when there is still a great variety and still super fresh!
The service is okay, they aren't too friendly.
Also there sourdough bread here is 2.30 for a loaf and its the most delicious bread i have ever tasted! -

I have been going to Amy's Pastry for years, even when I moved I go out of my way to purchase Amy's Pastry, their items are always made 'fresh' daily ~ they can't help it, everything is usually sold by the end of the day,
I introduced my daughter-in-law to Amy's and she ordered her wedding cake from them, Amy's is great for the holidays, they have 'mini' pastry platters for parties, the place is clean, fast moving lines and eye appealing. I highly recommend Amy's Pastry to everyone. -
Review from Ace D.
During my celebration for graduating from APU, my sis-in-law ordered a red velvet cake from here. I was very grateful for her selecting on of my fav' cakes, but I wasn't highly impressed.
Don't get me wrong, the frosting was excellent but the internal cake itself wasn't as tasty as it appeared. It didn't have the sweetness that I desired, but I grabbed all the cream cheese frosting to sweetness up my cake.
I hate to say that I have experience far better red velvets, but it was the thought that counts. I hope she doesn't read this because she might hit me up with a cream pie...in my face!
The fat: I'm not ruling out their pastry isn't good.
The skinny: But you cannot have your cake and eat it too! -

WOW, when I was about 20; i thought i found a new pastry place so I called my mom to tell her how awesome this place was!!
She laughed at me and told me she had been coming here since she was 30.. Hahaha, this place rocks like you wouldn't believe!!
I love cookies and other specific pastries; but here, even the muffins taste like a receipt from another country..
This place sells EVERYTHING during the holidays; and is best known for their occasion cakes.. WEDDING, ANNIVERSARY, Quinceria.. (my Spanish is terrible, but the one where the brat turns fifteen or sixteen).
The place has coffee, lattes, shakes, and juices; whatta concept... A very American style bakery, smack in the middle of L.A. (MONTEBELLO).. -

This 5 star is for one thing, ECLAIRS! They are little finger sized, heavenly, chocolaty goodness!
Thank God I do not live close to the area or my ass would be even bigger than it is now.
I mostly go and get them for parties, and half the time, everyone gets about 2-5 per serving. I'm thinking I should get more next time!
Its so hard NOT to get these little things when I'm there. But next time, I so gotta try the Red Velvet Cupcakes!!
This is a good size bakery, plenty of seating inside, service is decent, but of course like every where else, you gotta take a number for great stuff :)Listed in: Sweets for the sweet...

Yesturday I stoped in to pick up a Small B-day cake for moms and was immediately greeted as I stepped one foot in the door way, that was cool.
As l looked around i saw all the asortment of pastries that they have there that all look so freakin good but for me I don't really eat sweets (That doesn't mean that I absolutely do not eat them). After coming out of sugar shock I remembered what I was there for, To buy moms a Small B-day cake, unfortunately they didn't have the small ones so I looked over to my left and noticed some strawberry topped somthing that looked good, So I asked the young lady that was helping me what type of cake that was she replied "Strawberry Cheese Cake", I said sooooollllldddddd, I think I might have said it a bit load considering everybody that was in there turned and looked at me like I was some kinda nut (which I am, but they don't need to know that ?).
The young lady asked me if I wanted her to Write Happy Birthday Momma on it I said hells to the yeah!! She just smiled and said wow your kinda awake huh? I laughed ans sadi well thats what happens when you work nights..
So after she was done and I paid it only came out to be like 11 bucks or so.. Shit I will be back to pick up some stuff for Saturday (Sons B-day).
Thank you Amy who ever where ever you are, you made My mother a very Happy and Hyper Person last night.. -

I haven't been to Amy's Pastry Shop in a few years, but I plan on going back very soon. I have an intense craving for the banana flavored cake filled with lemon. I know, sounds weird, but it is oh-so-delicious.
Amy's has been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. Most of our family parties have featured cakes from Amy's.
Now that I think about it, I don't think I have ever had anything but cake from there. I think I need to remedy that very soon!
It is best to order ahead because the place is bustling. I've never been there when it wasn't crowded. Parking isn't the greatest, but all the trouble is worth it once you have a taste of their cake. -

I've been coming here since I was in elementary school. Even though I'm living in San Francisco I make it a point to stop by and grab some cookies to take home with me whenever I happen to be in town.
Their cakes are good (especially the melba ones), the cookies are great (especially the ones with raspberry centers), and their fruit tarts are delish.
They serve coffee now, which I've yet to have.Listed in: Southern California

PARKING: Private lot in a plaza
PRICE: Good
SEATING: Few tables in door and a few outdoor
SERVICE: Fine
DESERTS: Large variety and good
I love there fruit tart and it only cost $21-23 for about a10 inch tart. They also sell it in a individual size for about (i think) $1.75. I've also tried there individual cup of creme brulee. It's very smooth.
They have a large variety of deserts and cake. -
Review from Lauren L.
Heard about it from a friend who said it was so good. I love that parking is not an issue. The plaza is under renovation now and the place is hard to find if you are looking for a big sign. Just know it is right at the corner by Bally's gym.
Price very reasonable. Very spacious inside. If you have a craving for bread or cake, come here! Quality may not be the best. But heck, for the price I don't think it is that bad.
Cupcakes are $1 for chocolate and plain and $1.50 for red velvet. Texture is drier. The chocolate frosting taste like what you get at Ralphs or Vons. The Red Velvet cream is not too sweet, pretty good. I would recommend all to be in room temperature before eating. If you put in fridge, you will be eating dry crumbs. Yuck.
Bagels about $0.65 to $1. Bread loaf about $3. Cakes prices range from $13-$22. Everything looks so good (presentation appealing) but i have not had chance to try everything.
One thing i have to say though is you have to take a number!! I feel like i am walking into Porto because there is no order to anything. If you are new you will be walking around wondering who will help you.
You have to take a number that is located on right side upon entrance. The number board is on wall on the left by the coffee area. If you don't hear them call your number (and it is hard to hear bcuz they don't shout or use a speaker system), you can see the number on wall change. If you missed it, the next person will be helped. The day i went was weekday and there was only one person helping. Everyone was picking up items and took away most of the helpers. In any case, take your number and watch the wall because you will tune out ears when you you look at all the spread in front of you.
One bad thing: NO price on anything!!! You have to ask them for prices of each item. Bad idea!!! I did tell her but she said "that's how it is". Oh, ok, more time waste then bcuz i do ask prices of nearly everything.Listed in: Desserts

4) Fast and friendly service
5) Lots and lots of cute chicks working and frolicking around here.
6) Custom Bikini and Nude Cakes!!!. Every year i get one and always look forward to my birthday. Also, perfect for Bachelor, divorce or JFTFOI parties.
My birthday is coming and this year will be a special one. I always get the vanilla cake with strawberry filling. Overall, one of the very few reasons to visit Montebello. Hope i can post of photo...perfect for any heterosexual man in your life! -

Alhambra, CA
I was led to this place due to a friends' strong recommendation of their red velvet cupcakes. Upon entering the bakery, it was dimly lighted with approximately 4 ladies running behind the counters helping customers with their sweet picks. Since I knew what i wanted, I scoped for the red velvet cupcakes which happens to be on the bottom far right display and asked for immediate assistance. I then went ahead to browse for what else they had to offer.
Aside from classic cream cakes, they have cakes where they call "flour-less". To me the flour-less cakes are basically "mousse" cakes at any fancier chinese/french bakeries. Prices are reasonable as they range around the high twenties. Individual slices like fruit tarts ranges around $3.50 a piece. A full size fruit tart is $22. Aside from cakes, they have a fairly good selection of fresh bread and cookies. However, I didn't find either appealing. They look like typical bread or cookies you find at a local grocery stores' bakery section. However, I'll definitely go back to give it a try before landing my final judgment. We all know that looks can be deceiving at times.
As for the taste of the red velvet, I have to say that they are fairly good for the price. They're only $1.50 a piece and will definitely satisfy a red velvet craving if "Sprinkles" isn't around the corner. Ever since Sprinkles Cupcakes started that fancy overpriced crazy cupcake craze, similar stores have popped up left and right and are charging at least $3.50 a piece. So then I would have to say that they are good what what you pay for. The cupcake itself is moist but just a tad bit drier than Sprinkles. Aside for the moisture, they're also not as dense and a bit light on the "cocoa" taste. I'm thinking they probably don't use Madagascar vanilla or that premium cocoa that Sprinkles advertise about. The cream cheese on top was pretty amazing as it wasn't too sweet and blended quite well with the cake.
Parking isn't an issue as this place is located in a large plaza. -

Amy's have been here for ages. they have changed hands since the last time I have been here. I don't think there cakes are all that great anymore but I do enjoy their breads especially this butter flake bread that comes in cupcake form. I love to drizzle hot butter and chocolate over it and munch on it.
The place is well lit and there is always someone ready to help you get what you need. -

The Best Red Velvet Cupcakes in the area! The cake is just right, moist and flavorful, but the frosting is simply the best. Perfect combination. They should really showcase them more, last time I went in to buy I could hardly find them in the case.
We've been coming here since I was a kid, it's been around forever, they've updated but kept most of what people love. They have really great individual desserts, petit fours, etc. I love the creme brulee and the fresh fruit mini tarts with custard.
You can order great larger cakes for any function but you also can buy smaller individual cakes that are really great. -

Good for cakes, especially chocolate dobash.
Can get very busy especially around the holidays.
Why not more stars then?
I'll tell you why, because we have ordered cakes ahead of time from there in the past for parties, FULLY PAID FOR, and they sold them to other people before we got there on the day of pickup, no we were not late and yes this has happened more then once. Not cool.
Then they try to sell you other stuff instead of similar value since you are S.O.L. and they really don't want to refund your money.
We have been coming here for decades and this has only happened a couple of times, but still, Buyer beware.
