great bank... you should definitely consider them for all your financial needs.

Review from Colin D.
Amplify is a pretty decent credit union. Which is to say that it is infinitely better than any traditional bank, but it's not the most amazing credit union I've used either.
I love credit unions. I've used them exclusively for my banking since I got my first bank account and I've always been pleased with how much better my average banking experiences are than friends who use traditional banks. Amplify definitely still fits that bill. They offer free checking. The people there are really helpful with whatever you need. The lines are never long even just before they close. The loan rates are incredible. All the things you expect from a credit union.
That being said, they're not quite as good as the last credit union I used. When I registered for my account they pushed the idea of a personal line of credit pretty hard even though I wasn't interested and (mostly by accident) they had us signed up for paper statements which incurred a $2.25 fee. (They waived the fee when we called to say we didn't want paper statements.)
In general, they have a slightly more banky feel which is good and bad. It's good because they have better investment options like an 11-month, 1% return CD, but it's bad in that the seem to be more focused on growth and encouraging you to features than I would like. I'd rather they focus on just making sure all the current members were happy.
Overall, I think it's still the best option for local banking in Austin and I'd recommend anyone else to open an account here if they were looking. -

As all the others have stated I have banked with Amplify when they were still IBM TEFCU. I joined when I moved to Austin umpteen years ago, or many moons ago or so to speak. Kemo Sabe! Hi-Yo Silver, away! OK for all you youngins out there who road the horse named Silver!
I have had car loans, personal loans and a safe deposit box here as well, never had any problems. I have portions of my 401K here.
They remodeled when they become Amplify and did a very good job of it, I like the TVs you can watch when you are waiting for a specialist to help you, although the waits times are very small if at all.
I like the drive up and the walk up money machines.
I like the online services the best, I do my entire bill paying etc. from home now, and their website is easy to use.
Would I go back? Yep, they have my money! -

I love Amplify!
Back in 2009 I decided to buy a new car, but because I had limited credit I had to have my parents cosign the loan. Well after 2 years I finally got decent credit so I decided that it was time to put the loan in my name. Amplify was awesome through the whole process, explaining everything in layman's terms to me, and got me an excellent rate. They were also very friendly.
Because of all this I decided to ditch my previous bank, Wachovia (which became Wells Fargo, the very bank I was avoiding due to bad past experiences with them). -

Since '06 I've been happy to hand over my money to Amplify. They were still IBM Federal, but the switch was just over the horizon. All I needed was a place to have money direct deposited and maybe net a little interest. They delivered.
They delivered and continue to deliver much more. My experience with previous institutes, primarily banks, included unknown charges or double-deductions from my account. I expected the same with Amplify, and so follow my financial statements carefully. Not even once since opening my account with them has there been a questionable transaction on my account. I didn't think such clean service was possible.
Another thing to note is that the majority of the people you interact with at their locations are fun and knowledgeable people; you want to interact with them. They've got clean (and stylish!) locations, with free coffee and water in the lobby. I'm just saying... well... you know, it's been said. The grouchy face tellers of the past are not fully erased from the place, but they are extremely few and far between.
Storytime: I usually visit the Pond Springs location, but got adventurous about a month ago and headed to the Burnet one. By "headed" I mean I got off the bus at 183 & Burnet with the fuzzy memory that there was a location nearby. That was a longer walk than I expected.
When I got there, and in true Austin-style, I already knew one of the workers personally. Rock. I told her what I was looking for, and she took me right over to be helped out. I've never in my life applied for a loan, and still have a credit score of absolute-zero. He helped me thru the ropes.
Expectations? No chance. I've got no collateral, no real stable history (travel all the time) and independent contract work that provides no guaranteed income. I wasn't getting any hopes up.
Despite all that, he told me I still had a history of banking with them, and that there were only positive marks on the account. He'd call me back. That alone was an awesome turn of events.
The "maybe" did turn into a "no"... and, you know what, I understand. I'll be with Amplify for a long time still, and happily. It's the place to bank in Austin. -

I started banking with Amplify about 12 years ago back when they were IBM Employees Federal Credit Union. Through the years, I've financed two cars, had checking and savings accounts and CDs with them.
Service is always friendly, both on the phone and in person.
In addition to their own locations, you can do your Amplify banking at service centers in University Federal Credit Unions around town. -

While I appreciate that they have financed two cars of mine, and appreciate their Instant Deposit Online feature, their continued lack of communication and poor customer service (beyond basic functions) is now cause for complaint.
There have been multiple issues with the bank, but here are my top three complaints. I have resorted to this avenue as making internal complaints goes nowhere with this institution.
1. In February was told I was up-to-date on car payments, then received a letter March 1 stating I owed a random amount of money from September. March 1 letter coincided with a report to the credit bureau. Said car was totaled in April, I called to inform them the loan would be paid in full to which they said OK, but they went ahead and sent a collections bill that week for the Sept. amount anyway.
2. This is the typical response when I call: "Oh, great, yeah, everything is fine, don't worry you are taken care of." When it ends up that something does get screwed up even though I called, they expect me to have names and times, etc. to blame it on whoever said OK, rather than taking responsibility as an institution as a whole.
3. My IDO (instant deposit online) limit arbitrarily drops and is raised for no apparent reason from time to time. When I tried to make a deposit three days before Christmas, my limit was lower, so I called up there to see if they could raise it back as they have so many times before. I was then put on hold for thirty minutes, then a manager came on and said that they were temporarily suspending my privilege due to a couple of payments that came in the mail late. Over Easter and Thanksgiving weekend. I called over Thanksgiving and said I was worried and was told to "wait it out." Sure enough, my check has been lost in the mail. At the time of my service suspension, my paycheck was put on hold check and I was told I could not use the service for 3 months. Well for some kooky reason it was available the very next month.
Over and over, the left hand does not talk to the right at this bank.
The unique services they offer are not worth the cruddy customer service. -

I absolutely love Amplify FCU. I have never been a member of a credit union before, and they have made me so happy that I bid Bank of America adieu after 12 long years and I haven't looked back. Personal service, great perks (ATM fee refunds, what what!) and a revamped online banking system are just some of the reasons I love my bank! I plan to keep my account even after I move out of state.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my bank! The Round Rock and Pond Spring Rd locations ROCK!!! Super nice and very helpful.
The only negative is I have moved to Cedar Park and THEY SUCK! You would think its a totally different bank. People are rude and not helpful! Went today to ask about my check card and before I even finish my sentence she said she couldn't help me! After I asked if I could finish she said "Oh, yes I can check that for you." I go out of my way to not have to use this branch. Love my bank BUT the Cedar Park location SUCKS!!! -

I swapped from "Big Bank" to Amplify a while back, and I really love the service. Go see Brett at the downtown branch - that guy is hard working, patient with explanations, and willing to go the extra mile. A true professional - I cannot recommend anyone more highly.

AWFUL credit union -- do not turn your money over to them. I've had a series of bad experiences with them from the get-go.
First, they publish incorrect information on their web site regarding fees. I had to make several calls to get ATM refunds because of this.
Second, their online banking services are below par (as compared to the other three financial institutions I use). TH Bill Payer service is especially unreliable. I had several bills scheduled to pay, and luckily had printed the on-screen confirmations. The checks were never sent from Amplify, resulting in late fees applied by the payees. Again, I had to spend much of my valuable time getting Amplify to rectify the situation and refund the late fees.
Third, there are not many branches in Austin, so if you live West/Southwest/South, it is a long drive to get to any branch to do business in person.
Fourth and the worst of their aggrievances, they put holds on funds deposited as checks (even if under $10K). Again, I had to spend my valuable time (since I'm a consultant, my time is money) and had to speak to more than one representative to fight to get access to MY ow money!
The only redeeming quality of AFCU is their personnel are fairly courteous (if not always very knowledgeable).
Do yourself a favor and find a different financial institution - unless you want to spend a lot of time trying to get Amplify to fix their mistakes. -

I've been with Amplify since I moved to Austin, I joined when they were still IBM TEFCU. I've never had any problems, they are very friendly in the branch on Burnet Road, their Web site is easy to use and the fees and rates are good.

They have taken such good care of us and our money. They came highly recommended by good friends and we joined Amplify four months ago and could not be happier. Bernice and the rest of the Cedar Park crew will make you feel like family (the kind you can trust). We highly recommend Amplify CU. You won't be disappointed!
