"You're like me" - Frank Booth

I know you are like me, you wake up on a Sunday morning, craving duck, but are unwilling to face the lines for brunch at Longman & Eagle and its duck egg and duck hash - last year there were no lines but now there are - but you need duck - I know, I know, I need it like you do, my child, so what do you do, what will fill your craving?

The Amish, will, my child, the Amish will.

For they have duck eggs, and duck eggs in volume, with, dare I say, double yolk in single eggs.  I cannot say whether such a phenomenon is legal or valid but it is, I tell you, it is DELICIOUS.  And if you feel you cannot handle the rush at Longman, and I tell you truly that I share that feeling, be sure to stop by here earlier in your weekend so that it shall not be free of duck.  Fry those duck eggs up in your castle, sprinkle them with exotic salt and pepper, and Louisiana hot sauce, and wash them down with bourbon.

Their duck eggs are fantastic, and, at 50 cents a receptacle, a devilish bargain.  Deliciously cooked a very, very soft sunny side up, with a smattering of foreign salt and a heaping of Lousiana hot sauce, paired with bacon, avocado, and a generous slice of the butter purveyed by Amish Healthy Foods.  Their butter is rich, creamy and faintly felonious.

Do not stop there, for they have buffalo heart and a multitude of varieties of offal and other rare cuts.  I look forward to searing my buffalo heart and channeling its spirit throughout Logan Square; you will undoubtedly find your own backyard similarly blessed.

Driving down Western Ave thinking "Man, it's early *. I'm hungry, who would be open this early in the morning" Then I spotted this little grocery shop "The Amish that's who!!"

I wasn't expecting much just because other independent stores have only the basics but not the Amish. This placed rocked!! Veggies everywhere, fruit, breads, snacks, jams, apple cider, deli meats, cheeses, I could go on forever. I was a bit over whelmed and hungry which cause crankiness. Lucky for me the check out gal was super helpful. The level of service was surprising! No really, this gal made me a sandwich and poured me a cup of fresh apple cider while I perused the small store. I left full and with enough groceries for the week, even better... the prices are cheap.

My only wish I lived closer but I'll be back.

*Ok, so it was like 10am.

the owners' daughter was working when i came in and she was really sweet! she offered me tea, lots of helpful hints on deals, and also alerted me to which apples were the best. her friendliness demonstrated itself best when another customer, a regular, hugged her as a way to say happy holidays before he left on vacation!

there's not a wide selection of produce, but there's lots of other really interesting products, like royal jelly and special popcorn kernels. there's also really cheap gluten flour, meaning that i no longer have to rely on hauling my butt to whole foods for their more expensive brand. lots of beans, flours, grains, preserved foods (peach jam! apple butter! banana chips!), and homemade candies. this place is definitely not a jewel with a wide range of everything, but it carries all of the really hard to find stuff and it's all higher quality, organic, and local to IL!

What a nice lady and what a great store.  A cool little selection of high quality locally sourced food, including a small but impressively fresh selection of organic produce.  Many but not all of the products are made by the Amish (breads, cheeses, meats, jams, etc.).  Things are a little on the expensive side but you get what you pay for.  Keep up the good work and I will be back!!

This place is true hidden gem! I can tell you exactly what we bought: apples, beef jerky, pumpkin pancake mix, banana chips and beef patties. We have yet to eat he beef patties and have yet to open the pancake mix. All of the rest of the stuff has been eaten and thoroughly enjoyed! I must say say that we are in for a real treat we we do break them open.

The prices are a little high but the quality and the taste of what we bought was the best. It was well worth the price of acquisition. The lady working was super cool, super friendly and super helpful and made us feel right at home. I wish I lived a bit closer so i could frequent them more often. I would go out of my way to go back here.

What an adorable, independent store and with so many goodies packed into the space!  It is refreshing to know that there is a place selling snacks that are not mass produced, but often difficult to find, such as fresh vegetable chips and beet chips.  Also, this place sells some of the best roasted turkey and apple cider I have ever had.

The employees are extremely welcoming and helpful and offer various tastings, while shopping.  I felt as if I had a mini-breakfast!

It feels good to purchase locally and at a cheaper cost then other places in the area.

What a nice little grocery! I was sad to learn about how much money the owner had lost from doing the Groupon deal. I have yet to eat some of the things I bought there, but the meat and chese I did eat was so tasty it's gone.

Whole Foods is a bit of a hike for me, and I always end up buying more than I need because it's so huge and everything looks so tasty and appealing. I like that at Amish Healthy Foods, I'll be able to get just the basic stuff I'm looking for -- meat, dairy, some produce, maybe a couple of pantry items -- and leave without buyers remorse. Stop by and try it out! I didn't try any samples, so I cant speak to everything they have, but I'll be back to try all of those soon. ;-)

I'm in love with this store! Raw cheese, milk and butter? I'm in heaven! It's a small place, but you can certainly find everything you need, and if they don't have it, they'll go out of their way to find it for you. Thank you, ladies! You truly have the greatest customer service I've seen in a while!

I love this place! It's about a 5 minute walk for me to get organic bananas, milk, juice, veggies, soup mix, flour, noodles, nuts, etc etc etc... The girl who usually is working when I visit (Natalia) is amazingly sweet and friendly, and is always helpful! I am so grateful for a small, local business that can provide healthy food options to this area.

This is an odd little place. First, it's called "Amish Healthy Foods." The name alone is what got me to stop in after I saw the storefront while driving down Western Avenue. I wasn't aware that the Amish people have a particularly healthy diet; they eat a lot of fat, carbohydrates, and animal proteins. But, of course, the name of the store is supposed to imply that the food is produced by Amish people, and that the food is healthy.

A very nice Ukrainian lady was working in the store when I stopped in. First, she asked if I'd ever been in the store before. When I said no, she said first-timers get an automatic 15% discount. Then she asked if I would like a cheese sample. Wow! Discount and free food? Yeah, sure!

By this time, another customer had come in the store. The clerk cut us both slices of 3 different cheeses that were stored in the large walk-in refrigerator at the back of the store. I ended up buying some of the yogurt cheese, and it is delicious. I forget what the 2nd one was, but it was good, too. I wasn't crazy about the 3rd one, a dill cheese, but that was only because I don't like dill. If you like dill, you'll probably like this cheese.

There are jams, jellies, meats, snacks, and lots and lots of cheese There were a couple jams, including a gooseberry jam, available for sampling, and that tasted good, too. I ended up buying a bag of Honey Mustard & Onion Sourdough Pretzel Pieces. It is good. It cost $6.76 a pound.

The thing that really bothered me, though, and the reason I don't rate this store with a 4th star, is something the clerk said to the other customer. The other customer asked her, what's the difference between "natural" and "organic?" The clerk said, there really isn't any difference. OOOPS!! There is a huge difference between natural and organic. Organic foods have to meet strict USDA standards to be called organic. There are absolutely no standards for calling a food product "natural." I could wrap up my poop in a baggie and put it up for sale as a "natural" product and be fully within legal standards. But it wouldn't meet the standard of organic.

The clerk's statement made me wonder if anything in this store really is organic. If a product doesn't meet the high standards of truly "organic" meat, cheese, jams, or pretzels, then the customer is paying some awful big prices for something you could get at Aldi for a whole lot less $$. Until the owners of this store can certify, 100%, that their products meet the "organic" standards, buyers should beware.

I stoped in today for  a look around, was the first time customer. The lady offered me tons of samples, which for me is VERY important, Im so selective about taste on everything. I ended up buy some really great jelly and mustard, with local pasta, brown sugar and eggs.
local local local is the key words here.
I cant wait to try the meats from here.

This place rules, some things are a bit high, but I kinda understand.... quality and such.  Always a unique healthy new find whenever I stop in, and the owner is super nice.   It's like a Whole Foods in my hood, without all the yuppie ducks.  yeah, I wrote ducks.... it's the nice way.

I am very lucky to live so close to Amish Healthy  Foods.  The family that runs Amish are sincere and sweet and truly listen to there customer's needs....it's truly a very personal, old-school market in the best way. I like to have a steady stream of greens, beans and veggies and for that I do go elsewhere, but I can get everything else here. (Although they do have some veggies.)

I go there for organic frozen meats as well as giant local and delicious duck eggs. You can also get great-quality dairy and coconut oil, fruits, grains, and other dry goods.  Also great little snacky stuff and bath and body products. Tons of samples, good local food, family-owned and local...love it!

5 stars for the best turkey burgers I've ever bought. I love this store. They have great jam and jelly and lots of dried fruit. You get to try lots of samples which is great because some of the stuff is pricey but well worth it. I love the cheeses they have here. Swiss cheese and turkey and I'm set. I almost hate writing a review because I'd like to keep the awesome meats they have here my own little secret. Yum. Oh yeah, and Amish popcorn rules!!! Who knew?

My sister just discovered that she is allergic to chicken eggs, but not to duck eggs. Who knew duck eggs would be so hard to find?! Amish Healthy Foods was the ONLY place I could reach who not only carried them, but promised that they had them every week. I made the trip to the store to get them, and the eggs were plentiful, fresh, and very inexpensive. The owners could not have been nicer! They helped me pack the eggs safely for the drive, gave me a free loaf of bread, offered to help me carry it all to my car, and recommended I try the zucchini bread (which was FANTASTIC). I am totally smitten with this place. Go spend your money here!!!!

Think of this store as a mini-Whole Foods. Very good meats, dairy, sweets - and almost all organic and from local farms. The owner is a very nice lady who offers up all kinds of free samples. You'll pay a little extra, but it's worth it. Go there and enjoy delicious foods.

These are possible the most friendly people I have ever encountered anywhere ever for any reason. They gave me a bunch of trout along with all of the other things I bought, just because and thought that I would like it. The produce is the hot jams, and everything else I sampled in the store was also pretty dang tasty.

To be honest, I haven't been there personally, but my wife got some oatmeal raisin cookies from them last week which were excellent.  In fact they were out of their "day old" bin (~1/3 off) but still deserved gratuitous praises. The store is not very big so the selection is limited, focused on meat, dairy, baked goods, and jams.

I stopped in to pickup some organic steak for my hubbie on Valentines Day. The owner was super nice and explained the different choices to me. It was SO affordable compared to the other options for organic meat in the city. Being vegetarian, I had to rely on my husbands opinion of the meat, and he thought it was fabulous. I also picked up some organic red husked popcorn and it was super yummy. The red popcorn kernals have less "husky stuff". The owner has a nice supply of frozen meats, cheeses, rice, noodles, jams, and treats now (along with fresh whole chickens in the fridge) and told me they would continue to expand as business picked up. I will continue to come back to this place not just because it is in my neighborhood, but because it is a great value for natural food. Thanks for coming to the neighborhood!
