Portland, OR
Amnesia has become one of our local and favorite breweries. Yummlicious IPA and a mighty friendly staff. We have yet to take the dogs, but pretty cool that they encourage a dog friendly joint.
We really enjoy our time at this establishment, great prices and even better happy hour prices.
This will be one brewery we will be happy to show off to our visiting fam and friends.Listed in: Stumptown Stuff

Me and my buddy were out brewery hopping, and had just checked out Hopworks and Rock Bottom, and wanted to try Amnesia for a change of pace.
This place looks like one of those converted warehouses turned into a tasting room. They had a BBQ grill outside which wasn't cooking on a Monday night.
As soon as we sat down, the bartender approached us and asked what we wanted. I tried starting some brief conversation, to warm up and find out what the best options for the beer were. His response was terse, short, and barely informative. My buddy asked what style of beer the winter seasonal was and bartender's response was "it has no style. all of our beers are unique" as he abruptly walked away. I had no idea why this guy was being a dick. When he got back we just ordered the sampler and all of the seasonals. It was 8.50 plus 1.50 for each of the extra four -- much more expensive than hopworks (10 + 2 from cask for 8 or so).
The beer itself was not to my tastes. I couldn't tell if it was odd pairing of the three base ingredients (hops, yeast, malt) or if they got fancy with secondary additives. I tasted off flavors in their beer, although I'm guessing it probably wasn't from uncleanliness or brewing methods, but their brewing style. I prefer that the real flavors of the beer are accentuated, which these beers do not do.
One of their IPAs was good, the rest were subpar. We pounded and left. Trust me, if you want quality beer for a much better price and a good food menu go to HUB. You just won't get the old warehouse feel but you will get some of the best beer I've had as well as a quality menu and a classy atmosphere. -

So this is really more like a 4 star review but I'm going with 5 for the simple fact this place deserves an extra one to offset the dingbat parents giving 1 star to a brewery that won't let them drag their kids along when they want to drink booze, child in tow.
Yes, sir. You are correct. There are a few other (perhaps lesser) breweries in town that welcome your offspring. Go there. I'm sure they're more than happy to let you down a couple pints while you ignore your spawn running around the establishment screaming and knocking things over. I guarantee you are the only one who's happy you get to have your loin monkeys at a bar.
On another, less child-centric note. The beer (especially the Copacetic) is well above average if you enjoy strong but generally well balanced beers. The menu is really simple but covers meat eaters and veggies alike. The staff is perhaps a little indifferent at times but I've never had rude service and sometimes had really great service. The bathrooms are clean, there are lots of covered tables outside which serve well to meet new people. The mix of people seems to be pretty good too. From the most hipstery of hipsters to studying college students to an after work office crowd to Dude-bros with some serious tans. I've never had anything but great experiences here with the other patrons.
Best of all this is an ADULT SAFE SPACE. There are no kids allowed so you don't have feel like you need to watch your language, move tables to smoke or listen to the cries of bored youngins who have to sit and watch pops knocking a few back. -

Excellent IPAs, very nice beer sampler, large selection of good beers. Funky, fun & artistic atmosphere, lots of seating inside & out, great for larger groups. Good food, nice service. I'd come back.

I would really like to give Amnesia 4 stars, but I can't justify giving a place 4 stars that is lacking in good food. The sausage is pretty good, but there just aren't many options. The beer is fantastic though and the bartenders are pretty great. The Copacetic IPA is great. I love that you can get a pint of gold fish crackers as well. This is a great neighborhood brewery and the outdoor seating during the summer is top notch.

This place is awesome. Great beer. Cheap. Very no frills. Picnic table seating inside. Kind of like an old garage turned into a beer tasting room/bar. I love the outside grilling area where they'll just grill you up a burger or veggie bratwurst.

The patio was covered with adorable dogs. The bartender was nice enough. I just wasn't particularly enthused with the beer. IPA was good, everything else just wasn't special. Extra star for no children.

Cool brewery in Mississippi. The staff has been friendly and the beers have been good. One of our favorites is the Impale. I have yet to try the food, but the menu does look appetizing. It's got a great location and you will be sure to me there!

Guess I am missing the super duper charm of this place, or maybe it's just that in comparison with a lot of other places I get to go and sit outside to enjoy a drink with friends, it's no better and maybe not even as good.
The selection of beer seemed reasonable but certainly not anything overwhelmingly amazing. They also serve wine and have a partial bar.
They certainly keep the food selection to a bare minimum - Brats, brat on a bun, veggie brat on a bun, and a ham and cheese sandwich, each served with chips.
They have a good amount of outdoor picnic tables, and lots of people bring their well behaved dogs and pups.
They also allow smoking throughout the patio, which was a negative for me because the nice old men directly next to us were chain smokers and not just cigarettes, but they liked their stogies too.
I'd go back if someone said, "hey, I really want to go to Amnesia", but there are so many other places to choose from on a wonderful Portland sunny day that I don't think I'll ever be suggesting it as a go to destination. -
Review from Jae K.
This is going to be a controversial review. It seemed like a really cool/laid back place.
No minors are allowed to even sit at the table unlike HUB, Deschutes, Widmer, and most others in Portland. Well... not so laid back, huh?
It's more like a cheap/outdoor bar with plastic chairs and plywood table tops. :-) Think again if you have kids to tag along and want to have a cold one. Even if I don't tag any minor along, I probably won't go there again. -
Review from Andrew C.
First return visit in three years last night. About the same as I remember it. Good on them for maintaining some consistency. I dig the IPAs... they have three. Dopacetic is 8% and extremely hopped, Copacetic is 5.8 and well hopped. Desolation probably had the best flavor of the three and, wouldn't you know it, after three of them I forgot the %.
Bummer for the vegans and veggies, you only get one option. Then again, as a meat eater I really only get one option as well. Who's not going to order the hot beir brat? See what I mean?Listed in: North Portland

Review from Ted C.
Was on the search for a good brewery with outdoor seating. We found Amnesia. We didn't sit outside. Why?
Great outdoor seating, but smokers abound. We don't smoke so we crawled indoors. Luckily, the inside space had huge roll up garage style doors to let the warmth and sun inside. Felt like sitting outside almost...
However, we made the mistake of sitting near the bathrooms at first and didn't stay long as the odor would fell an ogre. Luckily outside in their outdoor seating area was a smokey brat cook fest going on, so it helped wipe the memories of the latrine away as the fatty seasoned aromas wafted in.
Inside, there was a cool folksy retro vibe swirling around. The combination of 30's folk music playing over the sound system at the time, the concrete floor, beam exposed barn style ceiling, and deer trophy on the wall made me feel like I was at a dusty road side tavern in the same time period.
Beers are brewed on site and are solid offerings. I had an ESB which was strong and complete. Good beer! I'll be back but not go out of my way to get back. More of a summer/good weather beer destination.Listed in: Beer T-Shirt Contest!

I've been here several times and I'm always wary because of the smokers outside and the limited menu. But I've always had a good beer and the sausages with sauerkraut are fantastic. Good place to go with a medium-sized group late at night in the summer.

Oh how I wish we had anything close to this in Boston! We stumbled across this haven as we were waiting to meet a friend for dinner, and decided to stop in. The bartender was friendly, and cheerfully helped us choose a beer based on what we tended to like. He was dead on!
The self seating at the picnic tables and outdoor kitchen lent itself to a great casual vibe. There were several dogs and several smokers, so the outdoor seating might not be for everyone, but the pub features big roll-away garage doors, so sitting inside is nearly as nice.
We did not have any food, but there beer alone was fantastic enough that I would definitely recommend a visit! -

Didnt spend a ton of time here today, but really liked the dog-friendly vibe of Amnesia Brewing. Sat down and right away chatted with a couple with their American Bulldog, Bisjou. Dogs add so much love to a public environment...I'm not even lying...
My wife and our friend had the cider (both enjoyed it) and I had their ESB and thought it was great. We didn't eat, so no review there.
Loved the neighborhood environment at Amnesia....can't wait to visit again..... -

Amnesia is the place to be in the summer months. The large porch is open to man and dog alike, and the doors roll up on the brewery to create an awesome open-air atmosphere.
Food is fresh grilled out on the porch, with options for vegetarians and vegans. Amnesia's beer is good, not great, but the cool staff and patrons more than make up for it. -

I wish I had a dog. I would bring it here. In fact, I would bring your dog here. Every dog I have seen here looks super happy and relaxed. And they don't even drink the beer. I think that is just the vibe. Very relaxed.
And the beer, delicious! Copacetic is one of my fave IPA's in town. I even love how it looks. But usually it's not in front of me long enough to stare at it. Desolation is great too. Most trips to Mississippi involve something like this:
*Smells the aroma of brats cooking*.
"I think we need to stop at Amnesia for a beer"
Admire relaxed looking dog in the common area outside.
Order Copacetic or Desolation IPA, sometimes sample a brat.
More often than not make a new friend at the long common tables.
Again admire relaxed looking dog on the way out.
Leave happy and loving Portland and how lucky we are to have places like this.
Rinse, lather, repeat. -

This place is great for a sunny summer day. Dog friendly. Tons of outdoor seating. There is a giant grill serving up yummy sausages and sauerkraut. They have a really really amazing pale ale. Not average. Really light flavor. My personal favorite is the Desolation IPA. Super smooth.
This place can get packed really fast but service always seems to keep up with the crowd. I like to sit at the tables outside and chit chat with other beer drinkers. Everyone there is always super friendly and I consistently have had a wonderful time here. -

My first bar in Portland: wonderfully familiar!
$3.25 for an amazing local brew. How much better can it get than that?
I don't know if it's just because I'm used to good beer being $5+ in NY or what, but I was blown away by the quality beer.
A good local place, very chill vibe with nice people. An outdoor beer garden makes it a great place to go on nice warm days. -

"Keep it simple " is a great motto, and I really appreciate a place that does a hand full of things very well vs. a smorgasbord of mediocre. The place is casual, and has the gritty out door punk rock dive bar kind of charm, which I love. As long as the cigarette smoke is kept at bay, the patio is a great chill spot.

Portland, OR
The beer is good but not fantastic and they are really brought down by the poor food options (and taste).
I was also not impressed by the price and the selection of beers is hit or miss, sometimes they only have a meager offering that leaves me wanting something more interesting that what I can get on a grocery store shelf. -

The Copasetic IPA was one of the better beers I have EVER had. Add in the cool atmosphere, easy 5!

Great local brewer. All of the beers they make are fantastic. Definitely recommend the Copacetic. They have picnic table seating inside and out. There are flat screen tvs inside to watch the big game (if you are into that). You should definitely try some of the great grilled-to-order burgers and sausages they have available.

This was a fun place. We had to drink some beer considering we were in Portland. My bf really wanted to come here after reading the yelp reviews. It's a brewery, so it really smells like a brewery. You do get used to it after a bit. There are several picnic tables inside and out on the covered patio. I love the corner location, which is great for people watching. We tried a local brew. I'm not a beer drinker, but my bf likes a good beer. He did say it really was a good beer. We didn't order the food and we were happy we didn't. I appeared that the barkeeper was also the BBQ chef. As she ran from behind the bar to the BBQ outside and back again she never washed her hands as she handled the door, the food and everything else behind the bar without gloves. Despite that, everyone who did order burgers seemed to really enjoy them.

We were here when they were swamped with Pedalpalooza and they still managed to stay on top of orders, and we eventually found a place to sit, too. Very good beer. Not a lot in the way of ambiance or service, but like I said, very good beer.

Review from Abby H.
My first experience here was on a rainy Saturday afternoon, so I didnt get the amazing patio experience. Too bad, since I could tell that with the two garage doors open, this would be an amazing hang on a looooong sunny afternoon.
We opted for a table inside by the bar, under the mounted deer head... replete with fangs and a dress tie. LOVE IT! All hail the devil deer!!!
What makes this place so outstanding is it's simplicity. The craft beer has great flavor and is very reasonably priced. They also serve wine, Cider, and hard liquor, the latter being a pleasant surprise. Brats and Burgers make up the food menu. We passed on the brats, but the burgers were tasty and filling. The dill pickle spears are firm and crunchy (I like my pickles).
I love the vibe of this place, very caz. If it was in my neighborhood, I would be here several times a week.
I rate Amnesia SuperFAB!! -

I lived right next to Amnesia when I first moved to Portland. It has great outdoor seating and is super dog friendly. The hours are a little weird. Loved the beer selection. The food was just ok for me. I gave them three stars because despite the fact I lived right next door I never felt drawn to visit more than a couple times. This is coming from a beer enthusiast. Something kept me from buying completely in to their business model.

The way life should be - no, not Maine... Amnesia Brewing. Laid back, dog friendly, and friendly people. Watch the sunset with friends across long picnic tables, smoke coming off the grill in the back, and incredible Amnesia beers. Clean, crisp flavors, and won't break the bank!

My favorite Portland microbrew. The Copacetic IPA is about as good as it gets. Enjoy a pint (or three) while your there and then take home an $8 mason jar (or three) home with you.

Perhaps my favorite watering hole in Porltand (or anywhere).
The beers here are blanced and consistently amazing.
Food is only Burgers/Dogs, but there is a vegetarian version of each.
The staff and clientele are relaxed and friendly.
Outdoor area is a blast in nice weather.
Whenever I travel, I miss this place and its beer. -

Didn't try any food but the grill outside smelled good..

Portland, OR
I've been to this establishment a few times now over the years. And everytime after I leave I wonder why I came back. I will admit the patio is very inviting when you are walking down the street on a sunny day and thirsty for beer. However, the beer is not very good. The cloudiness of the unfiltered style beer can be unsetteling, but the flavor of the beer is not good. The two IPAs taste too similar, and the golden was just plain boring. The food consists of a polish sausage on a bun or a burger, veggi versons are available also. But don't bother with these, just ask for the free cup of goldfish crackers from the bar.
The worst part about this place is the agonizingly slow moving line to order from. There was only one bartender during happy hour!! He was taking each individual beer order and then going and filling that order one at a time!! The line was out the door just to get a beer. It felt like a damn beer fest: Get your beer and then get back in line for the next one because you will have ample time to finish your beer before you get up to order another.
The only redemable thing about this place is again the patio. It is dog friendly and it's fun to sit out and watch the people go by. But then you realize that you have to drink this sub-par beer and are eating goldfish crackers!! I guess it is worth checking out, but I don't plan on going back! -

Review from Don B.
Amnesia has one of the most bad-ass porches in all of Portland. The perfect summertime place to grab an amazing brew made on-site and to indulge in a fresh grill-cooked brat, tofu-brat, or burger.
The space is a brewery/warehouse with large roll-open doors, and a big fenced-in, partially covered patio littered with picnic tables. It's like backyard-bbq meets picnic meets camping meets damn good beer. While it's definitely not the kind of place I would tend to find myself during the winter months, on sunny days I hear the patio calling to me from as far away as across town.
There were many-a-day in law school when I should have been studying but instead found myself sitting at a picnic table at Amnesia drinking a Copacetic and ignoring the law books next to me. All winter long I wait for the days when it will be warm enough for me to cop a squat outside and get all warm and fuzzy with some solid micros.
The constant wafting smell from the grill takes it that one step further. The food is not anything extremely special. Any one of us with an average amount of grilling prowess and quality ingredients could cook this food, but honestly, when you're sitting at a picnic table in the sun with 100 of your closest friendly strangers, what could be a more perfect meal than a hot, freshly grilled brat? It's not about gourmet, it's about good.
I missed the Yelp get-together here but I have spent many, many hours on this porch and I have nothing bad to say. It's a WYSIWYG situation, with only a few employees. Don't be in a hurry. Grab a spot in the sun, close your eyes, feel the breeze, take in a long, good waft of the hoppy brew you're about to imbibe, and enjoy.Listed in: Greater than 5 stars, Beer Me!, I Yelp Oregon Beer
