Review from Steve S.
Seattle, WA
I was working as a volunteer for Seattle International Film Festival this afternoon, and I dropped in to Amore Chocolates to hang a poster. Although they have very little space for posters (even for a worthy cause), they found a spot for it. They were wonderfully friendly.
But that wasn't all: they offered me a sample of their chocolate. It was delicious, and the texture was fantastic. I had a dark chocolate, but I'm not sure exactly what kind.
Seeing how pleased I was with the chocolate sample, they offered me another!
I didn't want to exploit their generosity, but when they suggested a salted caramel chocolate, I couldn't resist, because my wife has ordered salted caramel mochas on several recent visits to coffee shops, and I figured she'd appreciate a salted caramel chocolate candy. They also offered a mocha chocolate for her.
I brought the samples for my wife home, and although they were a little soft from the hot weather (yes, it does occasionally get warm in the Seattle area), she said they were delicious.
Next time I'm in old downtown Bellevue carrying cash, I'll make a point of buying something delicious. (I could have paid with a card this afternoon, but using a card seems kind of silly for a tasty little chocolate treat.) -

Chocolate! Adorable, tiny chocolate shop with friendly service and a FREE truffle every time you visit.
The earl grey and the margarita are my favorites. The caramels and the Mozart with marzipan are also really fabulous treats.
I will confess I have not been here since Cupcake Royale opened. I am tres sorry for that, Amore, because you too, are wonderful.
These chocolates are expertly crafted and really flavorful. This place really helps make Bellevue good and interesting, and for all you haters of Bellevue, please go to main street and check out all the good stuff there, starting with this place. -

While saddened how the espresso machine broke down and will not be replaced (space limitations), I'm Amore's biggest fan. This is more than a store for delicious chocolate - it's an anchor business and Good Neighbor badge for this community. The people who work here are the familial corner store I wish there were more of in the world.
Gift ideas and easy shipping are two big features of the store here too. -

Tiny shop, friendly service, interesting flavors, and a free sample. All in all a good visit.
Some of the more creative truffles I saw: Chinese five spice, balsamic, and an array of alcoholic flavors from standbys like cognac and rum to more unusual ones like beer.
Be prepared to pay, these chocolates are a luxury. -

The Pacific Northwest is a place that loves to indulge in luxuries like wine, craft beer, exotic cheese, gourmet coffee, etc. It comes to no surprise that this area has acquired a taste for fine artisinal chocolate. I've tried countless chocolate shops between Portland and Vancouver and Amore is without a doubt my favorite chocolate shop in the area.
Ironically, their shop is tiny (maybe 3 people can fit inside,) hidden, and humbly decorated relative to places like Fran's and Brugge, but their quality is consistently above and beyond the other places with huge marketing budgets. It's difficult to walk in and spend less than a hundred bucks on chocolate because their staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and happy to let you sample their latest creations. And although they do have a creative array of exotic truffles, I keep going back to the classic milk and dark chocolate varieties. As somebody who appreciates food as an art, I have a lot of respect for any artisan who can still blow me away with the most basic element of their craft without relying on gimmics or marketing pizzazz. -

I come to this place when I really want to give myself an extra special treat!!!
Walking in your enveloped by a blanket of warm chocolate smells emanating from behind the counter. At times if your lucky you can walk in and see the lovely ladies there bringing out a fresh batch or spreading fresh chocolate on their work station table..( I want to run my finger through it and eat it up...)
They carry a variety of chocolates- Dark, Milk, White in various flavors and have curious but delicious creations. Try the champagne truffle or the cognac one.. my favorite is the chocolate truffle and the almond joys! If you are a lover of chocolates there is nothing here you will not like!
The location is small but very welcoming. The ladies that work there are always ready and willing to answer any questions with warm smiles. Also they always have free samples out in case you want to try something. I always end up eating a sample plus what I buy, this place really sneaks up on your caloric intake sometimes.. But how can you deny yourself a free sample of delicious chocolate.
They also make a great hot chocolate and if your in for some heat in your already hot chocolate try their hot mama hot chocolate ( its spicy and yum)
Welcoming place, lots of chocolate.(YAY!).. if your in the neighborhood and want to satisfy your sweet tooth come here! -

When in downtown Bellevue or anywhere close, my car drive to Amore! I try something new each time, but go back the turtle or wheatbeer chocolate.
During the rainy season nothing brings a smile faster than Amore Chocolate.
Stop by, say hi, you won't be sorry. They are closed on Sunday, that gives you 6 days a week to visit Amore.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Let me tell you they have some DAMN good truffles here and they offer free samples!!!
Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum! Yum!
The chili lime has a subtle kick to it where as the red hot chili will leave a nice chocolate burn in the back of your throat. The dark chocolate champagne was smooth and decadent where as the chocolate malt reminded me of a gourmet whopper only 100 times better no make that 1,000 times better. Two of the more interesting to me were the Biersch which is made from Gordon Biersch beer, was a surprising delight and the Margarita made me want to grab some suntan lotion and go lay out on the beach for a while.
I'm sad this delicious chocolate shop is in Bellevue and not closer to be but on the other hand it's probably a good thing this place is not closer to me, if you're looking for chocolate delights stop in here and pick up a few you won't be disappointed.Listed in: Forget love -- I'd rather fall…

Holey Moley that's good Chocolate Brenda! I'm what you'd call a regular at Amore. I'm a regular guy who occasionally acts like a neanderthal. I actually like dark chocolate options the best... especially the more exotic choices (hanbanero, Guinness, malt, cardamom) as well as coconut truffles.
I hope you'll make a trip to get a sample next time you're in Bellevue,
That place across the street (Fran's) is second rate compared to Amore... one bite and you'll see what I mean.Listed in: Eastside places you should try, What's for lunch?

I bit, and I see what you mean.
Although I enjoyed my sample of milk chocolate covered almonds, I LOVED the new truffle mix she's concocting! She's so personable that I was included in the new creation process. That's customer service!
I'll be returning next week to purchase a few of the new items!
The shop is tiny, we had 7 but luckily it was a nice day. -

Brenda was quite nice to me, even when I made an open condescending comment about locating her shop in Bellevue rather than in civilization.
Nonetheless, she is in the only tolerable part of Bellevue.
I found Brenda's work to be quite refreshing. Her biersch chocolate was quite good and surprising. The ganache was well crafted, and very smooth and thick. I bought a half dozen others while I was there and have enjoyed them
The coffee caramel one was really tasty.
So, yeah, I'd say Mary went there on a bad day. I mean, I like Fran and her chocolate, but it is machine made while Brenda's is all hand made.
And they make great use of space. They must have had 20 kinds of chocolate in a 2 foot case! -

We had Ginza's for dinner and walked right behind to find this tiny chocolate shop for some sweets.
The place is super tiny but FILLED with extraordinary, specialty chocolates. You can choose a sample to try for free! The lady was super-duper nice and so friendly. Even after my sister told her she will go ahead and just buy the chocolates w/o trying a sample, the lady offered to not charge us for one of the 4 chocolates we picked out, just because the first one should be always free. =D
The chocolates were very special indeed, nothing like Godiva or any other somewhat luxury chocolate brands. (Trust me, I live for Chocolates.) After eating my Mocha Truffle chocolate, I felt like I just had a nice cup of Mocha for an aftermeal dessert! Some other amazing ones I had were Strawberry Chiffon Truffle and Mozart (Pistachio and Hazelnut)!
4 chocolates were $7.35 (before tax) so they are not cheap but DEFINITELY worth every penny! And as always in every business, friendly customer service makes a significant difference.
They also had some sale items too. I will definitely come back here for some more chocolates! -

Crap, i really shouldn't have gone here.. now I'll have to avoid going to main street.. temptation is irresistible!
one con, is they are a little on the pricier end.
They have interesting flavors and everything has a very smooth texture and flavor :) -

I want to echo what Jim B. says about Brenda and Amore. They have a friendly staff. Whether you are searching for traditional chocolates or some new, never-seen-anywhere combinations, they will have what you are looking for in confections. Amore is both adventurous and successful in their experimentation with interesting flavor combinations. They are both playful and romantic. My wife loves them.
Brenda is one of the nicest people on the Eastside, and makes one feel right at home. Sample some of her creations. They are very good! -

Fabulous and exotic flavors of chocolates. Friendly owner-operator. Pricy, but worth it. Good coffee, she often gives me free samples. They make the chocolates right in view, fun to watch.
[4-25-09] Another visit, same story. Starting with a free sample and a good Americano. Kudos to the "seriously dark" chocolate, the chili-lime, and the cardamom truffles. They even appear to remember that I've patronized the store! What's not to like? -

My most favorite is the TIGER BUTTER, but each chocolate that you put in your mouth is tasty because you can feel the love they put in while making it!

This shop is TINY! You could probably only fit ~3 people in the front area of the shop! They don't have that much variety of chocolates, but they did say that they had a party the night before and was cleaned out. They make all their chocolates in-house, which is pretty cool considering their space! The owner was super nice and gave me my first chocolate free since it was my first time there! I got the Guiness and the pineapple cream chocolate truffles. The pineapple one didn't taste pineapple-y enough to me. The Guiness one was better, but again tasted more like a dark chocolate ganache versus Guiness beer! There were two other people ahead of me whom got coffees, so their coffees must be good too! They weren't too horribly priced either, which is always a bonus! It's a very cute shop and I definitely love supporting the locals, but Theo is still my favorite chocolatier!

Wowie Zowie! That's love! The chocolates are amazing, and the service is superb. Brenda was so helpful, she helped me make some tough decisions on which ones to get for my wife.
Unfortunately, I loved the complex flavors of all the truffles more than she did! But the range of tastes they have to offer means that there is something for everyone. From the Chinese Five Spice Truffle to the Rice Crispy Carmel.
Next time it will be a box of the "simple" stuff for my wife, chocolate covered almonds, vanilla carmel, and mint butter cremes.
Thanks for producing such a great product and presenting it in a friendly neighborhood shop that is a perfect fit for Old Bellevue. -

I go to Amore on a daily basis for my coffee run. Brenda and the girls who work there know me and my coffees by name, and can tell the difference between a "Gene" mocha and an "Alan" one.
Every time I need a small gift for a friend of significant other, I get a 2 or 4 box of the chocolates, and they never fail to impress. -

OMG, wish this place was in Seattle. Chocolati could learn from them. A bit overpriced possibly but they had a huge selection of dairy free chocolates and were knowledgeable about them - they even mentioned something about soy/almond truffles?? WTFOMG!! They also give you a free chocolate when you come in. Too bad I probably won't go there anymore since it's out of my way :(

We used Amore chocolates for favors at our wedding and the guests loved them. They even dusted them to coordinate with our wedding colors! We stuck with some basic flavors for that event (champagne and port) but Amore has many other more exotic tastes. All of them that I've tried (many) were delicious.
Amore's truffles are larger than Fran's, less expensive, and I think they taste better. Oh Chocolate is also good, but Amore is my first choice for chocolate!
Friendly staff, too, all the times I've visited. -

Amore is the BEST!!! Brenda and all the gals down there at the tiny piece of heaven will treat you like royalty as they serve up the best treats you have ever had! Great for gifts and also to spoil yourself or a loved one. The coffee there is top notch as well. You will feel like family and your day will get a little brighter if you stop in this little shop of wonders. Thank you Amore!

despite the fact that this place is about the size of a closet, they still need up to 5 employees furiously handmaking their amazing chocolate creations. that's a good sign. they take their quality seriously and it shows. the ingredients they use are all top notch and you can taste the difference. prices are decent for the quality of the chocolates. the ladies that work there are all super nice. first timers get a free sample too. mmmm...

Yeah I gotta say Amore is absolutely wonderful chocolate. I have friends who have traveled the world and they agree. Fran's does not impress me. And I love talking to the chocolate artists about heir latest creations. To die for!

Amore is my go-to place for gifts when I want to impress out-of-towners. It is the "I'm celebrating," or the "I'm feeling blue," or the "I need a treat" favorite store. Before I tried Amore, Fran's was my fave, but after trying Amore, Fran's tastes a bit like crayons to me... Try a taste test for yourself. The two shops are across the street from each other. Buy a comparable chocolate from each shop and see if I'm not telling the truth.

We visited Amore for the first time yesterday, and I was very impressed with this tiny chocolate shop. We've been to Fran's several times, so decided to stop by this shop across the street for an additional chocolate hit. The flavors were innovative - a nice change from the standard carmels and fruits across the street. I was especially impressed by my chili lime free sample. Who knew chilies & lime & chocolate could be so tasty?
