Walking into Del Ponte's was like walking into my grandmother's house. It was clean, well kept, and smelled like great food. There were even a couple of religious paintings hanging on the wall near the kitchen. Grandma would have felt right at home.
While I waited for my slice, I watched one of the prep cooks remove the packaging from three balls of pure white mozzarella. I knew I was in for a good slice. The cheese had a smooth, milky taste--far better than most places nearby. The crust was remarkable for its consistency: it had a fine crumb and was cooked with a perfect evenness. Not bad for the neighborhood.
$2.25 per slice, if my memory serves me right.
