Been going here for years. It's a great hole in the wall. If you blink, you might miss it. Most recent visit was with my hubby. Sat at the bar. Darkly lit, good drinks, attentive waitstaff. Servings are huge! Come hungry and leave happy. There's also a restaurant side if you don't want to go to the bar.
Street parking and very small lot in back! Will be back again for sure. -

We drove by this restaurant on Colorado Blvd. many a time, not even noticing it. It is very unassuming from the outside and easy to miss. Funny how those are usually the BEST places, isn't it?
After a recommendation from my wife's co-worker, we wandered into Amigos one Friday night and have have been regular customers ever since. Amigos does not score points for decor or fancy digs, but man do they have great food and margaritas. Not once have we tried something that we did not like and we've had super fast and friendly service each time we've gone.
Some of our favorites include the carnitas tacos/plate, chicken tacos, arroz con pollo, and guacamole.
I must honestly say that this is our "go-to" spot for Mexican food...and we're picky about this genre having spent many years in El Paso, TX and Los Angeles. -
Review from Rick R.
Alhambra, CA
I wouldn't call this place a hole in the wall, but it's definitely has that hole in the wall feeling....which is why this is one of my favorite Mexican spots. It's definitely one of those hidden gems that not too many people know about.
First off, every true Mexican food aficionado knows that "chips and salsa" is the first test as to how good a Mexican restaurant is. Amigo's passes this test easily. Chips are always crisp, they have the perfect amount of salt on them and the salsa goes perfectly with the chips as well as blending in nicely with the food. It's not the standard pico de gallo that you get from alot of spots. This one is definitely tasty, and if you prefer the hotter type of salsa, they do have a habanero blend that you could request.
But what I really love about this place is their margaritas. Two of these will usually do the trick for me, but if you're a lightweight, one actually just might be enough to get you that really good buzz. Any more than that and you may be asking for trouble. It turns out that they do sell pitchers of it and for $1 more, you can get a cadillac margarita (don't quote me on that, but that's what I remember from the last time I was there).
There are so many delicious dishes here with a good portion size (actually, the portions are very generous here), but the one dish that I usually almost go back to is the Colorado Burrito. For under $8, you get a huge wet burrito with sour cream spilling off it and a side of rice on the plate. For me, it seems to hit the spot.
I've also had their soft tacos (which are tasty) and their shrimp cocktail (also big portions), but I usually just go back to what I love, the colorado burrito.
The bar isn't much to write home about, just a couple booths, a jukebox, some average TVs (don't think it's in HD) and a bunch of barstools. But it's the food & margaritas that keep me coming back to this hole in the wall.
If you're a fan of margaritas and good mexican food, I definitely recommend this spot. -

Tequila galore. Margarita's too, both Cadillac and regular. Maybe they have food, not sure. Plenty. To. Drink. Awesome plus is it's very close to second run movie theater, The Academy, where you can laugh at normally unfunny movies, but you're amazingly drunk so all bets are off.

Arcadia, CA
We came here upon the recommendation of Alice while we were going to check out the 626 night market which was many blocks away that turned out to be a a poorly created event.
Alice said Amigos has some good food and because we were walking it seemed like forever while walking east on Colorado blvd. There was six of us cruising down to Amigos which I thought was funny cause we were going to the 626 Market for some Asian food instead we are heading to a Mexican restaurant.
Upon arriving we were quickly seated and our drink orders were taken. I want to say the Jamica was pretty darn good with free refills. I ordered the Carne Asada dry with no beans except rice. The meats were beautifully cooked and I finished the plate clean.
Within a couple of days I was back for the Carne Asada Burrito and again I cleaned off my plate and having some good Jamica.
This place also has a bar aside from the restaurant. The waiters are friendly and helpful and refill drinks without me asking. I think next time I'm asking for a margarita to try. -
Review from Kathy C.
From the sad sign that simply states "cocktails" on top of the door, you would never think that this place served up some mean margaritas.
The Cadillac margaritas are pretty strong (as they should be). The blended margaritas were tasty, but not quite as strong as you would want a margarita to be. The free chips and salsa and friendly service were great as well.
I wish I could write about the food, but we just stopped by for a drink because we heard that Amigo's had great margaritas. I'll be sure to stop by and try the food next time. :) -

My friends come here a lot and so I came with them. I'd come back, but I'm not impressed and would not come here on my own. The food is okay, not exceptional. I also ordered a strawberry margarita that I could not finish - very good but too sweet for me.
I really like the juke box, a mix of classics and latin. The decor is only okay, the place could really use an update. -

This is our go-to place for Mexican food. Everything I've had has been great, several times I've asked Fernando, our favorite waiter, to surprise me with a meal and he's never disappointed. Everything he's ordered for me has been yummy.
Their margaritas are amazing...get the Cadillac. -

This was my first visit to Amigos. I am a huge fan of Mexican food and I was looking for something new. Based on the Yelp reviews I decided to give Amigos a try.
The margaritas are tasty and strong...if you drink more than one, be prepared to have a designated driver.
The food was good but not outstanding. I had a beef taco and cheese enchilada combo. Everything tasted good and was filling. I wish they would put onions in their cheese enchiladas.
The décor is the typical tacky Mexican.
The service was prompt and courteous.
The night we went, it was not particularly busy and our food came within 5 minutes of ordering! We didn't have time to get filled up on chips and salsa.
This restaurant is located on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena and has a small parking lot. Parking can be an issue.
I plan to come back and would also like to try their Happy Hour. -

Pro:
-There's 10% discount if you bring have a Cal Tech ID.
- They got Lunch Special from $6.50 (BLT Sand witch +fries ) to $9+
- It comes with free tortilla chip and salsa appetizer. (the salsa is excellent)
- Cozy and comforter leather seat.
- The Torta steak is good, tender and not some cheap steak.
Con:
-No outside windows, first time might think hit is bar or nightclub.
-Only 2 small TV, and they are old fashion fat one, they really need to upgrade their TV.
- Restroom is not too clean, despite need some work.
- The torta bread is mediocre, the side salad are not good, tasted like those McDonald 99 cents one.
Is really a 3 1/2 stars, but since yelp can't gave 1/2 star, i gave them 4 star, the steak meat quality and the free chips with the awesome salsa outweigh. the bad side salad This place is know for their affordable Margarita, did not try since I has goes back to work.
Updated, check my credit statement, they lie about the charge, i thought they gonna fix the error but didn't. Paid their cash not credit card. -

Pasadena, CA
My co-workers and I have been coming to this restaurant for years. Besides the proximity of our work location (where eating fast is a necessity), this restaurant serves good quality food at decent prices with excellent service.
I always get the Chicken Mole plate. Portions are large and the chicken has always been flavorful and tender. My co-worker always gets the steak burrito, which is satisfyingly large and well made. We have also gotten the beef nachos, which is a mountain of chips, cheese, beef, beans, salsa and takes at least three people to finish. A couple of weeks ago my daughter ordered a bowl of chicken soup, which probably has been one of the tastiest bowls of soup ever. Thick chunks of white chicken meat in a light chicken broth with large cuts of carrots, onions, celery and squash.
Again, service has always been fantastic and the food is prepared quickly. I can't speak for the bar or the drinks, I haven't been there yet, but the food at Amigo's is great!! -

Review from Kevin K.
Came here on a friday night, it was pretty dead with a couple sitting down at one table and someone at the bar. Even with an empty place it still took forever to get help from our waiter. The food however did come out very quickly on a extremely large plate. We were pretty hungry and both unable to finish out food. I was looking forward to having some good spanish rice but the rice that came with my dish was extremely dry and left me disappointed. I probably wont be back to this place unless a friend wanted to try.

Good Mexican food at decent pricing for large portions... Parking in the rare and on the streets. This place is always busy during dinner time. I recommend the lunch specials. There's a large bar and a jukebox, which equals a good time.

Review from Taric W.
Phoenix, AZ
This is a review of the bar, and it's a short story about deal breakers. Having a small bar area is okay, but you've gotta know how to utilize it. You don't do that with huge, circular booths that seat less people than the actual bar area does. Having nowhere to sit is alright, but having nowhere to stand--not even a patio? That blows. Not that it was even busy enough to be so full.
But I digress. You might be wondering "Taric, tell us why you have an axe to grind with their bar?" It's because I was pretty hyped for the house margarita. I asked for it on the rocks, and glanced over as the margarita was simply poured out of the jug. At most bars, the price would get me something at least made to order, and of better tequila than some bitter well swill. I can already tell this place is questionable. -

Do you want to be drunk, and quickly? Then this is the place for you.
Came here before a movie with two friends, ordered a pitcher of margaritas, and we were all feeling it after about two sips. And thus, when the pitcher was empty, of course we thought it was a good idea to get another pitcher.
(It was not. Desperate texts to friends commenced, trying to get them to help us finish our second pitcher folly.)
Anyway, the margaritas were totally worth it and propelled many people into interesting life decisions. The food was probably just okay, but at the time tasted utterly fantastic. -

Came here a few nights ago and omg I hated it hated it wanted to go home bad service took the waitress about 30 mins ,give or take a few, to take our order kept saying she was Gonna refill our drinks yet had to ask another employe because she was taking to long but I give it 2 stars instead of one because I kind of felt bad for them since a large group of loud and obnoxious ghetto "people" came in and there were only 2 waiters/waitresses for the whole place but the ghetto pack of low lifes were extremely Loud nasty ugly hoochie thug outfits practically barking at our ears eh not coming back

Tried to rip us off with 18% for PARTY OF 5!! Drinks way too expensive, marg $8.00,
no name bourbon and 7, $8.00. THIS IS A HOLE IN THE WALL... While the food was good, the chips were not good, tasted old and bagged. Obsurd. A lot of good restaurants in the area, GO ELSEWHERE.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Deb T.
The boyfriend and I were looking for decent Mexican food within walking distance from our apartment. We usually go to La Fiesta Grande and we are sort of done with their food. Not only were the Enchiladas yummy, but I had a wonderful Chimichanga. I loved the presentation with the little Mexican flag in the rice (which was equally delicious). We are definitely going to go back since the food is great and the prices are affordable. One tip: there is a tiny, tiny parking lot so be prepared to park on the street and walk a little, if necessary.

Wow, super service and super fast. I was there about 2 hours ago. It took 5 minutes to seat me, 5 minutes to get my Cadillac margarita (tasted great), chips and salsa, and less than 10 minutes to get my steak burrito. The burrito was delicious and service was great. Definitely recommend this place!!

Came in here hungry for some Mexican food and definitely didn't leave disappointed! This place provides fresh chips and salsa which is always a plus in my book.
I started off with a strawberry margarita which was strong and delicious at the same time! They have several other fruity flavors and my friends got the mango margarita which was equally as good ,they say.
For food I ordered the chicken chimichunga, which was huge! Yummy and flavorful chicken with cheese and rice in a deep fried burrito....l mean how can you go wrong! I definitely enjoyed all of it. It came with rice and beans which were also very good. The service was good and we got our food quickly, I also enjoyed the laid back atmosphere. I would go here again and try different things on the menu. -

First things first, strong and tasty margaritas for $8!
When you get seated, they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. For food, I ordered a chimichanga, rice and beans and it was pretty good. I had came with two other people and one of them also had a chimichanga, rice and beans and the other had a taco salad and both of them said they were satisfied with their meals too.
The place has a mom and pop kind of feel and the crowd is pretty diverse. The service is pretty good and the waiters are friendly as well. -

My hubby and I went here for a Saturday afternoon refreshment and to get the latest college football updates.
Lorena was behind the bar and is a very nice and personable person. Enjoyed pleasant conversations with the other patrons. He ordered a beer, I got a margarita. Whoa, now that's a margarita! She was very generous with the tequila. I'm not a drinker, so I had to pace myself. Still a bit thirsty, I decided to have another - bad idea (for me at least). The second one knocked me on my ass! I was done for the rest of the day And night! What can I say, I'm'a light-weight. LOL!
I'll go back for the food next time, but will order just one margarita. :)
I only gave 4 stars because I didn't expect to get drunk off of two drinks. -

I went here with a friend last week for a late dinner and drinks, loved it! It's not much to look at, but the service was great and I really enjoyed my meal. We started with Margaritas that are silly strong. It felt like I was drinking straight from a bottle of tequila! I had the carne asada taco meal and it was absolutely delicious. This place is relatively inexpensive and yummy. The added bonus is it's located right across the street from a movie theater, which is where we went to sober up!

This place is as good as it gets!!! I really believe that this place has the best mexican food I ever had!
NOTE: when they bring you the salsa & chips, Ask for their salsa with habanero. It will Blow your mind and mouth off.
We came here and two things popped up. Parking. There is a tiny lot in the back with prob 5 spots, so the rest of us need to park on the street. Another thing is when I walked in, It was kind of dark, and the seats needed fixing. Not fancy at all. I ordered the Chimichangas, and OMG it was sooo good! I got the strawberry Margarita with Vodka, and it was super sweet and strong. Loved it. Next thing I know, I started to come here A LOT. One of my best friends told me that he knew about this hidden gem, and didnt tell me for years cause he thought I already knew about this place!! Hate him. I can honestly say by far that this place has the best Mexican food & margaritas I ever had to date! -

Good solid Mexican food. Came here for lunch with coworkers and I would definitely come back without hesitation. For four of us we had two pitchers of Cadillac Margarita's and they were good and strong. Each pitcher worked out to be a glass for each of us. I had the carnitas sopes and the carnitas (which I am very picky about) were juicy and flavorful. The chips and salsa were spot on too. It's everything you could ask for in a Mexican restaurant.

After first discovering this place, I must admit, I have become somewhat of a regular here on Friday evenings. Sometimes I'll grab food, probably the best Mexican food I've ever had, but I will always grab a few margaritas on the rocks, salt. What better way to end the work week/start the weekend? The bartenders, and the entire atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. I love this place.

Amigo's is like the Cheers of Mexican cantinas. It's a neighborhood joint with a strong local vibe. You don't go out of your way to come here unless you're in the area.
That being said, I finally made a venture here last night while sober. My past experiences have been in a desperate search for food so that I could get back to equilibrium. Open until midnight, it's a good option for late night eats, especially for sit down restaurants in this area, where most of the open eateries past 10 pm are fast food.
The food is your average Mexican fair. Fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, chimichangas, etc. You name it, it's there. The portions are generous and large enough to feed two. The margaritas take generous to a whole other level. They don't mess around with these drinks, and pours are heavy handed enough to do the job after just a few. -

First time i went to this restaurant to celebrate my son in law birthday. I really like it . The atmosphere was nice. They have a variety of mexican dishes, i got enchiladas , i got plenty of food, so i took left overs home. The margaritas are good, but i like better the ones in Acapulco restaurant, i could go back again.

amigo's makes me feel so ambivalent.
some of their items like their fresh guacamole, spicy salsa, super-moist tamale shells (masa), garlic-flavored spanish rice, and refried beans are five-star quality.
others things like their kinda stale chips, rancid oil in their deep-fryer (which made for a nasty chile relleno), boiled flavorless chunks of pork, and overuse of cheese got me thinking two stars.
but the few excellent items on the menu and super-friendly service make this place worth it. not my first choice for a meal but when there are slim-pickings, it sure beats the hell outta fast food.... -

MARGARITAS! Amigo's has amazing $8 margaritas, it honestly doesn't get better than that ( Dona Rosa's $2 margaritas are incredibly disgusting compared to Amigo's).
Although I'm not a huge fan of their food. I recently tried their cheese quesadilla and it was too greasy for my liking. I can't really comment on the rest of their menu items as I happen to be a Mexican who dislikes Mexican food (I know right?). Anyways, their chips and salsa are a must try! -
Review from Dave A.
Pasadena, CA
This is THE Mexican Restaurant to be at. Although my friends come here usually for good drinks, we have tried their food. Food is not amazing, but it's good. Authentic. It'd be nice if they prepared it a better way. For example if the Chicken and Steak Quesadillas were less greasy or if they cleaned the shrimp before putting them in your shrimp cocktail. The give you tortilla chips and salsa with whatever you get which is good because the salsa is really good. I am also a fan of their guacamole. It's prepared like I would've made it at home.
The highlight of this Restaurant, in my opinion, has to be the margaritas. Prepared on the rocks (Really strong) or blended with a variety of flavors. They cost about $8 but are big. I have so many good times here because it's not located in an are that's really busy. Parking lot is small but you should find plenty of parking on the streets.
You'll find me here on Sunday nights! -

Review from Wayne H.
An upstanding neighborhood joint - friendly people, large portions and very special margaritas.
One can expect to spend around $13 or more per dinner entree, excluding beverage. If you enjoy shrimps, I recommend the Crystal's special.
Their margarita is unlike any I've sampled elsewhere, by that I mean there's, I think, a sedative quality to it. Try to keep under two glasses if you intend to drive afterwards. -

My fiance' and I go here weeknights for a late night outing and always are pleased.
We were here last night and the waiter suggested their Cadillac Margarita (which I had not previously tried but am glad I did!!!)
DAMN! It didn't taste strong or overly tequila'd it was yummy. However, after drinking about 1/3 of this potent drink I was flying high and feeling loose!!!
Lets just say...we had a great time during and AFTER Amigo's. Their food is good, Camarones A La Diabla is VERY good and their chicken quesadilla appetizer can serve as a full meal.
