I love Amici's!  This location is wonderful and the staff are very helpful.  They are also great for pick up.  I called at 4:00pm and requested a 5:15 pick up and they had no problem with that.  Additionally they are great with speicalized orders.

Lastly, check out their nutrition info - I was pleasantly suprised!

I hate to give this place a bad review, but I really don't think I'll go back.  The place was pretty nice inside- had a nice casual feel and the tall windows let in a lot of natural light.  The service was also pretty good.  So what am I disappointed in?  Well, it was the food.  Here's a breakdown:

    *Spinach Salad
With Roasted Red Peppers, Red Onion, Tomato, Bacon, Feta, and Toasted Pine Nuts. Served with our Lemon Basil Vinaigrette. -- I love baby Spinach and I was so excited since it had a bunch of bacon on it, but this lemon Basil Vinaigrette was so blah tasting that it did *nothing* for the salad.  The star of the salad was the bacon-- But really?  Bacon makes everything taste good.

    *Amici's Combo
Pepperoni, Meatball, Bacon, Sautéed Mushrooms, and Black Olives up was the pizza.  We had the had high hopes for this since Amici's is supposed to serve really good stuff.  Alas, it was just the opposite.  It was a thinner crust, but there was so much grease on top that it almost felt like it was sitting on top of my tongue. And the toppings?  They all just tasted blah as well.   I usually have more than one slice, but I couldn't do it.  I shocked myself.

We stopped by for quick dinner before hitting up a concert at HP Pavilion.  The wait wasn't too long at ten minutes considering the crowds, and waiting a bit longer for the few tables outside was well worth it.  A big plus was being able to grab beer/wine at the takeout counter while waiting for the table - nothing like a $5 beer or wine to pass the time!

We ordered the Amici's Combo - pepperoni, meatball, bacon , sauteed mushrooms, and black olives.  The lady friend wasn't a fan of the slightly burnt taste of the brick-oven-fired pizza, but I thought it was alright - not charred at all.  The toppings were plentiful but slightly oily, and the thin crust was crispy.  The price is standard pricey for a pizzeria, although I thought the pizza felt small due to the thin crust.

I was a fan of Amici's when I first arrived in Mountain View back in 2006 because truth be known there truly is not a decent pizza shop here in California but Amici's did a solid job of making me not pine away too much for Mr. Pizza, Bertucci's or Pizzeria Regina.

Yet...something happened:  Lately, I am not sure if it is just the San Jose location or perhaps it is a change in recipe but lately the sauce on any of the pizza's from Amici's taste like ketchup.  The sauce is way too sweet and does not contain enough italian spices to even pass as weak tomato sauce.  It is horrible.  Plus the bottom is burnt, yet the crust is wet.  This has happened multiple times, not just once and dare I say Dominoes is a step up.

I am sorry Amici's, the thrill is gone.  : (

Even though I warned my coworkers not to do it, they ordered from Amici's SJ for lunch... they really should change their name to AMICI'S BURNT TOAST PIZZERIA... even with my admin SPECIFICALLY REQUESTING A WHITE/LITE CRUST the cooks there still managed to burn my entire large cheese pizza...  They should be forced to pull all of their advertisements for their blatant false claims.  THEY ARE NOT EASTCOAST PIZZA!  They believe that black is a standard-color for pizza.  If you eat their pizza with your hands expect them to be blackend by all the charcoal in their crust.

Memo to Amici's: the only black color that should ever be on a pizza is olives!!!

These guys still have no clue howto properly turn a pizza to keep it from burning in their ovens.  Only order from them if you need to increase the carbon in your diet.

I stand by my former review and hope my coworkers never pick them again.

Ok, Amici's is a chain and is pretty well received because the pizza IS pretty good.  This particular venue is nice and the staff was fine.

Here's my beef.  $30 for pizza and a soda.  Seriously?  The pizza is like $23 or something.  I've heard of people getting delivery and it running them $40 for one pizza.  It's PIZZA!  Yeah, I felt extorted because the pizza isn't anything special or artesian.  It's just really pricy.  So I'll never be going back.  Besides, Papa Johns is better.  Willow Street pizza (while also a little more expensive) is at least unique and particularly incredible.  Given that a moderately priced but FANTASTIC pizza (WSP) place exists and a cheaper but still very good pizza place exists (PPJ).. why would I ever go to Amici's?

    *end of rant*

Snicker. Suffice to say this isn't Pizzeria Mozza...or Lou Malnati's...or even CPK.  Amici's plays at being upscale, but if the dough is any indication, it graduated from the same school of cardboard as Dominos...

And that's the thing, at a Dominos, I don't expect great things, but I also don't pay for a premium product.  What irks me about Amici's is how it charges extra, but doesn't put any extra thought or love into their product.

Alas, since they do deliver, and pizza is easy, I'll probably order again for work...heh

Over priced, over hyped! I hear about this place all the time on the radio and the radio host makes it sound like the best pizza you'll ever have.  But in reality it's far from the truth.  We ordered 2 large pizzas at a bowling outing...for $56!  So I expected greatness and nothing less.  The pizzas arrived about 45 minutes from the time of order...the delivery man made sure I fill in the tip line on the credit card receipt.

Quality of the pizza: not impressed at all.
Size of their large: not impressive
    Ingredients:  Not abundant...felt cheated!
    Taste:  like any other pizza

Overall:  $56 worth of pizza from Amici's isn't worth it.  You can eat your heart out at Pizza My Heart and still have some money left...plus the taste at Pizza My Heart is unrivaled.

I love Amici's pizza! They are perfect for a late dinner after the Sharks game. They certainly don' t have the cheapest pizza in town, but it is delicious and well worth the price. Personally, I like a basic pepperoni pie with that slight char on that thin crust from the brick oven. Perfection!

It's also easy to eat in the car while waiting in that post-game traffic. Best road food ever. Not too messy at all. But still, I prefer to eat there and wait for the traffic to clear up a bit.

Last time we were there we also ordered the gnocchi. I've always had it in sauce before, which theirs doesn't come in. That seemed a little odd, but it was amazing and I think that sauce would have only detracted from it. They were perfectly fluffy little pillowy balls of potato goodness with a nice light crunch on the outside. I highly recommend their gnocchi if you don't mind trying it naked.

If you're reading this because you've never had Amici's and looking for a new pizza joint, just know that it is a bit upscale and not cheap. And also know that it's worth every penny and you won't be sorry. Go for date night. Go before/after the game. Go because you love brick oven baked NY pizza. Just GO!

Ordered 5 pizzas, 2 pastas for delivery at noon. The pizza arrived 20 minutes late. Delivery person was to "check with the manager" if I could get a discount but never called back. Eating this pizza is like chewing through yummy room temperature cardboard.

The pasta was edible. The pizzas tastes like shit. Amici's in SF is the same.

Actually, shame on me. Never again..

On a Sunday evening.. my Aunt and her partner invited me and my Daughter to dinner. I was hesitant because I was tired (mentally and physically) but since it was very nice of them to invite us to dinner, I agreed to meet them at the house so we can ride together (the parking can be a hassle considering it's downtown).

We were seated and the server was quick to ask us what we wanted to drink. He then came back w/ our drinks and asked if we were ready to order any appetizers. Since my Aunt, her partner, and my Daughter is a regular here... they already knew what they wanted so they went ahead and ordered the appetizers and their main entree while I skimmed the menu quickly to avoid the guy from having to come back just for me.

First we started off w/ an order of bread sticks w/ ranch (to dip), a family order of the garden salad w/ ranch dressing on the side.. it's a better deal because if the 3 of us (excluding my Daughter) wants the same salad, it would be $6.95 per person but the family order is $12.75! My Aunt and her partner ordered a small spicy pepper chicken, I ordered a mini pollo (chicken breast, spinach, and roasted garlic, no tomato sauce), and my Daughter ordered the kid's butter pasta.

The order came out to the table in the sequence and timing was right.. first was the bread sticks then a few minutes later the salad then when we were almost through w/ our salad, the pizzas and pasta arrived. My Daughter and my Aunt always order their usual but this is my 3rd time at an Amici's so my pizza was a first timer and I admit that my pizza was delicious! I did not feel like a fatty consuming 2 slices out of my mini pizza! The crust is rather thin, the spinach and chicken along w/ the garlic made me feel as if I'm actually eating a nonfattening pizza!

My Daughter cleaned her pasta. My Aunt's pizza was cleaned. I was the only one that had to box the food home because I am trying to work on my portion control. Seriously, if only I have a liposuction machine at home.

    Kudos!

    Overall: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

The Pizza: not made with love. Toppings are pricey, stingy, and carelessly thrown on. The pizza is always cold. The dough is like cardboard.

The Environment: cold, unwelcoming, unfriendly staff.

The History: I've been in San Jose for business all week and I wanted to treat my clients to lunch. I remember I loved Amici's in Mountain View 6 years ago, so I thought I would try the downtown store. This was the biggest mistake I made today.

The Incident: My meeting went horribly south after that, when one of my clients bit into a slice of pizza and pulled a small, black curly hair out of his mouth, attached to a piece of basil. Needless to say, my clients didn't make a deal with me today. In fact, that little pubic hair completely ruined my afternoon.

The Outcome: What followed was an hour and a half battle between my assistant, myself and Amici's barrage of horrible customer service. Finally, Peter, the owner called me, to say, (in more words) customer satisfaction is simply not a priority for Amici's. There was absolutely NO CONCERN on their end for my time, my costs, my experience, or the short-and-curly on my clients' slice of pizza.

I doubt this review will be shocking Peter, I let him know I would share my story with Yelp... He didn't even respond.

The Good News: a little birdie told me 4 of their stores would be closing in the next three months. So at least, for me, the bright point to my story is their reign of pubic-haired pizza and tyrannical customer service will be shortly coming to an end.

My Suggestion: if you want good pizza and you value good service, go to Pizza My Heart, instead.

I came here today with 2 of my co-workers today. It wasn't busy or anything so we were seated right away. Since it was nice and sunny we requested outdoor seating. The waitress did not look happy to see us, and didn't say her name. Just went straight to the point and asked what we wanted to drink.

I get it, waitressing sucks. I was a waitress. Hated it. But I think she could have said hello, or happy friday, or anything! We weren't bothered by it much though, we just wanted to get our order in.

Lejla and Yen shared the Pollo Pizza (small size = $16.95) as well as the Lasagna. Generally the Pollo does not come with tomato sauce but you can totally ask for it anyway and they'll make it normally. The Pollo Pizza comes with baby spinach, chicken, and slow roasted garlic. The lasagna they shared was about $12. The portion really should have been bigger for what my friends had to pay.

I ordered a mini size Amici's Combo to myself since I eat cheese-less pizzas. Mine was $11.45 and came with sausage, pepperoni, bacon, mushrooms, and black olives. I traded the olives for slow roasted garlic and it was AWESOME! They also sprinkle complementary garlic on your pizza upon request.

The pizza sizes here goes like this: Mini = 7 inches. Small = 10 inches. Medium = 13. Large = 15. The small here is a little bit bigger than the small size at Pizza Antica I think.

Total, our bill came out to $54. That includes 3 sodas. We all felt like it was overpriced, mainly because of the lasagna. I feel that Pizza Antica is definitely better because I appreciate the crust there more as well  as the quality of the tomato sauce. Also, I think the service is generally better at Pizza Antica. I had to ask for the bill multiple times and walk in to ask someone to process the bill too. The waitress was finally nice to us after we paid.

The service here was definitely lacking. I thought it was because we were sitting outside, but the waitress just didn't seem to really want to talk to any of her customers. I'd give this place 2 stars but I did enjoy my pizza and the girls were really happy with their lasagna. Also, any place that has slow roasted garlic is a +1 for me.

Way over-hyped.  The pizza was alright, but they messed up my order when almost no one was there (they did offer to fix it apologetically, though).  The pizzas are decent, but nothing to brag about.  I was encouraged to try it by the commercials played on the Sharks' Radio Network.  Prices are pretty steep.  Vibe is kinda odd: it's a sit down restaurant, when I feel like it should be more of a walk in place.  The pizzas on their specialty list are all a little "weird."  Overall, it was not what I was expecting and did not live up to expectations.

I live in downtown San Jose, and I appreciate having a delightfully good pizza restaurant in the near vicinity of my home.

I order the Margherita Pizza everytime I come here, and it really, never fails. All of the wait staff I've had have been sociable and personable; I like having waiters/waitresses that are great conversationalists. It's something that stands out to me as making a restaurant experience, aside from the food, that much more memorable.

Another aspect of Amici's that I enjoy is its design: its high ceilings, entire glass design, and modern architecture makes it a real pleasure to dine in.

My review is solely based upon the food and delivery. I have never actually gone to the restaurant so like I said, solely based on my food and delivery service. I love the convenience of paying and ordering on http://waiter.com. I love that they can deliver to me:-). I'm not a huge fan of pizza...well let me take that back..I am and only because of the nutrition of pizza, I choose not to eat it very often. Anyway, I was craving some rustic modernized fancy pizza. Very similar to pizza antica. I ordered it online at http://waiter.com. My pizza arrived in a timely manner by a very nice man. My pizza was as expected, very rustic new age aka similar to pizza antica. It's not your typical pizza place and the thin crust makes it a lot lighter on your tummy and arteries haha. I will definitely be ordering from them again.

I have to say I was extremely disappointed in the quality of toppings on the pizza, a meat combo. The pizza was greasy and the pepperoni was lack luster. The thin crust was ok but for the price it was a total let down. We even went so far as throwing away our leftovers which is a major sin in and of itself. I am accustomed to paying $20-25 for an awesome pizza, so it was not sticker shock that ruined the night. I just felt that the hype was not reflected in the product.

Would not come back here for pasta but I'll come back to try the pizza. The large pesto clam pasta I got fed 2 people twice. the only problem was, after a couple of bites, i got super tired of eating it. probably because it was oily.

the decor was really nice and when i ordered togo, it only took 20 mins for my food to be ready. We were only given 1 fork for 2 people so I had to run back across the street to get a fork

Definitely a good pie. But I'm hesitant to award it 4 stars. It wasn't bad at all...just not unique or amazing.

Came here with my chica and got the Spicy chicken pizza. She had a glass of red wine while I had a 22 oz. bottle of Downtown Brown...which is not easy to find! Our waiter was courteous and polite. Pizza came out in a reasonable amount of time.

This seems to be my new way of ratings. If I had a good time, its no longer getting a 4 star review. It has to be unique or really good. The pizza here was good - not impressive or unique. It said it was spicy chicken and I had to dump red pepper flakes and jalapeños all over to get a kick. Other than that - it was just a chicken pizza. AGAIN, not bad...just a little plain and predictable

Dinner for the two of us came to $41. Not too bad I guess.

The place looks nice and is great for a 10th date. Clean and neat but not too fancy-schmancy

Best pizza in the bay area hands down!

When it comes to thin crust gourmet pizza nothing beats Amici's. Every time I'm in San Jose I make sure I stop here to eat.

The ingredients are fresh and the crust is savory and delicious.

I've tried all the pizza's on the menu and they are all good but I have to say my favorite is the New heaven white claim pizza. It's a not sauce white pizza with bacon and claims on it. Simply delicious. 5 out of 5 stars.

The service is good here, the staff is very attentive and keeps your drink full.

The price is what you would except from a sit down restaurant. Around 15+ dollars for a pizza depending on the size.

Location in downtown is nice right next to HP.

The decor is pretty cool with black and white photos of classic sports moments. Very simple and chic.

All in all, if you like thin crust pizza this is the place to be in San Jose.

If you don't like riding on the Flavor Train, stay away from Amici's. Otherwise, ALL ABOARD!

    --------
Food: Out of four possible stars: three stars.

Our party ordered a Antipasto salad, penne eggplant parmigiana and a puttanesca, and a large spicy chicken/New Haven clam half and half pizza.

The salad came with an anchovy-based dressing, which gave the salad a nice subtle salty flavor. The onions and peppers were served in thinly sliced rings and the olives were not pitted, which made eating the salad a little difficult, but it was nothing a knife couldn't handle.

A nice touch was the side of anchovy fillets on the side. We had three people who love anchovies, which I am sure was strange to our waiter. Thanks to the anchovies, the salad had a great  kick of saltiness.

The pastas were good, but nothing to write home about. The eggplant parm could have used more breading and deep frying, but otherwise there was nothing to be found lacking.

However, the star of the show was the pizza. The spicy chicken was good, but nothing compared to the New Haven white clam. At first, it seemed as if the clam was overpowered by the bacon, but eventually I could taste the clam along with the crispy bacon. The combination offered a very nice flavor profile and definitely one I will be craving for a long time.

The best part of the pizza was the crust. I always enjoy a thin crust from a wood-fired oven, but this one was amazing. It was burnt in several areas, but that burned parts only added to the smoky flavor of the crust. Overall, one of the best pizzas I have ever had.

    --------
Miscellaneous: Out of one possible star: one star.

Amici's on Santa Clara has a very nice ambiance, especially on a sunny day like the day I went. With huge windows, there is plenty of sunlight.

The service is very friendly and diligent as well. They refill water constantly, and they are very open to specific requests, such as my friend's request for a plate of anchovy fillets.

So I feel a little guilty giving this place an automatic 4 stars when I know nothing about the menu. But the thing is... They have VEGAN pizza options.

I couldn't even believe it when I typed it into Yelp. I had just spent the day reading a book describing local Italian cuisine in tantalizing detail when I suddenly started having the most depressing dairy withdrawals that I've had since going vegan in January.

Fast forward three hours and I'm sitting in a clean restaraunt eating delicious vegan pizza with my family and shooting rapid texts off to my vegan sister to spread the good news.

Decent thin-crust vegan pizza does exist and it exists here. Thank you Jesus!

Okay, here's why this place only gets 4 stars:
    1) When you say you want the vegan cheese pizza, you have to specify that you DO want the vegetable toppings, and no, you are not just requesting that the pizza be cheese only.

    2) When you walk in there, I feel like there are always like, a pack of 10 guys just standing around in the front looking at you. Maybe it's the lazily pulled back hair, the too short of shorts, or maybe it's just me being self conscious.
Whatever their reasons, I'm sure they have something better to do than stand around making customers feel uncomfortable.

pizza has good flavor, the pepperoni are small slices and taste like they are home made. the pizza crust needs some work, pizza could use alot more toppings on my pizza i ordered the "combo" and i think the pizza was very lite on the toppings for being a "combo"(peperronni, mushrooms, olives, sliced meatballs, cheese, etc). in comparison to other local san jose NY pizzas i would give this a 1 star, i have had alot better.

THE alameda rossies pizza (SAN JOSE) and colesium pizza in milpitas CA are alot closer to NY original pizza than amici's, they are cheaper $$. i understand amici's quality is hand-made and crafted like a custom part for a car or something, they are skimpy with toppings. beware of ordering a pizza with (no tomatoe sauce) you will get the crust like a dry flat bread toasted sandwich.

all in all, the delivery service was on time, the fresh parmisian cheese was lovely but 35$$$  for a large pizza. i could have spent 25$ at "fast pizza delivery" and got 2 times more food and almost the same quality. i would recomend amici's for a first date to impress a female companion or just cause you are bored before a sharks game and walking through san jose downtown. other than that, i will stick to more fimiliar places than amici's.

Too be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Amici's, but where do you go if you spend more time drinking beer and mixed drinks hungry before a Sharks game and in a rush? You come here!

2 slices of cheese or pepperoni for $4. Great deal!

It can get packed before a Sharks game, so we try to get there early enough to avoid the wait and possibly watch preskate (5:30 pm works). Service is usually quick and always friendly.

You can't go wrong with ordering their flavorful Antipasto Salad, or their Combo - with pepperoni, meatball, bacon, mushrooms, and olives.

But if you like thin crust pizza without tomato sauce like I do, the Milano wouldn't be a bad choice - with roasted potatoes, bacon, mozzarella, provolone and garlic.

Another thin crust pie we got was the Trentino.  The crumbled feta, noticeable garlic, and large chunks of bacon made this pizza a bit on the salty side.  But it also gave me an unforgettable burp.

The Asante with vegan cheese, spinach, broccoli, and fresh basil would be my go-to choice when acting like a vegetarian.

Fresh ingredients were obvious, but I was hoping for a more crispy crust throughout.  Not my favorite pizza from the Bay Area.  For South Bay thin crust however, this place would top my list.

This place is a good pizzeria....Its big, its pizza, and the best of all? they got lots of variety! This place is stuck near a Japanese curry house, and Red mango...across from it, is a Mexican genre restaurant....So this place is pretty impressive to still stand at where its at......The pizzas are good for lunch, and have the option to split and mix and match what pizzas you want. I will come back! but I would like some more different pizzas? please?

Great pizza (if you like thin crust.  Paired it with a small antipasto ans ministroni.  Very good.
This happened to be the night of a Sharks game.  It starts getting busy around five.  However, with the outdoor seating we only waited a few minutes.

Two words (one compound): Stale and over-priced.

San Jose has some great pizza places, and I must say that this is _not_ one of them.  Our party had 3 pizzas and an order of gnocchi.  None were memorable.

The gnocchi looked like small burnt bugs.  They were relatively tasteless and appeared to be defrosted from a cardboard box and cooked in a toaster oven.  They tasted like tater tots -- not bad right? -- just not like gnocchi.  Anybody in food service should be embarrassed to serve these.

The pizzas were lackluster (Amici's Combo, Red Manhattan, and the Milano)- decent crust, but kind of lifeless.  They look like left-overs straight out of the oven. The sauce was pretty light (as in not much of it), and the toppings looked old, crusty, and as if they were all cut by a robot.  Day old pizza from any other establishment can give Amici's a run for their money.

Combo: Cardboard sausage and pepperoni, just tastes like salt and grease.
Manhattan: Canned clams and a dash of sauce, tastes like licking a clam shell.
Milano: You know the breakfast potatoes at Jimmy's, IHOP, Denny's?  That's what's on the pizza, and looks/tastes as if it's day old.

All in all, the bill was about $70 -- pretty tall for crappy pizza, but I guess they have to pay the rent.

Boca Lupo, I Heart, (Both close by) Bibos, and heck even Papa John's and Papa Murphy's are better than this place.  I would take a personal pan from Pizza Hut or Domino's before going back to this place again.

    Great service, well trained staff.

The problem... every time I eat Amici's Pizza, I just can't see why people rave about it. It is overly greasy, devoid of cheese even when paying for extra cheese, and invariably very salty.

I must be strange though because I cannot find anyone to agree with me on these points.

It's just not my cup of tea I guess.

My company regularly order large orders from them and it seems it is always burned (something I hate in a pizza).

I can find 20 better pizza joints in the area for my taste.

    Overpriced? Maybe. Scrumptious? Yup.

Perhaps it is a bit of a "rip-off" to be charged $40 (with tax & tip) for two people, with plain old ice water & no dessert.

Still, it's a treat to eat upscale pizza at an upscale location - very sunny, with high ceilings and overall grandiose interior.

    On our food-repertoire:
Pasta w/ Clam Sauce - Brilliant! Very refined taste, not too strong, not too mild. Delicious!

BUILD-YOUR-OWN PIZZA - Pineapple & Pepperoni. Small size; simple, but $15. Nevertheless, delish! Love the crust.

*TIP: DO not throw away the crusts! Even if they are 'black,' it's just due to the usage of brick oven. I like to put Tabasco sauce over it and have it as a snack. Tasty!

Good interior + Good price - Expensive factor = 4 Stars!

    I like thick things.

Thick cigars.  Thick wads of money.  Thick slice of prime rib.  Thick ladies.  But when it comes to pizza, I have to say I look the other way and go thin.

NIce crusty pizza with minimal toppings is what I like.  Don't confuse me with more than three toppings.  Pizza is simple and Amici's knows how to do simple.

Package this with a salad and a beer, and you've got the perfect pre game meal for when the Sharks play at the tank.

Note to thick girls...don't bother applying.  I'm taken.
