Went here for Tech Cocktail 3 this evening and I have to say, I was impressed. Maybe it was the event itself but there was something very warm and inviting about Amira as an establishment. The chef had made a few hors d'oeuvres for the event, both chicken and steak kabobs, a veggie kabob and some coconut shrimp and while none of them exactly blew my socks off, they were still very tasty and well conceived.
The bar was your standard bar, the bartenders doubly so. I stood around and waiting forever for a simple Coke and once I was served, it was in a very small plastic cup. I've worked food industry and if it weren't open bar for us, I'm sure that 8 ounces of Coke would have cost at least a buck and a half.
Still overall I left with a good feeling. The valet guys were congenial and fair, the location tucked away off Michigan Avenue enough to create an feeling of intimacy amongst the hustle and bustle of the Magnificent Mile. I don't know if I'll be back to Amira but I'm certainly glad I came. -

3.5 starrish... Just renamed to Amira mediterranean from Pazzo's Cucina Italiana, its the same owner.
They have a little cafe/deli lunch counter as well as a full service restaurant and bar. I've never eaten at the restaurant, I always go to the little deli. Their little cafe/deli has really good wood fired pizza, and its a great deal ($5-6 for a full pizza)... The other stuff looks good too. it took going there more than once to realize that the cafe area has its own little seating area on the other side of it, its kind of hidden away.
The restaurant/bar has daily drink specials and $2 appetizers between 4-6PM. -

I work in the building, which is the only reason I've eaten here. In this 6 yrs I've worked in the building, the restaurant has been 3 different things, or at least 3 different names. That makes me think there is something fundamentally wrong here. The last place Pazzo's at least had a decent lunch line and standard Italian. Amira claims to be Mediterranean, but the dinner menu is pretty generic. And while I have not tried the dinner, the lunch line has gone way downhill and somehow more expensive.
If you're at the NBC Tower, go to Boardman's cafe instead, or go to any of the hundreds of restaurants in this area. -

I didn't even get to taste the food at Tech Cocktail 3 last night, but the kabobs looked amazingly tasty. Very nice space and atmosphere with Chicago-priced drinks. Perhaps not the most fitting space for Tech Cocktail 3, but it worked for what it was worth. Not sure if I would come back on general principal; there was very little that was distingushing about the place.

This place is Mediterranean? Went here with th guys from work the other day. They ordered tacos, and I had Fajitas and mashed potatoes. I don't any of use could finish the food because of all the grease.
