Yum Yum Yum. And open till 3am? PERFECT. Fresh and loaded with tasty ingredients, you can't go wrong here. Seriously, you can't - there's only 3 things on the menu.
A Falafel, a Kabob, Curry Fries and a Coke for like $16? Score. -

A friend and I were planning on attending a concert downtown, but wanted to get some food first. She recommended "Amsterdam Falafel & Kabob".
I had never had this particular kind of cuisine, but was very pleasantly surprised.
The restaurant is nestled nicely in the quaint and historical Dundee area. The actual sit-in portion of the restaurant is very small. You could probably fit 25 people inside tops. If it is a nice day, its much more recommended (assuming its busy inside) to take your falafel to go and eat outside.
The food itself was absolutely awesome. I really enjoyed it. I couldn't tell you exactly what I ate (haha) but, it was fresh, plentiful, and delicious. For just .50 extra, you can add feta or hummus. I added feta cheese and it was verrrrrrry tasty.
With a small menu, but delicious food.... i say, get yourself down to Dundee and get 'you a falafel!
God bless!!

I didn't even know what a Falafel was but I ordered the sandwich with spicy sauce and was suprised!
It was a big sandwich packed with all kinds of unidentifiable stuff, I only recognized lettuce. It was hot in some areas and cold in others, it was tender and also crunchy.
This is definetly the strangest sandwich I've ever eaten, and I enjoyed every bite!
I will go back and try the kabobs next time, maybe the humus too? What the hell is humus? -

We're from Chicago, and found 'Amsterdam Falafel & Kabob' on the Yelp site. The falafel sandwich is HUGE and wonderfully delicious. It's not exactly pita bread, but a flat, crusty-crisp, toasted pocket bread that is a perfect wrap for the myrid assortment of fillings. We had our choice of herb, garlic or hot sauce; couldn't make up our minds, so the "hippie" suggested we take all three! This is my recommendation to future visitors.
I read some of the reviews that said the cooks/cashiers/servers (two guys on duty doing everything in the little quick-service restaurant) were like "Soup Nazis from Seinfeld". Maybe they were showing respect for two retirees, but we had an interesting conversation with them about how long they'd been there (5 years), what was in the sandwiches, how busy they are (business is good), vegetarians in Omaha, etc. We were very pleased with the entire eating-out experience.
And I MUST mention the curry fries! I've never had anything like them, served with mayonnaise on the side (chef's recommendation.) Alas, the portion was so great that I just couldn't eat them all, although my mouth kept wanting 'just one more'. -

This is a great little hole in the wall you have to want to find, and then find parking and walk back to. It's small with three tables are some window seats.
Everything on the menu is excellent. The kebabs are moist and all three sauces offer a different dimension to the lamb. The falafel is fluffy and moist, with a great spice palate. The curry fries are always served hot, with just the right amount of seasoning.
The hummus plate is the most amazing thing about this place. It's fresh made with just the right amount of everything. The plate is served with warmed bread and fresh tabuoli salad. Just a perfect combination.
A note about the service; the "staff" has a pretty mean little hipster streak. If you don't look exactly like the good little Maoists (or whatever the popular political/social/fashion trend is this week) be prepared for a little snobbery. Engaging in any type of casual conversation is strictly forbidden. It's nothing more than a little pretentious douchebaggery, and that can be overlooked for the food you get. Think Soup Nazis, but with out the warmth and humor.
Parking is non-existent and you have to want to find it, but you will be richly rewarded for your troubles. -

Okay, I really love this place. Just over $6 for a very filling meal? Yeah, I'm for it, especially when that meal is delicious! I opt for the Falalfel Sandwich because, well, it's fantastic (with either garlic or herb sauce, so yummy!) and a side of curry fries. I've had better fries, at several places, but something about these... once you start eating them you just can't stop! Oh, but don't let them get cold, as cold curry fries will make your day (or late night) a little less bright.
On another note they do have very limited seating, so during the summer months it can be standing room only in the evening (but outside in the warm air laughing with your friends, that's not really a bad thing). -

Having made finding the best Kabob in every country I visited for a number of years, I feel I am as well equipped to comment on the quality of Kabob as anyone. I don't apologize for this. I don't even pretend to be modest about it. I know good Kabob. Going to Istanbul? Barcelona? Hamburg? The Amsterdam located in the Netherlands? I can guide you to fine Kabob in any of those places. And now I can guide you to fine Kabob in Omaha, Nebraska!
Amsterdam Falafel and Kabob is comforting in its reminiscence of an old world Kabob joint. It looks, feels, smells and sounds much like the small Kabob stands/shops I have made my haunt all over the world. Its small, its crowded, its smoky (cooking smoky), the floor is dingy and it has a menu of which the items can be counted on a less than single pair of hands. (aside: I am always happy when a singular adverb is used to describe a plural adjective, but kinda bummed when the singular is SINGLE...anyway...)
The order I placed consisted of a Kabob, a Falafel a can of Coke and curry fries. Both sandwiches (if that's what you call them here) were massive. VERY generous portions for the 6 bucks each cost. And fully loaded with fresh ingredients and tasty sauces. THIS is what Kabob means to me!
The service was quick enough to not gain notice and the two cats cooking and serving were friendly and cool. I need nothing more from a Kabob joint.
One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time! I WILL be back! -

Yeah, I mean I'm not some upbeat hipster, but I can still appreciate good food and good ambiance. I kind of got the impression that if you aren't Indie, you should keep walking.
The falafel sandwich was good and the curry fries were yum. Nothing extraordinary or out of this world. I said I would eat here just to see what they had. I came, I ate, I will probably not venture there again. -

There's nothing much left that hasn't been said about this place. Sober or not, I can eat a kabob sandwich and enjoy every last bite of it. With 5 items on the menu (kabob sandwich/salad, falafel sandwich/salad, and curry fries), they definitely got everything down to a science. I usually get a mix of the herb and garlic sauce in my sandwich - truly a winner. Just be sure to eat the sandwich fast enough so that they bread doesn't get too soggy at the end. Oh and your fingers will be stained for at least a day from the curry fries with mayo. A small price to pay for deliciousness.

Ok ... why have I not been here before?!?
A friend and I made plans to meet here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Because we didn't make our plans until 1:00 I grabbed the last table available. (others emptied soon after - I get the feeling this small spot gets busy quick over lunch.) I placed my order before my friend arrived - The Falafel sandwich and asked if the curry fries were big enough to share with someone coming in a bit. "Yes - and how about I start your fries and wait on your sandwich until your friend arrives..." My friend arrived just as the fries were up ... we got them with mayo ... hello yummy!
The sandwich popped up quickly. That wonderful toasted bread - the homemade Falafel patties - topped with the veggie salad, herb sauce and the addition of a bit of hummus left quite an impression! I'm drooling just thinking about it
Great food - attentive staff - quaint little spot - I can't wait to go back! -

The menu is small, but that doesn't bother me since everything on it is absolutely fantastic! I come here every time I'm in Omaha, and I'm never disappointed.
If I could take away half a star for the staff occasionally not being the friendliest, but that's outweighed by the food. -

4.25 stars.
Had a HUGE craving for those delicious Curry Fries. It had been a while. Shared a Falafel Kebab with the wifey and got it with a mix of all three sauces.
Pretty dang tasty.
I much, much prefer my kebab with meat, but two are just waaaaay too much for the both of us to eat. Perfect little lunch though. Going to try the salad next time (with meat, of course), and get a heaping mound of those curry fries, too. Can't wait.1 Previous Review: Show all »

First... a word to the wise. I could do without the Obama bobble head doll on the shelf inside. Even in hippy hipster Dundee, half the folks will be put off.
No politics mixed with my food... left or right they are both bitter. lol Still... I am the fairest of guys... I review on the food. Sooooo...
Curry fries and falafel and call it a day. No joke.
The curry fries are a revelation. Served in a paper cone like the old days. And just beyond good. Ethereal perhaps?
Falafel that is crispy outside and fluffy inside and full of flavor. I ate my sandwich in the car and happily ruined a shirt. Screw the shirt. The falafel sandwich is that good.Listed in: Yes...Omaha!!!

I love the flavors of couscous and chickpea in the falafel pita sandwich. The falafel is crispy and very tasty.
Curry fries which is used turmeric powder are interesting. It was a little bit salty for me but I like the idea of curry fries:) -

On our way home from Minneapolis, we stopped in Omaha. Thank you Yelpers. This was a great place to nosh and we didn't feel ill afterwards. Much appreciated as we still had about 7 hours to Denver.
Amsterdam Falafel is a small, unassuming shop in a cool part of downtown Omaha. Having read about the curry fries, those were a must. Hot Mike got the Doner Kabob with garlic sauce and I got the Falafel with herb sauce. Service was quick and efficient, the two guys behind the counter clearly knew how to work under pressure. Not a lot of diners when we were there but there was a steady flow of take-out orders.
Our sandwiches were HUGE, almost open faced beasts. There was some coleslaw on there, some garbanzo beans, the herb sauce which was kinda like tzatziki, some tabbouleh and of course the mammoth, hockey puck falafel. The Doner Kabob looked about the same. Getting your mouth around this fu*#er is kind of a challenge.
Curry fries were awesome, really tasty and unique. We both really liked our sandwiches. I loved the falafel - not the best I've ever had but it tasted fresh and wasn't over-fried. I actually liked the falafel more than the kabob. The meat was good but with the garlic sauce it was just a bit too salty for me. Maybe try the sauce on the side?
One thing : my hands smelled like curry for...days...afterwards. And yes, I do know what soap is. Something about the spice combo on those fries just really stuck to me. If you don't like a reminder of your last meal every time you wave your hand in front of your face, holler at that utensil. -

"Where do you want to eat?" My bf asks
"Idk, this is your hometown, where do you want to eat?"
....and it goes on for another other minute...
"The hard thing about eating in Omaha, for me, is that almost everything is Americanized and it begins to all taste the same, unless it's an ethnic restaurant." Then, I don't remember how he decided but he said,
"Have you been to Amsterdam Kabob?"
"No....what is that?"
"It's good."
So we head to Dundee and park by some house, and walk up. Thankfully we made it just in time, they close at 10 Mon-Thurs and til 3am friday & saturday. it's really close to Ecreamery (a plus if you have room for dessert after Amsterdam Kabob). It's a small restaurant that, I've learned, is quite popular, and for GOOD reason.
The menu is short & sweet and the prices fit right under "CHEAP EATS." The bf gets his regular, Doner Kabob spicy--$5.75-- newbies, think of it as a gyro pumped up with a few shots of steroids. It's HUGE! It has loads of lamb meat, fresh veggie salad (inside), garbanzo beans and the yummy yogurt sauce. You can have it made spicy, garlic, or herb tastes.
I got the hummus plate, because guarans ba barans I ain't gonna finish a sandwich AND a hummus plate --- $4.50---- comes with carrots, this yummy toasted bread, looks like pita but i don't think it is, and a mini tabouli salad. They give you a half full bowl of that yummy hummus and IT IS SOOOOOOOO good!! I normally save my leftovers to eat for breakfast the next morning. Idk what they do to it, but I could probably eat it every day of my life =) Lastly, we ordered the curry fries, which they serve with mayo & ketchup, delish! They even give you mini forks so your hands don't get all curry-ee from the fries.
This is one of my favorite small restaurants in Omaha and I can't wait to eat more hummus and a few bites of the huge kabob sandwich. *cheers* to cheap & good eats!

In a word: wow. Who dreamed up curry fries? Genius! Great stuff.
Heed the warning to eat those tasty fries with the tiny plastic fork they give you with the fries... unless of course you like to smell curry on your fingers for hours later :-)
I had the döner kabob in a pita, with spicy and garlic seasonings. Wonderful stuff! Packed full and almost too big to take that first bite... somehow I managed to get started. Wonderful flavors!
This is the kind of place I'll come back to again and again. -

Wow, I must say my sister suggested a great place to try! We used to live in this area, but never thought about coming to this place as I always thought it was a bar for some reason. Well, one day after picking up my daughter from school, my sister suggested we go to this place to get a snack. I said okay since it is like five minutes from my daughter's school on the way home! Well, we got some hummus that comes with the pita bread and carrots and the curry fries. Oh my goodness! I was so surprised by the taste of this food I had to have another bite, and another, and another! It was so delicious! The hummus is unlike any other hummus I have ever had in my lifetime and the curry fries are to die for! The curry to fry ratio is perfect since there isn't an overwhelming amount of curry, but not too little curry that you only get fry! Needless to say, I loved the food we got here AND we paid like only $8.00 for it all. Will I come back here again! Of course!

One of my favorite places to eat in Omaha!!! I always get the donner kabob with the garlic and herb sauce. Seriously one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! They are also open pretty late, which is rare in Omaha, usually the only things open til 2am are your typical fast food chains...
Only downside, small seating area, but I have never gone there and not gotten a table to sit at, so it's all good! Service is also good and I never have to wait long for my order! -

Monday nights have become my "Try new food" night, and Amsterdam was on my list. I was not disappointed. While the curry fries were tasty, the falafel sandwich was AMAZING!
The herb sauce went perfectly with the crispy falafels and tangy salad. Service was great as well. Thanks Colin and Chad! -

My stomach was very happy eating here. :)
However, nothing like any other falafel I've had but the flavors were amazing.
I ordered a falafel sandwhich - the falafel itself was huge, crispy, and made from green garbonzo beans which was different but delicious. I wouldn't say this is a traditional falafel sandwhich/gyro, seems like someone took all the wonderful flavors of the mediterranian and decided to make their own amazing version of a gyro/sandwhich/whatever you want to call it.
Husband had the lamb donar and it was pretty darn good. We had the curry fries which were good but not anything super amazing, though we still ended up eating all of them.
Yuummmm, I wish I could eat one right now! -

Small menu with big taste (and success!)
I have been a fan of Amsterdam since day one- we went to the grand opening and were blown away with the authenticity of the food (very European in our opinion more than middle eastern or Greek-it's not called Greek Falafel and Kabob people!). You have got to love the bathroom labeled "WC" (wash closet), and the fun/colorful decor inside. Each table always has fresh flowers and there is often reading material for the solo eater.
Although there are only 4 things on the menu-this places speaks for itself.I stick with the falafel sandwich and dont look back, with a side of curry fries to share around the table. Most of what there is to be said is already said below but here are some thoughts other than delicious food..
1.) No Free Water (food makes me thirsty all the time) I think they could certainly work on this!!!!!
2.) Smaller tables which cannot accommodate parties larger than 4, be prepared to eat outside on the picnic benches or find somewhere else to chow
3.) The price is right, and so is the line @ 2 am Fri and Sat. BEWARE!
Love this place and Dundee is the perfect home for it. Three Cheers for Falafel! -

The Doner Kabab sandwich here with lamb is amazing, generous portions too. The hummus side dish was also pretty good and came with lots of pita bread. I wouldn't mind coming back for lunch if I'm in the area.

My boyfriend and I will drive to Omaha *just* to eat here, gasoline prices be damned!!!
Just because the menu is small doesn't mean it is easy to choose what you want. The hummus platter should be called the Yummus Platter. The falafel salad is amazing with spicy and garlic sauce. But my favorite item, HANDS DOWN, is the kabob sandwich with garlic and herb sauce, hold the chickpeas. I dream of that crispy cabbage and tabbouleh...
Oh, and if you give me curry fries with mayo in addition to the kabob, I'll be a happy girl for days to come!! -

Very small restaurant, reminiscent of a food van/cart thrown inside a building with trendy decor. However cramped you may feel, it's worth it. The large portions of spicy and delicious kabob and/or falafel is mouthwatering. The curry fries are TO DIE FOR. The wait for your food is around 20 minutes, but it is well worth it for the price and amount you receive. The menu consists of about 5 items, but everything is phenomenal.

So perhaps I'm a bit biased about my falafels but these definitely aren't even close to the best falafel I've had. Living in Spain for a bit, my diet consisted heavily of falafels, egg omelets, and fresh veggies. The falafels served here didn't compare to what I would consider "sub par" on a bad day in Spain.
They're dry, the falafels aren't tasty, and there's nothing that grabs my attention about the sandwich. However, I do admit they have some great fries...and I guess I appreciate the effort that they make to branching out of the normal Dundee type of food.
Also, super tiny place so not good for groups of more than three or four. -

A small menu means every item is perfected and fantastic. Hate making choices, like large portions, want a cheap meal, searching for food where every bite is a dream? Amsterdam Falafel is it!
I usually get the falafel salad - and let me pause to say they have the best falafel I've ever eaten, moist inside crispy out, full of veg and legume, you will feel so healthy!!! - and it is great as is but best with the addition of feta and hummus.
The curry fries are awesome hot and a made fresh when you order. The order is huge and totally share-worthy.
The donor kabob sandwich (gyro) is as big as your face which you'll promptly want to smash into it, it's that yummy. -

I eat here about once a week. I go for the falafel salad and the occasional falafel sandwich. I'd probably like the kabob if I were more of a carnivore...but I'm trying to kick that habit.
I order my falafel salad/sammy with all three flavors(hot, garlic, herb), hummus, and feta. Absolute flavor. If I want to push the limits, I get the curry fries with mayo *and* ketchup. Then I want to take a nap. Canned soda (famous name cola along with fruit flavored other famous name soda) and bottles of water are the drink choices. I usually bring my own water.
My only complaint is the lack of consistency between prep staff. I usually go for lunch, and there's a man and a woman staffing the place. They are very engaged and friendly. If I go later in the day, it's a couple of bored-seeming guys who don't put as much vigor and enthusiasm into the food. Sorry guys! I've had my fries come up a little too crispy, and my salad a little skimpy and wilted, otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.
UPDATE 6/2011:
I had my first Doner Kebab sandwich a couple of days ago. A huge mount of meat covered with hummus, herb sauce, and feta cheese. Amazing. I could have eaten it over the course of two meals but could not help myself and ate it all in one sitting. I will definitely be getting this again. And again. And again. -

Standing on 50th & Underwood, you'll get a whiff of curry and know you are close. A Dundee must with late night hours on Fridays & Saturdays. Great for the individual who stresses with lots of options. The menu is small with only 5 items from which to choose. The portions are large and oh so tasty, especially the Doner Kabob Sandwich. I highly recommend the curry fries, even my husband who doesn't care for curry likes them. Order them with a side of mayonnaise and use the little fork to eat them, unless you want yellow curry fingers after.

Being a Dundee resident, I feel as though it is a must to love Amsterdam. Having also traveled Europe and experienced this late night drunken street food first hand, I was ecstatic when Amsterdam opened a few years back.
It is great, and completely authentic.
My favorite is the kabob with garlic and herb sauces (you only have three choices of sauce, but they never mind giving you combinations of two or all), and of course the curry fries. I will agree with previous reviews, your fingernails will be yellow for a few days if you don't use the mini fry fork they provide, but it is worth it!
My other bit of advice, is for the ladies, having longer curly hair, I must warn others like me, the curry smell will stay with you as well. One night when my husband was in school, I snuck in for take out and didn't get any for him. Later on that night he called me out on not getting food for him, because he said my hair smelled like curry.
This fun fact, does not change the fact that Amsterdam is delicious, and everyone should try it. They are also open really late if you happen to be in the neighborhood bars at closing time. -

Good. God. I could have never anticipated the size of the sandwiches we got for the price we paid. My fiance and I stopped here on our cross country drive from WI to WA, and it was a very good choice. For under $20, we got two giant sandwiches with feta, two orders of curry fries with mayo, and two sodas. The falafel was fresh and well-fried, and the salad on the sandwich was excellent accompaniment. I also appreciate that the amount of feta was proportional to the sandwich, not skimpy. The curry fries were super, super tasty, borderline addictive, particularly with the mayo; they also complimented the sandwich well. The only (minor) complaint we had is that the spicy sauce is incredibly spicy; it got to the point where my fiance said he could no longer taste his sandwich, only hot, which detracted from the overall flavors. Still, this is a great little nook serving up fresh, giganto portions at incredibly reasonable prices. I am just so, so sad that Omaha is not a place I will be visiting anytime soon - if only for those super-nummy fries!

I stunk up the plane. Seriously, I was getting all these looks by the FA's and questions from other passengers. Was it worth it? YES!!!
I came here prior to my flight out of Omaha airport. I phoned in my order to which the staff cooked my order based on my estimated arrival time. It's a few minutes off the freeway on the way to the airport. I ordered a falafel sandwich and curry fries. Both were delicious. I would say it's slightly below in quality to the famous Falafel Drive In (San Jose, CA) and the famous falafel places in Paris. It is alot of food and does have a strong flavor.
I'll probably stop by here again on my way to the airport! -

First off Pre-packaged Gyro slabs are NOT Kebobs & Amsterdam Falafel & Kebobs does not do Kabobs they do Gyro meat which is a mix of beef, pork & a touch of lamb sliced & built into a giant tower of BAD stuff.
They have a Gyro machine/roaster & that's what you get when you order the Kebob Salad or Sandwich you get Sysco Systems over salted dreg meat gyro. YUK!! A perfect way to screw up some nice Sysco System Greens. The Sysco Systems chickpeas they use are another travesty because they are saturated in salt.
One last insult to ME cuisine that they make is that they are to cheap or stupid to ship really good pita from any of the 10 or so ME bakeries in Chicago that make really great Pita & they serve the faux lamb kebob & felafel on some over-sized plastic white bread buns.
The last in this toxic experience was that the decent greens were awash in either Sysco Systems Oil or Corn oil at best. Not a hint of Olive or real LEMON, 2 ME staples.
If you want to try REAL ME food in this culinary nightmare called Omaha, head over to Basha's Grill on 76 & Pacific. It's the real deal.
To the owners; wake up, you have the right idea and by spending a few bucks more you can serve your fellow Hipster some non toxic REAL food!! A simple picnic table or two out front would be nice also & cheap! -

If I were still drinker I would have given this place a 5 star rating because this would be the perfect treat for anyone who is completely trashed and needs something to mix with all the booze in their stomach. I wasn't but I figured what the hell, its late and I'm hungry. So me and my special lady friend went in(ish...we had to wait half-way out the door cuz it was busy). After a short wait I ordered 2 doner kabob thingies on a bun and went full in by getting the spicy sauce on both and some curry fries.
Even sober I rocked out that well sized, well priced beast and it was pretty darn tasty. My better half enjoyed hers as well and the fries were pretty rad too. Was it a game changer? No. Was it a very tasty treat to cure me late night nibble? Hell yea. So if you are in the dundee area this is a good place to pop in on and get your eat on, sober and/or hammer-faced. Eat up Minions! -

I like this little spot. I ordered the falafel sandwich with curry mayo fries. The fries were fresh and pretty good. Ok, here goes, i've personally had better falafel and better curry mayo fries, but it was all good. The falafel could have been a touch more flavorful for my taste, but it was fresh. The service was quick and there were a few flies buzzing around, but it is summer after all. I probably won't go back, but Dundee is a cute area.
