I really like this place.  I think it's a bit pricey for dinner when you can go across the street and get equally as good food for half the price at Bento, but their lunch prices at Amura are great and you get lots of food!

I always get the same thing when I go.  The teriyaki chicken lunch box.  It contains your meat, miso soup, ginger salad, fried rice, spring rolls with dipping sauce, and those crunchy noodle/cracker things.  I'm not a huge fan of their fried rice, so I always substitute for white, but everything else in that box is delicious.

The service is pretty quick during lunch and your food comes our fairly fast.

My sister was in town last weekend and we decided to do a sushi night out. I read in the Sentinel that Amura was voted the best in Orlando so we went there. I knew it was going to be a bit pricey, but still, there are hardly any rolls under $13 for dinner. The rolls are a decent size though.

For starters, we had the chicken lettuce wraps, which tasted similar to P.F. Changs, but not as good. Then we had a volcano roll, Kiwi roll, and another that I cannot remember the name. I've definitely had better sushi. To say that it is the best in Orlando, I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was still good, but it didn't blow my mind.

I have just now started to expand my palate in sushi dining. Although I love love love Fugi Sushi in Waterford lakes, we tried Amuras on Church Street.

I tried the Volcano Roll, California Roll, New Zealand Roll, and a side of Chicken with rice. and of course the rice wine It was AMAZING. Very nice, intimate atmosphere, a bit pricy.

Great location in the heart of downtown Orlando.Very clean! I wasn't too crazy about the New Zealand roll. It did not look or taste that great. As a matter of fact ,we didnt even eat it, and they kindly removed it from our bill once they saw we only tasted it. The service was good, but not the best in making you feel your suggestions were the best choices.  Overall nice place!

There are three Hero Rules that I know about, you may have more.  The third one I just came up with.

    1) Never meet your heroes.
    2) If you're a fan of the UK Top Gear, never drive your childhood dream cars.
    3) Never revisit your first love in sushi restaurants.

Granted, when I first came to Amura some time in the mid-1990's, I knew absolutely nothing about sushi.  I learned, though.  But the more sushi I tried, the less frequent my visits to the downtown Amura became.  It wasn't intentional, but there is so much sushi in the greater Orlando area to be had, it's difficult to keep repeating the same places when the excitement a something new was always around the corner.

My love of sushi exploded in the last couple of years, and between Yelp and http://restaurant.com there were so many options that I hadn't set foot in Amura since probably 2009. Scores of sushi restaurants later (33 reviewed in my list in the last 6 months alone) and finally, after so much time, we decided to head back to the downtown Amura to remember what we had always loved so much.

And of course, the Volcano Roll.  The one must-have item on everyone's list, including mine.

What a shocking disappointment then, to find ourselves in a solid three-star sushi restaurant. We ordered four rolls (maybe a bit optimistic on our part, but we were hungry).  All of them were smaller than we had remembered from previous visits, and they seemed to have been rolled by an amateur sushi chef, as we had trouble with several of the pieces falling apart on us.

The first three rolls we selected (Africa, Atom Bomb, and Super Protein Rolls) were reasonably fresh tasting but were completely uninspired.  They all looked exactly the same, and with the exception of one having a bit of eel sauce, they all tasted basically the same too.

Our fourth roll was the infamous Volcano Roll. In days gone by I had dreamed about it, remembering its incredible deliciousness with a flavor so big that they had to put it on a separate plate away from the other rolls.  They still did that, but the plate was half the size I remembered (real or imagined? I don't know for sure).  The roll was... well, it was just plain sad.  It was small and tightly rolled with microscopic ingredients and while the topping still tasted good (that was always the best part, after all) it couldn't save this waking sadness that was once my sushi holy grail.

Friends, I don't want to steer you wrong.  And to whom I've previously sung my praises of the downtown Amura, mea culpa. It's not what I remember. I can make it up to you though, through my list of reasonably current sushi restaurant visits, ordered roughly by awesomeness. http://www.yelp.com/li...

I was really stoked to eat here, especially after reading so many great reviews.

Maybe it was the hype from the positive feedback, but Amura did not live up to my expectations. My experience here definitely wasn't as good as my visit to the other Amura about a week ago.

The service was good, and the rolls were beautiful... but as far as taste was concerned, I just wasn't crazy about them. At all.

    Here's what I got:

Cocoa Mango - The idea of this roll was very exciting to me. The appearance was also great. The taste, however, was just not there for me. It was pretty chewy, and the flavor just wasn't *there.*

Unforgettable - Kinda squishy and quite frankly, it was forgettable.

It's obvious that I'm not a professional sushi reviewer, but I've had better-tasting sushi at other sushi restaurants in Orlando. I'd recommend you visit them before visiting this one... and if you're on Church Street looking for a great meal, I'd visit Hamburger Mary's before Amura every time. Hands down.

I'm a big fan of eating downtown, Thornton Park, Winter Park Ave., and the like.  Amura has not disappointed me in years.  I always split a volcano roll with my wife, and then we each order another plate.  Usually I get tempura shrimp roll or spicy surimi, no eel for me.  I like that the miso soup and salad are not overly filling, leaving room to enjoy the main course.  Iceberg lettuce never tasted so good, save for a nice wedge salad with blue cheese and bacon...but I digress. Sushi is never my first choice, but Amura or Bikkuri arethe only joints in Orlando, IMHO.

Best sushi I've ever had.   Order the NINJA CRUNCH sushi roll if you get a table!   WOW!  This place was packed until 11 pm and the vibe was cool.  The servers did the best they could in a busy place.  The prices were in line with downtown Orlando.

Good location when I walk around in downtown friends and get hungry. Although I think I prefer the one on Sand Lake because it has dragon rolls (eel rolls), and I didn't see my dragon rolls on the menu at this downtown location.

Rolls are pretty fresh and they get creative with these rolls.  My friend got kiwi rolls which tasted sweet and good, but definitely not in my league though, sushi rolls here pretty americanized.

As a hardcore Sashimi (raw fish) fan myself, I was disappointed with their selection of S\sashimi on the menu.

Ate here god knows how many times while living in Orlando, and every time I visit I try to stop in. Why? The Tuna Bonsai Roll. (the bubba and rolls royce (which at the time they only made at the dr phillips location, don't know if that's changed) are also very good) Sometimes if I'm feeling brave I'll order the Atom Bomb Nigiri, which is really just a ton of wasabi and roe.

The service has always been great, whether in a group of two or twenty, the fish is insanely fresh, the flavor combinations are really creative, and the chef specials never steer you wrong! I do recall thinking the beer/wine prices were a little higher than expected, but maybe that's just Orlando these days.

I do LOVE me some amura but this may be one of my least favorite locations for variety or rolls and drinks.  It is just Saki, wine and beer and I usually love a brilliant martini with my sushi.

This location is very small and tucked away in a corner on Church Street.  The location is extremely convenient for when you want to do a night downtown and want to grab some yummo sushi before you start the evening.

The sushi is always fresh here and the volcano roll will never steer you wrong.  The reisling is delicious as well. There are some booths but mostly tables and they are very close to eachother. It isn't the most romantic setting, more of a dinner place for friends or a start place for a great night!

Amura just happens to be one of my favorite sushi places in Orlando. Definitely is in my top 2 along side Fuji Sushi on Lee Rd. This location is super convenient to downtown and would be a perfect stop before going out on the town or before hitting up an Orlando Magic game. My only complaint is that the restaurant itself is quite small, well compared to the Sand Lake and Lake Mary locations. The inside could use a complete renovation. Decrease some of the seating and put in some quality tables and booths would attract more customers BUT I like coming here cause it never gets too crowded.

Food Time!!! Must get items and these items are strictly the reason I keep coming back -- drum roll please -- NINJA TUNA CRISPY and SUPER MEXICAN ROLL!!! I didn't think much of this place until my neighbor (hey Andy!) demanded taking us there to have this food. Ninja Tuna Crispy (because it's not described anywhere on the menu) is cubed sashimi tuna rolled into a baseball sized ball along with lil rice crispies in a sweet sauce. Then they drizzle a sweet white sauce over the top and garnish with some fresh ginger. It is then served over sliced carrots and some fish roe. (check the Ninja Tuna Crispy pic I posted). This dish and the Super Mexican Roll with definitely tickle your senses. Usually I'll pick out a random roll to try each time I go. All of the other ones are pretty decent as well.

Prices are standard for a sushi restaurant located downtown. The service isn't terrible either. Usually they are pretty attentive but then it doesn't get terribly crowded. Also, the sushi chefs are actually Japanese.

This is the Japanese restaurant that doesn't know much about Japanese food and Japanese culture.
They have Sushi menu but besides that, this place is nothing like the restaurants in Japan.
We ordered Fiery Chicken and Tokyo Orange Chicken. Not bad but not memorable. You could order the similar dish at other Asian restaurant with cheaper price.

Their waitress was rude and that is my major reason for giving them 1 star.

I understand their "Japanese food" are americanized since their major target markets are Americans. But I really want them to know about Japanese Customs, Etiquette, and Culture a little bit more before they open the restaurant especially when they over charge their food.
When I saw $15 for Yakisoba, I thought it was a rip off.

I'm not coming back.  Bye cha!!!!!!!!!

This location underwent an overhaul. It's more sophisticated now, competing with Ichiban around the corner.

The sushi is tasty, for sure. I sampled the Philly roll, Atom Bomb roll, Bamboo Wine roll, eel roll and the staple: spicy tuna. All were satisfying.

Service was sufficient, but it felt a bit forced at times. (Read as: timely, yet stale.)

The clientele is a mish mash of downtowners, with a heavy emphasis on attractive women with enhanced body parts. "Check please!"

We ended up wandering over to Amura due to Hamburger Mary's being packed for a raunchy talent show.

It was utterly packed, being a Friday night, but they had some table space available, so off we went to a magical land filled with dancing fish and sad pandas.

The sushi was just peachy. I've definitely had better, but this is something I could totally see myself eating all the time if I was in the area, which is what it seems like a lot of the business folk in the area do. We had the tuna, spider, crunchy, and Florida rolls. I also took a plunge into the dark, unknown depths of sushidom and got some uni -- which was not as bad as I was built up to expect it to be.

While the sushi was good, my friends got some cooked dishes which -- for the price -- were not amazing at all. We're usually the type to take food we don't eat home, and we opted to not do that with the cooked food here.

Either way, I liked my meal and if I'm in the area and feel the need for sushi again, I'll definitely pop by!

I was in Orlando fro the weekend and we just left Star 94.5 block party. We decided to walk over to the sushi bar, because my friend who lives in Orlando loves it. The atmosphere was cool, the staff was very nice .... every minute you drink was half full the came by to fill it up. The tempura rolls that we ordered were oustanding. One was spicy and was sweet...best of both worlds:0.  The food was swesome and tasty!!!

Great location if you want a decent meal before going to the bars.

The miso soup and ginger salad was very good but it's hard to screw that up. The rolls were okay but nothing spectacular. The reason I'm only giving it 3 stars is because the sashimi was not very fresh.

I would much rather go to Seito Sushi or Shari.

This place used to be really fun (my husband and I went on our first date here), but in the past six months or so, it's felt like the restaurant stopped caring.  It got super popular, and then the quality started sliding, it took for absolutely ever to get any food, and the real kiss of death was when I ordered a glass of a more expensive sake and was brought the entire bottle already opened, which I *so* did not want to pay for.

Used to go there monthly or even weekly when I was on a real fish high, but haven't been there in a few months now.  Hopefully when I get around to giving Amura another chance it will be back to fun, fresh, and yummy, as it once was.

Amura is one of the best places in Orlando get sushi! I have a few other favorites, but each time I go there I am never disappointed.

I have grown to love my favorites, and typically get them each time such as the Shrimp(Steamed) Shumai, Volcano Roll (the best!), Super Crunch Roll and Crunch Roll.  Their sashimi is always fresh and is delicious!

In addition I look to their specials to try out new roles once in awhile and I am never disappointed either at their selection. Service is great, and for me the location is convenient since I work in Downtown Orlando.

After a certain local imitation asian fusion restaurant disaster, I decided to get some sushi at Amura in hopes of something I could actually digest.

The sushi was acceptable! I had salmon sashimi, spicy tuna roll, and an avocado roll. The spicy tuna was yum, and the sashimi was fresh.

This place would get 4 stars except for the service...which was a let down...the first thing out of the waitresses mouth was: "We close at 10." It was 9:30. Wow. In other words, "We're closing soon, so you need to hurry up and get the hell out here and not waste my time" sort of thing.

If you go, expect a solid sushi experience, and crappy service. This way, you wont be let down if its bad - and you'll be pleasantly surprised if its good.

Amura was recommended to me by a real person from Orlando, so that's good. Not that yelpers aren't helpful by themselves, they are, but it's nice to look someone in the eye when you hear what they think of something.

I kept it simple at Amura, which is the precise quality where Amura shines which makes it a good sushi place: fresh fish, affordable prices, and creative yet sensible rolls.

It's also nice to get a 180 ml of sake for $6.99. Most sushi places seem to rake you over the coals. Their "house" sake isn't too bad, either.

I selected the Hawaiian Roll, Spider Roll, and I requested a spicy yellowtail roll although it was not on the menu. The Hawaiian Roll was quite good, it was spicy tuna and fatty tuna with cucumber and avocado on the inside, wrapped in salmon on the outside. Really tasty.

The spider roll was really great too, the softshell crab was perfectly fried. A lot of places undercook it, which makes the claw ends inedible and chewy. Some places overcook it, and the taste goes away and the claws disintegrate in your mouth. Amura got is just right.

The yellowtail roll was nice too, they put some cucumber and avocado in it. Oh and they drowned everything in tons of tobiko. I love that. My only problem is that the simple salmon and tuna rolls that are on the menu are listed at $7.98, which would leave me to believe that they'd charge me the same thing for the yellowtail since those fish all cost the same, but instead they charged me $9.98, which unfortunately sent me over my company limit so I gypped them a bit on tip (still went over!) with like 16%.

Amura is going to be my new sushi joint here in Orlando. Although I really like Shari, there's too much flash and trendiness there shown in the prices, which aren't too exorbitant, but not on par with Amura.

Next on my sushi list....Amura's Downtown location.

This is the perfect place to go before having a night on the town...if you like sushi and your stomach can handle it when combined with copious amounts of alcohol hall that is. Amura's is tucked away among the many restaurants, bars and night clubs along Church St. near the I-4 overpass. While it's not very big in size, their food is big in variety, quality and taste.

The first time I stumbled into this sushi joint I had a serious hankering for some good sushi...and it was well fulfilled. Their menu features many of the usual items you will find in an establishment of this kind which includes edamame, seaweed salad, several different kinds and varieties of sushi, tempura and hibachi style cuisine. And like most places Amura has their signature items to set them apart from the competition, which are pressed rolls in addition to a sushi roll named after the restaurant.

As is usual, my favorite rolls to order include the rainbow, spider and volcano rolls. The fish is always very fresh, the rice sticky and the size of the roll makes you feel like you're getting your money's worth. Their signature pressed rolls are also quite tasty, although messy because eating it all in one bite is nearly impossible. The thing practically falls apart when you try to lift it up and dip in the soy sauce. Their tempura appetizers and dishes are also well done. Not too greasy or overpowering with a greasy taste, but just right. I've never had dessert here, but I hear it's yummy. And let's not forget about the sake...definitely a must if you're up for it.

The décor is simple and what is expected of a Japanese restaurant with subtle colors and floral designs throughout. Seating is a bit crammed, but once you start eating and chatting with your friends/family you'll soon forget about that. Service is pretty good, although I have had a few not-so-great experiences here. It all depends on your server. The wait does get pretty bad on the weekends, but I'm pretty sure they do accept reservations. Prices are typical for a sushi restaurant and not considered cheap, but that also depends on how much you order and just how hungry you are.

Overall, a good place to go if you're in the downtown area.

I think the sushi here is a bit expensive.  They up the price just because it's downtown.  Big deal.  But this place is the place to go for a lot of the suits and ties when they come down for lunch.  I hear this place is packed during lunch and dinner.  My sister used to serve here and they are worked to the bones.  Sweat, blistered toes, the whole she-bang.

I like the crunchy shrimp roll.  They take tempura shrimp, tempura batter, spicy sauce and roll it up together.  Fatty and oily but damn good.

Absolutely the best sushi in Orlando, nay, the world.

It gets a bit pricey but only because the rolls are as big as your fist. The sweet, salmony goodness of the famous "Super Crunch" literally changed my life.

The older Korean hostess Yume (I think) is hands down one of the nices people I've ever meet in my life and adds a homey feeling to an otherwise cold douchy icey blue decor. Don't the ambiance intimidate you though, because the food is so worth the upscale boring business crowd.

I live and Kansas and can't wait to come back just to eat at this place.  I just happened to be in Orlando twice this summer and my friend who lived there at the time said we had to go to this place.  I ended up going back the second time I was down there as I liked it so much.

While it wasn't cheap, it was well worth it.  I was quite surprised that this place didn't get more stars so I thought I chime in and give my opinion.  I guess everyone can have bad experiences that ruins it for them.  The Volcano Roll was more like a seafood platter than sushi (incredible amount of meat on top of the roll).  I was also impressed with the Super Mexican (name?) roll along with their Crispy Tuna (name?).  It appears that service has been a major complaint but I thought it was fine....and we were there on the weekend right before heading to the bar.

My advice would be to at least give this place a try if you are in the area.

Sushi was amazing, had to wait quite a while for our meals even though there was only two tables in the place.  But other wise everything was wonderful!

Amura in Dr Phillips is worthy of my five stars. This location, since its downtown, probably has to put up with a lot of drunken patrons. Their staff is not too friendly, and they slack a little on their sushi roll presentation. The Volcano Roll at this location is very messy and mushy. Way too much spicy mayo and falls apart when you pick it up. It still tastes good, just doesnt look as good. Their sashimi is pretty fresh. I would definitely come back for more food next time I'm in town.

Amura has my favorite sushi roll in the world.  Chef Special #9.  This is a must try roll if you eat at Amura.  I eat at the one downtown but I have been to the one out in Dr. Phillips is better.  You do not need order more than 2 rolls there due to the size of their rolls.  I've never had a bad meal here and highly recommend this place.

Pleasantly surprised...I wasn't too sure by the outside appearance, as it's located amongst fast food and night clubs.  The rolls were delicious though - great variety and specialty rolls.  Service was good.

To be honest, I hate the sign of this restaurant out front....makes it look like a grimmy imitation Japanese place but it is extremely far from it. Impressed from the staff, service, and most importantly the FOOD...perfect sized rolls not to small not to large and the best variety of rolls and food. I had the seaweed salad, i think its called gauchi (im probably wrong), and the tokyo roll, my friend had the hurricane roll...i previously had this roll here...both rolls are AMAJING!!!!...MY FAVORITE SUSHI PLACE IN FLORIDA SO FAR....Not only was i excited to get my meal but i continuously starred at other plates being passed around... this is going to become a definite revisiting place of mine... number one choice for wanting sushi and trying their different combination of rolls and splendid dishes...

I want to amend this review because this location does not deserve 5 stars. I still think the sushi is very good but the service and presentation has gotten a little complacent. If given the choice I'd much rather go the the Sand Lake location which is a much cleaner and more modern. I think the service is much better there too; the downtown Amura has wait staff that seems bothered. This is probably from years of drunks stumbling in after a night of drinking. (Hey, that was us a few times too!)

I don't go downtown very often but it's either Amura or Ichiban.  This one is pretty much the same stuff as the one at Dr. Phillips area but the place is smaller and tight seating arrangements and it can get really packed inside like sardins.  It's probably good if it's really cold outside.  Typical good sushi and other standard selections.  Nothing was standing out begging to be eaten.  Enjoyed it before everyone got drunk and puke it all back out! :)
