I just adopted a love bug named Max Tango, Canine Private Eye. As it was a fairly quick decision (I just fell head over heels in love with the little guy) I was ill prepared to have a dog in my home.
I really like the guys at Amore because they helped me really think out the supplies I needed to make Max comfortable. He's a tiny little guy who hasn't been socialized around people and other animals, so he barks (out of fear) and pulls at his leash while we're on walks. Amore recommended a simple harness so I could control him without hurting his tiny dog neck - I had gone in thinking I needed a bark collar. They also measured him for a crate and recommended some really good organic treats that Max is crazy for.
Plus they had Kong balls and flyers at half the price PetCo and Pet Food Express (expensive, though I love them) were selling them for.
I really appreciated the patience they had with me and with Max (who was freaked out both times we were in the store - not wanting to either try getting into a crate or putting on a harness.) I will absolutely be back for the random supplies I know they have.
S'cuse me now - I have to go pet my dog.

No matter how much you change in life, there are always those moments or places that remind you of what you used to be, where you came from. This place does that for me. I only come in here to get my monthly supply of Feline Pine kitty litter but the experience always takes me back to middle school, when my best frenemy and I spent all our time trying to be caller 10 on KMEL 106.1FM and playing cassette singles over and over again to memorize the lyrics. I kind of love the guy who works there, with his flat-brim SF Giants cap and diamond horseshoe bling ring. We always talk about random stuff, like how it used to be a hair salon and that's why there's that trippy eighties mural of a woman with big hair on the far wall. And he always plays KMEL on the stereo system, maybe sneaks over to 94.9 once in awhile, but I never catch him.
Last time I was in there, we reminisced about the KMEL Summer Jam concert that we were both at in '92 when MC Hammer was trying to make a comeback and how people booed him even though he had balloons and fireworks on stage. It made me sad. But then Too Short or Tribe Called Quest or TLC - *someone* hella fresh - came on and it was all good again. These are four very personal stars, but I offer them for what they're worth. -

My cat (aka The Prettiest Kitty In The World- and please, do not attempt to argue this point with me, because you'll be wrong, and my resulting victory will just be embarrassing for both of us) has brought home some fleas as of late. In an attempt to snuff them out, I stopped by Amore on my way home today.
If there's one thing I hate, it's when people who don't know the answer to something bullshit like they do. In fact, there's something refreshing about the willingness to admit ignorance. Honesty is always welcome here.
I poked around a bit (my every move being followed by the counter dude), and finally picked up a package of Wellness Flea Wipes and bopped on over to the counter.
"How well do these work?" I asked the dude.
"They work," he said.
"Right," I said, "but how well? You know how some flea treatments are more effective than others... like, on the spectrum of flea collars to Advantage, where would these go?"
This is where I would have LOVED for the guy to be all, "Look bitch, I make minimum wage here and I don't know shit about what you're yammering about, so just buy the $10 wipes and if they don't work, come back and buy some Advantage."
Instead, I got this: "They work. Just follow the directions. That's why things aren't effective, because people don't follow the directions."
Wow, really? Maybe next time I should put the flea collar around my cat's neck instead of my own then, huh?
Update 7/31: THE WIPES DON'T WORK. -

I am leash training my cat. Why bother? You might be wondering. He's such a great guy, and I get so sad when I think about him never feeling breeze in his whiskers. So he's got a project.
I bought a "cat halter" and a retractable leash from Amore. The cat halter fits fine, and my cat, a generally patient individual, doesn't seem to mind it much. The retractable leash broke immediately. As soon as it came out of the box.
My husband went across town to give it back. The guy - who I later found out was the owner - was not nice to him. Granted, we had lost our receipt, but the thing was a total piece of crap, and was obviously from their store. I telephoned. He explained his policy was to do absolutely nothing. Apparently, not even apologize. He actually HUNG UP on me. -

I was so excited to find this place, it's around the corner from my house. When I walked in I asked the cashier/owner about dog carriers. He wasn't much help when it came to finding one. But we had a nice conversation about how small stores like his were really kind to their costumers because that is how they stay in business.
So I bought a bag, it was $60 btw, not cheap! And went home to try it out. Before I even got to the front door (not even a block away) the bag's strap broke. So I turned around and went right back. At this point I wasn't upset at the owner or the store. But when I told him what happened he said "to bad". Our return police is right here and pointed to the taped piece of paper on the counter. I then argued with him about how ridiculous this was that I just bought this 3 mins ago and he couldn't do anything about it, especially being the owner of the store!!! Well then he flip and started yelling at me, I just walked out and should have called the police. -

Weird hours.
I went here because its right next to the mission pet hospital. Maybe I'm a little spoiled but this place was the ghettoest pet store I've been too.
Compared to Hazel and Gerties or Jeffrey's, this place looked dirty and like it used to be an old toy store from the early 90's that got turned into a pet supply store.
They mostly carry all the industrial, big-box stuff and none of the smaller, greener brands.
The people working here were not helpful at all either. No hi or thank you. -

This place is alot like a pet convenience store since they dont have a lot of space. So they have everything you need, but they might not have exactly what you want. Also, this store is just for supplies. They dont sell anything living, including fish or lizard food.
But before you go marching up the hill to Petco (dont do it! dont do it!) consider the fact that while you're completing your pet-related errands you can ALSO get a haircut here. Thats right. This is a pet store/people salon all under one roof. Now wouldnt it be cute if you could get a haircut while your dog is getting groomed in the chair next to you? I dont think they do pets though. -

dude behind counter was stand-offish at first, but I appreciate that. Working in the retail industry I prefer to be acknowledged and given space when shopping. When we did need help he was on it. Helped us find exactly what we came for and more. We have a really teeny tiny dog and have been looking everywhere for tiny doggy tennis balls for our girl.....well, found 'em!! They weren't even for cats, but for teacup dog breeds!! I didn't even know they made 'em.
AWESOME!!!!! They guy ended up being the owner/manager and said he specifically tries to order hard to find things, well that's cool. Gotta love it!! -

I like this place because they carry organic items that you do not find at the bigger pet stores.
The price here are comparable to the bigger places, the stuff here is not overpriced.
The decor in this straight up- nothing fancy. But really why do I need a super fancy pet supply store? I am going there to buy treats my dog will consume in under a minute, do I really need a fancy place. -
Review from Jeremy S.
Not the fanciest store in the world, but they have all the basics plus some fun stuff like dried pig snouts (ewwww!). I bought my high quality pinch collar here and more recently, a handsome leather collar ($14) and a Kong Flyer ($14) as well. The guy who works the register is nice and has a dog of his own too (think he said it was a pit).

You would think that they would be open during their posted hours. So much for my trying to be good to the environment and not driving to another pet supply store for a 40lb bag of kitty litter

A small space that I used to ride by all the time and never noticed until I got a cat and had to find a pet store in the neighborhood. Jeffrey's and Best in Show are closer but I had a hard time stomaching $20 for a cat toy that they admitted would only last a couple of weeks before all the feathers were chewed off. Luckily I managed to find Amore Animal Supply. They have all the basics, nothing fancy. But I did find my cat toy - fleece string on a stick with feathers - that my cat adores. Yes, the feathers only last a month at the most but at least it's only $5 so I don't feel too bad about buying a new one every couple of months. And I don't think Hera minds either.

Thanks Yelp! I would not have found this unassuming shop without the help of this here site. My dog was in need of flea medicine and Amore Animal Supply is not too far from my neighborhood. They carry Frontline which is the most effective flea medicine on the market. A plus is that a fenced park is just down the street as well. Thumbs up for dog friendly neighborhoods.

All I know about this place is that I was hoping to find live feeder mice and they didn't have any. From looking at the outside I guess they didn't but I thought I'd give it a chance. FAIL

Like all the other reviewers mentioned, the store is pretty tiny. Nonetheless, they carry a top-notch, if small, selection of organic and free-range dog food. We got our little doggie some Wellness dog food. At $17 for 6 lbs., it wan't cheap....but it has carrots, sweet potato, blueberries, hormone-free/antibiotic-free lamb and a multitude of other wholesome ingredients. Our dog likes it WAY more than any other food she's ever gotten (besides human food), so 5 stars for Amore for making my baby chubby!

They have a reasonable supply of dog foods, but prices are expensive and hours arbitrary.

I love this place, I had recently gotten a cat and needed to buy some cat litter, I didnt really know what worked so I asked the guy at the counter, I didnt think he would be much help just because he didnt seem to be friendly but he actually knew what he was talking about, he said he gets alot of feedback from customers about what works and what doesnt. He even gave me some free samples of some new cat food. Needless to say I will be returning for my future purchases. Another great thing about this place is that its family owned.
