A friend who lives in Oahu bought me a gift certificate for Ampy's a few years ago while I was visiting and now I visit Ampy's whenever I am in town.  Yeah, it's kind of campy and needs a makeover (very 80's decor), but when it comes down to it, the prices are great ($75 for an hour massage or facial!) the therapists are right on and the place is clean. Where in Honolulu can you get a massage for that price?  Not at any of the hotels!  I've always walked out loving my service, wishing I had booked more services!  This place is definitely a 'locals' spa and you need to book WAY in advance-I booked a month out for a weekday appointment.

Tip: It's tucked in the middle of the Ala Moana shopping center's parking lot in the Bank of Hawaii building.

I came here twice for a massage and was disappointed on both occasions.  I had a hard time booking a reservation for a massage both times and was helped by a grumpy woman over the phone BOTH times.  I think I got the same lady.

On one of the occasions I scheduled for a facial and a massage and didn't like the fact that I got the massage first and had to walk in front of the waiting area and front desk staff in my robe to get to the facial area.  Everyone just looked up and stared at me as I passed by.

On both occasions I just hated dealing with the front desk because I kept getting that same grumpy lady.  I checked in early both times and felt that I was forgotten about on the second trip there because almost fifteen minutes went by before anyone even acknowledged me waiting there.

The frustrating thing is their parking structure.  I had to go round and round all the way to the top to find my numbered stall that the parking attendant directed me to then come down in their busy elevators.  On departure it was even worse because there were like thirty people waiting in the hallways to go back upstairs with the elevators.  I guess there are a lot of tenants and businesses that share the same elevators.  Frustrating.

I know that they put all these pictures on the wall to show that all these celebrities enjoy going to them, but I don't think I'll be returning unless I receive another gift certificate to this place.  Not my kind of idea of relaxation.

Wow, I'm really surprised by all the bad reviews. I've only gotten facials here. I think I've been here 3 or 4 times and each time was a pleasant experience. I left feeling very relaxed and I thought the prices were reasonable. That's one of the reasons I kept coming back. Yes, the aestheticians would try and sell their products after the facials, but they never pushed me to buy anything. I never encountered anyone unfriendly at the front desk.

I have been going to Ampy's for years (probably 15) and think their masseuses really know their stuff. Janice is wonderful! Their prices are reasonable and the location is convenient. I had a facial there about a year ago and had a reaction. I looked like Alice Cooper when I left. They really did nothing to help me (nor did I get any money back) so I will never get a facial there. I will however return for a massage! What others say is true about redeeming gift certificates. It is for this reason that I really hesitate to buy one. Overall I recommend Ampy's!

I like getting massages here but it is almost next to impossible to get an appointment.  You either have to know someone or book two months in advance.   I will never get a facial there again because I had a bad experience a long time ago.   Maybe this aesthetician was new, but she put lotion on my face and used her banana hands to massage it like she was kneading dough.  I was in fear of saying anything, as she was twice my size.  I left with lotion up my nose.

Visited Ampy's during the holidays for spa day with my mom and sister.  My mom has been going to Ampy's for years, but this was the first time for my sis and I.  Mom and sis both had facials, which they really enjoyed.  I had a massage which was awesome.

The staff is friendly and helpful.  The rooms, although somewhat minimal, are cozy and relaxing.  Tip of the day = after your treatment is over, ask for the tea (instead of just water) because it's excellent.

The services I got were decent, but I'm giving them a 1 star for their customer service.  I've heard rumors that they don't pay employees on time and the owners try not to redeem gift certificates, but didn't actually think they were true since the accusations came from ex-employees.  Whoa was I wrong.
My friends and I got gift certificates for one of their packages.  When I called to make a reservation and told them that I had a gift certificate, I was told they were booked until six months from now.  I was disapointed, but figured maybe they were busy.  Then the "rumor" popped up.  The next day I called back, and told them that I was paying with credit card.  Suddenly, I could make an appointment for 4 people at any time, even on weekends!  So I booked the appointment and never told them about the GC until my appointment.
Our fifth friend, actually did the same thing, but called a week before her appointment to change the package to a GC... they called her two hours before her appointment and canceled. (She went on a different day).
This is horrible, while their services are okay priced, I would never go back nor recommend it due to their horrible policies.  Buyer beware when it comes to gift certificates.

Last time I went for a massage. It will go down as the worse massage thus far in my life. It was basically and 1 hr of someone rubbing lotion on me with her elbows.  What's up with that?  The girl kept on trying to rub cooking oil (because that's what it felt like and that's what it smelt like) with her elbows in the same spot for an hour. I felt like a rubbed ham there was so much oil on my body after. I felt more stressed out because it was so bad then I did relaxed.  I asked her to go harder, but for some reason that meant more cooking oil with her ice cold hands instead of an actual massage.  Gave it a two rating because one time I went I had a decent massage. But that one girl has scarred me for life.

I work in the building and have been to Ampy's a few times, each time has been a disappointment. I have had massages, facials and mani & pedi.  The massage was horrible, I asked for deep tissue and was given a lotion rub and this happened twice.  my facial was fantastic but the esthetician talked too much it was difficult to enjoy same goes for the mani/pedi. I left knowing way too much about her life and marraige.  This is not a spa, this place will take your money and give you horrible service and send you on your way as soon as they can so they can take someone else's money.

Got a deep tissue massage, one hour for $83.  Great massage that put me literally to sleep.  I felt high afterwards.  GOOD SHIT!  A definite must every time I hit the islands.
