I was lasing there last week and realized that they're under new management called: Gandhi Restaurant...Still try it out  Hopefully the change is for the better.

I had to take a minute to collect myself before I wrote this review because I prefer to be in a calm state of mind when expressing myself.

My previous account of this place led me to believe that the people employed here are sexist (due to their cultural upbringing) but I was sadly mistaken. The people employed here are just a**holes who will sooner ask for a tip than refill your glass.

I attempted to order lunch today and before I could place my order the guy informed me that I would have to pick it up and that cash was mandatory. I agreed to pick it up but I never carry cash so I immediately refused and asked if we could talk about my order before we negotiate any payment options. Once the order was placed I asked for the total along with the individual prices because the order wasn't just for me. The guy asked if I couldn't figure out the prices for the items when I received the food. I reminded him that I am a paying customer and that I should be treated a bit nicer. Order was finally placed and I hung up..but something seemed off. I was ordering small portions and the price was higher than when I ordered larger ones. It was also suspicious that he demanded cash.

I decided to call back and ask for the manager. The same guy answered and upon hearing my request his first response was, "give me the message and I will tell the manager". I was taken aback by this and followed up with a stern, "no I want to speak to the manager myself". I was then informed that the manager will be available to speak to me next month, then I heard the dial tone.

This is unacceptable on so many levels. I called Discover, MasterCard, and Visa (the three method of payments posted on this establishments door) and informed them that my payment was refused and cash was demanded.

Never let anyone tell you how you pay for YOUR meal/service....NEVER!!!

It's called Ghandi Place now that's it's renovated. It's a great lunchtime spot. The service is good & they remember you if you come more than once. I always get a smile. The food is great and they don't mind when you tell them how to make your dish. I love the shrimp curry SPICY.

The food here is nothing like Indian Row in the EV, I love Taj Mahal with all my heart but Amin definitely wasn't horrible.

Popped in here with my mom last night. The decor wasn't the great. The service was ok not stellar. I didn't really care for one of our waiters but the food was good. Not OMG, excellent, amazing, wow! But it was good. It was a little over priced though. $25pp with a dish at $11.95 each, nan bread, 2 glasses of wine, banana pakora and a simple salad. Total $50. Definitely not a $50 worthy meal but, if I was dying for some Indian food and didn't want to treck into the city, I'd go back.

    Spicy, Spicy, Spicy
That is the first word that comes to my mind when i think about this place.

My bf and I were visiting Brooklyn Heights (first time for me) and we got hungry, there are a few selections on this street but we decided to go for a favorite and reliable cuisine, Indian.

This place isnt that noticeable from outside even though its facing the front, which might explain why there werent that many people in there.

It took some time for our waiter to actually come to our table at first.
I ordered the Do-Piaz Curry which I ordered medium (does that even make sense? ) spicy instead of my usual mild since I thought, how spicy can a moderate indian dish really be? Well the dish itself wasnt bad at all, but man was it spicy...

It was somewhat difficult to enjoy it while tears were coming down my face and my mouth was burning. The service proved to be even worse since they werent really attentive and I had to practically beg for water more than once...
the samosa wasnt bad from what I can recall and my bf's dish ( a variation of the Paneer Makhani) wasnt bad either. Another positive things about this place is the prices are more than decent, very affordable. But even if I ignore the painful burning sensation that was associated with my food, I cant say it would have been memorable otherwise.

My brother and his girlfriend took me out to Amin the other night and I came away full and pleased.

I'd rate the food alone a solid 3.5 stars, but am rounding up because of the pleasant staff.  We ordered Aloo Gobi, Sog Ponir, Chicken Makni and Garlic Naan.  I enjoyed all of these, but I'd particularly recommend the flavorful Aloo Gobi over what I thought of as a more "okay" version of Chicken Makni.

Short answer: I'd happily go back.

Please do not go to this restaurant.....it is the worst indian food place ever.
Firstly, they have a express service system it takes minimum 2 hrs for any dish to get to the tabel
Secondly, quantity is not the worth it.
Third, the cashier is a racist doesn't know how to talk to his customers,

Sincere advice to anyone, DO NOT GO!!!

Montague Street, which ends at Montague Terrace with its gorgeous view of the Manhattan Skyline and its residents like Barbara Streisand, is Brooklyn's version of The Village. In fact, in the last decade, the area has become just as trendy - and just as expensive.

It's understandable, then, that this Indian restaurant is far from cheap. Its target market is mostly the upscale white residents of the area and lawyers and judges on their lunch breaks from the nearby Court Street. The food, though not as authentic as a real connosseur of Desi food would prefer, is very good. Staple dishes like aloo gobi (which is particularly juicy), various masalas and biriyani, are very well prepared and full of flavor, though not as spicy as they would originally be. The ambiance is beautiful. The second-floor restaurant looks out on the old street; the walls are lovingly painted, and the music is unassuming and quiet but adds to the mood.

If you are a real connosseur of Indian food, this restaurant might seem a bit too bland. But it's perfeft if you want to take out your less initiated friends and introduce them to ethnic foods: they will fall in love the flavors without being scared off by the fire-in-the-belly spiciness.

The WORST Indian food I ever had!  Why?  Because it was ANYTHING but Indian.

There was no heavenly aroma to speak of nor any spice at all.  Actually, I was quite insulted for my North Indian friend who took me, our past co-workers, my beau, and boss for lunch.  Being an honorary Indian, I KNOW both aroma and spice are two key features in the enjoyment of eating Indian food (plus eating with your hands and getting all up in it), and it didn't cut it.  It was as if they saw we were mostly white people and figured, "Let's make it bland; that must be how they like it."

We ordered samosas for the table so everyone got one.  They were okay; nothing too memorable or special.

I got from the lunch special the shak paneer, which was to be like palak paneer, but it was just four un-fired globs of cheese in a cream of spinach that I could have made at home.  My beau got the lamb biriyani solely because I suggested it as a safe guard.  It was just as boring as mine!  Being he never had Indian food before, and doesn't appreciate sweating while eating, enjoyed his experience as much as my boss - I must disagree.

The worst part was my boss got this chick pea dish and my Indian friend told me he smelt it, and it was not fresh and still worse - possibly bad.  He complained to the waiter saying how dare they serve something that was questionable.  His response?  A shrug of the shoulders that said, "She ate it - too bad."

This is officially on my damnation list!

Unauthentic Indian food prepared and run by Bangladeshis.
I heart curry! It goes with anything from rice to pita chips! I made a visit to Amin to host my Aunt's birthday dinner since it happen to be close by to her apt. We ordered separate and large dishes to share so everyone can have a taste and sample various entrees.

We ordered the following for appetizers:

Alu Paratha (flat bread stuffed potatoes, sauteed in spice), Ka-chories (Bangladeshis version of stuffed potatoes filled with spices, herbs, raisins, meats and sauce), Aloo Tikiyas (potaotes cakes with chutney and chick peas), Samosa (crispy turnovers with spiced, minced meats with vegetables), and Chicken Pakora (chicken fritters).

    For our entrees:

Fish Marsala Curry, Seafood Malai (shrimp cooked in mild spiced coconut), Chicken Tikka (chicken marinated in herbs & spices, charcoal BBQ), Dansak Curry (lamb cooked Persian style with lentils, hot spices, and Mixed Vegetable Biryan (mixed vegetables sauteed in herbs & spices with basmati rice w/ fruits & nuts).

All of our entrees came with condiments of mango chutney, cucumber Rayta (yogurt with diced cucumber garnished with herbs & spices) and Chana Shag (chick peas & spinach in spiced sauce).

I also had the mango lassi (mango yogurt drink). It was not even up to standard. Yogurt was a bit watery with a faint mango flavor. Luckily, our tables had pitchers of water.

Overall, the Tikki Chicken and Mixed Vegetable Biryan was satisfactory, good enough to fill my empty palette for the night. If you must go, steer from the Ka-chories! The combination of a sweet, sour and salty mix created a wrenching taste. Nothing comparable to the Indian version, Amin's verison was definitely the worse appetizer to start off the dinner. For the best Indian cuisine, trek over to Bombay Talkie, Gayot or Jackson Diner!

Ho ho ho. I ate with a friend here during lunch. We got the take out since it was cheap. It was a while back but I just remember the food tasting very bland and not so good.

I was highly disappointed (since I like indian food) and I promised never to go back again. Theres an indian place along myrtle and during lunch they have a 50% off. I think that alone is worth the trip. (but strangely, their take out menu looks the same....)

I grew up in this neighborhood and still reside in it, and loved this restaurant since i was 14. I don't know what happened but i'm guessing new management. Food is expensive and mediocre, service is horrible. I ordered for pick up once and they got mad that I came exactly at closing time when I ordered 15 min beforehand. They then gave me a hissy fit when I wanted to pay card and said, "haven't you ever heard of cash?" with an attitude. I was also SURROUNDED by a dozen malnourished lookin laborer fobs with folded arms in a futile attempt to intimidate me, I kid you not!!! Looked like a bad Bollywood action movie was about to go down.  They should be thanking Vishnu or whoever that I didn't go into a violent rage and start cracking skulls. Anyway Raga on smith is better between the 2 but that's not saying much. Best tasting and best service is Taj Mahal in Bay Ridge for me.

As far as Indian food goes, the food isn't bad. It's just average.  I've only tried Amin once and it was for dinner.  The best part of the dining experience was the service.  The waiters were very attentive and pleasant.

We had the "Indian Hor's Oeuvres."  Not bad.  Nothing stood out.  The chicken pakora was good.  I've had much better samosas elsewhere.  The cucumber rayta was very good.  It was thick and creamy.  It will actually stick to your bread upon dipping.  I don't like watery rayta and many places make it watery.  The garlic nan was also very good.  Nice and garlicy!  We also ordered alu paratha... good, too.  As for the entrees, we had the dansak curry (which is cooked with lentils) and a lamb kurma (a creamy dish).  Both were good.  Again, there was nothing spectacular about the food, but it's also not bad.

If I happen to be in the neighborhood again, I wouldn't mind going back.  I'll try different entrees and give everyone an update.

As is true for most Indian places I go to, I enjoyed Amin. Great great great location I wish I could live on that block. A small place with a nice view from the window tables. The waiter was a bit weird, I recall him taking a little too much time.

My experience was great from the food to watching my girlfriend sweat all over the place from ordering spicy food. I believe I have pictures of the looks she was sending my way. HEY MISS! Not my fault you ordered spicy food! hehehehe.

The saag paneer was sweet and flavorless although the paneer itself wasn't too horrible.  The chicken tikka masala wasn't great but at least it had a little bit of flavor to it...sort of.  The samosas were over-fried and way too heavy.  None of the food was more than lukewarm when we got it and everything seemed overpriced.

The only reason Amin gets three stars instead of two is they are far and away the best Indian restaurant we've tried so far in this neighborhood...even though they suck.  At least this time I was able to eat a whole serving of my entree instead of throwing it away after a bite or two.

Regardless, we won't be eating here again.

I wish we could give half stars (hint hint yelp)!

    Things I liked:
    1. The service was prompt and the waiter/host/water filler (all the same guy) was friendly.
    2. The garlic naan was really good, but I wish they would have sliced our piece. Instead we just had one really chunk in a basket!
    4. The lamb curry was really good, but could have been spicier. Maybe I should have asked? Specified? Who knows. I was really pleased though that the lamb actually tasted like meat..and not chunks of gristle. That's always the worry when you order a meat dish in a dark sauce! They can throw anything in there!
    4. Rice pudding=yummmm.

    Things I didn't like:
    1. Bathroom is in a weird back hallway. It gave me bad kind of unclean vibes..which is not great at the start of the meal!
    2. See above note..slice the naan please!
    3. My bro ordered the mali kofta and I snuck a few bites. I'm usually all about the creamy dishes, but this was so thick and cloyingly sweet that I could not have enjoyed more than a few bites.

Food were good, and service was helpful and fast. I probably will not eat in the restaurant, I hate to say this, but the decor is not my cup of tea (and may I suggest that I am not picky!!!)

There's no other decent Indian Food in the area so Amin could have this ecological niche to themselves if they tried. They don't try.

Moody, erratic service,  middling cuisine and a bizarrely changeable credit-card policy make this a place to avoid unless your curry craving can't wait for someplace good.

The worst service!! I've been here a bunch of times hoping that they will improve their service and each time it has actually gotten worse! They are so cheap here - they don't want you to use credit cards even though it says that they accept them.  If you want to split the bill with a friend on credit card, forget it because they don't want to pay two credit card companies on one bill. They make a face when you ask for more rice when you're sitting with three people and they give you one plate of rice to share with all your dishes.

The food may not be horrible but I always leave here with a bad taste in my mouth because of the service- not worth it!

Personally I like this place, but I always get the chicken tikka and they make it just the way I like it.  My European taste buds can only handle so much spice before I start breaking out in a physical sweat and the fact they go mild on the spices is nice for me.  Waiters are kind of weird and awkward, but whatever its not that big of a deal for me.  I've been here with a few people and they've always enjoyed their food too.  Not the most hardcore authentic Indian place I guess, but I like it.

Apparently they had some health code violations a few years back, but I've never found anything in the food that shouldnt be there or gotten an upset stomach.  Gives the place some character! haha

Place was near empty when we went, and I more or less understand why.

It's not that the food was terrible -- it was mostly passable.  But the place is just not very welcoming and, frankly, the trip to the bathroom is what made me decide not to go back.  The back of the restaurant (i.e., where the bathroom is located) looks unfinished and dirty.  The bathroom is one you'd expect to find in a dirty corner fast food joint, not a family restaurant.  Just turned me off.

    which included:
Choice of Two Appetizers, Soups, Main Entrees (2)
    Curry & Bbhuna (2)
    Paratha , Mango Chutney (2)
    Desserts expect seafood

but we accidentally got naan too and it was way too much food.  but that is such a good deal! and it was really delicious!  and our waiter filled up our water every five seconds!   and we were almost the only ones in there.  i love that!

I expect better for the price and the location of this restaurant. It's located in beeeautiful Brooklyn Hts. The food is ok, but could be better. The ambiance of the restaurant is outdated, seems like they haven't had a renovation in 20 yrs or so. It hasn't been crowded last couple of times, so yes it's fine for quiet relaxed dining, bc there's no one else there! You may crave Indian, but you're better off spending your money elsewhere.. the Amin in Park Slope is slightly better.

Had a really awful experience here. Food was bland, and my Aloo Motor Gobi was liquidy. We were one of 3 tables with people at the time and didn't get much service, and when we did, the guy was trying to rush us along and trying to get us to order more things. The worst, though, was that 3 of my friends ordered the Samosa appetizer. They only brought out 2 plates, so 1 person said "eh fine, I'll do without." When the check came,  and we asked not to be charged for the third plate of Samosas, the waiter claimed that he did indeed bring out 3 orders...on 2 plates, with no explanation that 1 order = 2 samosas. Will never return, no matter how much I'm craving Indian food.

i usually order take out from the Amin on DeKalb, but since i was out and about, i thought it would be nice to go to this one.

the food was good. i was a bit disappointed in the naan. i think that's because i'm used to soggy naan (i know... the horror!) and this naan was a bit crispy (or burnt) at least in the middle.

i liked the ambiance... it was very quiet. great for catching up with a friend or two and the like.

there's not much more i can say about this place. it was a fairly decent dining experience and i would go back if i was in the area and in the mood for Indian food.

In a cruel twist of fate--or maybe it's just plain funny--I finally got shown up for the true honky I am after asking the folks here to spice up my vindaloo. I lost all sensation in my jaw about ten minutes ago, have emptied two pitches of water, and still can barely touch the takeout dish. Each bite hollows out more of my gumline. Somebody finally called my bluff after years of this request at Indian restaurants, and boy, my taste buds would thank this chef. If they were still with us. The place is pleasant, clean but way overpriced, and so my quest for good South Brooklyn Indian continues... when human sensation, or my palette, or hunger, returns.

My review is not about the food, the food is fine (not great, but it has managed to hit the spot when I'm craving indian and don't feel like leaving my apartment). My review tonight is about the guy who delivered my food this evening. This delivery guy managed to make me feel completely unsafe in my own home by asking multiple times if I live alone, trying to get in my personal space and then loitering outside my door after I got my food. That's not a good way to make sure your female customers keep ordering from your restaurant. I don't think I'll be ordering from Amin again.

    Tasty!
After reading thru the reviews on this site, as well as urbanspoon, I really didn't know what to do. I wanted Indian, and Amin was the most convenient for me as I was running errands on Montague. So, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and pop in to get our dinner to go.
The atmosphere was very clean (a far cry from the East Village places). The staff was very kind and inviting, as well as helpful. And my order was ready within fifteen minutes.
I ordered both the meat and the veggie samosas, the chicken vindaloo, lamb chana curry and naan bread.
Now, I'm usually very skeptical about take out and delivery, especially when it's a place I've never been to. I've had a number of times when I really wish I could just send it back... and I'm sure some places are going with this one little benefit - I can't.
But, this truly was a happy meal for us. Everything was nice and hot, still, by the time I got home. The vindaloo was just the right amount of spice, and the chana rich in flavor. The samosas tasted fresh, and the naan was warm and soft. They included daal and the additional condiments. And we got all of this (with plenty left over) for $33!
I will definitely find myself needing to run errands more often on Montague, and picking up dinner again from Amin.

I've been coming here for over 13 years, as I spent many years in the area in school, and it was a convenient fix for my Indian cravings.  This past Sunday, my partner and I visited for a late lunch.  All these years of devouring Indian food, and I've rarely encountered a sincerely nice staff member.  They are always keen on wooing you in with a smile, but upon being seated, it turns into a race to get out (after pushing as much food as they can on you).  Now, I understand it's about numbers, but a restaurant experience should also be about pleasantry.  Back to Amin:  It's really the dhaka liver that brings me back everytime (many places get this dead wrong), but the food, overall, is satisfying.  Strange occurence:  We were asked to pay with cash "if we could".  We did pay with cash because that was our intent from the outset, but we later pondered the reason for such a bizarre request.  Has this happened to anyone else?  We are two men of color, so we didn't want to go there with the "race" thing, but it did cross our minds.  If someone else has had the same experience, we might feel a whole lot better.  Perhaps, they are trying to hide income from the I.R.S.
