I eat a lot of Indian food, and though I wouldn't claim to be an expert, I do know what I enjoy. There are few restaurants that I find myself in again and again. Amin is one of them.

Scrolling through these many unfortunate reviews I have to wonder if some of these reviewers actually enjoy eating anywhere?

I've been eating here (due to it's formerly convenient location) with my boyfriend and we've always felt very welcomed by the staff. They remember us and are very kind.

They have the best (really, the best) mushroom shaag I have ever had in nyc and the chicken korma is just as great. Can't go wrong with the Chicken tikka masala, either.

The saddest thing about Amin is that they were forced (I believe forced) out of their lovely corner location and sent off down the block to fill in at the old Chiles and Chocolate. That place is an interior design nightmare and the Amin guys, as far as I know, haven't changed anything in there. Someone should offer them some help in that department.

I had a craving for Indian tonight, so I ordered delivery from Amin's. This was my first experience with this place and my order consisted of mulligatwany soup, naan, chicken curry, and a separate container of curry sauce (just in case it was really good and I wanted extra for dipping the naan into). Here's how it all broke down:

-The mulligatawny soup was flavorful but the lentils were occasionally undercooked. I do not like my soup crunchy.
-The naan was fine, but that's a side that's virtually impossible to get wrong.
-The chicken curry was unimpressive and rather sweet in its flavor, something I do not look for in curry dishes.
-The curry sauce itself was watery and rather bland, so whatever was used to sweeten the chicken curry was absent from the separate sauce.

So after my experience with the shameless ripoff tactics of Baluchi's on 5th Avenue and now this lackluster offering, that's two strikes against Park Slope's Indian restaurants, in my opinion. BOTTOM LINE: edible but quite a disappointment

imho, this is the best indian food in the area.  in all fairness i've only tried out bombay grill further down 7th and sapid on washington ave.  i'm not indian, not a connoisseur of indian food, but i know what makes my taste buds happy!
the tandoori chicken is never overcooked or dry, always cooked perfectly.  the kati chicken?  forget it - it's the one thing i ALWAYS get from amin.  my bf likes it so much, we've even had our own orders of it because one order wasn't enough.  garlic naan?  delicious.  never too much or too little - just right.  the veggie samosas are good, maybe a little on the greasy side, but hey - they're deep fried so what do you expect.

the service here is always friendly, and the food does not take forever to come out.

amin has been my staple for indian food for years, and continues to be one of my favorite, go-to restaurants in brooklyn.

What the food lacks in taste it makes up for in sugar. Delivery person refused to make change for my order (made some excuse about it being sooooo far... um, 4 blocks?!) and thus received a $5 tip on a $15 total bill, on a lovely summer evening.

    Never again.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE - TERRIBLE SERVICE AND FOOD

Ordered take out from here and it took one and a half hours to come and when it did the order was incorrect and cold.  The person on the other end of the phones English got significantly worse when I started complaining and he offered no solution or explanation, he even admitted that the food was ready and they were waiting for there ONE delivery guy to come and pick it up so I knew it would arrive cold.  Ruined our evening.

The place sucks. I ordered for a delivery and they sent just the food. There were no tissues and utensils. To top it off, the food sucked! I got the shrimp Biriyani which had exactly 2 pieces of shrimp in it. I got a gulab jamun which tasted like a bad mix of sugar and water.

The only good thing was the meat samosa. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM HERE AGAIN.

As I'm yet to dine in and therefore yet to experience the famed bad service.

The food itself is great, the delivery is free for orders over $12. All in all - a great take-out stand-by for those sad times when the fridge is empty and the stomach is rumbling.

Not a bad Indian joint in the neighborhood, and they will feed you fairly late for Park Slope (ie. around 10:30 PM).  The naan is good, the curries are ok, but it is underspiced.  I wouldn't tell you to never eat here, but Joy is not far away, so if you have a choice go there.

Around this trendy area of Brooklyn there are not too many Indian restaurants but what brought us to this particular place is the open face outdoor seating. Since it was a gorgeous day the entire front wall of this restaurant opens up and gives us the availability to people watch and enjoy the weather.

Ok now to the food. Portions were big. The waiter gave us for "free" vegetable dumplings which was pretty full and tasty. I ordered the Lamb Shank which I thought would be only one shank but it was two full shanks with a nice side of chickpeas with spinach and a separate plate of rice. My girlfriend ordered the rice with ground beef (i forgot the actual name but its located on the third page all the way on the bottom) which I thought was tasty but could have came with more than just the rice and beef.

Service was good the waiters always had our water glasses full and table clean.

Overall this place was decent. I may come back if I have the craving for Indian in that area.

When it comes to Indian food, I'm extremely easy to please.  I think the only time I've ever had disappointing food trying to pass itself off as Indian was a frozen "chicken tikka baked potato" I found at a supermarket in Bristol, England, in 2000, which I think may have given me food poisoning. Anything else has been generally positive.

But just because I'm a soft touch when it comes to curry doesn't mean I don't know a good dining experience when I get it, and we definitely had it here.  We had great service, TONS of food for what we paid, and quite possibly the best naan I've ever had in my life.  It was gigantic and pillowy-soft.  We'll definitely be back.

I am a little surprised that they charge for pappadums, but I guess not having them there just allows me to have enough room to finish my meal.

As average as it gets.  Uninspired chow and service, but it gets the job done with the usual cast of characters on the bloated menu.  The interior leaves everything to be desired, but in all honesty, I don't have my critical ambiance hat on when I go out for Indian.  If you're in the area and in the mood, sure.  Why not?

The worst Indian restaurant I've ever set my foot in. Incredibly bland, tasteless food, hard aloo paratha, out-of-the-can mango lassie, and worst of all, a mild food poisoning. Never thought a place could be this bad. Stay away from it!

I would like to say that the rudeness of our waiter was due to a 'lost in translation' problem, but I don't actually think that's the case. He seemed genuinely offended that my boyfriend didn't think to remove his napkin from his water glass, so rather than removing it himself, he picked up the glass and held it out to my boyfriend before he would pour the water. He mumbled something about drinks, so I ordered a mango lassi and my boyfriend ordered a ginger ale. The drinks came out in a timely manner and the lassi was extremely tasty. Shortly after, the waiter asked if we were ready to order, so my boyfriend looked at me hesitantly (we hadn't previously established  this) before looking at the waiter and saying, "Ummm.. yes" The waiter looked at him and condescendingly corrected him with, "Yes, I would like to order." I ignored his blatant rudeness and ordered the saak (normally spelled saag) poneer, rice and naan. My boyfriend ordered a beef dish with mushrooms, I can't remember what exactly.

The food came out pretty quickly, after about 10-15 minutes. The runner placed the rice, beef and spinach (saag/saak) on the table, but failed to mention the naan. Naan is essential to my Indian food experience, so I pouted when there was no mention of it before the server walked away. "Normally, they say something like, 'your naan will be out in just a sec.'" I was raised in Long Island and don't have an accent except that I speak very fast. For some reason, rather than hearing what I actually said, my boyfriend thought I said that the server was supposed to say, "Chinook, chinook," when he put our food down. I had no idea what he was talking about when he asked what the significance of "chinook, chinook" was, but was victorious because he's always complaining about me mishearing HIM. Haha! Anyways, the food was delicious. No complaints about anything, the cheese in the saag poneer was smooth and not bumpy or crunchy as I'd experienced in the past... having anything in my food that's crunchy and shouldn't be renders me unable to finish it, so this was especially thrilling. I didn't try my boyfriend's beef because I don't eat it, but my boyfriend finished his and went on to eat a good part of mine.

I requested that the remaining portion of my food be wrapped up to take home, the waiter brought it out a couple minutes later, but walked away quickly without giving us the check or even asking us if we wanted dessert! We waited about 10 minutes before requesting it, paid and left.

Although, the food was really tasty, I suggest you just take the trip to E 6th St in Manhattan... all of the restaurants are in competition, so they offer excellent lunch and dinner deals, also the restaurants have better, decor and much better service. I highly recommend Banjara if you are looking for really nice ambiance and  can afford to pay a teensy bit more for it (plus excellent food). Good first date place.

For the price, one really can't complain. But don't expect this place to be life-changing for the way you eat out. The dining room is unimpressive as is the menu but the service was polite and attentive, the food brought promptly, and the price very reasonable. I have definitely had better Indian food but if you're looking to just satisfy a craving for curry, this place is a decent bet for the neighbourhood and your wallet won't cry. We had the Spinach Bagee, Lamb Biriyani, and Veggie Pakora. Everything was cooked well but I'd leave this place on the back up order delivery/take out list.

Ahh Amin's. Amin's introduced me to Indian food, so I will always have a soft spot for this place. Amin's biggest flaw is their inconsistency. I've gone here multiple times, and the food ranges from being last-meal-on-earth delicious to ehhh. This review is dedicated to Amin's good days, because those days keep me going back (their bad days are probably more in the 2-3 star range).
So on good days, Amin's has got some of the best chicken tikka masala evar (the tanginess of the tomato complements the creamy spinach sauce really well. I could seriously live off this spinach sauce), the korma is the most delicious coconut blend I could ask for, and the vindaloo is spiced so that you actually taste flavors other than paprika. On bad days, the food is satisfying but cooked as if the chef isn't paying attention to the amount of spice he throws into the dish; usually this means you get a somewhat bland meal. However, the naan, poori, and sweet lassis are consistently delicious, and I am crazy about the green chutney. I have never walked out of Amin's feeling less than stuffed, so if you're on a diet, make Amin's your cheat day. Even if the kitchen's having a bad day, I'd still say it's worth it.

Wow.  We're ordering pizza right now because the food we ordered from Amin tonight was so bad we couldn't bring ourselves to eat it.  Samosas were OK but bland.  Biriyani was tasteless. Mulligatawny tasted like Spagetti O's broth.  Chicken tikka masala tasted like the the mulligatawny with a little cream mixed in.  Horrible, horrible, horrible!

I went here today for a late lunch/early dinner and was generally underwhelmed.  My friend and I went in STARVING and would have been happy with anything, but we still thought  the food was just okay and the service awkward.  I ordered the shak ponir and my friend ordered the chicken korma, and we both commented that the food was really bland.  On the flip side, we really liked the naan, and the vegetable samosas didn't disappoint.  The service was a little awkward as the waiters lingered at the table for longer than necessary (and, no, we were not talking about anything worth overhearing) and were not very personable.  If you happen to be in the neighborhood and craving Indian food, it's not a bad option, but otherwise, there are definitely better places to go.

i'm indian and i know indian food .. i am debating between a meh and an a-ok for this restaurant simply because the food is not all that... we went for dinner here last night because it's so close and we didn't want to venture too far out on a weekday... (i have a shitty schedule on thursdays)
it was bengali new year and you should know how i feel about all kinds of holidays ( i like to celebrate! )
mum, gf and i ordered the mutter paneer (peas and cottage cheese), malai kofta (vegetarian meat ball i think is the closest i can describe it as in white sauce) an order of naan (bread) and poori (bread) all of this came with rice and the amazing chopped spicy onions on the side...
it was fresh and spice-less (which is a pro considering we didn't want greasy, spice heavy food) and nicely made.. still, i've had better.. sooo... alright i've made up my mind i'm rating it as an A-ok!

Do not eat here. I live above them and they are dirty! I run a very clean household, but we occasionally get BUGS coming up through our pipes in the kitchen from Amin's kitchen below us. They have been shut down due to health violations several times over the years- they'll clean up and the bugs will go away for a while, but then they come back.

While the food at Amin is among the best Indian I've tried, the unfriendly service leaves something to be desired.  And keep an eye on them if you've ordered a combo -- what you get may suddenly change without much by way of explanation.  Keep the place on your speed-dial, though -- the food is good enough that you may not mind making the call for takeout once in a while.

i have a thing about over-cooked meat. i typically don't order lamb or chicken from indian places because, in my experience, i have encountered more dry, tough pieces of lamb and chicken than not. that being said, for whatever reason, i took a chance when i ordered lamb kurma from Amin. i cannot remember anything else from that meal beside the most tender, melt-in-your-mouth lamb i have ever eaten. amazing. everything else was fine as i remember, prompt delivery, affordable etc. but seriously, most perfectly cooked lamb.

My friend and I went to eat here today, because I've been having cravings for paneer with spinach. The waiter was friendly at first. My friend and I knew exactly what to order: I ordered the paneer with spinach he ordered the chicken makhani and we both ordered three orders of papadum (large circular chickpea crackers) to share. When the waiter came to take our orders, he wanted to sell us their "tasty and delicious" breads. We said no thank you and waited for our food. He first brought us two orders of papadum NOT three, cut in half, and presented them as four servings, because you know, obviously my friend and I are idiots that don't know what we've ordered. He told us that on his "behalf" he brought us an extra papadum...We just nodded, got pissed but brushed it off since the papadum is only $1.50. We ate that, and waited for our food. The service was quick, because we were the only other table in the resturaunt and the table behind us had just finished eating. When the paneer and makhani arrived, the waiter brought one tiny plate of rice and told us that on his "behalf" he would add another plate for free...Of course the rice wasn't enough for the two of us so we took the offer. This behavior is atrocious. He wasn't very good at being sneaky, because like most New Yorkers both my friend and I have visited other Indian restaurants...where the waiters can't give things on their behalf and where the waiter doesn't cut down your  paid for portions to do so. When I paid him, he thanked my male friend. Seriously. This douche needs a hurt real bad. Who does he think he is? But, in other words, just opt for another Indian place. I really prefer Bombay Masala. The same order is cheaper and the portions are good  and no pesky annoying waiters who are trying to sneakily lie to you.

ok - this place was interesting - we ordered our food and got most of it - the naan never showed up and the waiter never came anywhere near us at any point while we were eating so we didn't get a chance to remind him or order a mango lassi - we also could've used more rice, but he just wasn't around to ask - then we go to pay - we whip out credit cards and he gets this look of fear on his face while going "oh no ... no no no ... oh no" and starts to back away - there were VISA, etc stickers all over the windows, so we asked what the problem was and he disappeared - he came back a minute later with the roll from the credit card machine - apparently, he could charge us but not make receipts - he said there was an ATM down the street so we left - on the way, we decided we were going to skip on the bill - 2/3 of us were cool with that, so that was the plan - we were cruising on our merry way when the dude shows up!  he walked next to us until we found the right bank - while we went to the ATM he bought a sprite from a street vendor and tried, unsuccessfully, to look casual - we paid him on the street and that was it

in any case, the food was actually quite good - the service left a bit to the imagination and you might want to bring cash

I got take-out from this place tonight, and I have to say it was just about the worst food I've eaten in a long time. I've eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants, and cooked a fair amount of Indian food myself, but this was terrible. The mulligatawny soup was tasteless, the bread was greasy, and the main course dishes all tasted the same. If you like Indian food, as I do, avoid this place like the plague.
