    * Love that thin crust pizza *

You get your choice and I always go for the extra thin crust pizza. If you're looking for the other extreme (stuffed pizza), Windy City Pizza (also in Sam Mateo) is the way to go.

    Greasy. Salty toppings. Bland crust.

    Doesn't do NY Pizza justice.

I *want* to like this pizza, but I just can't.  It's bland, and I have tried it 4-5 times at least.  It's just blah.  The crust has no taste, the toppings are so sparse that they lend no help to the matter.  The spinach salad is not too bad as an alternative to the pizza and the soups are ok.  They use a lot of garlic here in the pastas.

Now that I have other options, I am done with Amici's.

    Friendly staff.

I have had pizza like this on the East Coast, but Amici's is not in the same league as Papa Gino's.  I will continue searching in the darkness that is California for adequate pizza.

Amici's was pricey and still lacked sufficient sauce, so it wasn't worth the higher price.  Domino's is cheaper.

Used to be a fan of this place, but as of the last couple of years it has been a big disappointment with the quality of food as well as the lack of service. Food was a bit on the greasy side & the waitress we had definitely needed an attitude adjustment. It was like she was doing us a favor serving us going thru the motions. I now times are tough, but for christ sake hire more help at certain times, so  when the place is 3/4 full people are not kept waiting & food comes out lukewarm as well as greasy enough to wax my car with.

New York (or East Coast, not sure if there's a difference) is not my favorite style of pizza. That being said, Amici's does a fair job for that style. I just feel like I need to eat way more than I would from somewhere else to get full because there's not enough substance. And the prices there are pretty steep. Work pays whenever I have it. I wouldn't go there on my own dime.

Why do I always do this to myself. With out fail I regret going to any Italian pizza and pasta place. It is very rare to find one of a restaurant that offers something different in this capacity to separate itself from the competition. The pizza looked average but definitely to greasy for my taste. I understand the appeal is that it is New York style but I could get the same New York style else where for half the cost. Anyway that was my roommates order and only an observation of mine.

I was in the mood for pasta. I ordered the linguine with pesto and chicken. It was pretty good and the portion size was reasonable. But for $15.00 you would really hope a normal sized plate of pasta had something special going on. I could have easily made this dish at home. That is my problem with most Italian restaurants, there are no pasta dishes that could not be easily made at a cheaper cost in my kitchen. Their pasta menu was built on a lot of pastas and sauces that could easily be found in the local super market.

Maybe I'll learn my lesson and just make Italian dinners at home or really splurge for a really fancy restaurant or maybe both. Who knows...All I know is Amici's was not for me

Another work lunch with Amici's supplying the pizza and it was even worse than before. Now, I know that a good, authentic New York style pizza needs to have a bit of a char, but these babies went way beyond that yet. Yep, they were burnt.

Good thing I didn't pay for them. They would have been sent back.

One of the few places you can score a New Haven style pie. Now the only honest to goodness Connecticut pie slinger I knew of closed, so this will have to do in his memory. Clams and bacon hit the spot. The service is decent though nothing spectacular, and the prices maybe slightly higher than your average pizza joint. But again, the specialty selections are where you're going to get things you wont at other places. 3.5 stars

I spent a huge amount of money on a pizza tonight for delivery, and I just BIT INTO A ROCK. I felt some weird grainy bits that I thought were sand, and then spit out a rock, the size of a pea. I am FURIOUS. I emailed them and expect some sort of apology. I called the location and the man to whom I spoke offered to send out another pizza. Fine. BUT I WANT MY MONEY BACK! I chipped a f**king TOOTH on this rock!

If you'd like to see pictures or a video I took of the rock, message me. I will leave this review here as WARNING for others.

I've eaten here several times and never disappointed.  The pizzas and salads are great.  But the dessert....they have J M Rosen cheesecake, possibly the best NY cheesecake in the world.  So good Frank S. himself would have it flown down to him in LA.  I would come here just for the cheesecake.

Very expensive place. Two pizzas, a soup and a regular salad= 66.00 bucks! That's without the ten dollar tip. They also forgot to deliver the soup. The toppings were very SPARSE!!! Laughably sparse. Pizza is really bland and forgettable. I love pizza and will pay top dollar if it's worth it. What a joke. This place really does stink. DO NOT EAT HERE. I won't ever again.

I used to go to Amici's all the time, but my neighborhood location turned into a Thai restaurant and they have upped their prices quite a bit.

On a recent weeknight I went down to San Mateo for a work event, realizing after I arrived that it was not that night.  Fail.  I also couldn't just turn around and go back to the city because of rush hour traffic.  Double fail.

Luckily I spotted this Amici's and took myself out to dinner.  It was delicious and I got a nice dinner out of a lame situation.

Loved the Caesar Salad and thin crust wood fired pizza here!  We had a mini Margherita (no red sauce), a medium Manhattan Red Clam (loaded with clams, just the right amount of cheese and red sauce).  The casesar salad was loaded with lots of fresh crunchy croutons, freahly cut romaine, lots of freshly grated parmesan, and salty little anchovies on the side.  The thin pizza crust is amazing...  Although, I can see why some people say it can get hard to eat, but that is only if you let it sit...  NY style pizza is meant to eat hot out of the oven, so as long as you have come to chow down, the crust will be amazing throughout.

Service is fast and friendly.  There is a small indoor patio area (like a sunroom, which is a bit chillier than the main dining room.  Kind of strange being so cold indoors when it was nicely 75 degrees outside.

Not sure why there are so many bad reviews.  We loved it, and will be back.

The pizza was just OK.  I would have given 3 stars for "average".   When cost is factored in, its just not worth it.  I'm not sure whats was wrong with the pizza - it wasn't bad - I guess it could just be mediocre ingredients, or bread that was a little too stiff.   The whole pizza experience felt a little weak.  To be honest, I'm a little bit of a pizza snob, but this was so far from the doughy, mouth watering cheese dripperfic ideal of pizza I maintain that I doubt I'd order there again.  There are a lot of other options to try out in the area.

Uh...I know I know the first question must be:

Why in the world do you think you would get decent pizza outside of New York or Chicago in this hemisphere?

I submit that there is nothing that resembles pizza in California and sometimes even I make mistakes.

This incarnation of Amici's was not up to pizza standards and actually I felt it was a bit worse than other Amici's that I've visited in other locales.

The primary three reasons for my poor rating: 1) the pizzas are overly greasy...not just the natural meat greasy (yum!) but sort of swimming in it, 2) whenever I've ordered delivery the pizza comes all soggy (see number 1 for likely culprit), and 3) I just plain don't like the dough...it is quite rubbery and dissimilar to NYC pizza dough.

A couple of bright spots: 1) I'm ok with the tomato sauce...it ain't bad not wunderbar but ok and 2) the pesto sauce was also pretty decent though a tad over oily.

Granted the worst cases I've had here are delivery so perhaps at the store would receive a much better score.

I totally was a huge fan of Amici's up until today!  I was craving for their antipasto salad with their lemon basil vingeratte dressing.  I placed an order for pick up as I only have a 30minute lunch break.  I was happy that they were able to have it ready when I got there.

I took my salad back to work so I can enjoy it.  As I was mixing the dressing with the salad, I took a few bites.  I grab the next bite from the bottom of the salad and guess what I find.  A freaking DEAD FLY!!!  Yes, a DEAD FLY....GROSS!!!

Thank God I still had time on my lunch break and tell the guy I found a dead fly and I showed him that it was hanging out on a piece of lettuce...he hesitated in the beginning and started to flick at the fly and realized it is a dead fly.  He kept insisiting to give me a new salad.  NO THANKS!  I kept insiting for my money back.

Sorry Amici's, you won't have my business anymore.

So i'll be honest, I've only had like two things on the menu but I think they're worth yelping about. I've never actually eaten here and have always had takeout or delivery. I highly recommend the Caesar salad. It's delicious and garlicky and creamy and anchovy-y. If I could, I would totally just drink the dressing straight from the tub. It's that good.
For delivery I've always gotten variations of the Boston pizza (fried eggplant topping) . Kind of pricey for it given it's just one veggie topping, but I'm a sucker for fried things and eggplant. This one is really good. I've added on bacon, or roasted garlic, or green onions, and have always been very satisfied with my meal. I've had both normal crust and thin crust and can't decide which one I like better. And dipping it in their ranch dressing is kind of always a plus since I'm dipper. Amici's other pizzas all look delicious too (like the white clam, Milano, and trentino), but I haven't had the chance or desire to taste them yet since that fried eggplant just seems to be calling my name.

THIS IS A REVIEW ONLY FOR THE SALAD.

Honestly, how good can a Caesar salad be, right? Well, at Amici's it is beyond AMAZING. The best Caesar salad I have ever eaten. That's the only thing I like from this place. The pizza is eh... Good toppings, but the dough is not the best and the crust is always very difficult to chew -- very tough!

What I like about the Caesar salad:
-Fresh, crisp, and cold heart of romaine lettuce
-Nice and garlicy Caesar dressing, that's not too oilily or creamy. (maybe not the best thing to order if you're on a date)
-Super crispy croutons that are so flavorful
-Tons of freshly grated Parmesan cheese
    -Anchovies available upon request

A small is big enough for an appetizer size for 2-3 people. A large will easily serve 4+ people. The salad isn't cheap by any means, but ORDER IT AND BE AMAZED! :) so totally worth it.

I have eaten quite a bit of pizza over the course of my 22 years.  I now feel confident that I can say, with absolute certainty, that Amici's Pizza is my favoritest ever.

The pizza is thin crust, but not thin enough too be obnoxiously crunchy, and the sauce is a delicious flavor that isn't overbearing (and I have never had an oversauced pizza from Amici's; that's the worst).  The cheese is so fresh and juicy.  That first big bite is mouthgasm worthy, even with the cheese burn.

I'm also a fan of their pepperoni pizza.  Their pepperonis are small and bite-sized.  So, that problem that you can run into with big pepperonis pulling the cheese off the pizza when you try to only bit into half of it is totally nonexistant.

There is only one single reason why this isn't a five-star review.  After spending a couple of years on the East Coast, I've come to understand something very important about pizza: garlic powder.  It is amazing and awesome on pizza and is an absolute must for all pizza parlors to have it readily available.  Having plentiful garlic powder shakers is important enough that it's absence really is just cause for one less star.

I also thoroughly enjoy their minestrone soup.  It's rich, flavorful, dense, clean, and filling.  I get it every single time I go.

Tip: If you're having difficulty deciding whether you're in the mood to get drunk at a sports bar or eat pizza, you can just order Amici's from the sports bar a couple of doors down.  I believe the owners are related.

    YUM! *drool*

I have got to say that I have had take-out/delivery many times but going in tonight w/ my family was just the best. We had the nicest waitress who was fine w/ my 3 year old spilling water, asking for pizza right away and well, being 3.

We ordered a small Caesar to share, Pesto Pizza for the 3 yr old and an Amici's Combo for us. We ordered our salad first and the waitress advised the pizza for the Kidlet at that time too . . . smart.

The Amici's Combo was soooo good. The Caesar salad was soooooo good. BEST dressing ever. Epic!

This is a pricey pizza joint but I think worth it.

Amici's  is not for the faint of heart. I got sick after eating this greasy excuse that they call pizza. The pizza here does remind me of the pizza in New York, you know those 99¢ slices at every corner that makes you feel disgusting, as if you just ate a brick? Yup, same feeling after eating here.

I had the margarita pizza, it was oozing with grease and barely had any toppings on it other than tons of cheese. The tomatoes and basil were very sparse. I also tried their breadsticks which were like cardboard and the ceaser salad which was ok. I was still sick the next day after eating the food from here. Given how much they charge you for a pie you'd think they could afford to use higher quality ingredients.

Bottom line, I wouldn't eat pizza from Amici's again, even if my life depended on it. They're going to the bottom of my Pittsa list*

This was it!  I found the NY pizza I'd been craving.  Thin crunchy crust, nice spiciness to the sauce, and enough grease on the top so you could set it on fire.  AND, the first caesar salad I've had out here where you could actually discern some anchovy flavor.

Somewhat expensive, though.  I'll save it for serious cravings.

Why do I keep ordering takeout from here?! The crust is thin and soggy, the toppings are overcooked and the pizza gets cold in a 10 minute drive and the poor http://Waiter.com driver doesn't do any better at keeping it warm. I'll settle for warm but I can't even get that. I'm also a sucker for clams and pesto, not clams, pesto and clumps of linguine stuck to each other making one large unappealing mass. But that's just me.

The only reason we ordered from this place was because it was so highly rated by locals. Lies! All lies people! I spent $38 on medium vegetarian pizza and pasta and ended up not eating any of it. When the pizza has more liquid dripping from it than the sauce on the pasta, we've got problems. Our crust this particular time was burned on the bottom, the pizza wasn't cut thoroughly enough and the first bite fell apart on contact.

Moving to the pasta, I thought for sure that would have been better but there was hardly enough sauce to loosen up the massive clump of pasta. I did eventually find it in a pool of oil that separated from the cream on the bottom of the container. At least the sourdough roll was unaffected and I ended up eating that instead. Thank goodness for sourdough bread! Never again Amici's...never again!

Ordered delivery from this location and it was definitely below average. I've eaten at the Redwood Shores location before for dine in and I was very impressed with the service and food. However, after ordering delivery from the San Mateo location, the pizza seemed to have been cooked beforehand, and sat under a heat lamp or something for quite some time. It arrived in record delivery time (18 min) which also leads me to believe that the pizza was pre-cooked. Not what I expected from a $25 pizza. Dine in only or get delivery from Round Table.

Finally took a stroll to DT San Mateo for a nice lunch w/ Justin.  It's a nice walk & DT San Mateo is only an 8 minute walk from our apartment!!  We were on a mish to try this place out & it was yumms!  The service is friendly & fast too.

We were unsure of our decision, but the waitress let us know we could do a half & half pizza, what luck!!  We ordered the...

Manhattan Red Clam Pizza - So good!  Clams on a pizza oh hell yah!

New Haven White Clam Pizza -  This one was about the same, it just didn't have tomato sauce& it had bacon!!  Justin favors this one because of the bacon, but I thought it was a little too clammy.

Gnocci w/ Pesto - Seriously http://bomb.com.  This potato gnocci is good, they fry it & cover it with a pesto sauce which isn't to overbearing.

Garlic Breadsticks - They were OK, not memorable though.

I really like this place & will probs be going back.

    Horrible!!!

Pizza is way too expensive the customer service is non existent and the pizza itself is extremely greasy.

But the truly horrifying thing is watching the staff role dice and gamble outside their back door. That alleyway is so filthy and disgusting. I even saw one of them roll the dice a few times, then run inside grab some pizza dough and run back out 10 seconds later. He was squeezing and stretching the dough in his hands in between rolls of the dice.

If you want pizza crust free of rat droppings hit someplace else, but if you want to go to a place with trace amounts of mystery sludge in the pizza dough amici's is the place for you!

So I never have been in this restaurant but have had delivery many times and I am always impressed how good the food arrives. The delivery people are always on time; they never get lost and come to the front door in my apartment unlike others. Food always arrives delicious regardless of what I order & the minestrone soup is so good mom would be jealous I was eating it... Fettuccini Alfredo with roasted garlic and broccoli is absolutely heaven at the door step & then there are the pizza pies with a superior dough and crust recipe.... without a doubt the best in the area though a bit pricy.
