Oh man, I've been called weird, but I love getting my teeth cleaned! And this is the probably the best place to do so!
I switched over to Dr. Amidi when my childhood dentist retired, and another person took over his practice. The other dentist was horrible, and I had to resort to yelp to find a new one. At first I was pretty skeptical of finding a dentist on yelp, but I really had no choice since none of my friends seem to like their dentists.
Dr. Amidi and her dental techs are so personable. They are so nice and very considerate. One thing that works best for me is that they are open on Saturdays!! I live in San Jose, and I work in San Francisco. This makes it hard for me to go to appointments, so when places are open on Saturdays, it helps me out a lots because then I don't have to miss work. Dr. Amidi will always find ways to fit you in. Sometimes, I even came in during lunch when I used to work in the South bay.
Dr. Amidi is probably not the typical dentist. She doesn't mind stepping in to clean people's teeth if a tech is not available. My other dentist didn't do that. He was strictly there to inspect after my teeth were cleaned, so my cleanings would take longer. I feel like I go in and then right out with Dr. Amidi without feeling cheated.
This place a bit small, but very clean and everything is so high tech! I totally recommend this place. Even if you don't like dentists, I bet Dr. Amidi and her staff can change that even it its slowly but surely! -

Definitely the best dentist I've ever had.
After a year of not seeing a dentist (due to awful experiences with my previous dentist), I decided to give Amidi a try based on their Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed.
The office was impeccable, the staff very helpful and friendly, and the experience was actually enjoyable for once.
From someone who has had repeated bad experiences from dentist offices I cannot recommend Amidi high enough. Give them a try, you wont be disappointed. -

Dr. Amidi is fantastic -- I've moved around a lot and have gone to several different dentists and Dr. Amidi has been (hands down) my favorite. The cleanings are thorough but also gentle, and I always feel welcome when I come into the office. Hands down fantastic experiences every time.

This dental office is tucked into the El Monte shopping area between the CVS and Chipotle. Inside the offices are professional clean and very modern. Just got my teeth cleaned here and great experience! Would definitely recommend it.

I'm not sure what all the other complaints are about: no one was ever condescending to me. In fact they were quite the opposite and it was one of my more pleasurable experiences at the dentist. The hygienist, Leila, was both sweet and professional (and complimented my teeth!). Dr. Amidi is very nice as well and was very clear in explaining what was going on. I had no problems with scheduling or my insurance, and they gave me a pretty awesome set of goodies to keep my teeth clean for the next 6 months.

I had an awful experience with a deep cleaning at another Mountain View dentist... it was so bad that on the third visit I was crying when I left. I could not force myself to go back to finish, so I went to Dr. Amidi to do the forth and final visit.
I was terrified, but the experience was incredibly different. Dr. Amidi really knows her needles. She gave me three small shots on the gum line instead of in my jaw and the shots were over quickly and didn't hurt much. Sooooo different than the other dentist who kept stabbing me deeply with a needle. The entire side of my head didn't go numb... it did twice at the other dentist. The deep cleaning itself was actually pleasant in a weird way. I felt like I was getting a gum massage.
I cried when I left the last dentist because it was the worst dental experience in my life. I wanted to cry when I left Dr. Amidi's office because it was one of the best dental experiences in my life.
My cleanings at both offices were within a month, so my memory for good and bad is quite fresh. -

Honestly, no one likes going to the dentist. I've put off going to the dentist long enough that my self-consciousness for plaque and potential gingivitis finally won and I went to Amidi Dental.
Gone are the days of double-booked dentist appointments. Dr. Amidi does NOT double-book and I was seen immediately upon arriving at my appointment time.
During my first visit, Karen, the hygienist took my x-rays and did my cleaning. She took care of me and I didn't feel a thing -- it was honestly the best cleaning experience I've ever had. My teeth was nicely polished at the end of the appointment. I was in and out in less than 1 hour. Dr. Amidi spoke to me about a few issues and I was scheduled to come back in 2 weeks. The receptionist gave me an estimated bill and explained what each charge was for.
During my next appointment, Dr. Amidi was very gentle. She answered my questions and took care of all my concerns. She made sure that I was comfortable the entire time and walked me through the entire procedure. I am a big wuss and truth be told, Dr. Amidi made everything pain-free. Together with her assistant, Chris, I had a pleasurable experience.
Thank you, Dr. Amidi for restoring my faith in Dentistry. I'll make sure to visit every six months for my regular check-up and cleaning! -

Amidi dental gets 5 stars because 6 isn't an option :-)...
I showed up there at 8 am a day after X-mas expecting to be seen for the 1st time for cleaning, X-rays etc..They couldn't find me in the books (turns out that I showed up at the wrong dentist!) , but still took me in! (they even trusted me with no ID or insurance card :-))....Dr Amidi was the gentlest, most knowledgeable and least 'selly' Dentist I've ever been to, the place is sparkling clean and new and all of her equipment is top of the line (thing like X-ray machine that's easy on the patient's mouth, a camera and instant teeth pictures on a computer used for illustration really do make a difference).. I needed some work done and it was done in the most painless manner I could fathom. Definitely I found my new dentist -

Dr. Amidi and her team are really fantastic! I was a bit wary when I first went, but I've been going to her for 2 years, and I really like them. They are friendly, the equipment is cutting edge, and Dr. Amidi knows what she is doing. I would recommend friends go here. :)

Well, I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. I am looking for a professional doctor who will take care of my oral health and take me seriously as a patient. The visits to this dental office felt more like I was at a cosmetic salon. Not necessarily a bad thing, but not what I'm looking for.
Pros: Very friendly doctor! Ok, a little too friendly for my taste. A lot of "honeys" and "sweeties," which I'm not really a fan of. But still, can't say she's not friendly! :-) The office seemed very clean, and it seemed as if they have invested in up-to-date equipment. Also: I didn't have insurance, and she gave me a huge discount because of it! Yey! Oh, and the receptionist was awesome: friendly, efficient, always easy to get a hold of.
Cons: Plays into the whole super-friendly attitude: I didn't feel like I was taken seriously as an intelligent, adult patient. Honestly, I felt like I was treated like a child. I do want to feel comfortable at a dentist office, but I don't want to be treated in an infantile manner. I couldn't get any serious explanations and answers to the questions I had. It was more along the lines: it will all be ok, honeybunch, now don't you worry about it. :-) The doctor mentioned that many staff members were former Kindergarten teachers, or something like that. Makes sense, and shows. So, maybe a good place to take your kids, or to go to if you really feel like being cuddled & mothered. :-)
And....I have to add this last point just to be completely honest about my reasons why I was somewhat turned off by this dental office: The fact that the doctor always wore 4-inch heels and a party outfit was just a little weird. :-) I know, I know, who cares what she wears, right? So on my first visit, I noticed the outfit and just though: oh, she must have an event to go to after work. But my subsequent visits showed that that's her standard work attire. Although I am completely aware that this is a very irrational judgement, I just honestly have to admit that I can't take a doctor in 4-inch heels seriously! I want my doctor to wear those ugly white shoes! -

Hi this is based on my wife's experience and my wallet's subsequent experience.
Service was fine...no complaints there.
However, I recommend you to check your bill. So they don't take Amex, so they instead gave a bill to my wife and she brings it home. The bill is a legitimate price breakdown (insurance/you/etc) but they manually wrote in some price additions. I was suspicious since I've never received any quote or bill with penciled-in "additions." Anyways, I called and Amidi said it was something to do with higher service (more cosmetic) than the insurance would cover I called my insurance and they say that all things should be clearly accounted for on the bill and not "written in." Of course, they told me to go to the doc and get more info.
So I decided to wait for the official bill from the doctor and from my insurance. First, the cosmetic is accounted for by the dental insurance companies where they only cover the base cost of the alternative base procedure. Good thing I waited because the bill was lower (even accounting for the extra more cosmetic-oriented stuff). And guess what, Amidi still read the bill wrong even though the insurance copy clearly states "Patient Responsibility" amount. I called and they noted the mistake.
All I can say is, you should wait for your real bill which includes the breakdown of what the insurance will pay and what you will pay. By doing that, I saved $70 instead of just being "so-happy-with-the-service-I'll-pay-immediately" mode.
Also Amidi apparently only provides the higher cost, cosmetic version of the treatment. The insurance only covers the base part of the procedure and then lets the patient pick up the additional $ amount they consider cosmetic. I REALLY think they should let the patient choose the option of normal or cosmetic. The job they did was for the back part of the teeth--do you really need the cosmetic version for that???
So, enjoy your treatment but wait for the bill and compare it against the insurance's statement of coverage. Your $ is more valuable in this economy! -

I had a cracked filling which was not causing me any discomfort whatsoever except for the fact that my floss is catching. Surely, debris will get in the crack and cause problems eventually. So I decided to get it fixed before it becomes a problem.
Naturally, I turned to Yelp. Searched for dentist nearby and found good reviews on this one.
I called and was told that first I needed to schedule a full cleaning, exam, and xrays. OK, fine. I'm not in any pain so I'm not rushing and I like getting my teeth cleaned so no complaints. Then I was told that the filling can be repaired but I should eventually get a crown. Fine. About a week or so after the cleaning, I scheduled for the repair.
To be fair, I will also mention the good points first:
The office is very clean and modern. All staff are very friendly. I concur with another reviewer that maybe a little too friendly. It was great that they accommodate the warm water during cleaning. Also, they make sure that they minimize or eliminate any pain from your dental visits.
After the repair:
When the local anesthesia wore off, I was experiencing sensitivity as if cold air was hitting some nerves. Next day, I was chewing and it was uncomfortable. I couldn't bite down much.
I went back and I said that there's something wrong. I was sent away with disensitizing paste and to check back in a week. It has not helped much. Now I'm not sure what to do!!!? I'm even afraid to go back and say that the problem persists. I feel as though I won't be taken seriously again. What else after disensitizing? I'll be told that "oh you really need to get the crown now".
I'm tempted to just go to another dentist and have it fixed. But at the same time, I want to be fair and give this dentist a chance to show that she even cares at all and fix this problem. Will she or will I end up with more issues? This is extremely frustrating!! -

Dr Amidi was great. The office looks new (dunno if it is, but it *looks* it.) They have this fabulous x-ray machine that moved around my head, so easy!
Her staff were pleasant and efficient. No one mentioned cosmetic anything until I asked. (unlike some places that push the whitening on you even when you don't need it)
I've had some very very bad dental experiences in the past, and was almost shaking with fear as I first sat down. But she was very sweet, very calm and gentle, explaining everything. She often stopped to ask if I was okay.
It's the little things - like giving me a color option on my new toothbrush (she didn't have purple, but I got blue!) - that will keep me coming back. -

Dr. Amidi and her staff are very professional, easy going, and helpful. The overall experience was painless, efficient, and very easy.
The location is a little tricky to find if you haven't been around the area before... it's right next to a Boston Market (I think) and Longs Drugs. But don't be turned off by that. It's a totally normal -- and pretty hip -- little dental office.
I went in for a normal checkup after not being to the dentist for a few years. The equipment seems new and high tech. I was able to see my x-rays instantly on the screen next to the chair I was in. Dr. Amidi explained that I had three cavities and made it very clear where they were using the x-rays, so I had no doubts whatsoever.
A few weeks later I came in for the actual cavity filling process. Everything was very smooth. I almost fell asleep on the chair even as she was drilling away at my teeth. Maybe a lot has changed since my last dentist, but Dr. Amidi's numbing shots seemed very local to the tooth and worked very well. In the past I have had to get three shots just to get numb enough. She seems very well trained and, as another person said, she doesn't pressure you into getting unnecessary work done.
Overall, a great dentist. I'll be back in 6 months. -

Dr. Amidi is friendly, thorough, and patient. She is reassuring, is open about options but still clearly lays out her experienced opinion and what she would do if she was in your situation.
I have crowns, cavities and all manner of issues keeping my teeth healthy and Dr. Amidi stays on top of the situation. She remembers who I am and the types of procedures I have come in for previously.
The office is clean and made to be soothing / calming and orderly. They return my calls, call me before my appointments. I have recommended her to a number of friends. :) -

I went in to Amidi Dental for my 6 month follow-up on Tuesday. I forgot about the appointment, but luckily the dental office notified me one week before by email and one day before by telephone.
As usual, the visit was very pleasant. Laila performed a thorough general cleaning and Dr. Amidi checked her work and performed an overview. I will definitely see them again in 6 months. My experience with Dr. Amidi was definately a positive experience . . . as a british expat, I have an irrational fear of dentists, and generally dread the check ups, cleanings, drills, and entire dental experience. As is usually the case, it took a dental emergency to bring me to a dental office . . . her calm, reassuring demeaning helped to put me at ease. I also appreciated her honesty, and straight forward approach to dentistry - I tend to be a little distrustful of dentists after many a bad experience, but I could tell that she is ethical and open when it comes to services required. Although she did not yet feel experienced enough to take me on as a regular patient (cheers TMJ!), she referred me to a dentist she felt would be a better match for my particular needs.
She is also the first dentist to point out something positive about my teeth, which made me very, very happy. -

This is the nicest dental office I've ever been to! When you walk in its very modern, bright, clean, open, and everything looks brand new. This certainly is not like all the other typical stuffy little dental offices!
The staff is friendly and make me feel comfortable. I've had my teeth cleaned by Karen and Laila, and both did a really good job, very gentle, and it didn't hurt!
Dr Amidi is so nice, and really cares about her patients, I don't feel like shes rushing through my appointment to get to another patient. She takes the time and explains anything you have questions about. This is really a great place, I'm so happy I found Amidi dental! -

Dr. Amidi is the best dentist I have ever met. She is patient, easy-going, and most importantly really care what you feel.
I'm not a native speaker, so at first I try to find some dentist in bay area who can speak in my mother tongue. I search around the web and asked my countryman to give me some suggestion. All the dentist I met was "business" guy. They treat me as an product, and try to convince me to pull out my teeth by offering me the lowest price. What the hell it is..... I always here the words like "I can give you a discount since we came from the same country" or " Let me help you, you are not native speaker, and you will get into big trouble if you have a dentist not speaking our language...".
I search the yelp and I found Dr. Amidi. I wonder at first whether the language will be a problem. Nevertheless, NOT AT ALL. She is so nice and perfect in skill, and patient plus enthusiastic. I don't mind at all to pay extra money for her treatment. She deserved it. She care what I feel and do care what's happen in my teeth, and explain the cause and treatment I may adapt next step. Discussing with me in details with pen and black board, using state-of-the-art equipment to show X-ray to me. I feel that I'm involved in the treatment but not sit there, waiting for trial.
I will recommend her without any reservation. Even if you are not fluent in English, you should still try her. Don't buy the rumor that everyone should talk to a dentist speaking the same mother tongue. She is so popular and you have to wait a week to see her, but good quality worth waiting. If you go there, don't hesitate to tell her you are recommend by someone. She will feel very happy and gratified. -

A good experience. No one ever writes that they had a great time at the dentist, no one you should believe anyhow.
So in keeping with the Yelp tradition, and my open and honest opinions of the venues I have frequented in our beloved Silicon Valley I would have to say I was impressed with Dr. Amidi Dental.
I had an appointment on Saturday with Dr. Amidi at her Mountain View practice. I was delighted by her space, modern and bright, different than my previous dentists who still had brown leather chairs and copies of National Geographic published during the Cold War.
Back to Dr. Amidi, her staff was friendly, the questionaire was a bit extensive, but that's nothing new. Her equipment and actual procedure space was very state of the art, new, and very clean.
Dr. Amidi as a dentist and hygenist, I found to be gentle and not painful like other experiences. This is the way a dentist should be. I'll be seeing her in a few weeks for a filling so well see how round 2 goes. -

I had been putting off visiting a dentist after I moved from Hawaii 6 years ago, but my gum started to bleed recently, and I have finally visited a dentist, Dr. Amidi, last week.
It was a stormy day, and I was over 30 minutes late for my appointment. I was afraid that I was going to get turned away, but Dr. Amidi and her staffs gave me a very friendly greeting, and saw me right away.
The office is neat and clean, with the latest dental equipments. I had my teeth deep cleaned by one of Dr. Amidi's assistants, and had a wonderful experience. Sorry...I forgot her name...but anyway, she was gental and patient. The ultrasonic scaler she used was great too!

Yesterday, I received a card from the dentist in the mail. They thanked me for trying them out, and got a $25 certificate good for any service. This is great! -

Just got back from the dentist and cannot believe I am excited to write a review about a dentist. As explained by many other reviewers - she's thorough, kind, has competent staff, facilities are clean, new, xrays were amazingly easy and super FAST (instant).
I brought my ten year old for her appointment as well and she was even amazed.
My daughter's future appointment was explained in detail including my cost (what my insurance will not pay, etc.).
I am extremely impressed and I consider myself very hard to please. -

Based on the excellent reviews here, I decided to try Dr. Amidi. When I made the appointment I told them I wanted just a cleaning. I did not want x-rays or an exam until I was sure I was becoming a patient. Layla, the hygienist, was absolutely super. Probably the best cleaning I have ever had! She's the only reason I've even given them two stars. Dr. Amidi came to say hello.
1. When I got the bill I saw that they charged my insurance for cleaning AND an exam, which I never had. I called the office and explained the error. Oh sorry, the accountant made a "mistake". Fine I'll give them the benefit of doubt.
2. Secondly, since my insurance had already paid Amidi for the full amount (cleaning + exam) Amidi said they would return the extra amount paid (for the exam) to the insurance. As of today (two months later), the insurance has not received the payment back, although the statement Amidi sent me indicated the amount was "written off" -- whatever that means.
3. Thirdly, due to an error on the part of my insurance, they overpaid Amidi by $50 (which was my deductible). I requested Amidi to refund my insurance the $50, and instead bill me for the deductible. So Amidi billed me for $50, and less than a week later, called to say that they have still not received my payment - apparently they would not refund the insurance company unless they first received the $50 from me.
Never has any office called to ask for payment in under a week, and for a sum as paltry as $50. I would urge you to look at your bill closely in case similar "errors" are made. As a couple of people here have mentioned, their billing is perhaps not the most accurate. Far too often, I've come across medical offices that bill erroneously. Because of this, we are all paying the price. So my search for a dentist continues... -

I needed a new dentist, looked on Yelp, and saw that Dr. Amidi had about the highest rating in my area. So I called and made an appointment for cleaning.
I just got done with my appointment today, and here are my thoughts:
- She was great! Unhurried. Passionate about teeth!
- She did a great job on the cleaning. My teeth look and feel clean.

Dr. Amidi and her staff are the kindest medical professionals I've ever come across. I went her after reading the Yelp reviews.
I have an intense fear of Dentists due to bad experiences as a child. This fear has led to a lot of issues with my teeth. Dr. Amidi's calming demeanor took me from near panic attack to calm and comfortable within a few minutes. She made me feel at ease and even eager to return to finish the work.
There are not enough kind words for Dr. Amidi and her staff.

Until last year, I hadn't been to the dentist in 9 years. I really hate going to the dentist and always find excuses. Dr. Amidi's dental office has completely changed my mind.
Of course because of my long layoff, I need a lot of work, so I've been there about 5 times already in the past 6 months. They are great, they do good work, they are very friendly, the office is really nice and modern. They also do a good job working with you to maximize your dental benefits. Other benefits are the location, parking is easy and they have pretty good hours.
I'm sure Dr. Amidi will be my dentist for a long time, hopefully just for twice yearly cleanings though, now that she's got me back to flossing. -

Have been going here for about 3 years now. All my teeth are in such better shape. Maryam Amidi cares. That's what I like about this place. I also enjoy the fact that she doesn't overly recommend stuff. I appreciated the fact they could get me in "next day" when my crown fell off - when I was flossing - of all things! It wasn't really emergency, as I got it back on myself. Thanks Amidi and staff.

I had really bad individual ppo insurane a couple of years ago when a family friend ref. me to Dr. Amidi. I was primarily looking for a dentist in my network but unfortunatley she was out of netwrok with BC PPO. I still decided to go in and make an appointment because our family friend does business with her she came highly reccomended by her. It was easy to make an appointment right away, their staff was very friendly and I had explained that I am a part time student and if I could get accomedated somehow if I see Dr. Amidi with my sucky insurance. I came in for my first appointment and you know they did everything routinley and Dr. Amidi personally told me that she would give me a discount and was very generous about it too. After that apooointment I have been going in regularlly for my routine check ups. Now that I have new insurance and she is in network it makes it 10x better because I love coming in to such a friendly enviroment. A comment regarding the envirmoent was too friendly and about the dr. heels sounds to me theyre just trying to complain about something just to complain. I work at a doctors office and the things that patients look for in an office are that the office is friendly, reliable, they listen, efficiancy, and overall I see it as if the DR. is doing their job and you left satisfied then they accomlpished in their work/business ethicacy so shoes shouldnt matter. Every person has their own style and if yu think its inapproraite then don't return! All in all I highly reccomend Dr. Amidi and their staff. :-)

The office is very clean and modern. I feel like every time I come in here, they have some new state-of-the-art thing that makes the experience better. The staff and doctors are patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. They aren't too pushy either, which I appreciate. I highly recommend this place. -

I've been cursed with Bad Teeth. Despite the best dentristry and orthodontry America has to offer during my youth and multiple brushing/flossing sessions with a Sonicare daily, cavities find me like flies to a swamp. Let's say I visit the dentist more often than most.
I give five stars for an excellent, considerate and kind dentist with an efficient and helpful staff. She has a great hygenist and everyone I've interacted with there has been wonderful. Plus, the best endorsement: I've been new-cavity free since starting to see her last year! -

Simply the best. You might question my trekking 45 minutes south for dental appointments, but once you visit Amidi Dental you'll completely understand. When you find a dentist who's as compassionate as she is competent, you've struck gold - and that's exactly what you get with Dr. Amidi. This dentist and her hygienists are the sweetest professionals you'll find - and the care they take with children has always impressed me. Moreover, I've never been less than totally happy with Dr. Amidi's work in 3+ years. I have a history of terrible teeth and crowns that just wouldn't last - but changing dentists has made an enormous difference. Take it from someone who knows the value of a great dentist - this is the best place around.

They never call me back if I leave a message wanting to schedule an appointment. I have tried to leave a message several times to schedule, but no one ever calls back. Amidi is a okay Dentist.

So next appointment done!! One "black hole of neediness" in my mouth attended to and two fillings for my daughter with a third chucked in for free, just cos' Dr. Armidi wanted to improve her smile - she built up one of her front teeth. Again, completely and utterly painless and fast - even the assistants here are bloody good - none of that sucking holes out of my tongue with the suction pipe or drowning me with misplaced little trickles of water. I can barely express how much I love this dentist.

No complaints here - I was able to get an appointment quickly, the staff is very friendly, Dr. Amidi was thorough and efficient. I needed a new dentist and I'm glad I've found Dr. Amidi!

I went to Dr. Amidi primarily because she was covered by my insurance and highly rated on Yelp... now that my insurance has changed, she is no longer a preferred provider, but I am seriously thinking of staying with her because she is THAT good. She has a very good bedside manner that makes me feel better, even when painful moments happen- let's face it, cleanings are never pleasant, but Dr. Amidi's empathy, commitment to quality, and concern for my comfort as a patient really helped to make up for the momentary discomfort of being under the drill. If her prices are fair compared to other dentists in the area, I think I'll forego the 10% benefit of choosing an in-network doctor and stay with her. She makes me feel comfortable, which is so important in a dentist.

I would not normally review a dentist, but I have been living in Los Altos for 5 year and finally found someone I like. It is located in a strip mall off El Camino and I love Amidi. Clean, friendly, looking out for what's best.
In contrast to the comment re: the bill....I had an experience where Dr. Amidi offered to do the 'cheap' option on a chipped tooth knowing that the 'right' option would be painful, costly and not really do much better to improve my look than the patch option. I am hooked.
