We ducked into the new Amicis location off Wadsworth last night.
Walking in from the cold we got blasted with that awesome warm and comforting smell of Italian food.
They have a huge menu along with daily specials. This time around we tried the pasta for 2 option. For roughly 20 bucks you can choose 2 pastas, 4 meatballs or sausage. You get soup/salad and bread. We got the rigatoni and ravioli with meatballs. Both were reaaaaally good. The meatballs looked handmade to me. (all different sizes and shapes)
One oddity was that they had no caesar salad.
Overall the food was excellent and the special is hard to beat.
Love it!
Eat here on every vacation out to Denver to watch my Broncos!
Went here for the first time a couple of nights ago, and it was absolutely fantastic Italian. I ordered a salad with italian dressing, and the dressing was definitely homemade, olive oil, vinegar, and just some spices, which was absolutely fantastic! I also got a calzone type of meal, stuffed with italian sausage and green chilies with cheese. It was mouthwatering. It's now my definite italian restaurant of choice.
Amici's has great italian food, everything there is good. Soup, salad, the pizza, homemade pasta is awesome.
My mom even likes this place and considering she usually only likes her italian food has to say something.
Another plus is that they are moving to another location, the area that they were in right now is kinda run down so look for the new place to be opening soon off of 44th and wadsworth.
Last tip- They only accept cash or checks!!
Amici's has a great lunch special. Six bucks will get you an iced tea (or coffee), a salad and a very large portion of whatever the special of the day happens to be. I got the deep fried canolli with sausage and peppers( the other options were spaghetti with meatballs or the deep fried canolli with meatballs.) It was heavenly.
We had to wait for about 10 minutes to get a table. The place is busy!
This establishment has been here for a long time. And you can really tell from the numerous people who seem to be regulars there. It's a quaint slightly dark little cozy where you can enjoy some home-made pasta or pizza. They always have some decoration up for the holidays whether it's back to school (during which there will be little boxes of crayons and pencils hanging from the ceiling) to thanksgiving (turkeys and pumpkins everywhere).
A favorite here would have to the their salads, the dressing is made there and they smother the whole thing in mozzerella and pepperoni. They also serve the biggest cannoli I've ever seen which has like 3 meatballs and two sausages and is about the size of a football. I've only seen one person take on such a task and though he finished it, it didn't sit very well..... As for their pasta, I know at least their spaghetti noddles are made there. Unfortunatly I'm not very much of a fan of the very thick, slightly doughy texture.
It's worth attempting to go there once just for the salad.
Since I only get to spend 1-2 weeks a year in Colorado, I work in California, this restaurant is a must when I'm in town. It's also easy to stop by there on the way from DIA. I always get the cheese raviolis with the house salad- yum! Just be fore warned they don't accept credit cards.
If you love cheese, you'll love Amicis pizza. I think every slice has like 3 pounds of cheese on it.
Personally, I don't like cheese that much...
Italian in Arvada? Yes siree Bob-o. This is a family-style Italian restaurant that seems to always be themed for the current season. The waitresses are friendly and be prepared to say, "Can I have a box?" at the end of your meal.
Not to say that big portions correlate to blandness in anyway for this restaurant's dishes. No, these home-style dishes are just like mom used to make. I recommend the Pizza and the Canole!
The only drawback to Amici's is that they only accept Cash/Check.
This is the prototypical Denver italian restaurant. Not "Italy" italian style but like the great food that your italian neighbor's mom used to make. This is definitely a family friendly place that has been around for years. Homemade 1/2 and 1/2 with a meatball and a sausage was my standard order for years. I'm also addicted to the vinegary italian dressing that twenty years ago I thought was too vinegary (yeah I been eating here at least that long). I think I've tried everything on the menu over the years and haven't found a dud yet. If you think you can eat a lot go for the multi meat canoli (pretty ridiculous amount of food). By the way, the waitresses here are as pretty as they are good at what they do.
My family has been going here for decades and it's still my favorite. To start, they have the best, super fresh baked bread and you can dip it in the most amazing salad dressing ever. It is very vinegary but I love it. I order the cheese raviolis with meatballs and it is sheer bliss. I enjoy their red sauce because it is plain and I love the no frills approach. It doesn't desire to be anything else and I enjoy that. My mouth is watering as I type. For dessert, they have fried pizza dough covered in sugar which is spectacular.
Everybody talks about how good Amicis is and I guess for me I was suprised to find that their sauce is as close to tomato sauce as you can get without calling it tomato sauce. I prefer Italian with a bit more taste. Then the salads are iceburge lettuce with salad dressing. As for the pizza's my grandson was happy. But then he doesn't like food that has much taste.
