I'm a caffiene afficionado with a sweet tooth from hell. I feel a craving coming on and find myself desperate. But the not so desperate about to climb walls days? I try to find quality, rather than simply a fix. I'm familiar with good roasters, so I won't claim this is the best coffee in town. But this isn't Amy's Coffee. It's Amy's Bread. & the bread? Oh, the bread. So soft, and when it's fresh made, as in warm out of the oven? My knees knock together in excitement. It's close to impossible to get that fresh home feeling in this city outside of your kitchen, or maybe I'm not haunting the right places. All I know is that this is a sure destination for that sensation. I've tried a handful of their pastries and always succumb to the cinnamon challah knots. Rather than ramble on about my love of pastries. Two words:

    So good.

I came in to try their red velvet cake. It was just ok. The cake itself was good but I really did not like the frosting. It wasn't cream cheese frosting and tasted kind of gross.

Disappointed. I thought this place was going to be good.

I live next door to this place.   There will be no self-control here.  I have been defeated by the yummy calling of these treats.  I had the cheddar biscuit sandwich with ham & cheese and it is amazing.  The STICKY BUN rocked my socks off and was the best I've ever had.

Very friendly, helpful staff .  Cute.  Small.  Crowded, with a tiny seating area.  Well-lit.  Not a romantic date place in the least.   A kind of desperation during lunch break and after work when people crowd the small restaurant and outside.  The line moves fast and panic can arise if you haven't made a decision.

Most things sell out by the time I arrive (5 pm).

There is a window in the back whPere you can sit at your table and drool while watching the baker create yumminess.

They offer delivery and have a bunch of menus.   One for cakes, one for breads, etc.

A couple cook books are displayed written by the owner..

Things sell out early so come as early as you can.

I have loved everything I ate here and will return.

Beware, this charming store will hypnotize you.  I just stepped out to stop by a gym and grab fruit and water.  Yet here I sit, with another assortment of treats in front of me..

    "Amy what you wanna do?
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer if I do"

Well the above lyrics prove true as there is usually a small line out the door of this super tiny establishment.  Also because I will always frequent this spot.

As you walk in, with a mission, you are immediately forced into temptation as you shimmy your way down the narrow entry to make your selection.  It is impossible I tell you, IMPOSSIBLE, to leave with JUST the one thing you went in for.  Amy's Bread is a carbohydrate temptress, and you will succumb to her.

Wether you're looking to satisfy that sweet tooth, looking for an on the go treat, desiring a lunch worthy munch, or simply just good ol' bread...Amy's never disappoints.  Don't forget to grab a caffeinated beverage with your goods.

There is nothing better than smelling Amy's bread a half block before you even get there.  (I actually just convinced myself I smelled it just now... #addict) If your allergies are acting up, well then the line will indicate the location.  Staff is super speedy and extremely patient with your questions.  Check out is a breeze, actually getting out is another thing.

One of my favourite things about Amy's is that the bakery is right next door.  There is no doubt this stuff is fresher than fresh.  True sense of pride not found at many places.

Bought the coconut cream cake for a birthday, the cake was very dry but  the coconut cream frosting was good, it was not too sweet. In general would not buy their cakes again. I am not sure about their breads as I did not try them.

Amy's Bread has 3 locations, but I've only been to their Hells Kitchen store. If your office has a particular celebration and you need a cake, I would recommend this place. My office got almost every birthday cake and/or cupcakes from this bakery and they have been delicious every time.

The cupcakes are $2.50 each, which is comparable to Magnolia cupcakes.  The cakes must be pre-ordered.

Their cake about 90% of the time deserves 5 stars, but as much as I love this place, there were a couple times that the cake was not quite up to the freshness that I have come to expect.  That being said:

Perfect place to share a slice of cake!!  Slices are pretty large here... AND get a glass of milk to go with :)

This location might be the smallest of the several locations in the city, but if you hit this up at the right time, you might be able to snag a cute little marble cafe table in the back.  The Monkey cake is a standout as it is slightly unique... it has bananas in it and I believe a buttercream frosting?  I love the carrot cake... very substantial with walnuts, and of course their chocolate cake!  Lots of cupcakes and cookies.  Also, they offer great breads (hence Amy's Bread) and sandwiches for lunch... but be warned that sometimes they run out of their sandwiches, salads and soup later in the afternoon.

    Open till 11pm most nights.

Best! I had my wedding cake from Amy's Bread! Yes, you are right that they don't do wedding cake. Since their cakes are decorated in a classy way and my husband and I are just so into their monkey cake, we decided to do so. When we placed our order, I specified this is our wedding cake, so please please don't ruin it on the way to our restaurant. It happened that the restaurant that we hosted our reception is just so close to Amy's Bread in west village. It came in a decent shape. Our guests liked it so much.

As a loyal Amy's Bread customer, I have tried so many items. None of them ever disappointed me. Also, staff their are very friendly. Services are good! (I like staff in Hell's Kitchen more than the other branches. )

Amy's Bread has always been one of my favorite spots to pick up some sweets!

The cake is moist and the frosting is not overly sugary. I love the monkey cake and the white cake. Usually, I skip white cake, because I'm a snob and I think its boring, but Amy's white cake is anything but boring. It's very flavorful and almost has a light quality to it, a rare quality in cakes. I've actually never tried the bread, but the cookies, blondies, cupcakes and coffee are all equally as delectable as the cake.

I like to take out of town friends and family to this location after catching a show. They have a few tables in the back and tend to be open a bit later than other dessert spots.

I wanted to buy cupcakes for a coworker & was adamant about avoiding crumbs & magnolia. Too much hype. Too long lines. Prefer the bakery next door to the rampant chains.

This place is quaint and has most of what you're looking for. Plus the less options, The less you're thinking you want to try everything (or less that you eat if you DO try it all)...

I ordered the red velvet & black and white cupcakes, at $2.50 a pop, can't complain too much. The red velvet frosting was light & subtle. I didn't die for the flavor inside, but the black and white was great. I guess that's just my taste bud preference...

Cons: the box wasn't designed for cupcakes & thus light smooshing occurred.

Will be back again & yes I do recommend to a friend!

Everyone knows how good the bread is.  Once my husband and I bought a baguette here and carried it back to NJ, 'nuff said.

However, Amy's also carries sandwiches, salads, and soup, a great option in the Midtown wasteland.  My one quibble is that the sandwiches are pre-made.  For a sandwich like their white bean puree, that means that the otherwise tasty bread is usually soggy by the time you eat it.  It also makes it so you can't customize your sandwiches.  I know it's hard since the space is so small but it's too bad they can't make at least some of their sandwiches to order.  I know I'd stop by there more often as a lunch destination.

L.O.V.E. Amy's Bread. With a passion (does this already seem superlative?). There's nothing "Hellish" about this local favorite.  Amy's Bread was conveniently located near the friends house I was staying at.  We'd walked by it a couple times and I waited till I had my luggage in hand as I was heading back to JFK.  I made a quick decision and waited in line, in the cold, with luggage in hand....now that's dedication.

There were so many yummy options (I was there around brunch) and I opted on a sandwich for the airport and some pastries and freshly squeezed O.J. for breakfast.  I. Was. Not. Dissapointed. My sandwich still tasted fresh and delicious after 4 hrs. or so of being toted around JFK (the pastries and O.J. were quickly consumed on the subway).

I will return to Amy's next time I'm in town. This time I'll come prepared with a bigger appetite, expect to wait in line, and won't bring any large suitcases with me :)

I walked several blocks out of my way to try out this bakery based on Yelp reviews and loved it so much I went back the next day and brought my wife to try it! The bread here is amazing!

I actually intended to order a breakfast sandwich after reading a positive review of them on yelp, but was told by the staff that they don't sell breakfast sandwiches - oh well. Instead I ordered a cherry cream scone and pain au chocolate (chocolate croissant).  I'm not usually big on scones - they're usually dry. But this scone wasn't dry, the cherries were good, and the bread was fall-apart delicious.  The croissant was perfectly crisp on the outside, buttery/flaky on the inside, with just the right amount of chocolate. Delectable!

My wife had their sticky bun, which I tried and also recommend. They also have great coffee. The joint is tiny, but the staff is nice and it's some of the best bread I've ever had.  I just wish there was one near me!

After an amazing Thai dinner, looking for that place we had passed by that had smelled SO great, we fount it.  Amy's Bread.  Such a simple name for such a complex and amazing array of deliciousness.

Teeny Tiny bakery holds BIG humongous delicious delights.  There were five of us in this party - none of us had been here before so you know it was like a hidden camera show where the joke is being played on the poor girl behind the counter.  Either way, after about 20 minutes, 4 bags, paying 3 times because we kept on adding to our order they were finally rid of us.

At the apartment we took out the dessert, boiled some tea and started eating.  I had a Cherry scone.  Now, I adore cherries in any form but am always prepared to be disappointed because sometimes it hasn't been done right.  Here, it was.  It was the best scone.  EVER.  No lie.  It was late so it was cold but even cold it was amazing.  My daughter let me try her Coconut bar - super delish.  My Oatmeal Scone for breakfast the next day was effectively consumed as well - we were all pulling out our goodies and sharing them with everyone so we all had tastes.

We had bought a few breads for breakfast.  So we decided to ''try'' those as well.  OK so halfway through both breads and some amazing Mama Llamas' Awesomesauce - because on the Olive Bread it was even more amazing we declared ourselves done.

Good thing we had been walking all day.  It was crazy on the calories, but a testament to the greatness which is Amy's.  I wish I had one in Miami.

    Amy's I salute you!

Amy's Bread has the best homemade hot chocolate in the city!! Went here this winter because a friend recommended the hot chocolate -- now I'm obsessed. Sure, 5 bucks for a cup of hot chocolate seems expensive, but it comes in a huge cup and they give you homemade marshmallows too (also huge)!

It was really busy when I went but I loved the atmosphere and the staff was nothing but friendly.

There always seems to be a line here. I came in searching for breakfast but this ain't a place where you can get a ham and cheese sandwich. Instead they have hot cross buns, focassia, scones etc. I decided to try an oatmeal scone with almonds in it. It was pretty good but a little too sweet for me because of the sugar glaze. Maybe I'll try the cheese scone next time.

Rising early on a weekend has its drawbacks. Before brunch hour, it's hard to find anywhere to breakfast. And sometimes you're just not feeling a diner. Thank goodness for little bakeries in the hood like Amy's!

The barista whips up a wicked Hot Chocolate that's probably one of the best in the city. Get it to stay for the novelty of drinking out of a bowl. It's not as cloyingly rich as that of the City Bakery's, and comes in a much larger bowl, so it's bowl for your buck! Don't forget to get it topped off with a giant marshmallow (also less sweet than the City Bakery's, and better in my opinion). I've also sampled the Pumpernickel Twist with currants - which is fantastic bread! - and the Cashew Brittle - too sweet.

This very cute and quaint as others, also very busy and small. The staff was very nice and waited for me to figure out what I wanted. I liked it overall better than Europan. However, I am not so sure about the rave reviews. I think it was a standard bakery and their baked good were just okay. I had a chocolate twist, which had great dark chocolate pieces in it, but tasted a bit stale (I bought it at 7pm). I also had a cashew nut bar and a coconut and chocolate bar. Both were a bit too sweet and not original for me. So, if I were in the area, I would give it another try, but no need to trek all the way there just for a few baked goods. Perhaps their drinks are good. The pricing for everything seemed reasonable.

It can be difficult to see the entire selection when you walk into the narrow store-- I usually forget about the savory scones, breads, baguettes, and biscuits once I lock eyes with their INSANELY MOIST old-fashioned layer cakes.

Staff are friendly and efficient so the line moves quickly during peak times and patrons aren't as disgruntled while they wait.

I'm definitely a carb lover, so I had to stop at this cute little bread shop during my first trip to NYC. I have to say, the décor of the shop, and the pretty pastries fooled me good.

I tried the Parmesan Twist and the White chocolate Cherry Cookie. The Twist was extremely bland, and was crunchy, and tasted like plain toast. I expected more flavor, and a softer bread. The cookie was nothing to write home about. Again, I expected something else - something more flavorful. It was a soft chocolaty cookie, so I can't complain there.

I think the 3 stars mainly stems from my expectation of something more. The shop itself is very cute, and the workers are quite friendly. I'll try this place again to give it another shot.

Was here today and although the line was out the door, it moved quickly.  My cookies - peanut butter and chocolate chip - were great.  Saving the sticky bun for tomorrow, but it smells delicious.

However, if I have a choice, I would rather go to the Bleecker Street location for two reasons:

    1)   This location is very narrow, so it's a bit difficult to navigate. People exiting and those online bump into each other, giving the place the ambiance of the number six train at rush hour.

    2)  It's also impossible to see all the items for sale until you get to the register.   You may have spent time online to discover that your favorite cookie has sold out.

I love Amy's, but will stick with the Bleecker Street location if possible.

I'm thankful for my budget conscious mother-in-law for finding this place. Every time I'm in town I make it a point to stop in.

The place is extremely small. Ideally for take out, but they do have very small tables if you decide to sit in. But again, it's small so expect to be cramped.

My favorite are the sticky buns. Large enough for one, but trust me you'll want a second if you're not easily guilt-ridden.

Get a latte if you're staying in. Big mugs that'll make you feel special. If not, their to-go coffees are just as good.

One of the best parts, inexpensive!!

Maybe it was the fact that I didn't get any sleep on our redeye flight to NY. Or the fact that we couldn't check into our hotel at 7am so we had to spend the next 5 hours killing time in the city...so I was uber tired. BUT I know how I like my bread, whether it be sliced for a sammich or baked in mcfatty goodness as a dessert...I like it very warm and slightly chewy and Amy's did not deliver, unfortunately.

I got myself a sticky bun and an oatmeal cookie.

Sticky bun: Not so sweet, not really sticky and super DRY (so hard to tear into and chew!)

Oatmeal cookie: Crumbled, dry, not soft in the middle. Blah.

This place was pretty packed for a Wednesday morning. It's very NY in here, meaning super narrow and seating is very limited in the back.

Kind of a big disappointment for me here.

When I first walked in I was overwhelmed by the crowd at the counter/blocking the door.  But if you walk past the counter you will find tables perfect for 1-2 people.  I ordered the Spinach with Havarti and Roasted Tomatoes sandwich.  I wasn't in love with the bread which is kind of funny considering.  The sandwich itself hit the spot and was really filling.  Maybe next time I would order something with meat in it.  My friend had soup that came with a big piece of bread.  She enjoyed it.  The table was a bit of a tight squeeze but after consolidating our trays and shifting around a little it worked well.  I was fascinated by a (skinny) girl sitting next to us who ate a huge piece of cake and an entire donut.  Perhaps she is just letting me know that next time I shouldn't bother with a sandwich and should just use the calories for dessert.

I enjoyed the Almond Toast Brioche - which is just like the middle part of an almond croissant, except with out the parts that don't have the almond part!  The Sticky Bun is also good.

I also really liked their Grilled NY State Cheddar Cheese which is on country sourdough with spicy chipotle pepper puree, red onions, tomatoes & fresh cilantro.  It's a good sandwich that tastes like the grilled cheese and the tomato soup all in 1 sandwich.

I was eyeing the cheddar biscuits but didn't have a chance to try it. I'll have to pick up more pastries to try next time.
