It has everything you need! Very convenient.
BUT... no Amish people in site. Kinda upset about that. Like I went to the zoo and the Elephants wouldn't come out or the tiger was feeling lazy and didnt want to get up and walk around.
    Ill be back.

Here are the reasons I go-
Fruit so luscious and fresh you want to jump in it and roll around.
Hot variety of soups and food
    LOTS of vegetarian choices
Weird things you cant find in other markets
Tons of cheeses, olives, pickles to grab quickly for a picnic....

Reasons I hate myself after I go-
CREEPY CREEPY white haired old guy following us and any other half attractive females around the SECOND you walk in, every single damn time you go.  Just for him alone, I HATE going there.
Also, prices are sky high. Food emporium has all the fake veggie meats like morning star chikn patties at 4.59 a box and Amish market sells same exact product at a ridiculously inflated price of 7.99.  Thats um, basically DOUBLE.
What I get here in two bags of food, any other store I walk out spending the same money with five bags of food.
The chicken can be pretty rancid when you get it home and actually smell it, its happened to me 4 times and I dont know why I dont learn...but most other products are fresh.   The food buffet looks good but plan on spending about 15$ on a simple salad.
What can I say, in the summer, I get too lazy to walk to extra block to farmers market so I go to amish market and deal with the creepy stalker dude as I bite into my fresh juicy apple.

I just stumbled upon this little market while looking for a morning coffee. I was quite please with the staff and the tasty coffee. I took the time to walk around and check out their selection of food. They had a decent fish counter, olive bar and salad bar.

I don't know New York well enough to judge on prices but it all seemed pretty fair to me.

This place is my neighborhood grocery store and this makes me extremely happy. I find myself ducking in here on my way home from work to scoop up some of the homemade soups and salads from the hot salad bar as well as sampling the fresh produce and extremly large cheese selection. This place does not disappoint in the level of selection nor in the price. This is fantastic market! Thanks for reading and enjoy.

This Amish market is near my sister's apt, so we did some grocery shopping there.  Right when I walked in, I noticed all the amazing looking desserts that I was eyeing.  I stayed focus on what we needed to get, but I couldn't help but go back the night before I was returning home to grab some dessert to enjoy after our homemade dinner for the night.  I trusted the girl behind the counter for recommendations and went with the tiramisu, chocolate strawberry shortcake, and red velvet cake.  It was UNBELIEVABLE...soft and fresh!  Each one was good in its own right.   I also hear the pizza is the best pizza in NYC...I will have to be the judge of that next time I am in town!

By the way, all of our groceries were excellent quality as well.

Amazing prices on produce... other things are a bit steep. (epecially dairy items) Great salads and coffee. Great staff.

    Fresh. Local. Amazing selection.

Amish Market is great if you're looking for a hard to find, specialty item, and Whole Foods has already failed you - for example, I'm addicted to Siggis yogurt and AM is one of the few places that carries it.  They also have a great selection of sauces, olive oils, and canned goods (although their soup section and frozen food section are both totally lacking).

Unfortunately, if you're looking to shop for your basics, be prepared to pay 20-40% more than you would anywhere else.  I only come here in a pinch, or if I'm looking for something really specific; otherwise, I trek down to TJ's or suffer the indignity of the Food Emporium (at least they have a rewards card).

The store itself is warm and inviting.  The staff are the exact opposite though; they are notoriously unfriendly, and beware the hot/cold bar. At least half of the meals I've gotten from it have made me quite sick.

Stopped in to do a little grocery shopping, but ended up thinking w/ my stomach & going with their dinner buffet.. 30 minutes later & laziness kicking in, I got no grocery shopping done but the food was pretty good.
The only negative is that the groceries are pretty pricey here.. but for the most part, it's a nice market & good food.

First, I'm always amused at those who think this market is affiliated with the Pennsylvania Dutch. This Amish Market is pronounced "Ah-Meesh" and is Turkish owned and operated. I've shopped here since its inception and have watched it expand over the years. The prices may have increased along with the square footage, but the variety of foods never disappoints. My only complaint is that they no longer make and stock chopped liver.

    Just remember, it's pronounced "Ah-Meesh."

It's overpriced, but it's on my way home from work, so I come here when I am in a time crunch or I need a few little things for a meal I'm making. Let's be real here: the produce is fine and cheaper than you'd get at some grocery stores in the neighborhood, but most isn't organic. Stiles is a few blocks away and is way cheaper for the basically the same fruits and veggies. Amish Market got a fairly nice selection of specialty items, which is nice, but I can't justify spending $3.99 for a little box of almond milk that I know I can buy elsewhere for $1.99.

That being said, I like they've got a nice salad bar and good soups. I buy my coffee beans here too. I just don't like doing my real grocery shopping here.

Came here for simply water and discovered a bounty of goodies.  From their deli, desserts, cheeses, olive bar to their gourmet coffee.  Everything appeared beautifully presented and we were impressed by the variety in such a small shop.  So much to eat and only one stomach to fit it all.

A great find in Hell's Kitchen.  Prices definitely on the up side.

I WAS fooled by the name: had no idea they were so diversified.

I made my first trip tonight, and was very pleased. SO much better than Food Emporium on 8th. I liked the quiet feel of the Amish Market, and lots of basics and nice specialty foods at pretty good NYC prices.

I'll still grab most of my groceries when I'm at Trader Joe's and lug them home on the subway, but this will be a great stop for quickie runs, and for some additional flavors and nicer things TJ does not have.

It's also decent for quickie meals from the hot/cold bar. The cold stuff I got was all good; the hot looked a bit dried. (It was 9pm.) I could not beat the price of $7 for a full chicken, rotisserie broiled. It was tasty but a bit dry.

Update: Been back several times, all the same. The chicken is cheap but always dry.

I prefer this over Food Emporium.

Whilst the Food Emporium claims to have the very best for me, they lie. The Amish Market has fresh(er) produce and is way more affordable.

Come for the cheese, and stay for the cheese. Gawk at the wall to wall shelves of Olive Oil. Pick up the $30 bottle, then put it back down again, because really, what are you going to do with a bottle of oil that costs more than your groceries? Dream of what you would do with a 6 top Viking range and a Mele hood and one of those solid butcher blocks with the marble tops. Think of that Kitchen Aid you saw at Sur La Table and imagine making tri colore fettuccine with the pasta attachment. Wait, where am I? Oh right, I can barely make instant mac and cheese in my kitchen.

That being said, the Amish market is close to my gourmet dreams. While the seafood counter is severly anemic, they offer a ton of cheeses at really good prices. Like wow, this is really good chevre for $4.00. Also, after 8 PM, the hot and cold bar is practically free (its 4.99 a lb).

I love Amish Market!  Expensive, but well worth it if you live near 9th ave.  Can I say Gourmet... They have thousands of hard to find products.  Besides Whole Foods, the Hells Kitchen/Columbus Circle area, there aren't many markets like this.  I found the best pure mango juice that I can't find anywhere!  They need to bring Amish to Westchester and CT..reminds of me of a smaller Stew Leonards and Fairway.

You won't find the bearded type or friendly family riding a horse and carriage, but you will find delicious fresh produce, seafood, and butcher cuts. This gourmet market with two full rows of fancy cheeses is phenomenal for a night of culinary masterpiece in your kitchen. Elegant pastas, sauces, and even a hot bar for prepared food on the spot, this Hell's kitchen marketplace puts the traditional supermarket chain to shame. At prices comparable to the local Food Emporium or D'Agastino, if you have the time to shop for better products, there really is no reason to skip out.

I would say the produce selection is pretty good, but I bought raw chicken here once and it reeked of decay once I opened the package at home.  A second time I bought "fresh" mozzarella and found it to taste moldy!  Honestly I have a high tolerance for nasty foods and will generally sway towards the "sure, why not" side if encountered with a questionable dish.  But the meat and cheese that I got from the Amish Market was just awful and I had to throw them out.  I would be careful when shopping here for foods that have an short expiration date.

My needs are fairly minor, so for the most part, I can get everything I need here.  It's like a mini whole foods.  Cheese, olives, wine, dairy, "green" bathroom products, tea, eggs, nuts.  That about covers my weekly shopping, and they have it all.

There's a Food Emporium about an avenue away, and a D'agostinos maybe 10 minutes away, but if this is your nearest grocery, might as well use it.  It's not bad.

My main gripe is that their fruit is pretty hit or miss.  Sometimes it's ok, sometimes it spoils quickly or doesn't taste that great.  Although I've never found reliable fruit in new york, so I guess it's about average.

This Amish Market is bigger, cleaner, and better stocked than ones I've been to downtown. This chain competes directly with whole foods, dean and delucca, food emporium, etc. with their deli/cheese sections, organic upscale groceries, and cooked food.

Although I'm impressed with their large cheese and olives selection I found this store's selection of fruit and sugar-free items to be severely limited.

When we discovered our original destination for dinner tonight was closed, we were too hungry to wander much farther and noticed this place had a buffet food bar.  Although the selection wasn't huge, it was quite sufficient - and everything looked/tasted very good & fresh.  There's seating for twelve people by the buffet bar and the cashier was fairly pleasant, plus the other workers seemed friendly.  Be forewarned, however, that the price per pound is high ($7.99).  We asked for some water and the cashier said we'd need to get it from the coffee bar (which - btw - looked very appealing).  However; initially the young woman at the coffee bar told me they only have hot water (?!).  It was like speaking a foreign language to make her understand that we wanted TAP water.  I finally said "Don't you have a sink for washing your hands?!"  At least she then gave us huge cups of water.

The store itself had a great selection of items, and the array of vegetables in particular looked terrific.

I hear a lot of reviews here saying Amish market is cheaper than the Food Emporium or Dagostino's on groceries, but I've found the opposite.  Amish Market= $3.99 for Amy's burritos; $2.99 at Duane Reade, $2.99 at D'Ag, $3.49 at Food Emporium.  They are too high-end to carry Lean Cuisine, but I think I was looking at $5 for a macaroni and cheese there, too. Stacy's Pita Chips and Ben and Jerry's ice cream both sell for above MSRP.

Maybe the people who think Amish Market is cheap are shopping for $30/lb European Cheese or $100/bottle olive oil.  Maybe that price point is considered "normal" for The Island of Crazy Prices.

They have a lot of good food that would be tough to find outside of New York and that's worth something. But as a middle-class guy who's not a foodie and just wants to cook at home on occasion, I will get my frozen food from FreshDirect and/or Duane Reade and my vegetables from Stile's vegetable market.  Amish Market works in a pinch, but only after you've exhausted the other (less expensive) stores.

This is certainly by go-to place when I just need a few quick items and I don't want to deal with the chaos that is Food Emporium an avenue away.  Their cheese selection is large and the prices are actually cheaper that Food Emp.  The deli section is great and I have enjoyed their sandwiches.  Pretty much all the basics.. fruit veggies canned stuff diary..

Also, there are always a lot of cashiers; lines are pretty much nonexistent even during rush hour.

I think this place has a lot of potential but the prices can be high on some items.

Also, I want to make a comment on the cheese section. They have a great variety of cheeses at reasonable prices, but it is wrapped with poor quality cellophane, so the cheese basically tastes like....the Amish Market. It has that faint stale, detergent kind of aftertaste. It helps if I let the cheese sit out for a bit but really I don't think there's any excuse for selling a product that requires maintenance. I can go to the bottega for that.

Since I began working in Hell's Kitchen, this has become my go-to lunch place. The pizza is unique and tasty, the salad bar is well-maintained and offers a rotating variety of gourmet (okay, buffet gourmet) side dishes and hot entrees. I recommend the Giant Beans - just trust me on that one. They even offer one humane turkey brand (Applegate Farms) at the sandwich counter.

While you're there, you can pick up necessities for the fridge. The fresh foods are meh, but the packages goods are usually from high-quality sources.

The staff are a little shy as I think most are immigrants from North Africa, but everyone has been very kind to me after I made a little effort.

Thank you, Amish Market. Without you, I'd be hungry till dinner!

The Amish Market is one of those places that turns me into a chipmunk as it hoards sustenance for the winter. Lots of interesting specialty foods, and a good collection of other wholesome favorites here. This local, mom-n-pop kind of market totally surpasses most of the local markets in Hell's Kitchen. It's provided me with most of what I needed when Whole Foods couldn't, like fresh apricots in September, organic granulated tapioca powder, and dried bay leaves.  Beyond that, the Amish market has a good deli, a great selection of oils, jams, cheeses, and artisan crackers.  I keep finding great culinary treats like Margaret's Artisan Bakery Pepper Corn Flatbread that goes well with Blue Fromage D' Affinois or St. Agur cheese. The staff behind the bakery and deli counters were helpful.  The check-out stands - not so nice.  Overall, the Amish Market, sort of a country oasis in a pretty busy part of NYC, is a quite a find.

NOTE: No booze here to pair with the cheese, crackers, or chips.  But, no worries, just a few short blocks away is Vinter's Wine Market which has a great selection of beer and wine on 9th Ave @ 47th St.

Plus all the goods they offer at the shelfs, they offer fresh rolled sushi, sandwiches, a great salad bar with hot dishes.
Hidden on the rear they have a olive bar and a very extensive selection of cheeses.
But the best of all, at ALL times they have all cashiers operating, so no lines and a quick checkout!

We stopped in and discovered this little gem on the recommendation of an acquaintance.  I was amazed at how much they packed into a relatively small space!

Everything you could want (from sushi to traditional Amish items to several hot & cold food buffets to an olive bar, extensive cheese selection, you get the idea...).  If you haven't yet been, it is worth checking out.

Fresh fruit/veggie prices aren't as good as Stiles, but nothing beats Stiles prices on produce.

From 9th Ave, it looks so quaint and interesting. When you step inside, they have a cornucopia of fruits and vegetables strategically placed to give the suggestion of freshness. Don't believe it! Two times now, I have purchased souring, stomach turning dairy products. The pre-made food is horrendous and you will pay through the nose for all of that incompetence. Amish? Maybe only for the fact that they don't use modern-day refrigeration.

Also...have to agree with the other reviewers, the one on the East side is much better.

The only reason why this market did not get a 5 star rating was because the produce section was not impressive. Right past the produce is this remarkable hot/cold buffet of delicious food which include roasted apples with dried fruit, chickpea stews, colorful tabouli and more! For only $6.99 you could get a pound of anything you'd like!

Let's move on to the next impressive section: CHEESE!!!! I thought Zabar's was amazing. It was like Zabar's cheese area that went on to another cheese area and then yet another. THREE areas with different types of cheese. CHEESE HEAVEN!

Next MAJOR plus that makes me want to give this place a 5 star rating (but blame the produce and small seafood area for the 4 instead of 5 star rating) is.............OLIVE OIL AND VINEGAR section! I have NEVER in my life seen that large of a selection of olive oils and vinegars. See my picture for this market and then imagine that times three and you get an idea for the selection. I had to resist trying to buy one of each kind...I still had a lot of walking and shopping to do, otherwise I may have picked up a few bottles.

Now we have all heard of soy milk, almond milk and rice milk...but have you ever seen hazelnut milk!?!?!? Well...I hadn't...till now! Amazing! Then they had all sorts of Leban Kefir that we can't get in San Diego :( I considered loading up and packing it in dry ice to take home...

Last but not least...I could not resist picking up some VACUUM PACKED DURAM SEMOLINA WHEAT. What store has that? Please tell me if you know of one in San Diego.

Checking out I couldn't resist picking up 100% Pure Maple Candy in the shape of a maple leaf. So cute!

Hmmm sigh...I wish I was a New Yorker so I could frequent this market. What a gem you New Yorkers have with the Amish Market. I'm jealous!!!

There is something about the Amish Market that is particularly unenthusing to me.  Besides having nothing to do with *real* Amish people (where are the women hand-churning butter in rocking chairs?!), the establishment kind of lacks an identity.  Is it a gourmet market?  Health food market?  Over-sized bodega?  My personal opinion is that if you're going to do something specialized then you should do it well, and I don't think the Amish Market fits that bill.

The produce selection at Amish is not bad considering how difficult it is to find fresh and decently-priced produce in this city.  With Stiles' Farmers Market 3 blocks away I cannot justify paying twice as much for lower quality produce to myself, but I will get the occasional produce item when I need something quickly and at an odd hour.  The cheese and meat selection is nice but again overpriced, as are the fresh pastas and spreads Amish Market makes and sells.  Forget buying packaged commodities here because D'Agostino and Food Emporium are both nearby and are less expensive than Amish.

The prepared food section leaves much to be desired - including  a bottle of pepto bismol.  Amish Market, while open early and closing late, does not change out the items on their salad bar.  Not only does Amish Market mark down the price of the salad bar 50% less after 7pm but they also throw in a free side of indigestion to go along with your 8-10 hour old assortment of food.  Looking at the salad bar even at a busy hour, say midday or evening, you can just look at the hot food and see that they have been sitting out all day.  Call me crazy but that does not qualify as delicious or gourmet to me!

There is always an interesting variety of soups at hand, but they are kept at a temperature too high and  without fail scald your mouth upon consumption.  The less popular soups also develop the ominous "skin" that elementary school cafeteria nightmares are made of.  The fresh made rotisserie chickens happen to be tasty, fresh and seasoned well.  With a $5.99 price tag they are also a good deal.

As far as the selection of "gourmet" items, Amish is strong in random areas like a robust olive and cheese selection but lacking in the basics.  I stopped into Amish looking for Herbs de Provence (spices) for a recipe.  Sadly enough Amish did not carry this very basic spice blend while Food Emporium did.  Uhh...not cool.

On top of all of my miniscule complaints Amish Market advertised being open 24 hours a day and then rescinded that quickly.  FAKE OUT!  I have found many better local alternatives to the Amish Market and suggest you do the same as well.  Think locally, don't act Amish-ly!

    (1) Let's start with the coffee.   This is, hands down, IMHO, the best coffee in all of Manhattan.  The aroma greets you as soon as you enter and it is incredible.

    (2) The hot / cold buffet (and soups) makes a PERFECT lunch - many options, all fresh and CLEAN.

    (3) The olive bar and cheese bar - superb both in cleanliness and variety.

    (4) The supermarket: great selection of European treats (chocolates, sauces, etc).

    (5)  Deli deserves it's own star - again FRESH, clean and fantastic.

5 stars for these 5 amazing aspects of the Amish Market!

Who knew the Amish made pizza? I sure didn't. But it's good Amish pizza with Amish pesto, cooked in a traditional Amish wood-fired oven.

I've never really done groceries here, as I don't live in the area, but I do stop in to grab snacks every once in awhile. I particularly enjoy the olive bar with its diverse selection of brine and oil cured, black and green, Greek, Italian, and Spanish salty deliciousness (where you can sample before purchasing like they do in civilized establishments... not like Whole Fo -- AHEM! cough cough...). They also have a salad bar that's not too bad.

Anyone who thinks this place has competitive prices hasn't walked the three blocks up to the Westerly Health Foods at 54th and 8th. Let's take a quick look at some of my purchases today:

Brown Cow Yogurt: $0.99 at Westerly, $1.69 at Amish ($1.19 at Whole Foods)
Bear Naked Granola: $4.79 at Westerly, $7.49 at Amish ($5.49 at Whole Foods)
Synergy Kombucha: $3.49 at Westerly, $4.49 at Amish (forgot to make a mental note of the WF price)

Now that you all know a little about my eating habits, you can probably see why i do most of my shopping at Westerly. Why, though, one might ask, do i ever go into Amish market after this little comparison-shopping adventure?

    One word: cheese.

Amish Market has a cheese selection rivaling Whole Foods, and with mostly better prices. Westerly doesn't even have pre-shredded jack/cheddar mix, much less peppered brie and random other cheeses i've never heard of before.

So i do most of my shopping at Westerly or Whole Foods, and swing by Amish Market for my cheese. I wish it were simpler, but alas, i can't be deprived of my dairy.

Addendum: Westerly does in fact now stock pre-shredded jack and cheddar. It's just way overpriced.

This market is a nice alternative to the stuff that is being dished out at Gristedes and other nearby supermarkets.  They have a lot of quality stuff that is mainly organic, though they're being sold for hefty prices.  Some folks would consider this place gourmet, but I have seen more of that at Whole Foods than I have here.

Since they  became 24 hours last year, avoid coming here for any of their hot food between midnight and 6AM.  Do your part and go to a diner instead because the food is NASTY.  I saw flies swarming all over leftover food, completely dried up from the heater firing it up.  If you have to, buy something wrapped but expect to pay a premium for it.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome.

Things I love here: international foods (lots of middle eastern, I know the owner from Turkey so a lot of the foods I miss from there I know I can always get here), the awesome salad bar, and the JUICE/SMOOTHIE bar. Great concoctions.

It has a really great, old-world style feel about it. A lovely grocery shopping experience.

Okay. I feel bad saying this, but I feel obliged: I purchased a $6 Amish Market salad and came home to discover a tiny dead fly nestled under a lettuce leaf.

    This has happened TWICE.

Nonetheless, after staying away a few months, I followed the advice of my father ("Bugs are good for you, they have protein!" Translation: don't be so picky) and gave Amish Market another shot. Luckily, I have not found any foreign objects in my salads since.

This is a convenient shopping spot for Hells Kitchen residents; however, some items are pricey -- you'd pay better prices one block east on 49th St. at Food Emporium.

Amish Market is a great place to shop for cocktail party, birthday party, etc. cheeses, crackers, veggies, and pastries. Pre-made sandwiches and salads are also very good; their ostrich jerky and banana chips are among my favorite snacks!

I once pointed out to the manager that all the boxes of a particular cake mix had "use by" dates that were several months old.  He quicky removed them all from the shelf.

When I returned the next day... there they were... all those same expired cake mixes... back on the shelf.

    [sigh]

I would probably give Amish Market 3.5 stars if I could but, its the holiday season so, I'm rounding up.

What works about Amish Market is that they are small but not bodega small (and I mean small in size but also small in focus). Amish has a good focus on some good foods. Their Mediterranean selection is pretty wide with offerings including: olive oils, cheeses, dolmades, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, pitas, roasted peppers, you get the picture. Their sandwiches are reliably good and the guys behind the counter will make you pretty much whatever sandwich you want or request as long as they have the stuff. They offer rotisserie birds (a little small for my taste) that are nicely seasoned. There is a good selection of cereals, specialty foods, spreads (including chocolate peanut butter) and groceries for their size.

The downside of Amish Market is size. They're trying to to do too much. It is hard to find great produce here - passable produce yes but, not at a Midtown price. Their beverage selection is limited. The chickens are small. The coffee is just OK. And I can't shake the feeling that if they scrapped a few features like the dessert bar and hot and cold bar, they would be a great little market.

If you prefer more than the chips and sodas of all the little bodega-ish joints on 9th Ave in Hell's Kitchen, give Amish Market a look - especially for the generous sandwiches.

I've always been a huge advocate for Amish Market, specifically the East Side locale. I love their set up and the food is fresh, well kept and in abundance. Moreover, their sandwich, salad bar, and pizza oven are excellent. I used to frequent that place on a daily basis to get something delicious.

Lately I've been spending a lot of time closer to the West Side, so I decided to try the Amish Market in Hell's Kitchen for a delicious sandwich to accompany my Tuesday night viewing of Lost. I even got a friend involved and told her it would be fantastical.

I am officially 0 for 2 when referring this particular friend of mine to establishments. Usually at the AM on the east side I'd order the turkey, brie and honey mustard sandwich. I decided to go for the same thing on the west locale. I can't describe the major disappointment that accompanied my dinner. The bread was stale, the brie tasted old, and they skimped on the honey mustard. It was a dry, unappetizing ordeal.

On top of that, after surveying the actual market I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't as clean as the east side store and all the food in the hot bar was dry and looked like it had been sitting there all day. What a shame. It's safe to say I'll stick with the one on the east side. Stay away if you can.

I really enjoy this market!  It has the basics that you need and all the fruits and veggies right at the front, but for fun I also like to browse the pasta, cheese and meat counter.  They have a big selection and the couple of cheeses I've bought were great.  Staff is very nice and they have a hot and cold food bar with some tables and chairs as an added bonus.
