Review from Jackie F.
Okay, so this is late. Very late, but better late than never right???
This time Amithyst herself made my hair pretty. I had scored a free haircut at the Slice of Broadway Elite event (well, threatened to beat up Kevin T. for it more like it) and I was more than pleased when I was done.
Amithyst is an artist when it comes to hair! And she's just freakin adorable to boot!!! I've "shopped" around at other stylists and so far, no one has made me feel more comfortable in their chair than Amithyst does.
So now, I think I might have finally found my permanent salon home, and good thing too cause now I'm in desparate need for a haircut and a freakin color!!!
Now I just wished I lived in Sacramento, but even so, this is a haircur worth the drive from Elk Grove! =)Listed in: Body Beautiful

Amithyst is amazing, talented, awesome.... She is the best. I went to her a few weeks ago for the first time and she gave me a beautiful haircut. I can't wait to see her next month for a haircut and dye job.
BONUS: Amithyst Boutique salon is chic and very cute. -

I will be filling a formal complaint with the BB and cosmetology board. This shop owner has continued to stalk me via Facebook and my cell phone. Your response and use of inappropriate language to customer complaints shows your true colors as a "business owner".
While I appreciate the owner's new "nice" comment to my review (I'm sure as a response to the complaint that was filed with Yelp), here is the original comment so you can make your own informed decision:
"This client has used Facebook several times to communicate with me regarding hair appointments. Just because I was sick the day after eating dinner at Shady Lady doesn't mean anything, it IS a restaurant, after all. Very presumptuous to point the finger. So, long dragged out story short, if you want to go to a salon that is current with technology (which means we keep up with current styles and education) then this is the salon for you! If you're a snobby, uptight biatch, then follow Samantha's reviews and see where she goes next! PS- I hardly consider apologizing via text and facebook as harassment and stalking! I feel sorry for the next salon this client enters.... beware!!! Delusions ahead!" - Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 9/14/20111 Previous Review: Show all »

Amithyst Boutique Salon, especially Karli are the bomb dot com. I started coming to see Karli back in December after an AWFUL haircut at another salon. She was able to work with what she had to fix the problem and has now made sure I have the cutest haircut on the block. I never thought I would be able to have short hair since my hair is crazy thick, curly and frizzy, but I am sporting an awesome a-line right now.
Karli is fantastic, and I trust her to do whatever she wants with my hair. She will tell you if you have a crazy style idea that she knows would look bad, and really cares about making you happy as can be.
The salon is adorable, and it is great to go to a place where you know you are going to walk out every time feeling amazing. And don't even get me started on the head massages...a little slice of heaven!
If you are looking for a new place to go, check out Amithyst Boutique and Karli, you won't regret it.Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 9/14/2011

Well, this better bring me some yelp karma points because I didn't want to review Amithyst so she wouldn't get too busy for my sexy ass ;)
She's an artist to say the least. Yes, I mean it. I have moved so much and always felt that I needed to recite an explanation for my natural wavy hair. It's either been chopped off or when long no one knew how to layer it so I don't look like a mop.
Until....AMITHYST entered my life (I'm not a lesbian but I love this chica). She knew how to make my curls come out and didn't chop them off. Plus it's the first time I've had bangs since I was 5 and I love it and have gotten so many compliments on the street. I feel sexy each time I walk out and it really is like hanging out with your girls while you are getting a cut. Plus if you are lucky and go in on the right day she has homemade cookies to die for.
The bonus, since I'm a working mom of 2 I really don't have three hours to spend on my hair (let alone shower each day, but that's another story) and Amithyst gave me tips for my lifestyle and it works even outside the salon. Ladies, we all know we look smokin' hot for 48 hours after our cut but then what, right?Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 9/29/2011

Hey Sacramento men; I've got a great grooming tip for you. If you want a terrific hair cut by someone who knows what they are doing, then you need to see Lindsey at Amithyst Salon. I just moved here from Arizona where I had been seeing the same stylist for 17 years - yes I am loyal, but at the same time I'm a picky SOB about how my hair looks. I read reviews for hair stylists on yelp for days (at least 6 hours worth of reading!) and I ended up picking Lindsey at Amithyst.
All I can say is that all previous reviews were understated. If Lindsey ever leaves, I'll follow her to the ends of the earth - she's that talented a stylist. As far as I am concerned she is the best I've ever encountered. And the bonus for us guys is that Amithyst has done a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere where men are made to feel welcome and comfortable - there is always a Red Stripe in the refrigerator when I arrive. Honestly, you've got to give Lindsey a try, she's as talented as she is lovely. I know you'll like her work and enjoy your time with her.
UPDATE: Lindsey has moved to Paisley's on K Street -

What can I say here that hasn't been said before?
I went to Amithyst seven weeks ago for a cut and color. She gave me subtle highlights throughout my hair and made the base closer to my natural color. The result? My highlights have grown out INCREDIBLY well. Usually after seven weeks I'm dying to have my hair redone--but I'm still so happy with the way it's looking.
There's a reason that my best friend has been a loyal client to Amithyst for nine years and still drives all the way from San Francisco to get her hair done. And from now on--I'll be joining her.
In a sea of substandard stylists and salons--Amithyst is truly a gem!Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 9/29/2011

I have been putting off getting a haircut for months since I moved to Sac, and I am so glad I picked Amithyst Salon. Whitney cut my hair and did an amazing job. She was able to give me the most adorable a line bob that I can wear straight and curly. After having many bad experiences with people cutting my curly hair .. I was so happy to meet Whitney. I highly recommend this salon!

Look, I'm a guy. I don't do the salon thing often. Instead I play video games and eat beef jerky and give high fives.
That being said, I can now guiltlessly admit that I like salons... specifically Amithyst's place. It's everything I would want from a hair experience -- a cute modern little place above a bike shop in the bustling midtown across from a creperie. Also, Amithyst provides wine + homemade cake pops. Seriously.
On top of all that, she (Amithyst) gave me a great cut. She even helped me hide the fact that I have a flat back of my head. I was obviously grateful enough to swallow my pride and admit this fact to the masses. Everything was finished off with a very addicting shampoo and scalp massage. I left feeling like a new man, ready to venture out into the world in search of my next great beef jerky adventure. -

I'm taking a hiatus from my Yelp fast to give major kudos to Amithyst. I've been seeing her for a year or so, after lusting after the great work she's done with Modcloth and other high-profile gigs and bonding over sweat sessions at the gym. I've never walked out with anything less than a fabulous haircut, and I so appreciate the bang trims, as I'm guilty of always waiting far too long in between cuts. (She never scolds me, even though I probably deserve it.) The drink service and perpetually full candy bowl also always make me want to stay past my welcome.
Last weekend I saw her for a pre-wedding styling. (Left to my own devices I always choke under pressure.) Not only did she give up a scheduled day off to accommodate me, I was in and out in around 30 minutes and I can honestly say it was the best hairstyle I've ever sported. I enjoyed tons of compliments at the event and I can honestly say I don't know anyone else who could have pulled it off for me as well as she did. As long as she'll have me, I'll probably never attend a big event without her again!Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 9/30/2011

Amithyst is amazing!! That also speaks for all of her friendly staff!! I feel at home every time I go there and pretty much can't wait to sit and chat with the girls when I do. Especially to get a friendly greeting from Sadie who visits the salon from time to time! I missed her this last time though! (Her jack russell)
I've been a solid dedicated customer of Amithyst's for over (geeze I believe almost 4 or 5 years now!)
Crazy to think that I can trust someone so long with my hair! But I couldn't ask for a better hairstylist!
Amithyst never misses a beat and is fully dedicated to her clients in making sure she delivers every time! I'd go here any day over a fake salon who really can't consider you a friend, which is what I consider Amithyst after all these years!
You can't beat all the sour candy, chocolates, champagne, wine or beer every time either!!
Also can't forget she has an awesome booking system now that emails you and texts you, your appointment time!! No more forgetting about your hair appointment (but I never do!)1 Previous Review: Show all »

You know how you look for years and years for the perfect haircut? You think you find one, but then you realize there's still something missing. After years and years of expensive, mediocre haircuts, my search is finally over.
I got my haircut by Linsey, and she was amazing! I knew exactly how I wanted my hair cut, I just couldn't put it into words, but Linsey just had this sense of what would look good on me, and the joy I get from seeing my hair, which is very thick and difficult to deal with, turn out exactly the way I wanted, is incredible. And what makes me really happy is that I don't have to keep shopping around. After years of looking, I've finally found the perfect stylist:)
I live in SF, but I still go up to Sacramento to get my hair cut by her. I strongly recommend it. -

Just had corrective color done with Linsey and I am very happy with the result. If you know anything about color you know what a pain it is to lift black dye. I had been to someone else that didn't really know what they were doing and I ended up hating it and wasting my money. I am now a med-light brown and about 3-4 inches shorter and I love the cut too! The salon itself is small but cozy and very cute, not like all the cold feeling industrial salons with no character. All the stylists were very nice. I will definitly be coming back and already have an appointment booked for next month and am recommending my friends!

I got my tresses colored and cut by the lovely Karli. I took advantage of the free hair cut with purchase of color (for first time customers only). Boy am I glad that I got hooked up with her! She did such a good job on the color and cut. MY hair was in pretty bad shape and she made it look hit and stylish again. She got what I was going for a turned my semi-coherent hair talk into a chic look.
I really like the vibe of the salon. It is cozy and modern. The other stylists are laid back and you can tell they have a lot of fun with their work. I served a glass of champagne with the color process and one before the cut. I love sipping champagne while being pampered!
I really look forward to having Karli play with my hair in the future!Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 2/15/2011

I called Amithyst Salon last minute yesterday to book my first hair appointment. I had my hair done by Linsey. She did an amazing job!!! My hair was SO damaged and unsightly from previously coloring it by myself. She threw on a demi-permanent color which took away the nasty orangey reddish tones, and gave me the CUTEST cut!
Something I really appreciated was the fact that Linsey stayed way later than she was planning on staying to give me the "Complimentary haircut with the purchase of a color service" So I didn't have to come back the following week and purchase the color service separately. That definitely shows me that Linsey is a genuinely good person who loves what she does. I'm so glad I finally found a stylist who I can trust to help make me look and feel beautiful! Thank you so much Linsey!!!! See you in 6 weeks :)Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 4/12/2011

Last year I was looking for a new stylist after moving away from my old one and found Amithyst through her salon's great yelp reviews. For me, my perfect stylist is one who knows what I need and want more than I do.... and Amithyst is just that.
I've been to her 3 times and I wont ever go to anyone else... I always leave extremely happy. This last visit I came in with some HORRIBLE at home "touch-ups" (I had a wedding to go to and I needed a quick-fix) I had huge orange streaks... Amithyst was, rightfully, horrified and made it so that it looked like it never happened.
Amithyst is super fast in doing a full highlight, I get no "sore neck" syndrome, the environment/vibe is great and so is the conversation! The salon is super cute and the complimentary drinks make you feel pampered and special. The prices are also good, especially for the qulaity of work they do there and for how knowledgable they are, they really do know their hair. Anyone who says that these positive reviews are just the salon workers writing fake reviews is full of it... everyone i've ever seen at the salon goes home looking super cute and with a giant smile on their face! -

Based on the reviews on Yelp, i decided to give them a try. Booked an appointment a week before and the night before at almost 10PM, karli cancelled the appointment. The next day she texted (when she said that she will call to reschedule) to reschedule the appointment. When i agreed with the proposed time, she then said her schedule for the week is full. This place deserve less than 1 star for customer service.
edit: i just saw the respond from Amithyst today and i realized that she always takes reviews personally. customers have their own say and it is based on the total experience, not just your cutting skill. if you dont want a bad review on your page, then treat them better. -

Whoa. Really, seriously, whoa. Sacramento has a serious bumload of salons, but Amithyst Boutique Salon really takes the (awesome) cake. And especially Linsey!
I've found the usual issues with Sacto salons is that they're trying to be way cooler/artsy/pretentious/interesting than they actually are. Amithyst is leaps and bounds above these things by somehow managing to be totally awesome, at everything, all the time. Though it's a smaller space than most salons, the vibe is totally welcoming and awesome. And this is coming from someone who is normally claustrophobic and cannot stand stuffy places. So the space - awesome. All the people are wildly kind, interesting, sincere, thoughtful and fun. So the personal environment - incredible. Ability to get an appointment? Linsey is super super flexible, and also totally up with times technologically. Facebook appointment making? Whoa, sure. Email confirmations? Pretty rad. A better time opens up so you text me to see if I'd like it? So great.
And then my haircut and color? Psh, get outta here. I had tried to get another stylist at another salon to cut my hair pretty short into a bob, but because it was so long at the time she was nervous I wouldn't like a short 'do right away, and ended up giving me a shoulder length cut. Kinda a bummer. Talking to Linsey, she got that I was ready for a short 'do, and wasn't afraid to do it either. I had left the pictures I had printed out at home, but she let me use her iPad she has at her station to look up the photos to check out. (Is that not already just totally awesome?) The cut was fantastic, an adorable modified pixie, and because my color was looking a little blah, we spruced that up too. So I went from a kinda bland shoulder length brownish blah, into a totally rad pixie wearing blondie. And those are some of the reasons why Linsey and Amithyst take the awesome cake. -

After being stuck at the same salon year after year and despite of a lot of bad haircuts, I didn't have the guts to branch out.
Its hard to find someone that knows exactly what you want or has the gift to determine what will make you fabulous by the looks of your face and hair.
My search ended yesterday when I went to Amithyst and found the wonderful Lisney. It was my first time at the Salon and with Lisney as well. The Salon was so cute and everything I imaged it to be from the previous reviews.
Everyone was really friendly and very personable. I felt very comfortable and relaxed right away.
I can't say enough great things about Linsey. My hair was a mess and she not only managed to fix the problem, she gave me the exact cut I wanted. I love my pixie. She's got magic figures and knows how to use um. I am a big fan now and she will be my go to gal. Thanks Linsey:) I will see you soon. -

Edit 2/16/11: I wanted to respond to Amithyst's comments about my initial review. She did offer my a refund but the hair cut was complementary already (and 4-5 months ago) so it would be silly for me to get a refund.
The idea that my hair could have been fixed with proper styling and products. Yes, after the hair cut I did have to wake up early and curl my hair and use lots more products than normal so it did not poof and would look somewhat presentable.
I am not sure what she is taking about with salon jumping. I was with my last stylist for a number of years until I moved to Sacramento. I do understand about building a relationship with your stylist but you need to have confidence in the initial assessment of your hair. I did not get that impression so decided not to go back.
The salon is obviously well liked and many people have had positive experiences. Unfortunately, that was not the case for my self. My review is based on my experience and will stand as it it.
Original Review 1/ 14/11:
I originally decided to come here based on the reviews from yelp and the fact the salon was running a yelp promo (free hair cut with color service).
It is hard to write a bad review when you think the person doing your hair was cool, but I hang out with my friends when I want cool. In a stylist I look for an understanding of my hair type and the style I am going for. That did not really happen with my experience.
I experiment all the time with my hair but was not impressed with the cut given to me by Amithyst. The haircut poofs at the widest part of my face, and the bangs are uneven (not in a good way) and I can only wear them parted on one side of my face. The only directions I gave were I did not want a mom hair cut and I wanted to be able to part my hair from both sides. I did end up with a mom hair cut, I say this because my mom asked me if I had gone to her stylist (a la super-cuts).
I had to make a trip back to SF to have my old stylist fix my hair. He said the hair was not blended properly at the ends which is why the poof was happening (he even showed me how it was suppose to blend).
The color was pretty good. Not exactly what I wanted but something that could we easily fixed as the stylist gets to know what you mean when you describe a certain color. If I had only had to color service I might have come back. I guess I got what I "paid" for with the hair cut.
On a side note they kept making fun of a poor oblivious guy across the street, yelling out the window at him (not sure if he was aware). It made me feel sad for him.
I guess I am still on my quest to find a Sac stylist. -

Have I mentioned how much I love Amithyst (and Karli)?
Well I do. Having come from Chicago (where we found the perfect stylist, Twisted Scissors - see my review) we were guided by Yelp to Amithyst. I've only worked with Karli and can testify to her expertise with the scissors and willingness and ability to creatively deal with unusual hair.
I also like talking to Karli. The whole salon is cool. Why give your money to boring stylists when you can give it to really awesome people?
Their dog Sadie is very cute, too. -
Review from Jenna B.
Who could not give Amithyst five big stars?
I've worked with her for a number of years on creative projects, and she has personally cut/colored my hair. On my drive home the other night I was just thinking "that really was the best cut I ever had in my life."
Amithyst was at another salon when she used to cut and color my hair, but her brilliance shines through all that she does. I have worked with her as a photographer, utilizing her skills as a talented stylist... but her creativity does not stop at creative control during a photo shoot.
I sat in her chair and gave her creative reign over my hair and what I received was a gorgeous color service, courtesy, patience, and a cut tailored to my bone structure which I was complimented on endlessly.
I am very sensitive to how people treat my hair, deeply offended when my requests are not regarded. I feel like when I see a new stylist I may as well be arming a criminal with a gun to my head, rather than scissors to my hair. We all know there is no good comeback to a crappy haircut/style or a terrible dye job or hair treatment!
I have not been to Amithyst Salon personally to have my hair done, but I have been to Amithyst as a stylist and she was brilliant then. There's no doubt she is worth every penny! Her salon is beautiful, quaint, and comfortable. She prides herself in delivering top notch service, and though I have not been to any of her other stylists, I can say this: I'm sure she selects only the best. I would choose no one else with my hair when I get the chance, and neither should you! :) -

Fair Oaks, CA
A quick update on this review- I recently got a "compliment" from the owner (almost 5 months later) asking me to remove my review because TJ no longer works at the salon. This review stands because my negative experience went beyond the stylist who cut my hair.
---------
I should update this review to reflect that the owner did contact me and offer me a refund shortly after this review was posted, which shows a really positive concern with the image of the Boutique and a concern for good service. I refused the refund because I did receive the service and it is fair to pay for that. I'm a little concerned that several weeks late I now have a negative comment to this review from the owner discounting my experience. I don't think sitting in a side room shows that a customer is "alienating themselves." By the way, this place is so small the "side room" is the only place to be unless you want to be "reach out an touch strangers" close. You can cross the entire salon in about 10 steps.
I'm sticking by my review that I've had better salon experiences and won't be returning, but I am sure Amythist will continue to be positive for many people (ala many other reviewers).
OK- I saw this place on the "Hot Deals on Yelp" promo, read the reviews, and thought "hey, sounds good, I'll try it."
Not good. I called, and they were all out of the promo. OK, that's fine, but then when trying to schedule an appointment it was an ordeal. I had to confirm that i could make it there by 5:30 about 4 times, because apparently this was late.
So I was sure to give myself plenty of time to get there and even checked in when i got there early. I then caught a bite and came back just a few minutes early.
Well, apparently it wasn't that important that i get there early because i had to wait over 30 minutes past the time my appointment was scheduled before even getting started...not happy. I know things happen, but you can at least check in and say "hey just a few more minutes." Instead i couldn't even catch an eye and i was totally ignored.
Then the stylist didn't check in and ended up cutting my hair shorter that i asked for.
The salon was cute and tidy, but i don't think i will be recommending it to anyone. I was disappointed. -

After meaning to come here for a long time I called the other night in a panic. I decided to go for the dreaded box color and the result was extremely disappointing. I'm talking two tone... light ginger blond with the roots and the rest light brownish... Gross! I have learned my lesson. You get what you pay for...
I got a call the next day from Linsey. She said she had a cancellation and could fit me in the day after. Score!!! I am so happy I finally went in.
Linsey is adorable and sweet. She looked over my hair and we devised a plan to make it better. I sat in her chair for almost 3 hours. I got bleached and colored and cut and it was exactly what I had wanted in the first place. My hair looks and feels better than it ever has. After 5 years as a brunette I felt like this summer was time to literally return to my blonde roots and she got me there. Scalp massage and champagne too?! I haven't been this relaxed in way too long.
The cut is superb as well. Cute bangs and layers. I feel sexy like Bridget Bardot.
The salon itself is adorable. Everyone made me feel at home and I cannot wait to go back to see Linsey in a few months. -

Jen D. has been my stylist for over 5 years and I've followed her to her new station at Amithyst Salon. I have curly hair and once I find a hair stylist that I can trust, I become their most loyal customer. Every time I visit her, I leave happy knowing that my hair looks great!
I recently made a drastic change from long hair (half-way down my back) to short (above my shoulders) and was nervous about having short hair again after so many years, but Jen gave me the most amazing short curly hair cut I've ever had. Jen is a talented professional and also a very sincere and kind person, I feel privileged to have found a stylist that I can trust and also consider a friend.
Her new space at Amithyst is cozy and friendly. Jen D. works various daytime and evening hours throughout the week/end so making an appt. is easy, if your schedule is flexible (even when you have to get in last minute). -

I found this salon on yelp, and had an amazing first experience with Karli.
She gave me exactly what I wanted and I left with an amazing blowout. So many salons these days don't give you a proper blowout (hastily drying the hair and straightening it to death doesn't count).
I scheduled a second appointment with Amithyst for a cut and color. I had a vague idea of what I wanted, and she basically summed up the two different looks I wanted into one of the best color experiences I've ever had! It's growing out beautifully and my color still looks amazing.
As for people saying that they're not welcoming, the moment I walked in I felt welcomed. I was smiled at and offered champagne, the decor is very modern and clean and chic, and I love the products they use. I'll actually be buying them at my next visit, which I hardly do at the salons I go to.
As for people saying the dog is annoying, Sadie is incredibly well behaved. No barking or jumping or whining occurred. She just sat by the window and was adorable.
They are also really helpful when it comes to showing how to style your new haircut, what products to use, and when to come in for a free bang trim.
Cheers! -

Karli cut my hair today and did an awesome job. She did exactly what I asked her to, instead of cutting off too much like some stylists do. She gave me tips on how to get the hair to style like she was styling it, which is nice because I don't have much skill in that area.
I really like the end result. It looks so much better than what I went in with.
The location is really cute. It doesn't seem like it'd be a salon upon first glance at the building, but that adds to the coziness. It's a really small shop, but again it's nothing short of cozy.
I rarely see a stylist more than once because I haven't found someone I've really been happy with (and I move around a lot). I would definitely go back to this salon though. -

So very glad I decided to try this place!
I can't say enough good things about Karli. I normally feel really awkward around stylists since I'm not particularly....stylish. And my hair is usually on the scruffy side by the time I get around to actually getting it done. But there was nothing snobby or judgmental about Karli- she was completely friendly and sweet, and so easy to talk to. I've had other stylists try to pressure me to cut off a bunch of my hair, but she only cut what I asked her to. I felt completely comfortable and taken care of in her chair, and like she really understood the texture of my hair and the way I like it to look. I even bought some product, which I don't normally do, but the Moroccan hair oil was so hydrating and smelled yummy. AND I even scheduled another appointment! One of the first stylists I've actually been interested in seeing again!
And as an aside, those little robes they put their clients in are much cuter than the smocks I'm used to. And the lighting was gentle. It's nice to feel pretty when you have to stare at yourself in the mirror for an hour.Listed in: Pretty Time

It's so hard changing stylists, but with the help of Yelp I found a few places to visit, Amithyst Boutique Salon being the first on the list.
I have to say it just keeps getting better and better and yesterday was my third time seeing Amithyst.
On my very first appointment back in August, Amithyst suggested adding some lighter pieces to my black hair. She also suggested cutting actual bangs. I've always had a few piecey like bangs up front as I have fine/thin hair and never had a stylist just own up and cut 'em short! Loved it!
I like that she doesn't use a flat iron as I use & abuse my hair with that at home. I walk out every time swinging my bouncy, shiny hair!
Add a glass of champagne with strawberries or white wine and needless to say, I never tried any of the other places on my list.
See you next month Amithyst!Comment from Amithyst B. of Amithyst Boutique Salon 12/9/2010

It has been a really long time since I have gotten my hair done. Frankly, I've been too broke, too busy and too scared to look for a stylist. I did a little yelp stalking as any bright person should do when looking for a business to trust. I skimmed through talk threads and reviews and decided on giving Amithyst a try.
I told Amithyst my whole hair story how I used to be blizonnnd and had been gradually going more and more close to my natural color. I told her I wanted a color boost and a *gasp* short hairstyle. I have ALWAYS had long hair, so the thought of chopping it off was exhilarating and terrifying at the same time.
I really must say she made me feel amazing the entire time I was there AND gave me an awesome cut and color. I have been getting constant compliments on my new doo and will undoubtedly be back.... She's a master!
Full disclosure: I got a discount for mentioning her website. Check out the offer on her yelp page and website. First time clients receive a free cut with color or 20% off of their first cut. (this is a current offer as of 8/24) -

I've been looking for a new hairstylist since mine has been out on personal leave for a couple months and I have a feeling she may retire (I've gone to her since I was 4!), so after doing a little research I decided to try Amythist boutique since the reviews are great and also first-timers get a discount!
I described to Karli how I usually manage/style my hair and pretty much what I was looking for in a haircut. I was open to a suggestion she had about how to make the haircut look more natural and she was right, I like the adjustment she made. I got the hair cut I wanted at a decent price and by a stylist who made me comfortable by telling me what she was doing before she did it, gave me tips on how to control my hair which usually does what it wants to do, and also gave me the most amazing scalp massage as she was washing my hair! Great experience! -

Amithyst has done it again!
The bf and I had back-to-back appointments a few days ago--yes she does great men's cuts too! While we were talking about how short to cut the front of my hair, I mentioned that I always think I want shorter bangs, but then get frustrated when I'm unable to get my hair out of my face. We both agreed that we usually hate our haircuts for the first three weeks after getting them.
Not so with my new cut from Amithyst! I loved it as soon as she was done and in the days since it's only gotten better. Quite a feat! I'll be back many, many times I'm sure :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

I've always said.....I don't care about hair. I've always said....what's the big deal about hair. Okay, the truth. I always said these things....to others. To myself I always though....I really wish I could find a hairstyle. You see, my hair was somewhat long and all one length, YES I said it ALL ONE LENGTH! I hated it and frankly, I was sure it hated me. A lot of my girlfriend go to Amithyst and they ALL look amazing.
So I took a chance and made an appointment with Amithyst. She immediately put me at ease and was interested in getting to know me. As we talked and laughed my case of nerves disappeared and the time flew by. Before I knew it I was done. After I saw the results I was giddy as a schoolgirl and posing like a diva because I couldn't believe what I saw in the mirror. She worked her magic, and yes, it is magic and I feel beautiful.
The only drawback to having Amithyst do your hair? You'll want to go out and buy all those hair gadgets and accessories you NEVER had any use for before. Oh and figuring out all the new ways you can style it! -

I decided to go to Amithyst based on the great yelp reviews. I had high expectations going into the salon, and I was not let down.
I called Amithyst on a Saturday morning to see if I could make a same day appointment. There was no one in the salon that was available, but Karli was able to come into the salon that day just for me!
Amithyst is kind of hidden from the street- it's above a bicycle shop. The salon is very small, and only has three stations. When I first entered, I was offered champagne and strawberries, which was a great start to a great hair experience!
Karli did wonders with my hair, and talked me through the whole process of what she was doing. I got highlights and a trim, and she did a much better job than other higher price salons have done in the past. I mentioned the discount on the website and the total price for cut and color was $100.
I think that the best part of Amithyst is that the hair-washing sink doesn't hurt your neck! -

I went yesterday to Amithyst and JUST LIKE I EXPECTD a GREAT job!! I love how she did my hair! It was BACK to how I needed it!! She also does the best shampoo jobs!! She massages my head and it feels SO good! I love the atmosphere and she always offers a variety of yummy beverages. Amithyst has been doing my hair for around 3+ years and I won't go to another person! Definately check her out!! xo
