pleasant, casual dining with attentive servers and the dining room is open late. the high-quality thin-crust is best right from the oven. never seems too be too busy and the speed of food and drink is brisk but well paced.
clean, tile-floored restaurant with impressive open pizza hearth on display to diners. -
Review from Ellen L.
my go-to italian restaurant in downtown MV, especially if the other italian restaurants have a long wait.
pasta is standard: linguini, fettucini, penne, ravioli, lasagna, and so are the sauces: marinara, alfredo, pesto, add meat or clams. sizes come in small/large/family. even for the small size, they give you a nice helping, and it tastes good, but it's nothing spectacular. i could probably make this at home.
i've never had their pizza before, but prices look very reasonable and they also offer a gluten-free pizza crust, which is one of their big selling points. they also offer a thin crust, half-baked, and light crust, which is unique (don't think i've seen this anywhere else).
the dining area is quite spacious and very clean. staff is friendly and prompt. outdoor seating is available, and a nice option during the warmer months.
if you want a no frills, no wait, big helping of pasta with a nice price-tag, this is your place. if you want something fancier, and more expensive, walk a few blocks north on castro st. -

Pricey "New York style" pizza.
Efficient and reliable but lacking in character. If you want a more "New York" experience roll down El Camino a little ways and hit "Slice of New York" but if you got mouths to feed and you want to get in and out like the Navy Seals, this is your spot. -

No. Oh, hell, no.
My guess is their faux-upscale vibe and having "East Coast" in the name helps them. I actually heard some couple saying, "Oh, this must be what it's like in NY".
People. I've been to NYC. Any place that offers OK toppings on a crappy, cardboard-like crust and has the gall to charge $13 for a tiny little 7-inch individual-sized pizza would go out of business in a day in NYC, what with there being actual competition there.
Can't blame Amici's. Sometimes it just seems like the South Bay's clueless restaurant-going population gets what it deserves.
Oh, by the way....love how they have a pic of the Sears Tower on their website right next to "Enjoy a taste of NY right here in CA". FAIL. -

Very disappointed tonight. We ordered a cheese pizza with extra cheese. There is no way this pizza had extra cheese. I know because I have been here before and the pizza looks and tastes different. The pizza was not good it tasted like cardboard. I don't think my family will be coming back. There are better and cheaper places out there.

It was my first time visit to amici's and was impressed by the ambiance but disappointed by the veggie pizza I ordered. The crust was flimsy and could be rolled up like a newspaper. After reading all the high reviews I was expecting a proper crust with some level of crispness. Still doesn't beat round table.

Amici's in general - not a fan. I feel a little bit like an idiot everytime I pay $12-15 for my lunch that I know I could have made at home with more flavor for less than half the price. I find myself in a pinch at least once every 6 months when I am craving a warm pasta dish and end up right there at Amici's begging for more marinara. :/
This location in Mountain View is A-ok. The staff is pretty cool and they always joke along with me when I tell them I feel like an idiot paying $7 for a side of Broccoli.
I do like the crust options and the fact that they let you customize you pizza and it will be good quality and not the greasy mega-chain experience.
It's a good place you can count on for service with a smile, timely delivery, and quality food. The flavor: you to make sure you are clear about what you want so you will be happy, otherwise it might be a bit bland. -
Review from Nadia L.
I used to work across the street from this Amicis and have no idea why people like it so much. I think the food is below average and expensive for what it is.
When I realized we had a company offsite dinner here recently for my new job, I was like oooh noo....not again! Since most of my amazing co-workers were going, I decided to go and give it another shot.
Unfortunately it was exactly as I remembered- not tasty. The pizza is extremely oily and even the breadsticks were not as good as I remembered. In addition, parking around here is hard.
There are tons of other choices on Castro, do yourself a favor and pick something else. -
Review from Yeelo N.
I really wanted to like this place, I really did. It would have meant that I finally found a local pizza joint for East Coast style pizza. Welp, the search continues.
* Garden Salad - romaine lettuce, 5 green bell pepper rings, 4 red onion rings, handful of grape tomatoes - $7 (for a side salad?!?!?!)
* Trentino - we added tomato sauce and sausage. It looked all good and tasty. Psssshh.... The crust was soggy and bland and if it wasn't for the pancetta, there would have been absolutely NO FLAVOR to the pie. Unfortunately, the pancetta only served its purpose as a salt substitute since it was more a hard dice-size cube of salty dried meat rather than the savory chewy goodness it was meant to be.
What a disappointment. For $37, I would have rather had myself a bagged salad and frozen pizza from the grocery store. Throw in a 6pk of beer and I still would have had an extra $20 to spare. -
Review from Dang N.
Place is known for its thin-crust pizza and you can even ask for a super think crust! It's almost like flatbread. I actually liked it. And I had three different types of pizza. A pepperoni, the trentino and the amici's combo. The actual pepperoni they use is really tasty. A small cut sausage so they're penny sized but they've a lot of flavor. The combo wasn't bad and the trentino came out kinda salty. I'm used to salty pizza because I usually order anchovies but be warned if you're not, that feta cheese on the trentino definitely kicks.
My waiter was pretty patient with us and I came with a friend and her family of 12 and 9 year old. Overall I'd come back for convenience of location but if you want great tasting thin-crust there are other places to venture. -

[UPDATE] GLUTEN FREE? DON'T EAT HERE.
After 3 years, this is still the most irresponsible 'gluten free' menu around. I'm surprised they haven't been put on notice for false advertising.
The amount of xanthan and casien in their food and the ridiculously high probability of cross-contamination make this place a no-go for anyone with Celiac's, auto-immune, or GFCF issues.
They gave me a free pizza once after I was doubled over in excruciating pain for days and called trying to help them understand how to be safer. A free pizza seems like an ironic "I'm sorry." I wish they had just listened and adapted. That was about 2.5 years ago. For the price, you can make 4 - 8 safe pizzas at home.1 Previous Review: Show all »

We barely eat here in the restaurant, instead opting for takeout or delivery. This is one of the better pizza places in this area. I am from the East Coast and as long as I haven't been back East eating that pizza, this is good (just don't ask me to eat pizza if I've been back East recently, it's really not that close in my opinion).
Anyway, we always order the light crust, which is truer to East Coast style pizza and thankfully that is noted in their computer (they always ask for my phone number so they can pull up previous orders). We've had a lot of specials (& 2 topping pizza), including the Trentino, Spicy Chicken, Pollo, & Greek Isle all with tomato sauce (yes you can ask for it). The best part is that they cook their mushrooms beforehand and I don't get dry shriveled up ones on my pizza. -

I dunno how I feel about Amici's. I like the pizza, but I don't think I like the size and price value. If it were cheaper I would probably come here more often, but when you have A Slice of New York, Pizza Chicago, or even Round Table in the area I can easily overlook this place.
I wish there was something special to say about their pizza. Maybe I just hate how small and expensive they can be, and its just not worth it. -

I don't understand Amici's. I've made the mistake of ordering from here a couple times over the last year. Each time, I hope it lives up to the hype, but each time I'm stunned by its mediocrity relative to its high price.
It'd be 3 stars if the price were in line with any other mid-range place. But it's not. They're also quite stingy. It was like pulling teeth to get something as simple as parmesan. I hope Ralph Barbieri stops doing their ads on KNBR. Unfortunately, the place doesn't live up to his hype. -

We often go to Amici's for their delicious thin pizzas, salads, and beer. :) Last night I was tight on time and placed a pickup order. When I arrived, my pizza was mistakenly given to someone else. I was short on time and illegally parked.... so a bit frustrated. However, Carlos not only told me about the free parking that's in the parking structure off the side street right in the back of their restaurant...he was very polite, apologetic and rewarded my inconvenience with a free pizza for next time. Carlos, thank you for making a bad situation great!!

2.8 stars.
I don't get why people rave about this place. Maybe they don't know a good, affordable pizza place? The pizza is decent, but WAY overpriced. I ate here the first time because a friend took me (picked the place). The second time I had to be dragged back (4 people *had* to eat here for lunch). Never again. I've had much better for a lot less. (OK, it's in Campbell, but I know several much better NOT pizza places within a mile of this place.) -

I've been coming to this particular location of Amici's since it opened. Customer service is spot on, friendly and prompt. Restaurant is clean and keeps to the hours it posts. Food and service are consistently good.
The husband and I came here today and shared a calabria pizza with the most delicious pancetta and fresh tomatoes. We took a slice of the J.M. Rosen cheesecake to go. If you're looking for Gluten Free- they have a wonderful and extensive menu, GF pizzas aren't bad but we prefer the regular ones.

I've come here plenty of times over the years since I moved from sunnyvale down to San Jose, and I am happy to say that it has definitely stayed consistent with good service and fresh grub. The pizzas are awesome, and the salads are nice and fresh. The staff was also extremely friendly.

I love this place....but let me qualify that opinion.
-I know it's not NYC pizza....I've been there, and well, it's not the same....BUT, it's still great pizza.
-It is expensive, there's no way around it. You can do papa johns, dominos or pizza hut MUCH cheaper - but I prefer the taste here....plus - the beer isn't too expensive.
-all we eat is thin crust, so this place is perfect for us....we also don't have any allergies, and love trying new pizzas out. Between my husband and myself, and we are fairly fit people, we can easily eat the large between two of us.
-our faves are amicis combo, trentino and spicy pepper chicken....yum!
- i love how they let you do half and half.
My husband and I have been here numerous times, and will keep coming back - only once was our pizza more burnt than we prefer. Service has been hit or miss, we have had fantastic service, and terrible service....but it's pizza. As long as it's hot and delicious when it comes out, I don't mind having to flag a waitress down for more water. I've never done take-out here, so I'm not sure of the quality...but I can say we will be back. -

Order the garlic breadsticks. So tasty. So carb-o-licious.
This place was fast, which was nice since it was a late dinner for us...our son is 6 so the only thing worse than a late dinner is having to wait for it.
Our breadsticks were out in less than 5 minutes. The pizza came out after I'd eaten 1 breadstick. Staff was super friendly. I liked how if we needed something other waiters/waitresses would help you even if it wasn't your specific waitress/waiter. I like that.
Really, the prices weren't more than any other decent pizza place, and it was delicious. -

So I just moved here from Chicago and I can sometimes be a food snob (just saying). But I wanted to write (as if they need it) while I'm still licking the dressing from my fingers....awesome!
I know crappy Italian, mediocre, and so so.... I also know damn good and I will throw my hat in that ring on this one!
I started with the spinach salad. They didn't skimp on anything. Lotsa bacon and tomatoes and their dressing reminds me of a little whole in the wall back home where everything was always so freaking perfect.
Sigh.....
For my entree I had the Baked penne with eggplant and everything was to perfection. Al'dente pasta, it didn't get mushy on the wait. Lotsa toppings (just like with my salad).
I'm totally sated and this will be on my regulars list. The menu is firmly affixed to the fridge. Score! -

Very unlikely Amici's. The pizza was small, greasy and cold when it was delivered. The delivery was fast though. For $20+ I expected better.

Review from Glenn G.
Amici's East Coast Pizzeria is a slightly above average pizza joint that claims to be "The Best Pizza West of New York" - it ain't; not even close.
All in all, the pizza at Amici's is really pretty good. Tasty, fresh ingredients, crispy thin crust, with fairly good salads and side dishes to round out the menu. Let's drill down to why this place only gets three stars:
1) The size of the slices. I'm a pizza aficionado, and I grew up eating NY pizza. These slices are just too darn small - one slice of Amici's is about the equivalent of half a slice of real NY pizza in size.
2) With NY pizza, the crust is supposed to be thicker on the edges, and these slices are just too small (have I mentioned that already?). The quintessential NY pizza is a simple slice of cheese pizza that's sized and shaped a certain way, and I think that Amici's falls short here.
3) NY pizzas are known for the crispy crust. Amici's gets this right about 70% of the time. The other 30% of the time, the crust is burnt.
I know this review sounds negative, but I actually do enjoy Amici's most of the time. The combination pizzas are good enough. Creative pies, again with fresh toppings. However, unless you work for their marketing department, Amici's is not the best pizza west of NY . . . it's just good pizza, and that's not a bad thing.Listed in: Pizza

Los Altos, CA
Hmmm, almost 4 stars. My kids like this pizza the best, and the kids menu has several good pasta options (how can you go wrong with buttered noodles). We've been at least 4 times in recent memory, and as I type this, I cannot remember what their pizza tastes like. And that's just it in a nutshell: this pizza is not tasty enough to be memorable even though every time I leave I have a vague sense that I enjoyed the meal. Maybe it's the dining experience, including the atmosphere and service. And even though there aren't white table cloths, the atmosphere feels nice enough to warrant them. That, and the ingredients seem to be of a higher caliber than your standard pizza joint (and the prices reflect as much).
I may have to go again and boost this place up to 4 stars.
As others have mentioned, Amicis is not cheap. -

Los Gatos, CA
While lying around watching football all day and seeing numerous commercials about pizza I started to work up quite the appetite. Being from the east coast originally I am a bit picky about pizza and had heard good things about Amici's. By about 7PM I was starving and decided to give it a shot. Started out with a garden salad, which was, well, a garden salad. It was a good sized plate and fresh veggies.
All seemed well up until this point and my stomach was growling and mouth watering over the pizza that was being brought over. It was set down on the table and I was officially starving. I ordered the Trentino and it looked GOOOD. I quickly cut a slice, threw it on my plate and took a huge bite. Then, it was like a nightmare came in, swift, strong and pungent. I really can't explain it. Usually when I am that hungry its hard for me to fairly assess the quality of food because I would be happy with just about anything. Well, this was anything. I really can't describe the taste but it almost had a funk. I mean, no flavor, just a funk. I tasted the spinach individually. I thought maybe they threw sour basil on instead of spinach but no, it was spinach. The sausage was rubbery, and the crust was almost a bit raw. No crisp, no crunch no flavor. I was utterly disappointed. No, i'm serious. I felt depressed the rest of the night. I will never, EVER go back to Amici's. I love pizza and when I'm starving I love just about anything. In the end I would have been very happy eating a frozen pizza from safeway over the pie I had at Amici's. -

Delicious pizza and salads.
I've been eating here for over a decade, and it is consistently good. It's a bit sterile inside, but the service is good and the pizza is great. I recommend the Trentino, pepperoni, or plain cheese.
The spinach salad is also amazing. Chilled broccoli is one of my other favorites.
The pastas and desserts are good, but nothing special, otherwise they'd get a 5 star review even if the restaurant's interior is a little sterile.
Note: one of the pricer pizza meals you can get around here, but worth it. -
Review from Edward W.
I ordered the Antipasto Salad, New Haven White Clam and Philly Pizza.
The antipasto salad was probably the best item since it had the most flavor. The philly pizza didn't have enough onions or meat. The new haven white clam pizza had a unique taste, but couldn't really taste the clam.
TL;DR; For all the praise it gets, it seems like a pretty average pizza place. -

Mountain View, CA
Amazing New York style pizza.
Why 3 stars? A large pizza comes out to $30 delivered. While I don't mind paying that for Maldonados or for some of the other 'boutique' pizzas, this is NY thin crust. It's 1/3 the mass of a decent California style pizza.
I love it, but the value for the dollar isn't there. There is as much topping on a pizza here as Maldanados's would put on 2 slices, maybe less.
Very delicious pizza, but a Large really only serves 2.
Kinda reminded me of Goat Hill Pizza in SF due to a traditional NY thin crust... -
Review from Local S.
Mountain View, CA
Small Bay-Area _premium_ pizza-parlor chain from SF, opened in MV a decade ago. Unusually high-quality toppings, adept hand-tossed crusts cooked toasty in a brick oven, stunningly efficient delivery service. Pricey. (A harmless "New York" marketing gimmick isn't taken seriously by real pizza enthusiasts, who don't dwell on it either. Amici's has strengths of its own, which I'll try to summarize here from 10 years' experience.)
Order fulfillment seems well honed. I clock pizza delivery times. In about 30 delivery orders over the years, I found Amici's arriving 1-2 miles away in 16 to 19 minutes after the call, routinely. Rarely, at busy times, it took 25. I've tried every delivering pizzeria in MV (contrary to another reviewer's misconception, 12 pizzerias deliver in the same area). No other has such execution and quality together -- or such high prices.
Zpizza (relatively new) and Fast Pizza Delivery are closest local competition in my experience (each different in style, but both more pizza for the money). Locally only "Cucina di" Pizzeria Venti and Napoletana Pizzeria charge more for a given size, and neither is a US-style pizzeria at all, both operate literally under Italian rules. Venti is a frenchise controlled from Tuscany. Napoletana is a rare wood-fired, "Vera Pizza Napoletana"-licensed, true-Neapolitan pizzeria (like A16 in SF) -- the Real Deal, the world's original pizzas -- and doesn't make US pizzas at all. (In Italy, these are considered foreign inventions: Sliced pizza, pizza too big to fit on a dinner plate, and pepperoni.)
Try ordering, say, an Amici's mushroom-and-garlic pizza in person, and watch the execution. (Fresh garlic's free, roasted garlic charged as a topping.) Pizza comes from the oven sizzling, is dusted with fresh chopped green herbs (a tasteful touch!), and is sliced in a second or two.
To know Amici's, you must experience its unique exquisite house combinations. The Philly (choose the "hot" sausage option) and Trentino (unusual combination, no tomato sauce, drizzled with Meyer lemon oil) are great IMO, and dangerously popular at parties (speaking as someone who's paid the bill ...) Unlike many pizzerias, Amici's also offers some good non-pizza items that are more than just an afterthought-- linguini with pesto, cold broccoli salad dressed with olive oil and lemon juice, meatballs, etc. -- all at their best when consumed on-site, and very good for a family dinner or a crowd, -

Possibly one of the worst pizza's I ever had in my life. Too thin, and soggy. Salad was o.k. I would never go back. I don't see how this place has KGO radio telling listeners it is the best, when clearly it isn't. went during the week, so wasn't that busy. wait staff was pretty friendly, and nice location, so I'm still in search of a good pizza.

Clovis, CA
This review is based purely on the quality of food and not the service.
I am not a fan of pizza, but it can be enjoyable to me if it is hot, fresh out of the oven, and I can still see the cheese melting.
Amici's gives you none of that.
My boyfriend's family claims that this is the best pizza ever, so at a get together, we ordered some. We told them that we would be there at 6:15 PM, and we were on time. Luckily they had the pizza ready. We ate it about 10 minutes after that and the pizza, to say the least was awful.
We ordered a large Amici's combo, a large spicy pepper chicken, and a small new haven clam something. The new haven clam was so burnt and dry that it tasted like a seafoody cardboard. The others were also burnt and dry, the chicken had absolutely no flavor to it. The combo was not really a combo, all it had was olives and pepperoni from what I remember, and I don't like olives, so I basically ate a pepperoni pizza. The one good thing I can say is that the pepperonis were pretty flavorful.
These 2 large pizzas and one small came out to ~$70. REALLY? For pizza?! I would literally not eat this pizza for free. -
Review from Kris I.
Amici's is a chain of classy pizza eateries, and the ones I've been to are pretty noms.
Random but delicious things to note? Their chilled broccoli with olive oil and lemon juice - try it! Also, my dad randomly order linguine with olive oil and fresh garlic. So simple, but SO GOOD. So good. I would go back to Amici's in a heartbeat just for those two things. -
Review from Ryan L.
Last night a friend and I met up in Mountainview for dinner as we figured that Mountainview was about 1/2 way in between.
We walked in and were seated by the window. I was grateful we weren't seated in the back near the children. There were a lot of children. I don't really like the children of strangers. Our server arrived after a minute. She was very nice, prompt and professional. I like her. In my mind I'm pretending it was Portia Di Rossi, but it wasn't. I wish it was. That would have been a story.
The menu consists of pizza, pasta and salads. It's named an "East Coast" pizzeria. I'm always interested in regional style and variations of pizza. I wasn't sure what an East Coast pizza was. I figured it wasn't New York style, otherwise it would say "Amici's New York Style Pizzeria." Half of the menu features pizzas without sauce and two of the pizzas have clams: New Haven White Clam and Manhattan Red Clam. Based on this I figured this was a chain that attempted to imitate the New Haven style of pizza, considered one of the best in the country. Side note: the website "a taste of New York" but I don't think this is New York style pizza. After trying the pizza, I believe that it is the New Haven style, but not a good iteration. The menu has many interesting toppings and unique pizza options.
My dining companion and I settled on the Amici's combo. The crust was thin and darkened from their brick oven. I'm not sure what heat source was used but I don't believe that it's the coal of the New Haven pizzerias. The crust was very thin and crisp, but it didn't have the chewiness that I like or the flavor. I think it was overcooked. The toppings were abundant but it didn't have much cheese. The sauce was decent but not remarkable. I mostly just tasted the complimentary crushed garlic added to the pizza for free.
My friend remarked that the pizza was cold before we were finished eating. It was true. It was room temperature almost immediately. It was never "piping hot" like pizza right out of the oven should be.
The side salad was quite delightful, but I guess it should be for $5. The total bill came to almost $40 with two side salads, a medium pizza, and tip. I thought this was a little expensive for a pizza that was not huge or that amazing.
In the end, I enjoyed the company and had a good time. is this the best pizza? No way. I liked the service though the atmosphere felt just a step up from fast food. I think it was too bright and cold inside. I wouldn't object if someone wanted to come here, but I'm not aching to return. -

Our favorite pizza in northern CA. All locations are consistent. Delicious thin, crispy crust. Always great service. We usually start with the spinach salad and get the spicy pepper chicken pizza. And their linguine is my favorite pasta around, when I opt for that. At this particular location, the west end of the restaurant -- closer to the pizza oven -- is less drafty in the winter than the east end.

I heard about Amici's and how great their pizza was, so I decided to visit. However, the pizza was not up to par. Frist off, there was a long wait for the pizza to come out of the oven even though the place was not to busy.
The pizza was burnt, and didn't have much flavor. Kinda reminded me of school pizza. Much better places to visit for better pizza. -

I love amicis... but this location didn't make them as I remember. Was too dry and crispy.
I usually eat the crust, but this time it was not good. 3 Stars for reputation, but this review is just for this location and the takeout.
The restaurant itself is nice and clean with good service. Some Amici's offer coupons, which would have to be offered for me to eat at this location again.
Cannot justify 25.95 for a mediocre large pizza.... round table will be the one until this places offers some sort of deal
