HANDS DOWN. The BEST meal I had in DC. We came here after hitting a couple bars and the hookah lounge. I think it was around 2:45am right before it closed. I ordered two falafels and two fries. As soon as i ordered the guy goes: you want two fries? have you been here before? No, well we still want two fries.. and yes we ate them ALL.

Once you order your falafel you get to mound on the toppings from the topping bar. BEETS!!! I love beets and so I made my bf pile them on. If he doesn't want any I will eat them ALL. The bf also put on some other sauces and toppings. We got garlic sauce and ketchup for the fries.

Then we sat and we ate and we almost went to heaven. Those suckers were good. Like really good. The bf isn't big on Falafels but we were almost done and he asked me if we should get another... Umm.. i think ones good we also have fries.

We have falafel drive-in where I'm from in the bay area and this blows it out of the water. I'm soooo sad its all the way in DC. I guess it will just be another excuse to pay another visit!

Now this is how healthy food should be.
This was seriously the BEST falafel I've EVER had. Then again that's not saying much since I've only had it once before in Israel. Everything except 3 or so items were vegetarian. Falafel is deep fried in canola oil, so the whole meal (minus the soda) is actually pretty healthy.

My favorite was the garlic/parsley mix. Absolutely delicious!!! We told the guy this was our first time here and didn't know what the protocol was. He literally explained everything to us (luckily there weren't really any customers behind us). The regular sized falafel (5 balls) plus all the toppings was enormous. A small would have sufficed just fine. If you get the combo for $10, expect to leave VERY full.

I can't wait to go back.

I can not rave about this place enough!  If you like falafel with a bountiful amount of "fixin bar" style toppings, then this is your place.  Its worth the wait in line at 2am, which moves fast, for this delicious $4.50 pocket of awesome-ness.  (how hipster of me to say, but its true).

No plates, no forks....environmentally friendly wax paper to hold your pita and wooden "stabbers" to gather up the condiment goodies.  Talk about condiments...so many...from tangy pickled veggies to hummus to cilantro of all things.  If Anthony Bourdain were to make his way to Adams Morgan, I's hope he would stop here after gorging on the neighborhoods ethnic variety of Ethiopian, French, Jamaican....etc.

The restaurant itself is quaint and cozy, on the second floor of one of this cities charming brownstones. (Sorry to sound so much like a tourist guide) Exposed brick walls and posters of Amsterdam and delicious foods adorn that walls.   I'd only recommend sitting during the day, or outside on the ground level patio when its....well any other time but winter.  Otherwise, its "balls to the walls".  For a late night, after the bar snack, just make sure you can walk up the metal staircase and know when to move forward as if you were being served by the soup nazi....hipster soup nazi that is in this case.  I recommend gathering extra topping, using your wax paper carrier as the means to do so, thus having some tangy finger snacks to start your meal with.

Also, TIP these guys.  They work really hard for you, especially when majority of the customers are obliterated and obnoxiously bantering with their friends far above a normal inside voice.  They make everything right in front of you and its extremely clean.  No charge limit and I believe they are open until 3am on weekends.  I hear the fries are good too, but just the small falafel is enough for me.  Comes on wheat or white. A small is pretty filling for a normal appetite and around $4.50.

Skip the jumbo slice and the nightly fist fight out front and walk down to Amsterdam.  I come from the burbs sometimes for this, though don't bet on parking.  I have a friend with a garage a block away, so I am able to bypass the main drag and not deal with parking.  Don't even bother driving onto 18th street around bar closing...its like trying to drive on Bourbon St.  Not going to happen.  Amsterdam is such a refreshing change from the average and typical late night snack places in Adam's Morgan.  I really hope this place sticks around for a long, long time.

I was just browsing Yelp for a new place to try tonight and saw that I had never reviewed Amsterdam Falafel.  The horror, I know.  I'm sure that MY REVIEW will stand out among the 400 that already exist.

Since I know that isn't the case, I'll keep it pretty short and sweet.

Ive been plenty of times, usually at the end of the night or before a kickball game down in AM.  The falafel here is 2nd best in town (used to be the best) to Maoz, but this place is top notch.  The falafel are very moist and not crumbly and dry like some places.  The fries are ok, but I never order them.

The salad fixings is their only real place that could use improvement.  Most places like this offer unlimited toppings.  Here, if you come back up for more they either tell you no, or give you the stink eye.  The place is always packed, so I get that they may want to keep you from eating it all, but come on, that stuff is cheap.

They only take cash, so save some after your night of drinking...water.  Id rather have this over the crappy jumbo slice ANY DAY.

I should start eating at certain late night places while I am still sober.  Honestly it would do me good.

I heart Amsterdam Falafel!  The topping choices were a little tough, I literally wanted to put everything in my sandwich.  Knowing that was impossible, I selectively chose a few standout items and took my fabulous sandwich outside to sit on the curb and devour it.

I love you Amsterdam Falafel. =)

Why don't we have one of these on the west coast?!?!!??  Because I would eat there every day and become morbidly obese, that's why!!!

The falafel here is soooooooooooo good, and fresh, and hot, and tasty, and just all around scrumptious.  There are supposedly all these rules about how many toppings and sauces you can try and about returning for more, but the guy let me do whatever I wanted and take whatever I please and it was AWESOME!!!!

"OMG so good" was my review draft (via the Yelp app on iPhone) because I really didn't want to waste one more second with what has to be the most incredible falafel I've ever eaten staring me down. The fries were also calling my name.

I guess it's the toppings just as much as the falafel itself, which I get in the whole (?) wheat pita. I've been three times in two weeks because it's the best lunch I've had in quite some time. I'll be back on a very regular basis since I work downtown.

The toppings "bar" is something out of the ordinary and it really makes something that's already wonderfully tasty and well prepared cross the border right into the mid range of phenomenal. The eggplant, if you get there early enough, will melt in your mouth and make you an instant fan. The rest of the toppings are fresh and fantastic.

The only problem  here is how to fit them all in your pita... oh yeah, smash your balls. That's right, smash 'em!

Ummmm, this place is pretty damn good.  Even if you come just for the fries and Dutch mayo, you have spent your time well.  As for the falafel itself, it's very good, but come on, the real reason you go is for that beautiful salad bar.  Definitely check this place out.

Bring cash (no plastic accepted)
Bring your appetite.
Bring clothes you don't mind spilling falafel toppings on.

I don't really like falafels but I like these falafels. What's a falafel anyway? Like a tasty chickpea fritter that's crunchy on the outside and soft and spongy inside. Meat-eaters will fall in love.

You get your falafel pita (small, which is pretty big for a hungry appetite about $4) or regular-size (bigger pita bread and more falafel balls I think $5). They offer hungry-man combos with reg pita, large fries and large drink for about $10.

You squish the pita sandwich to flatten out the hot falafel balls(!) then you insert and smother yummy hummus or baba ganoush or yogurt sauce and pile on spicy stuff, veggies, salads, and all sorts of colorful fun pickles and garnishes.  I always get the small because the pita gets ginormous after adding all your toppings from the self-service topping bar.  (You have to add all toppings the first time around, adding more is considered a refill you have to pay for.)

The french fries and dipping sauces are yummy too. They have spicy peanut sauce, mayo, garlic sauce, tahini...

Just take note, this is a high-fiber meal so be prepared to release some of the happy steam that accumulated during your falafel adventure :)

After spending a year in Israel and eating the best Falafel in the world, I am very picky when it comes to a good pita and falafel...oh and of course it's toppings.

I went with two of my friends who were also in Israel with me, and to my dismay they said this was the best falafel...IN THE WORLD! I was shocked...then they retracted their statement to say in the U.S.A. So I decided that we should definitely make an appearance at Amsterdam Falafel.

We walked in and it was exactly how I wanted it to be.  The toppings you could choose yourself, and there were a limitless amount of the best toppings you would ever put in your pita bread.  The falafel balls were just the perfect size. Not too big, and not too small.  Just delightful.

After getting my small sized pita and falafel I layered in the hummus, tahina, tzadiki, and cucumbers, tomatoes, and of course a few pickles to top everything off.

It was magnificent and hit the spot after a long day of sightseeing and paroozing the city.  The fries were great as well. Overall yum factor here. Definitely worth going to...took me back to Tel Aviv :)

This is a dining experience that will change your life.  If you haven't eaten here yet, then you should.

The falafels are hot, fresh, cheap, and crisp.  The toppings bar is All-You-Can-Fit-In-Your-Pita-Before-It-Tears, make sure to cram as many deep fried eggplant in there as you possibly can.  Then go back and have another one because they are so freakin' inexpensive.

Make sure to pick up a stamp card.  I'm so jealous of my friend who lives within walking distance of this place.  If it were me, I would fill up a stamp card every week then give away the free falafel to some poor soul who hasn't yet experienced the enlightenment that is Amsterdam Falafel :)

If the owners ever read this: Please come to the West Coast.  We need you.

This is the the Gold Standard when it comes to falafel shops, so much so that I have driven out of my way and fought Adams Morgan,  night  traffic to enjoy their two great items Falafel and  Frieten (fries) if you are near DC, this is one place that you have to go and enjoy its great for a dinner or after night on the town. The only reason not to go is if you are allergic to chick peas/ fava beans.   Their falafel is always perfect and never soggy or burnt, probably because I have never been there when there wasn't a line out the door or close to it, and they have tons of different toppings to "make it your perfect dinner" The prices are best value in all of DC.
Be sure to end your Amsterdam Falafel shop experience with one of there amazing brownies!

Falafel and Fries with a plethora of choice toppings...

It seems as though in life choices can be the bane of people that like things straight forward.  You know I'll take the Big Mac combo meal and super size it.  For those of you that like to expand you palate and try something outside the fast food bun than try a fried-chickpea fritter in pita bread: the falafel.

I'm not sure if Amsterdam is a mecca of falafel or what the significance is however AF has falafel and fries with some pretty good sauces and toppings.  I think you can over stuff your falafel so pick some of the things you like and go wild.  Also the ketchup and mayo mixed goes really well with the fries.  I used to be squeamish over the whole eating fries with mayo but as my buddy said about choking fetishes: "don't knock it, till you try it."

Cash only.

The falafel was pretty good but they gentleman at the counter was rude; probably the rudest place in DC.  I got a falafel to-go and asked if I could get a container for the topping and he said NO.  So I took the falafels out of the pita to make some room for the toppings and asked if I could have an extra paper thing to put my falafels and was told NO.  (Basically if you eat there you can fill your falafel with as many trips to the toppings bar you like, but if you take it to-go you are SOL.)  The rude dude even said something about how I wouldn't want him to bring the owner because the owner would go ballistic.   I put the falafels in a napkin and filled the pita as I liked.  The guy behind the counter was not pleased at all with my ingenuity.  I wasn't being a piggy, but taking as much as I would had I eaten there.   But guess what?  Next time I go I'm bringing my own tin foil for the falafels.  They can't stop me!!!

They intentionally make it hard for you to add toppings, leave barely enough space.  Makes me wonder why they are soooooo stingy??????

And, the fries are meh.

Wow. Where do I start?

I lived on falafel in college and never wanted to see one again. However, this little shop changed my mind.

Once you order your falafel, you are welcome to cram as much in the way of sauces and condiments into your sandwich as you possibly can. The choices include: pickled beets, tart yogurt sauces, Dutch mayo, cucumber slices, spicy onion chutney, and on and on. I don't know the names for all of the gastronomic delights awaiting us at the topping bar.

These days, I'm not much of a french fry eater. However, I have to make an exception for the salty crisp delicacies created by these folks. Wow.

After I'd taken a few bites of my sandwich, the falafel maker asked me how I liked my sandwich. I told him it was amazing.

We've taken out-of-town visitors here -- the visitors loved it -- and will brave the limited parking in Adams Morgan to visit from the suburbs.

Thanks to this shop, we've had many good-natured arguments about the best way to create a sandwich. Do you smash the falafel before adding condiments? Perhaps the best way is to remove a falafel before adding condiments? I think the latter is the way to go. No matter what you do, be sure you get enough of the sauce -- whichever you choose -- all the way at the bottom of the pita wrap.

Today I was reading about habituation in the Washington Post. The writer said he liked to chop onions all different sizes so some would caramelize and some would retain their bite. The idea is to offer varied flavors and keep the food interesting for the person eating. The idea behind this is that we stop noticing the flavor if we become accustomed to it.

I am pleased to say that the variety of flavors keeps the sandwiches here interesting. You get a bite of onion there and a bite of garlic sauce over here and the texture of a crisp falafel over there. You don't get bored!

The only drawback is that seating is tight. You might have to take your food with you even if you don't want to do so. In the warmer months, you can eat outside.

Visit as soon as you can.

I don't know anyone who doesn't love this place.  Delicious, dirt-cheap falafels with do-it-yourself toppings and fries in huge portions, open 'til the wee hours of the night, and conveniently located in the heart of Adams Morgan.  They even take credit cards now!

Ate this during the day. While sober. STILL gets *5* stars!!

Took the visiting family here (including Grandma) for lunch. It was my first time too, but I had passed it oh so many times while out in AdMo. It was a hit all around! My fat kid self got the large, and boy do they give you a lot of balls. I did have a little difficulty getting all my toppings in, but I guess I'm just not a great ball-smusher :(

All the toppings were super fresh, and the owner and her family were all in the shop at the time explaining what everything is. She even made sure we got a seat in the tiny restaurant. Falafel balls were super hot, super crispy, an absolutely perfectly seasoned.

Auntie went back and got fries because everybody else's looked just so good. WOW! Twice fried for crispy, potato-y goodness. We were told to dip it in the "garlic cream sauce?" and wow! YUM! I don't eat nuts, but my family was practically licking the cups that they had filled with the peanut sauce.

I'd go here any time of day! Super cheap too considering you have to undo a button when you leave! I wish I lived or worked closer so I could eat this multiple times a week. Maybe it's better I don't....

Writing about Amsterdam is only making me hungry! The falafel and fries are both just the way I like 'em -- crispy! Though, it's tough to grab a seat during the late night hours, the chillest afternoon can be spent on a random weekday evening, grabbing some twice-fried fritas and sitting by the rarely vacant window seat people-watching. On nice days, you can even grab a seat outside to get a close-up view of the sidewalk traffic in Adams Morgan.

I usually only grab the falafel AND fries if my eyes are hungrier than my stomach -- and even then, I can barely get through the combo. This is a no leftovers situation! Devour as much as you can while the gettin' is good ... and hot!

Sorry yelpers, I dissed y'all after the Saki event to figure out whether I would buy into the hype around Amsterdam Falafelshop.

I bought it all right.

Now as a disclaimer, I don't really know a proper thing about falafels. I've heard something about chickpeas, something something vegetarian, and sometimes they smell like dirty underarms... but when it comes to things like which toppings to use, what the multicolored toppings actually are, something about crushing balls, and how you're supposed to eat a falafel... I know nothing about that stuff. So I approached the toppings bar with ignorance and an open mind and started just piling the stuff on.

"I think this is hummus."
"What is this? beets?"
"I think this is some kind of hot sauce."
"Cucumbers! Green vegetables sound good."
"Yogurt sauce?"

Once my pita pocket could be filled no more, I was good to go. We sat down at a table, watched the crazy party people with their neon green and purple 80slicious coats and ate our way through some cheap deliciousness. I made mine a little too spicy, but in a good way because it tasted good while burning my tongue, instead of just burning my tongue.

Many a times, what is popular is not always right and what is right is not always popular. But sometimes the popular does get it right. Deep thoughts by Olivia.

Forget the late night, jumbo pizza slices in Adams Morgan!  Go for the falafels instead!

If there is a line, they will come...  and this place was no exception!  I placed my order, waited my turn and as I was handed my falafel, one of the balls rolled out and fell to the ground...  and it happened in slow motion too!  NOOOOOOO!  :(  It was crunchy, yummy, deliciousness in my tummy!  I want another one.

Just don't mind the trashiness from all the people that come in.

This was pretty good falafel.  Moist and crumbly interior with a crispy exterior.  It may be a recipe thing, but I prefer my falafel to be vibrant green (from being freshly ground) on the inside.  It lends a certain flavor/texture that gives birth to dreams and hope... however, this place is still good.

I like the idea of having toppings served in salad bar format.  Load up on cucumber sauce, hummus, fatoush-esque veggies to your heart's content!  Said salad bar is an excellent vector for spreading diseases.  It's like getting an extra treat in your pita!

Also, the place is small.  So it's relatively easy to sidle up next to people you saw at 9:30 club the same night and strike up conversations.  Wwooooo!

I can dig it. Drunk fallafels enormous portions of fries are the bidness.

I got a small fallafel and a small fries and I was pretty full after. And I shared. I'm just sayin thats a good sign.

The quality of it all is pretty top notch, it's a shame they don't make shawarma or anything like that. Anyways go to town on the toppings. I'm a big fan on yogurt sauce but i'd throw in some onions tabouleh and hummus too.

The fries come with ketchup, dutch mayo(WHAT MAKES IT DUTCH?!), and peanut sauce. LIke straight thai tasting peanut sauce. I'm not sold on it yet as a fry condiment and i'll probably give it another chance to impress me next time i go to Adams Morgan.

My final word of advice. Beat the line leave the bar 10 minutes early and save yourself half an hour.

So hubby and I weren't that hungry. It was 10:30 at night. We were tired from all the fun stuff in DC and it was raining outside. BUT I figured when the heck am I ever going to be in DC again? So we dragged our butts out of the hotel room, grabbed and hooded jacket and made the trek to this heaven.

It's small. The large can feed two people. The fries are amazingly crispy. The toppings are so good. My favorite were hummus, this stewed tomatoe thing, garlic mayo, tzatziki, picked cucumbers, and I loved the fries with this peanut sauce.

You don't get any utensils, so i would suggest making multiple trips back to the condiment bar and fill up those little cups with what you want. I regret not eating here more than once during our stay in DC.

I'm sitting in my office, wishing I could hop on the metro right now, gorge myself with a small falafel and a small fry... and then take a nap.  You'll need one afterwards from the impending food coma - portions are generous, so be prepared.  This falafel reminds me of the amazing stuff I'd eat in Paris in the Orthodox Jewish neighborhood, and that's saying something.

The toppings bar includes lots of fresh salads and veg to make you feel a little healthier when you're about to eat deep-fried goodness.  A tip - put the sauces on first, then add the salad options.  You'll be fighting against people who are just walking down the line from the register, but it's worth it.

This place is a post-night-of-debauchery dream, but trust me, it's just as tasty in daylight before the booze.

The price are pretty good. The Falafel tastes good. But what sets this place apart is the toppings options. They have so many it can create a hard to eat sandwich (they don't have forks or spoons), but that just adds to the enjoyment.

I was very happy to find this place because I miss European falafel something fierce. The pita was great, the falafel balls were great. The toppings bar even had kraut! I was in love. It was so good I went back the next day for lunch and I got frites, too! They were tasty. If I lived in DC, this would be a regular spot for me.

Fries and falafel with a mega sandwich-toppings bar!

Walking down 18th Street we spotted this hot spot with patrons spilling out of the patio onto the stoop next door, eating fries out of white paper cones and enjoying every morsel of their stuffed sandwiches. Definitely looked like the place to eat on a Saturday afternoon. We lined up inside to order and next to the register found a fresh-looking buffet with a ton of choices to top off your falafel sandwich from Jerusalem salad to pickled beets. I put a combo of spicy sauce, sweet purple cabbage and some kind of cucumber and onion mix on our sandwich. The topping station was pretty intense and you didn't have much time to think, but the sandwich was great and probably would be with any of the toppings.

I'm giving Amsterdam a 4 star review based on the actual food.

However, it seems that they recently got a case of bouncer envy. Last night I came in for a little late night snack to find the usual long line at 2:30am. I'll admit this is not the best time to go here - things get a little hectic and messy, but it's so much better than jumbo slice, so i put up with it. Things normally get by fine without the need for someone to police the lines and tell people to move out of the way, but last night my girlfriend was forced outside in the cold after being told she was in the way while waiting for me.

I understand things can get crazy at 3am in admo but seriously, either salad bar bouncer guy has got to go or I will.

In terms of the taste, I would give this place 5 stars. It is delicious.

BUT! I found their system to be a joke:

"To reduce trash on the planet, we do not use spoons, forks or plates" (From their website)

No offense, but this is bull$!@%.

For instance, the fries come wrapped in wax paper, aluminum foil, and a paper cup. They encourage you to put the toppings into plastic cups the size of a bottle cap (which merely requires you to use a ton of them). Not only did I have to use about 10 of these tiny plastic cups, but because there were no plates, I ended up using about 10 times the amount of napkins I would have normally used. You either have to hold your falafel in your hands the entire meal or put a layer of napkins down on the table. If they had just served my falafel and fries on one single plate, I would have produced MUCH less trash.

They put out this dazzling assortment of toppings, then make it is hard as possible to enjoy them.  First, the area is cramped and you feel pressured not to take too much or too long.  They put out items like hot peppers and pickles that don't fit in the falafel pita and don't fit in the plastic cups.  I ignored the strange glares and put a bunch in a napkin to take back to my table.

If their true motive was to help the environment, they certainly would not use their current system. Pretending to be environmentally conscious, when you are actually just trying to save yourself money at the inconvienence of customers....NOT COOL.  Pretending to be environemtnally conscious, when your system actually leaves a larger footprint.....BULL$#%@.

As I said, the food was delicious, but after paying $10 for falafel on top of the annoyances described above, I will probably be exploring the area for another option.

Whether in a drunken stupor at 3 AM or out for a casual lunch on a Saturday afternoon, I thoroughly enjoy every last bite of my Amsterdam falafel. It was great the first time I had it and has gotten even better every time since. The best part for repeat falafel offenders is that with a plethora of buffet-style topping choices, you get to continuously tinker and fine tune what goes on those little balls of greatness every time you go.

Once you've figured out your perfect toppings (even with the occasional new addition), it's pure bliss. And of course the fries are superb as well.

The dudes that work there are also awesome and have been very cool about putting up with some pretty horrific drunken antics.(I think we offered one guy that works there a stolen umbrella once?) Any way you pack it, Amsterdam Falafel Shop is one of my all-time favorite places to eat in DC - drunk or sober.

So many reviews, so since I was sort of in the area, I trekked over to sample the wares.

Totally vegeterian, so I sort of felt proud of myself (even tho it's fried, and I just came from the empanada place down the street...)

Hot fresh falafel just out of the frier in a nice warm wheat pita. $6.25 - not too shabby.

The real clincher are all of the toppings you can choose from: hummus and pickled veggies and garlic sauce and tabouli and on and on. Tons of amazing toppings (I am seriously not doing justice to the variety of goodies you can put on your pita).

I am totally a fan. Will get back there when I'm in the area. Hope to see something like this out here in SoCal!

Was looking for a place to eat in the DC area that was good, quick, and cheap.  Amsterdam Falafelshop fulfills all three of those requirements.

It's located right in the heart of the Adams Morgan Neighborhood.  So it seems to be a converted row-house or something as do most of the venues in that area.  This leads to a fairly small and cramped dining area that is probably best described as "cozy".  It adds to the ambiance of the place though.  It just feels friendly.

They basically serve two things: falafels and frites (AKA fries).  They also serve fountain pop and I believe they also had some sort of dessert/brownie on their menu but I was there for the falafel and fries.

I got the regular falafel and regular fries (all for $10.49) and it is a crap-ton of food.  The regular falafel comes with 5 balls (while the small comes with 3) on either a white or whole wheat pita and you get to pack it full of fillings from the condiment bar.

NOTE: Be sure to follow their instructions on how to pack the pita.  I tried to get all the condiments to the bottom of the pita, but was not quite successful in doing so.  I imagine that is only a technique that can be mastered through practice (translation: I'll be back).

The condiment bar comes with plenty of options.  Their website has a full listing.  Definitely some of the better falafel I have had.

The fries were pretty standard.  Nothing to write home about (though next time, I will probably just get the small, the regular size is a pretty generous portion for only 1 person who already has a regular falafel to eat).  Like in Amsterdam, you can get mayo to dip your fries in.  They also offer a peanut sauce and of course, Ketchup.

It's a great place to eat.  I imagine the place to be packed after the bars close.

As already stated, I'll definitely be back the next time I am in the area.

The best falafel I've ever had... ever.
I really don't know why there isn't one in NYC, because it would do really well.

I was in DC last weekend visiting a friend, and after going to Grand Central for an unusaul but surprisingly fun night, we went to  Amsterdal Falafelshop.  I fell in love.  The toppings are so amazing.

I can't remember everything I got, but I had the hummus, baba, garlic sauce, green sauce, and pickled cabbage for sure..  To me it was the perfect combination.

I will be visiting my DC friend more often literally because I crave these falafels often..

Oh, deliciousness that is Amsterdam Falafel--why can't you be a little healthier?

I guess when you pile on healthy toppings you make it a bit better for yourself, but I can't help but eat far too many fries.

It's geared towards the drunken people stumbling along 18th, but it's also totally good when you're sober (which I do not think could be said for its rival, Jumbo Slice).

Anyone who has only had plain falafel needs to come here--it's the many toppings that make the difference.  The oh-so-yummy difference.

Finally got to hit this place up on Monday with the bro-ham after the misadventures we had trying to find the Ollie's Trolley on L Street downtown.  I've heard of this place and always wanted to try it out, but it's in Adams Morgan, so that was a negative.  Figuring it was only 3PM, and with the notion of falafel already in our heads, I decided to give it a chance.  Boy, was it well worth it!  I ordered the $10 combo, and I was surprised to see that it was exaclty that....$10.  No more, no less.  Got the falafel, fries and soda and proceeded to sit down in an attempt to eat this monster falafel.  You get your choice of white or wheat pita, then there's a salad bar for you to choose your toppings from.  They also have hot sauce, peanut sauce, Dutch Mayo (which doesn't sound too kosher to me) and my version of crack, Old Bay seasoning!!!!  The salad bar had pretty much everything, and I tried it all except for the beets.  I had the jalapeno cilantro, the Coco Loco sauce, the peppers and onions, the diced onions in garlic sauce, and a whole lot of other stuff that I had no idea what it was.  I do know one thing though...that shit was tasty!  Hot damn that was a good falafel!  The guys behind the counter were pretty good as well.  They described everything and let us sample the toppings to make sure it's what we wanted.  They're also very friendly and we had some great conversation while I waited the 10 minutes it took for my falafel to be ready.  You also get to see them mash up the chick peas to form into the actual falafel balls...mmmmmmm....baaaaaallllllssssss.  So far, it's the best falafel I've had in the area.  Once I have better I'll be glad to give them a 5 star rating and knock this one down a star, but I don't know if that'll be happening.  This was some good shit!  Thanks, Amsterdam!

Food = awesome, i was a little taked aback the first time i went here bc i wasn't sure about the protocal of the place, but i hastily figured it out and had a truly great dining experience. I wish they had plates, or utensils, but I kind of like that they are reducing the production of waste that way. Kind of a cool way to make it a bit greener.

The fries, i mean you can't really screw up fries, but theirs are great, Frites actually. i just got back from Belgium where frites were made famous, and they got nothing on Amsterdam! totally yummy. All the sauces were good...hmmm yummy.

actually, it's about lunch time, I'm going to go pick some up right now!
