These guys are great!  I am quite surprised to see a few negative reviews; however, I believe that my review has more credence as I own a multi-unit rental property and have enjoyed their excellent service several times over the last few years.  If they did indeed have a single lame employee, I hope that that has sorted itself out by now.  I once recommended AMPM to a picky coworker who doesn't suffer fools gladly, and she too has been delighted with their service.  The good folks there have always politely answered my inquisitive (and non-revenue generating) questions as well.

I am generally fine with bringing the locksets to AMPM to be rekeyed, and any locksmith should be able to do that work without drama (as does AMPM), but it is the unusual challenges that test a company's service.  One of those things is a fancy lockset made by XXX that has been modified to accept a tumbler made by YYY so that this lock can take the same key as the others in the house.  And to make life more interesting, modifications to the ornate door and the lock hardware require the use of special tools that I don't have in my thousand dollar plus pile of tools, and this engineer hasn't figured out how to improvise a solution.  What is cool is that they have (on multiple occasions) come out and rekeyed that Frankenstein of a lock, and charged me nothing more than their going rate.  Nice!

Another experience a while back had to do with my reposession of a property from some problem children who (briefly) all left at once and gave me a small window of opportunity.  I called AMPM and told them that I needed them there *NOW,* and I didn't care if they were in their underwear or it would cost me a thousand dollars; I just needed them there ***RIGHT NOW!***  Wow; they got there faster than the cops had I called '911,' and again, they didn't charge me any more than their going rate for emergency service.  :-)

The last thing that I want to mention is that their storefront isn't just an ugly counter; they have a water cooler, comfy chairs, and a variety of cool and useful stuff for sale.  When I was recently there, I showed up less than one minute before closing time, but the owner satisfied my several requests, saving me a later trip.  Oh, I expressed admiration for a silly trinket, and he threw it in for free.

I apologize for this review being so long, but in my experience, these guys are tops.

We had them over the rekey a house we just moved into. We wanted to replace two door knobs and add a deadbolt.  One of the two wasn't replaced and they replaced a different set of door knobs that were perfectly fine for $180.

They replaced the wrong locks in our home then when we called to ask why perfectly good knobs were replaced they said knobs should only last 5 years and the house was 10 years old.  I called to ask that one of their experts confirm that the locks they removed were truly deteriorated in some way and they said they'd call back and never did.  They even said "we believe in service" and never even responded.

Oh, and after they installed the new keys, they didn't actually hand over  the keys.  When they returned we were told the boss was angry that the invoice for $500 was under-billed by $80 and we needed to pay that too.  Seriously?

Try going through life with a car that only has one manual key hole to unlock it on the drivers side door.  Your electronic unlock button is broken or has a dead battery and on top of that I have a toddler to man handle into the car.

I took it to San Ramon Auto Repair and they directed me here.  I came two times and the first time they were out on an emergency and the kid working behind the counter couldn't do anything.

The second time I came I was on a phone call in the parking lot and the guy came out and said he had an emergency up the street with a kid locked in a bathroom and had to leave and lock up the store.  I thought I could wait him out but I had to leave on a phone call.

Finally, the third time was the charm and both guys, who could help me, were in the office.  My electronic key thing needed to be re-programed all together.  He got his laptop out and did his key magic on it.

They informed me of the price but I didn't care.  Its not my car and I wasn't paying for it.  Even if it was my car, the price wouldn't matter anyway.  To have to deal with running around the car to unlock it is one of the most annoying events to happen to me.  Doing it with a 25lb kid, purse, baby bag and lap top bag is more than any woman should have to deal with.  The price does not matter at that point.

From what I found out, this shop is one of a few that can actually do whatever they did to fix my electronic key.  Except for the inconsistent office hours I'm very happy with the service.  Just call ahead to find out if they'll be in.

I had the unfortunate need to call a locksmith when I managed to lock my  (not so) smart key in my trunk.  The service wasn't flawless as the computer battery ran out 1/2 through the download for the new key however the owner was so friendly that I actually didn't mind waiting a little while longer.  He seemed to be honestly concerned about my needs and safety.  Hopefully I won't need this service again but if I do in know who I will be calling.

I locked myself out early Sunday morning. Thank goodness I had my phone. I called AMPM and the guy told me he'd be at my place in Walnut Creek in 25-30 minutes. He was a little earlier and was very pleasant. He got me in my house in just a few minutes. Then he made me a duplicate key for free. And honored the Yelp discount. Cheetah was great (but I am fairly certain that's not the correct spelling of his name) and I was able to get on with my day. Thanks for the great service!

I hesitate giving anyone a bad review, but one year ago they put two new locks in at my home.  When they installed one lock they knocked a hole in my sheet-rock.  They tried to repair it; however, locksmiths are not sheet-rock people.  Now one year later the lock handle has fallen off the door.  They may be polite but their skill level left much to be desired.

Used this company for a lockout once before they were ok, took longer than the time frame they estimated me but they eventually got the job done and at a resonable cost, so I figured I would give them a shot to rekey my house and they give me a price estimate and I said let me call around to see what other local locksmiths could offer, called bay lock and key and they were cheaper but not available on the day I needed the work done, then I called ampm back to schedule a more prompt appointment only to receive a different quote by another enployee who was apparently the owner of the shop who apologized forwin correct quite given and told me it would be more, I refused to pay $30 per lock to rekey, my neighbor told me to call dads locksmith and they were at my house in 2 hours, half the price of ampm.

So, based on all the reviews I set up an appt to have 3 doors re keyed. Without going into detail the locksmith was rather late.  Since I'm human too, I decided to give him another chance and I'm very glad I did.  He was more than generous for the mistake that was made and made sure EVERY key was in working order before leaving the premises.  I can't tell you how many times I've returned non-working keys to hardware stores.
Bottom line.  AMPM is extremely customer conscious and wants nothing more to do a great job with your complete satisfaction.  I will certainly return for any and all key related issues.

I needed to cut a key for a 1980, 440cc Kawasaki.  (I had the original key)  I paid $7 for it, and the first key they tried to cut was too wide.  They tried grinding it down, and broke the key, they then told me I was responsible.  After arguing they said come back on another day when someone else would be in the shop, they made me a key that only turned if the front tire was a certain direction.  I noticed when I got home the key didn't unlock the helmet clamp.

I told my dad and he took his second generation key (a cut from a cut of the original) and made a key after work.  During this time I went back with the original key and they told me the back lock was broken and that it would never work unless they redid it.  My dad called me and told me he had the key and he was at the Post Office, so I asked him to come over.  The recently made key (third generation) worked perfectly.

I asked for a refund and was refused for the amount of work they did.  I won't pay for incompetence again.

I recently had to replace the lock on my frond door.  The house is 20+ years old and the old lock has been beat to hell over the years.

I called one locksmith in Danville who just said it will be $500 bucks and then practically hung up on me.  Not exactly the way to win hearts and minds.  I mean, I understand, dealing with the public and people trying to chisel you for few bucks does get annoying - I'm self-employed, I sell stuff, but still how hard it is to be friendly on the phone?  Okay, enough about the crappy locksmith in Danville, who's name rhymes with "Dad's"..

AMPM is awesome.  The guy had the part i needed and came out at 5pm and stayed until 6:30pm installing my new locks.  He made me extra keys for free and he even came back and gave me my money back when i accidentally over paid him.  An honest man.  This guy is a good businessman and you should use him if you ever need locks fixed.

I also noticed that they do electronic keys for BMW, MRBZ, and other european and import makes.  They are way cheaper than the dealership so i'll probably hit them up for that as well.

Oh and one more thing, they sell safes!  If i can convince the better half to let me have a gun, i'm definitely going to buy one of those things - especially the one with the thumb-print identification that is way too sweet.

I can't say enough about this company. They recently spent quite a bit of time with a difficult replacement key for my Toyota MR2 Spyder (apparently 2000 was the year Toyota implemented a different key / computer system in the MR2).  They also saved me a lot of money by coming to my house vs. me towing it to a dealer.  There were complications with the computer system and they definitely went the extra mile to get the job done.

The owner and staff are very friendly.  This is the only locksmith I will use in this area (hopefully I never have to replace my original key again though!) Highly recommended.

I've never used a locksmith before so this may be generous.

I bought a new place an knew I needed to have the locks re-keyed. I called these guys at 10am and set up an appt for 430pm. Daniel the locksmith was right on time, he almost beat me to my house in fact.

Daniel rekeyed 3 locks in 20 mins, it took him 30 mins to fix my front door that was super hard to lock. Total cost was $155, not sure If that is reasonable or not, but I was more than glad to pay that since he fixed the front door and he also fixed the dead bolt in the garage.

A big box store can't replace a good specialized locksmith that offers no hassle service. They are really friendly and they coded a second pair of keys for my Ford Crown Victoria at a very good price. Thanks so much! Now I don't have to worry about losing my first set as much since I have a second spare now. (Not that I would want to loose my first set, but you never know)  :-) Thanks again.

Like the previous reviewer, we bought a new home and need to re-keyed on all locks. Chida gave me the bid on the phone and Danny came over the next day I requested. The bid is not the best deal but I trust the good review on Yelp! Danny is very nice and give me his advise on the main door to prevent my 2 year old escaping out. Lock installed perfect and good work! I hope I don't need to call them again but I know which number to call when I need a locksmith.

    Seriously fast service.

My husband had been bugging me to replace the locks on our front door for almost a week.  I expected to make an appointment for the following day at the very least, but was in no real rush.  When I called the number listed, the gentleman promptly answered the phone and said he could be at my house within 30 minutes!  He was able to replace the front door lock and the garage door lock for $100 within a half hour or so.

I would use this company again if needed.

The only reason I'm giving a 4 star instead of a 5 is because the first person they sent over was late and didn't call me. However, once I called Chida to ask about the guy not showing up, he personally came over to my house within 10 minutes and re-keyed my new house as well as replaced the front door lock.

Chida was very informative, and told me that my front door lock could've been picked in less than 2 minutes! (No, I will not tell you my new address. :p) His prices are reasonable and he's a very nice person. Great service - and I will call him when I want to add a deadbolt to the front door as well as some add locks at my office building.

    Highly recommend!

5 stars.. just like Yelp says, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!"

We lost our key to an old Hon filing cabinet and this wonderful locksmith was not only able to cut the key based on the code on the front of the cabinet, but he was at a job in Dublin and met me on the way back to his shop. From desperation to delight in under 45 minutes!

Honest, polite, fair price, excellent service, and to say 'fast' would be an understatement! Well done and thanks!

I was in a big bind and AMPM saved my pathetic ass.   I lost the key to my lockbox which houses my valuables; including my checking book.  In my desperation I tried to pick the lock with of all things a letter opener.  Well, guess what?   I broke part of the letter opener in the lock.  Then a friend of mine suggested that I try to pry it open with a hammer & screwdriver which made things worse because I broke off the lock.  So I called around to a couple of the places on yelp with reviews and no one could help me because they wouldn't be available until Monday...well I couldn't wait 'cause I had bills to pay!  Luckily, I saw a sign that pointed to AMPM Locksmith just down the hill from me.  I took in the lockbox and explained the situation.  I think most people would have laughed at me but the guy was very understanding and told me all my options.  Then after I agreed to him just breaking it open (I can't find the key anyway!) he took it to the the tool area and was able to open it up within minutes!  He was very respectful of my contents and brought it back to the counter for me to open it up.  He also told me about a finger print safe (about $300) which would solve any future situations of losing a key...unless I lost my finger I guess.  Overall, very knowledgeable & quick service.  I hope never to have a need for a locksmith again (other than simple key copying) but I'm calling AMPM if I ever do!  P.S.  The guy at the counter had gorgeous ice light olive eyes!  Nothing to do with the service but I'd never seen eyes like 'em except in Brazil!

I did not have a great experience with this locksmith. I explained over the phone that my front door lock was sticking and asked what could be done. I was hoping that they could just come out and repair the lock. He asked me to take a picture of the lock and bring it to the shop, which I did. He said I needed a new lock. I'm not sure how he could determine that by looking at a picture. The cost for the lock and a visit woulc come to about $140 or so. He came out the next day with a lock that didn't match the existing lock so the door would need to be repaired. He basically wasn't that interested in investigating the cause or determining the most effective way to fix the problem. It turned into a major ordeal. I declined and called another locksmith. The new locksmith took the existing lock off found the problem and it worked perfectly. He repaired a few other items on the door and even fixed my mailbox lock. All of this for half the price of the other locksmith plus I didn't need to repair the door.

We had AM PM come to our new home today to change out 2 locks. The locksmith, was very professional and nice. He provided us insight to the types of locks we had and was successful in re-keying one which we did not have a key for. The outcome was 2 locks re-keyed and 8 extra keys for $131. Can't beat the price for on-site service and quality. I would recommend them to fellow Yelp members. We also found out that,AM PM can make copies and provide remotes for your car far below dealers pricing. We had a set of keys made for one of our car a few months back and could have saved a lot of money if we used AM PM service..
