Such a hidden gem. I've never seen it all that busy. I ordered the fish curry with tilapia (they also offer it with salmon). The waiter suggested tilapia, so I went for it. It was great! The fish was tender and flaky as tilapia should be. It tasted fresh, not fishy at all.

    Family owned.

    Amazing, and fast service.

Hearty portions of both wine and food. Although, I must say their red wine is too warm and kinda gross.

I really like this place, but it feels a little like a fast food joint. Fluorescent lighting, not romantic at all and I read reviews that their togo option is less than stellar.

So as a final note, eat in, not romantically and tell the waiter the amount of spice you would like. I ordered mine between medium and hot, a "7 of 10" on the spicy scale and it was great and very spicy. I don't even want to know what an 8 or 9 would be like!

As it stands Amisha is the closest and most convenient Indian restaurant to where I live. I was always hesitant to pay this place a visit because it always seems to be empty of guests (even on weekends).

However, I'm really glad that a sudden craving for Indian food led me here. While eating in an empty restaurant tends to put a damper on the mood, I must say that overall their food is pretty good. It certainly helps that the purveyors of the cuisine here are friendly and attentive.

There's definitely better tasting Indian options within the city, but those options are rarely as accessible and hassle-free as this Sunset district gem. The naan is very good and the curries are served hot and are flavorful. My favorite part is that the food can get very spicy upon request (Getting a Mango Lassi for heat relief is a recommended option!). This place is also very reasonably priced as you can get pretty much any item on the menu for under $10.

If you're in the Sunset looking for some reasonably priced Indian food, Amisha is a good option.

I live a few blocks down the street from this place, so I frequent it quite a bit. And honestly I never had a dish I didn't like! Great flavor, fresh and not greasy, and everything is home made right there on the spot..

The family who runs it is darling, with such great customer service. If you are ever in the 19th ave. area, this is definitely a great place to check out for a well priced meal!

    Two thumbs up!

I had the cauliflower with potatoes and it was absolutely exquisite.  I also had the eggplant purée with onions and the spices were quite powerful (in a delicious way that is). The portions were wonderful and the food was so incredibly good I devoured it in 10 minutes...guess I was hungry....so flavorful and not too heavy.

What a cute little place and lovely owners - turns out this place is named after their daughter!!!
Now, let me tell you about my first time experience there:
1 star for cleanliness and a homey atmosphere
2nd star: quick service. We went with a fairly large group and placed a large order didn't expect to be served that fast!
3rd star: our large order came exactly as we ordered, nothing was missed or messed up - I would give extra points for that!!!
4th star: the food is rather good! I tried few types of naans and loved all of them! My favorites were garlic and a naan stuffed with meat :). We ordered family style, so I got to try a little bit of a few dishes - honestly, I have no idea what they were, but they tasted good!
    5th star - prices are reasonable: $10 - $13 per entree.
    Try it ;)

I'm afraid I have to agree with the negative reviews, even the badly written one nearby....The owners are very nice and friendly, the chai tea was good, and the garlic naan was OK, but needed more garlic. I was very disappointed in the food. I ordered Sag paneer and chicken tikka masala, and they WERE sour tasting , tasted almost identical, and had zero aromatic flavor, period. Indian food is supposed to be redolent of fresh aromatics, and these were devoid of any flavor, as if any spices they did use were 20 years old...I ordered medium hot, and again, zero hotness  as well. I really wanted it to be good , but it was the worst Indian food I've had in SF....so sad for such nice people....And it was a bit pricey....

    Went to Amisha last night.

The man who served us was so pleasant and helpful.  He was so friendly and pampered my three year old like she was a queen, which is so great considering that many places have that underlying look of worry when you enter with a three year old.

The food was delish, and had a lighter texture and more fresh flavor than many of the other Indian places I've tried.  The Garlic naan was lovely.  We were practically fighting over the last piece.

And the prices were a little less expensive than many tother Indian spots I've been to as well.

The only thing I think would make the experience a five would be a little more decoration.  It's clean.  A few tapestries or a wall mural would make the place feel more intimate and atmosphoric.

We will definitely be back.  Thanks for the great experience!

This restaurant is family owned and operated. The restaurant makes authentic indian food. I have eaten here 12+ times in the past year and have to say I have yet to be disappointed. I must say that the Tikka Masala, garlic naan, saag panir, mango lassi, and kheer pudding are must haves.

It's quite nice to know the food is tasty, cheap, and is helping support a wonderful family.

We ordered hot, it didn't even taste like it had any spices. I'll have to give it another try just because it's conveniently on Asian Street :)

My BF and I ordered from here two nights in a row, so that tells you how good our first experience was.

On the first night we ordered...

    -Aloo Gobi (5 stars-delish!),
-Shrimp Tandoori (5 stars for the actual shrimp but it came with raw onion on the side; maybe this is standard but I would have preferred if they were cooked so minus one star = 4 stars).
-Samosas (3 stars- were a bit doughy for my taste)
-Garlic Naan (5 stars- no complaints)

Night two we had leftovers but not enough for a full meal for both of us so we wanted to get another dish to supplement what we already had.  We got more naan, rice, etc., and then decided on the channa masala which we've enjoyed from other places.  However, it ended up being SOOOOOO salty, I felt like I was eating seawater.  And it really ruined the rest of the meal.  So, 1 star for night two.

Maybe I'll give this place another try someday- the salty channa masala may have been a fluke.  Maybe someone knocked the salt shaker into the pot by accident.  Who knows.

Called in an ordered to be picked up.  Never been here before but was dying for indian food and this is the closest to my outer sunset adobe.

I ordered the chicken curry ($7.95) with an order of naan bread ($1.50) plus tax.  I thought that was pretty cheap.  The curry portion was big.  And they give you two naan breads per order.  So this is also my first chicken curry and I don't know if I like it.  It tasted more like chicken soup, very runny not thick at all.  I actually was in the mood for chicken tikka masala but thought I would try something new and be adventurous.  Well, the tikka masala would have been more adventurous compared to my chicken soup.  At least, it was chicken pieces instead of chicken cubes (those are always scary to me, you know damn well that chicken meat doesn't come in cubes.... so its it really chicken?)

This restaurant at 8:30 on a monday night was pretty empty but I think they do a lot of take outs.  Well, I think for chicken soup, its pretty good, but I definitely didn't feel like I got what I ordered which was chicken curry.  Though the service is good, very attentive and nice people who run this place.  I feel bad they're not doing better.  There are way too many restaurants in sf for you to be a bad and still survive.

I'll have to try the tikka masala to really determine if I like this place or not.

Decided to give this place another shot, as I was in the area and nothing else was looking appealing.  Wish i didn't.  I got chicken korma and the curry was watery and flavorless...absolutely nothing like korma I have had anywhere else. I felt ripped off.  If you live in the Sunset, by all means, go to Golden Gate or Curry Village.

At first glance, you will notice that this place is often empty. You might think that the prices are too high or perhaps the food is no good. But you couldn't be more wrong. I have been a regular here for almost a year now and I absolutely love this place. However, despite my love for this place, I have only eaten inside here twice. The only reason for that is because I live really close to here so it's much easier to order to go and enjoy eating the good food while watching my favorite shows on TV.

Now as for the food, there are numerous good options to choose from, but I will give you the 2 that are must try entrees: Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. These 2 dishes are done so phenomenally well that you will find yourself craving more of it by the time you finish your rice or naan. Their other entrees are great choices too (although I'm personally not a huge fan of the Chicken Saag), so you can't really go wrong with anything on their menu. If you do decide to eat there or wait for your food, they have complimentary Chai Tea for your drinking pleasure.

What really separates this place from the rest is the remarkable service. It is a family run restaurant and when you enter here, they treat you like a member of their family. Every time I walk by here, even when I'm not going in to eat, I am greeted with huge smiles and some friendly waves. We'll even have some good conversations from time to time just chatting about whatever comes to mine.

If in the Sunset area, there is no better choice than Amishas. From great food to outstanding service, this place has everything you'd want from a yummy Indian cuisine!!!

We ordered for delivery around 3:45 pm and the delivery service was really speedy (~10 minutes). Probably because it wasn't a peak meal time. We got chicken tikka masala and saag paneer -- and both were really disappointing, and we decided never to eat here again.

The chicken tikka masala was not as thick as other places, and also smelled like it was made from lemon juice and ketchup. It did not taste like tikka masala at all. Maybe they got our order wrong...but it didn't taste like any Indian food I've ever had. My boyfriend thought it smelled like tomato soup.

The saag paneer was better than the tikka masala, but not by much. It also did not taste like any saag paneer I've ever had. Also, there were pieces of a green that were practically inedible -- I could not chew them and had to take them out of my mouth.

Maybe their other dishes are better, or maybe we caught them at a bad time, but tikka masala and saag paneer are our go-to Indian dishes, so based on this experience, we'll try elsewhere next time.

    DO NOT ORDER FROM AMISHA!
After ordering a chicken dish from Amisha on Friday, the next day I became severely ill and was diagnosed with Salmonella food poisoning. Amisha was the only food besides a granola bar that I ate before getting sick.

I tried to contact Amisha to tell them about what had happened and they just denied up and down that it wasn't possible and didn't even apologize. I will be filing a report with the SF Health Department against them.

    A surpisingly tasty visit!

Early yesterday I was already plotting an Indian dinner feast. I was just trying to figure out exactly where and what was close to home.

Gladly we all have yelp now. So I looked up Indian restaurants in the outer sunset. Amisha was the first to pop up. I was puzzled that I never spotted this place due to the fact I travel up and down Irving everyday.

I checked out the menu, the prices were amazing so were the reviews.
My belly had to see for itself. I walked into this place with my other half, it was empty. That usually doesn't scare me off. I actually enjoy quiet dinners. The server was exceptionally polite, also very attentive.

I tried a few of their Indian beers, Taj Majal a lil sweet with a crisp touch, Nice. I forgot the name of the other one but it was also good. I ordered the lamb curry which was VERY tasty. I asked for it medium spicy but I felt no spice at all, it was extremely mild. Next time I will ask for very hot! The half chicken tandoori was amazing! Tender, juicy, savory, mouth watering..... just plain irresistable. I tore every single piece of flesh off the bone! =P

Garlic naan, couldn't do any better. Overall I had a delightful delicious experience here. I was having a bad day too but enjoyed the place very much. It made my night a little better.

I'd give it 5 stars but I need to come here a  few more times before I throw it that rating. I told my fellow foody/yelper about it afterwards, he also felt that this place should be packed due to it's tastiness. He was surprised it was empty most of his visits.

Anyway, this is my new outer sunset Indian feast stomping ground!

I am a big curry fan. I come from North East London where there is a huge amount of Indian food  (I've also spent two months in India).

So, I have had two meals from Amisha.

Both times the sauces were thin and watery. The flavours were ok the first time but the second time the meal was foul.

Rather than just write a bad review I thought it would be fair to call them and ask what happened (chef's night off?).

They were so rude and unapologetic I was shocked. But yes, I gathered that there was 'someone else helping out' in the kitchen.

I won't be ordering from there again.

My search for the good curry delivery in San Francisco continues.

Having moved to San Francisco from New York, i have missed exceptional Indian food.  Tonight we ordered from a local eatery (Amisha) and are so thrilled with how delicious it is, that i am writing this while we are still eating.  Okra: "amazing" (the table's agreed adjective).
The Tandoori chicken is tender, yet spicy and replete with that inimitable Tandoori dry taste.  "Best tandoori ever" (timmy).
Delicious Yum.  local, inexpensive, and authentic.  Try it.

I like Amisha.  A has taken me here twice on weekends and it's never ever been busy.  We're either the only ones in the restaurant or there's one other table occupied.  The owners' daughter is usually hanging around somewhere and they're all super duper friendly.

I like the food because it's real flavorful and the portions are just right.  The prices aren't crazy high and they're really good with refilling the water.  While the dishes aren't extremely spicy, there's still enough hotness in them to make me drink a LOT of water.  I SO cannot take the spicy!

I haven't had any issues with the food the two times I've gone and I'd be more than happy to make more visits in the future when I have a hankering for some Indian food.

Were you a fly on the wall during our meal (takeout), you would have heard: "Whoa that's not a lot of chicken in this (Chicken Tikka Masala)" "10 bucks for a small pint of curry, better be good" "So unsatisfying." "blech"

I also ordered a kheer and eagerly anticipated the cardamon, almond and pistachio flavors in the rice pudding to remind me of India. There was neither a speckle of cardamon nor dustings of almond or pistachio. I nearly cried.

We REALLY wanted to like this place. I have to echo the lamb curry tasted like it had 4 limes squeezed in it and the chicken curry was dry...both sauces watery.

Sorry, Amisha, we won't be back for a 2nd try.

We gave them another visit. My daughter doesn't like spicy, so the waitress (the owner's wife) suggested the Tikka Masala. Both the food and service was excellent. We might not go there for dinner, but definitely for their naan. So far, no one can beat theirs! Try Aloo naan (potato).

well... I should take back my words, since I found a much better place (Ambriosa Indian Cafe in Monterey, Cannery Row). Plus, Amisha's naan some how has changed, they're making the naan too soft. It used to be soft and cripsy. what happened?

So as my first ever restaurant review on Yelp, I chose Amisha because I was appalled at seeing a mere 3 stars for this place!

As new Sunset-ers, my girlfriend and I were exploring our neighborhood one day and came across this lovely little restaurant.

It was around dinner time so we were surprised upon entry seeing less than the expected crowd on a weekday. We took it as a good sign. Being the type who goes with what I know, I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and cheese Naan. I've only had Naan 'n Curry before and damn does this place make them look like the McDonald's of Indian food. Seriously. The Chicken Tikka Masala was wonderful. The portions were perfect, everything was hot and ready within 10 minutes and the price is more than reasonable for a nice little mom 'n pop restaurant like this. Plus, they are super nice, neat, cool people.

    Overall, frackin' amazing.

Was in the  mood for Indian but didn't want to go out, so we called Amisha for delivery. They were a few minutes late, but we were hungry and the food sounded good.

Wish it was. The chicken tikka masala had a sauce that was reminiscent of buffalo wing sauce. Really odd, but not good. The lamb saag was bland, samosas were really doughy, and the raita did not have a good flavor. The naan was the saving grace, but that's not saying much.

They deliver, which is a plus, but if they deliver not very good food, charge a lot, and take a while, well, go elsewhere. Won't be calling again.

Much thanks to the nice owner man who kept his restaurant open to accommodate the Outside Lands crowd.

This small family owned restaurant is a gem. I have eaten there over 2 dozen times, and each time the food has been great. I have been to other Indian restaurants in the area and all of them fail in comparison. More times then not, the owner's daughter, Amisha, hence the name, is in the restaurant to greet you as you come in. Definitely a great meal if you like Indian food.

Giving up cheese for Lent has been a difficult thing.  On the plus side, I haven't cheated since the first weekend when I literally completely forgot about my Lenten observance before wolfing down a spinach-and-cheese piroshki.  I've been cheese (and guilt) free ever since, but this has seriously crimped my weekend-tradition style of ordering a pizza from a new pizza place and Yelping it.

So I've learned that there are other kinds of delivery besides pizza and Italian food.  Limited other kinds, but other kinds nonetheless.

I ordered from Amisha last weekend, and the food was good.  I have no idea where this restaurant is or what it looks like; my review is strictly based on the taste and delivery efficiency.

The food came quickly, which was good because I was starving.  The servings were a good size, but the spiciness of both dishes was uneven.  I don't mind spicy Indian food, but the top of the container shouldn't be significantly less spicy than the bottom.  This was the case, though, so I was stuck with not enough naan to sop up the burning spices in my mouth.

The naan was good, and honestly, I think this place could be four stars if I could get over the spiciness switcheroo this place pulled.  In fact, I'm going to specifically order from here to attempt to give the place four stars.

Inexpensive, no frills Indian. Really, really good Indian, that is. The decor is a little off putting, but you can get over it, settle into a booth, and order up some of the dishes we tasted tonight:

    Lamb Saag
    Vegetable Biryani
    Chicken Tikka Masala
    Tandoori (Chicken)
Bread Basket (assorted Naan) x 2

You can order everything mild, medium or hot. And I really prefer this place over a couple of the Indian places I've tried on Geary. The meats were all nicely done and not overcooked at all. And the dishes weren't overly salty, especially if you consider that they were meant to be eaten with the naan, which are on the blander side (even the flavored ones).

The bill came out to about $85 for six people...not bad. They also have a buffet lunch at $7.95 per person. And free delivery with minimum order of $15.00 (I am so keeping this menu for the stormy days ahead).

I was a little thrown off by the Asian wait staff, but she was cool. I think it makes sense since this restaurant is located on a strip of Irving that is really "Little Chinatown." She can attract those Chinese speaking customers who are looking for a culinary adventure. But really, she knew her stuff - we used her expertise to navigate the menu, because we were no experts ourselves.

Bottom line: Good Indian in the Sunset for a reasonable price with free delivery and lunch buffet to boot. Can't go wrong if you're in the neighborhood.

My roommate and I have ordered from here several times this last year.  More I think frequently in the last month or so.

I had come home from a trip and of course, had nothing to eat in my apartment.  I was sorta craving some Indian, so I rang up these folks.

I placed my order and unpacked while I waited for my food to arrive.  It arrived a little later than I was told over the phone, but that's cool, I wasn't starving and it's also Saturday night.  Previously they've always arrived way before, so I wasn't butt hurt about it.  Anyway, the food arrived and I thought it was a bit much, but didn't think too much about it.

I unpacked my order and sadly, I received another customer's order.  I was like "Oh man, 3 orders of rice??"  I rang up the place and told them only 2 items from my order arrived and the rest was incorrect.  The guy was super cool on the phone and said he would send the driver back over to sort it out and apologized for the order.

The driver came out who was an nice guy and totally apologized.  I packed up the incorrect items and he asked if it was ok it was going to take about 25 minutes round trip to get my order back to me.  I said it was ok and I was cool with it. Really, yeah I know folks get upset when their order is incorrect and that it's going to take longer to get it right, but hey, it's a Saturday night and most places are busy.  Thankfully too, I don't live far from the place.

Twenty minutes later, the drive arrived with my full order (extra naan and samosas) correctly.  Sadly I had the other folks order tag in my bag, but oh well.

The guy at the resturant had called too to make sure my food arrived and apologized again for the error.  he also mentioned that he knows that we order frequently from their place and that he'd give us some extra food or something next time we ordered.  Either that, or just that he gave me a full order meaning I got extra naan and samosas.  Seriously, very nice seeing as how they could have just brought me what was missing.

ANYWAY, I was happy the food came.  I think next time I'll order the curry spicy.  I think it needs a bit more of a kick.  Only other suggestion is to thicken up the sauce a bit.  Last time I ordered, I was thinking the tandoori was something in a sauce ... I'm kinda dumb.  I wasn't exactly wanted, but man, it was some good freakin' chicken.  Great flavor.

Reliable, friendly place.  Garlic naan is pretty rockin'.  Kudos to them for making the effort in getting my order correct and being nice about it.  Quick delivery and easy to order.

Looking forward to getting some other chicken dishes ... now I'm off for another serving of garlic naan ... yum!

My bf was craving indian food last night...it's not really my cup of tea, but I thought I'd be a good girlfriend and eat what he wanted.

I hopped on yelp and found Amisha close to our house...we checked out the online menu and ordered:

    Lamb Biryani
    Chicken Tikka Kawab
    Lamb Saag
    Lamb Vandalu & some naan

I'm not too familiar with indian food so I just tasted a bit of everything, I liked dipping my naan in the different sauces to taste...

I let my bf rate the restaurant for me, 4 stars for the food he took 1 star off for the price because when he lived in the mission he could get the same amount of food for about $10 less!

Food = good.  It was well seasoned, not too greasy and just good.
    Service = friendly.
Prices = moderate for the quantity and quality.
    Decor = American diner-esque.

Unfortunately, I'm just not that impressed with the place.  I'll eat here if I can't find something else in this area....but I know of much better Indian joints.

Wow yelpers, shame on you.  Seriously.  WOw.

The best part was that it was cheap.

The worst part was that it didn't stay in me for the hour.

Despite all the food in the toilet, I still had this nagging feeling that there was poison inside me for the next few days.

I took a big group of friends here when I realized it was the cheapest Indian buffet in SF, but I felt so bad and ended up apologizing to most of them.  In our group of 8, only 1 person thought the food was good.  That means only 12.5% of people will like Amish Indian Cuisine.

Over 20 minutes late, arrived just as I was dialing the restaurant to find out what was going on. The meat was very good quality and cooked well, but the few vegetables had been included were cooked almost beyond recognition.  My Irish grandmother would have been proud of the sogginess & lack of flavor.  Entrees were stupidly greasy and the bread was soggy...saddest pratha I've ever seen.  The chicken karahi was over 1/3 oil (I drained and measured it) and they screwed up a quarter of my order (which I didn't find out until I had opened the bag).

Never again.  Grease, slow delivery, and bad food...do yourself a favor and order elsewhere.  Nearly ties with worst Indian food I've ever had...even worse than the horribly misnamed "Tasty Curry" on 9th Ave.

    Expensive, small dishes, and yuck.

Service was good; a chinese lady served us.  My mom asked her what was good, she said the shrimp was not worth getting, and suggested the combination something kebab.

We waited pretty long for our food..when it finally came.......

the kebabs suckkkkkkkkked.  All the meats were dry as freak.  My mom said, "whats this? cha siu?" [cha siu is chinese bbq pork] the lady said, "no its chicken"  my mom said, "oh, chicken cha siu"  i LOLed so loud.

The meats were very overly cooked.  There was one sausage that tasted like sweat.  No JOKE!  like human body sweat.

I got the Lamb Masala, i always get masala, the dish was sooooooo small.  I think i will take my mom to naan and curry next time.

Overallllllll.........things good here were: garlic naan, water, and this black vinegary sauce they gave us for the meat?

I would not come back sorry.
OH! and you come out stinky, or stinkier than you were before.

I love the food at Amisha, they make some really awesome stuff. I prefer Amisha over Nann N Curry up the street and they are way better than Tasty Curry on 9th Ave.

the catch here is the price.

Three items for just myself is easily $30

They have a pretty big space and I have never seen it full inside. So I'm sure they have to have higher prices.

Amisha's is a great little Indian restaurant in the Sunset.  The food is all North Indian style, with a wide variety veterinarian choices.  I have to say the signature dishes are the Lamb Chop Tandoori, Seek Kabobs, and the Wok style Chicken Karahi.  All dishes are made to order/Spice level and come with a few additional condiments.

The Naan is brought out fresh, and if you are daring try the Keema Naan :)  It's Naan stuffed with spicy ground lamb.

The service is good and the restaurant is clean.  Nice little place for lunch, or take out.

I have this tendency to over eat when ever I eat Indian food.  I just can't help it.  I want to try everything and my eyes are always way bigger than my stomach.  Last night my group had the butter chicken, tikki masala, and the vegetarian vindaloo along with a naan basket and rice.

The butter chicken is really good and the sauce is creamy.  The downside is that it's not on the menu.  The tikki masala has great flavor but I think the chicken could have been a bit more moist.  The vindaloo was lacking some of the vegetables but the sauce was great for dipping. Garlic Naan's always a hit with me and their onion kulcha was cooked to perfection.

Overall, its a decent place with decent prices.  It definitely satisfied my Indian food craving for the day.

I've been to Amisha twice. Both times the food has been VERY flavourful. Average price and serving sizes.

Inside it's rather uncomfortable due to the kitchen being like 7 feet from the tables in the front...Immensely hot.

Everything was quite spicy. The mint chutney was very spicy, VERY good. Loved it. The tamarin chutney was rather bland.

Their mango lassi was excellent too :)
