I love these hole in the wall joints and I have to say that this place is probably the best hole in the wall in Hawaii!
Haven't had a single disappointing meal here. Their lasagna is by far the best I've ever had. Hot subs are pretty good and their pastas are to die for!!!!
It's priced reasonably and the lady who owns the joint is really nice and friendly.
I visit this place way more often than I should, but man their food is really addictive. -

Talk about hole-in-the-wall... Don't blink, because you'll miss it.
Me: so where are we going to eat?
Friend: let's go Amina's
Me: What's that?
Friend: french bread pizza! You're in for a treat!
I got the meatballs & peppers french bread pizza. My friend got the spinach & garlic. Since it was my first time, we swapped slices so I could try another than what I ordered. I must say, it was both delicious. From what I saw in the picture, it looked small. It is like a 6" french bread sliced open length wise and topped, then cut into fours. After 2.5 slices, I was full.
There are more than french bread pizza on the menu. It's a comfort Italian food eatery, so you have choices from pasta to pizza, bread sticks and salad. Everything is priced reasonably.
Parking can be found in the back of the building. There is also parking on the street.
Casual setting. There is only four four-top tables inside. The walls are covered with pictures of the menu items or a few pictures mixed Italian things. We went there after a hike, so it is casual. I will definitely be back. -

Great little hole in the wall.
Wonderful cheezy garlic bread. French bread pizza that is similar. Good spaghetti and meatballs (sauce is a little sweet, and not as much of it as there should be), but meatballs and tender and flavorful.
Parking behind the building. Don't be scared off by the security guard. The guy working on weekends is so nice. -

Great food and a really great price. My boyfriend and I come here as often as we can and every time we do, we bring new people to try it because it's so good that we have to share it with everyone we know..

Today was my first time here. I got the meatballs and mixes peppers French bread pizza. The bread was awesome it was so soft the sauce was sweet with a hint of garlic, there was plenty of cheese and it was topped with some parmeson cheese. The peppers were mostly green bit there were a few red ones. Overall, it was awesome and i will be returning.
The place is small and has roughly 14 seats. The lady working the counter was very nice. Downside is there is no public restroom. -

Dear pizza lovers,
This place is a MUST try!!
Fresh ingredients. Old jazzy music playing. Good service. The owner is also very sweet :)
There are pizzas that taste awesome and make you feel bleh after, but the pizza here makes me feel content and satisfied without feeling so full ^__^
Will definitely come back for more! -

Needed an Italian lovers heaven fix ASAP, and found this Glorious place.
***Careful with parking, if you drive! or you WILL get towed with the signs that are ineligible to READ***
Besides the parking, the food is just mouth watering, as soon as you enter the small little restaurant, you can immediately smell the aroma of italian spices! OH THE GLORY of scents that fill my nose!
I even forgot what I ordered here, ahhh who can forget? Mushroom Alfredo and added extra meatballs, and the garlic bread?! oh my gosh, the garlic bread! Buttery goodness that makes you want more, luckily when you get anything from basically the pasta menu, it comes with! $9 can't go wrong!!
The place was a little packed, but I think it depends on the day you go, you see regulars go in and out, and customer service was always served with a genuine smile! -

Awesome food. Awesome waitress. Awesome owner. Just an overall great place for Italian food! Prices are very reasonable (especially for Hawaii). Highly recommend trying it out of you're looking for a great new place to eat! They work really hard considering its only two people working on weekends and usually one on weekdays, I always leave them a good tip!

This is one of my favorite pizza places because the pizza is awesome and they're always open! It's right across the street from Home Bar on Kalakaua Ave. You can park in the lot around the corner on Fern St. The place is small and there's enough seat for about 10 people if you want to eat inside. I usually do takeout (Call in your order). The owner is really nice but she runs the shop by herself so don't expect speedy service if it's busy.
My favorite here is the French Bread Pizza. I usually get the Spinach and Garlic one. She puts a lot of garlic in it! The pizza is about $8 and it's enough for 1 person to eat for a meal.
Everyone seems to love the Spinach Garlic Calzone here. It's good but has tons of cheese in it so keep that in mind. -

I just ate a spinach & garlic calzone. It was excellent! I will be back to try other dishes that I saw on the menu. I want to try the eggplant dish and the lasagne.
Parking is in the back, but there are only 5-6 spots. I got a spot.
I wish that I would have tried this place sooner. I usually go to the Kaimuki Boston Pizza when I crave garlic & spinach pizza, but this calzone hit the spot just fine. I think I just ate 500 calories though~ tons of yummy cheese!
1/28- I went back again tonight. This time I called ahead. I got the meat lasagna which came with 2 garlic breadsticks. It was very good! -

wanted pizza + try something new last night. YELP can be so dangerous with reviews...good/bad can be fake - set an improper expectation. Parking is difficult definitely. When I got there, I honestly had low expectations. From the outside, to the inside it was somewhat drab - and nobody eating at dinner time. But once I got my french bread pizza it was all better. The spinnach/garlic calzone though not as good as the FB pizza...tasted delicious also

At Amina Pizzeria, calzones are made fresh to order so you can have your choice of fillings which is great because I like spinach but not garlic. So, over the course of two days I've ordered 4 calzones: spinach and cheese, spinach and mushroom, veggie special, and meatball and bell pepper (for the bf). The bread they use is super soft, fresh, and flavorful; the cheese is a nice blend that includes mozzarella and ricotta; the veggies taste fresh not frozen. The two item calzone with a generous serving of marinara is $7.95 + tax.
The owner is soooo nice. She was nice the first time I ordered and she remembered me the second time! She is also very efficient. I just love that kind of service.
You can call in your order and they'll have your food ready in 10-15 minutes. -

This place is going to be a staple for us. I showed up here not sure what to expect. I read online that it was one of the few places on the island serving "zabiha halal" meat (blessed Islamically -- like Kosher) for some of the items on the menu. I walked up to the register and the owner marked up a whole menu for me letting me know what was halal and what wasn't.
I wound up getting pizza with sausage and pepperoni and it was delicious, albeit oily (although, what pizza isn't? and it's nothing a few napkins can't take care of..). The server was attentive even though it was packed inside and they were getting tons of takeout orders so close to closing time. I'd definitely go back and try some of the other things on their menu. -

9 Inches of Heaven
I found out about this place last week and have been wanting some pizza desperately! Finally, I got my pizza today! It was 9 inches of heaven. LOL. Maybe a little too big for me though. Not a bad problem to have if there was a problem to have. For a moment I was telling myself, "just jam it in and get it over with!" LOL. I tried to finish that sucker, but I couldn't finish the last delicious slice. BTW it was still delicious cold!!
The crust was just the way I like it: Crispy and Hot! The sauce had a little sweetness to the tomatoes with a hint of spice. Also the cheese factor was great! Ample cheese that is gooey and creamy. The best is when the cheese stretches from your mouth to the pizza. That for me shows the quality of the cheese. If there is no stretch then the cheese is not fresh or it is processed.
Being in this take out/sit down restaurant is very relaxing. Over the stereo system I was hearing a saxophone playing Lauren Hill's "Killing Me Softly", which was strangely awesome. Then came "I'll Make Love To You" by Boyz 2 Men! It was interesting to say the least. One thing that will stick with me about this place, besides the amazing pizza ($7.50), is how nice the service is here. They just seem happy to see you and to have you in their eatery!
Amina Pizzeria's slogan is "Tasty Italian Food" and I agree! I had 9 inches of it! :D -

Dear Fellas: If you're single, this is the perfect place for a first date.
TEST 1: It might seem counter intuitive, but when you go out on your first date, you don't want to go to a fancy, high end restaurant. Amina Pizzeria is a hole-in-the-wall where you order from the counter. My BF & I ate there for under $20. A girl who is truly into you will appreciate the simplicity of Amina and the delicious food.
TEST 2: My BF ordered the french bread pizza and I got the meat lasagna which comes with breadsticks. Both were wonderful! See what your date orders and if she only gets salad...RUN. Amina is Italian comfort food at its finest. and if she can't appreciate the wonders of a carbo loaded meal, ditch her! Carbs make you happy and without them, a human being is but a shell of misery. Order a side of breadsticks, they are marvelous.
Enjoy Amina, find real love and name your first baby after me!

This is the cutest (not so) hole-in-the-wall pizza place that serves extremely delicious cheesy comfort gut bombs with incredibly sweet and friendly service.
I was lucky enough to walk in when it was completely dead and so I put in my order for a small pepperoni pizza and side of meatballs. The total came to about $16, which kind of seems like a lot but she actually GIVES you quite a lot. What I love is that it's all legit because you have to wait for your things to bake/heat up. I took a seat and about ten minutes later I got my pizza walked over to me and she sent me on my happy way with an intoxicating box of too many calories
The pizza was really tasty and it'll definitely hit the spot for a pizza craving and I think anything you order from Amina's would be a total hit for a party or potluck. My favorite part was that there was a lot of oregano on the pizza. Oh man that's the good stuff right there. So it had an herby essence (not to be confused with an herbal essence) and the crust was a medium-thin thickness and cooked to a nice crisp. You definitely don't have a soggy pizza here. Pepperoni was a great choice but I'd definitely go back to try some other combinations and toppings.
You wouldn't think meatballs were anything special but man they were awesome too. They're just small but really dense and full of flavor. It must have been due to the marinara sauce they were covered in, and it seemed like a few of the meatballs had a slightly fried crunch on the outside. Either that or it was my imagination of a damn good meatball but I loved it. Highly recommend these if you want to throw them on your own homemade spaghetti. Just say you made them...you'll impress your guest.
An overall satisfying, tasty and welcoming experience with Amina's and I promised her I'd be back so I plan to go. Maybe tomorrow. Bon appetit! -

How have I not written a stellar review for Amina's yet? We've been faithful patrons of Amina Pizzeria for a few months now. The convenient location first lured us in, but the amazing, AMAZING food has kept us coming back.
Without fail, we always order a spaghetti with mushroom and creamy garlic sauce.. because why mess with a good thing? If you love fettuccine alfredo, you'll love this flavorful twist. Also quite fond of the oven baked meat lasagna. The made-from-scratch difference is evident with every bite.
Portions are quite generous along with very reasonable prices. Street parking in the area is always a pain, but we use Don Quijote's parking lot as a last resort. Amina is the sweetest person, and you can tell she puts a lot of love and hard work into her business. -

Came here at the suggestion of Yelp, but I found the food only average.
The dining room was tiny as advertised which was fine, although the single employee working when we came in probably contributed to our experience. I don't know how she did it all, but we were served hot food in good time. The quality of the food though, a bit disappointing. My boyfriend and I shared the frenchbread pizza and the baked penne with meatballs. The penne sauce was way way waaaay too sweet for my taste and you couldn't tell the penne was baked as the cheese on top wasn't bubbling or crispy. The frenchbread pizza was fair, but again the sauce was a bit sweet and the bread was only average (but that's coming from a girl hailing from San Francisco, the city with the best french bread outside of France). Overall, my favorite part of the meal was the hot fresh garlic bread the penne came with. mm!
Oh! Also, I felt the dishes cost a lost more that they ought to have cost. -

One of the few halal spots on the island and also a good Italian place. It reminds me of the east coast and prices are fair. Food is made to order and it has a college atmosphere. Parking can be tough and if you are a tourist it might be hard to find. Once you are there though it's well worth it.

Amina is very worthy of a rare 5-star rating! I have been a big fan since Amina was located in Kailua. Not only is the food great, but the owner is very sweet. I took a long hiatus between my last visit to the Kailua location and my first visit to the current location in town, and she still remembered me and what I usually order!
My two favorite items are the combination calzone and the meat lasagna. I also enjoy the mixed green salad which I sometimes order to complement the entree. The lasagna is just the right combination of meat, cheese, and pasta, and I love the heap of marinara sauce on top, which I like to soak up with the accompanying bread.
The value is very good too - large portions at a reasonable price. Also, the quality of the food is always consistent. A great place to get good Italian food at an affordable price, with friendly service!Listed in: Comforting

I am a guy who loves pizza and calzone's and this place was not a disappointment at all!
Food -5 Stars
As other yelpers have mentioned, there is hints of sweetness in their food. For me that is a good thing but I just wanted to throw that out there for the people who don't like that kind of thing. I ordered the spinach and garlic calzone which was excellent. I also tried some of my wife and sons food and it was just as good.
Service - 5 Stars
You are not waited on. You order at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready. They were quick with the food and we didn't have to wait long.
Environment - 5 stars
This place is really tiny as you can see from the picture I posted but luckily it wasn't busy when we went there so we had seats. There is no parking for this place so you will need to park in the housing area and walk a few minutes.
Overall, I really liked this place and will be coming back a lot. -

Four stars only because it is not the best I ever had, but it is still GREAT! The cheese was such high quality and rich in flavor that the marinara would have just covered this awesomeness up. It was real, fresh spinach and she was so nice! She is a one-woman show so expect a little bit of a wait. It's worth it.
I started to write this review a while ago, but I've been craving that calzone ever since. I NEED it! -

Had the Amina's Special Pizza or at least that is what i think it was called and it was delicious. I had expected an authentic Italian type of menu/food, but it was close enough. As long as the food is good then I am happy. Also had the spinich and cheese ravioli, which I liked, but a few others thought it was good, but not great.
There is a japanese hostess/cashier so I was skeptical when I walked in, but I believe the owner/cook is italian or has some european in him. So don't worry, its not Japanese people making Italian food. Ha
Place is small and if I recall there is about 10-12 seats. Parking is not too good either as there are a few stalls up front and some in the back. Which is why i deducted 1/2 a star. So i rated down to 4 becuase it was not the best i had, but it did come close. -

Honolulu, HI
The Mushroom Alfredo was really creamy, but it didn't have the kind of "kick" I was hoping for. It was a little bland to be honest. The lasagna had a good amount of meat and cheese, and the meatballs were a nice touch, but it wasn't something that blew me away. Your meal comes with garlic bread, and I thought that was the best thing about the meal. We also ordered a pepperoni pizza, but it tasted like any other pizza at an Italian restaurant. I think I had high expectations going into this place based on yelp reviews, so when it wasn't the "greatest" italian food on island, I was disappointed. It's still good though.
Pros:
-The food is cheap considering you get a really good sized portion. I think it was less than $25 for a pizza, the alfredo, and the lasagna.
-The food comes out straight from the oven so it's still hot when it lands on your table.
-The lady/owner is a sweetheart.
Cons:
-The place is really small -- only 4 tables.
-You might have to wait a while for your food. When I was there, it didn't take long. I didn't see anyone other than the owner going around the tables.
I keep hearing about the spinach and garlic calzone, so it looks like I'll have to try it. Who knows, I might even give this place another star afterward. -

Aminas! Mama Mia, imma comin' back for calzone!
I've seen this place a few times driving by. Im what you a call a pizza-holic and i can eat just about any pizza, good, bad, frozen, cold, anchovies. Anyways being a pizza-holic doesn't imply that i have a desensitized taste for it. Now granted i didn't try there regular pizza i had an opportunity to try there french bread pizza (mushroom and pepperoni). And it was a good pizza. I would definitely eat again but im not sure if i'd be ordering it. The sauce is on the sweeter side, i guess it my personal preference but i'm more of a fan of tart things. Though the crust is just a nice crispy chew. I love the texture. Definitely worth a try.
Now we review the garlic and spinach calzone. Wow what a cheesy calzone! This this was a hefty cheesy bomb! It was rich and decadent and very tasty. I am definitely coming back again for there calzones! All in all i highly recommend this place for the value and calzones! =DListed in: Mama mia Pizzaria!!!! (pizza…

Amina's is so yummms.
Thank you, Yelppies... if not for you, I would never have tried this little shop. In fact, even after looking up where it's located, I still couldn't find it... I had to call... & it didn't help that Amina's accent is so strong... lol.
It was pretty late already so I snagged a parking spot in front to pick up my take-out order...
We tried the Mushroom alfredo, pepperoni & mushroom french bread pizza, and the spinach and garlic calzone... all so tasty!

Get: Pineapple and ham calzone
Pass: spinach garlic calzone - unless you LOVE spinach and garlic and cheese like nothing else in the world.
This little hole in the wall literally has 4 tables, like other yelpers said. I went on a friday evening and there was no wait however. I tried the spinach garlic calzone since everyone said it was amazing, and my friend tried the pineapple and ham calzone. The dough was really really good - light and fluffy with a little crispiness and good flavor. The cheese used in the calzone (and these are really cheesy) was tasty. However, the spinach and garlic calzone was a little too cheesy for me, and although there was a strong garlic presence, the spinach was kind of an afterthought and didn't add much flavor, so it was really a big dough ball (yummy dough) of cheese and garlic with green stuff dispersed between. Albeit, this was still good, but not the best on the menu. I preferred my friends pineapple and ham calzone, which had more than enough meat and pineapple to balance out the cheese. Delicious and filling, especially for the price. -

Very glad I found this little place. Just a small joint with four tables. Very friendly waitress, and Amina herself likes to look through her window from the back where she's cooking to smile often.
The sauce is very sweet and good. The calzone is really great. Instead of being too thick and chewy like many calzones, it is thin and the inside is delicious as well. It is not fair to compare her spaghetti and meatballs to a restaurant in a Little Italy or in Naples, IT, but it is good in its own way. The bread on the sub sandwich was perfectly toasty as well.
This is a delightful little spot to come- not far at ALL from Waikiki Beach. And hey, the prices are good and you don't have to eat at one of the 3000000 chain restaurants!
Thanks Amina! -

BEST ITALIAN FOOD HANDS DOWN! This place is as close at it gets! Ive been coming here for years now, and this place leaves me happy every single time.
Ever since i can remember ive visited Amina at their old location in Kailua, prior to their move in to town. One day i was totally heart broken, an extreme state of chaos when i drove up to their previous location in Kailua, only to find that it had been closed down. I was on the brink of falling to my knees screaming "I GOT NO WHERE ELSE TO GO!" for years, i was in a pasta comma. Yea, it was tough, and the side effects were quite horrific. Night sweats, cotton mouth, the thousand yard stare. Nothing could compare to the great pasta i had once tasted at this miraculous Italian pizzeria.
Then one day, i light from the heavens shine down on me while i was driving down Kalakau, and a voice said to me. "All these years you have been deprived.. deprived of the greatest pasta you have come to love, and all these years. I have moved along with you to your new home in town." Could it be??? AMINA??? you followed me home and i didnt notice your new location. My mind exploded with happiness, and my stomach was tingling. I burst through the doors of AMINA's and the same lady had recognized me, and asked me if i had wanted the same thing i always ordered. HARK! a true italian pasta handler! my dreams had come true. All my days of fantasizing of dipping that Soft italian loaf of bread into that hot sweet CHICKEN FETTUCCINE ALFREDO SAUCE had me all worked up in the head. I needed a quick fix. I didnt just eat it. I bathed in it, it was raining alfredo up in AMINA. sauce drippin everywhere!
Eatting at amina's isnt just an experience, its an epic adventure! cant wait till next time. Im throwing back some pizza slices.
Room space is kinda small- but i say it makes more comfy and cozy to intensify that connection between you and that savory italian dish!
Service is excellent-The wait isnt all that bad. the pasta all ways comes out steaming hot, it sends tingles through my finger tips and rattles my brain. If you dont like waiting, call ahead, you can do take out. Bring that luscious piece of Amina back home with you.
Food- can you say PASTA MAGNIFICO!?! and at decent prices.
what else can i say? nothing. go dance in it!Listed in: Party like a rockstar

Wonderful customer service, food and prices! Husband and I found this by accident while going into Waikiki one day. The inside is very small with a few tables if you decide to dine in. It is definitely very different from Pizza Hut but in a good way! The pizza here which we always get is not canola oil oily but instead is cooked with olive oil which adds to the yummy-ness. I believe this place gets more popular each time we go! They do close between certain times...I believe it was from 2...3pm - 4pm? Not exactly sure so you may want to call before you make your way down there.

I was sad when I passed and saw the place was closed, because I never got to go back and try more. Happy to say, they're open again! This time I wanted something different.
Creamy Mushroom and Garlic Spaghetti- 5-stars- I rarely give any dish such a rating, but this was over-the-top delicious. I do believe I shall compare all my creamy sauces to how this one smelled and taste. Already, opening the dish, the aroma was amazing, the depth of garlic mixed into that creamy sauce. The first bite took my breath away--it was rich, creamy, buttery, and smooth. The sauce alone is worth the entire dish. I don't even need mushrooms, you could mix anything else with this sauce and it would be excellence. I don't know how she makes it, but it is delicious. It was also thick enough to stick to the noodles, which made it better. I didn't want the dish to end, but eventually, I had nothing left but the cream on the sides--which I scooped up with the bread.
Atmosphere- Still the same inside. Sometimes when I want to go, it's totally crowded. I only think about stopping by when they're not empty, but there is generally at least one person sitting inside. With only four tables and a huge window facing the street, you know people are looking inside. I think they're surprised when they see a little Asian woman standing behind the counter.
Service- Again, all smiles, cheers and happiness. My dish took just over ten-minutes. Again, I don't know how or where they store the food, but it seemed a little fast, but this is fine considering how delicious the food was.
Conclusion- Another excellent encounter with Amina Pizzeria. Their packaging is great--this time it was a foil box with plastic lid. They don't go cheap, which is an added plus.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Everything we ordered from here has been "molto bene" and the quality has been consistent each time. Very nice and friendly Asian lady manning the phones and the tables, but is she the one that actually cooks the food too? I've always been tempted to peek into the kitchen and see if there's a "Mr. Amina" back there making the food. Misterioso, no?
They don't close between 2pm and 5pm like other restaurants do, which is a big plus in my book.
