Review from Erin M.
I was excited to try Amica's as the reviews were great and the lobby was crowded, and it turns out everyone is right!
I had lasagna and my husband had pizza. Both were incredible. Both the lasagna and pizza were peppered with spicy sausage, loads of cheese and lots of flavor. The house salad that came with my lasagna was generously portioned and was loaded with veggies and drizzled in delicious olive oil. The garlic bread that came with the lasagna was also tasty, and it was light and crisp without bieng a bit greasy. The pizza was good and the olive oild to dip the crust in was even better! I don't think I sampled anything that wasn't great, and next timeI come back I plan to leave room for dessert, as the menu looked incredible.
The service was also great-attentive and helpful and suggested the Bomber Blonde, which was a great wheat bear with just the right hint of citrus. The atmospheres also fun-natural light, high ceilings, fun colors and clean restrooms.
We aren't in Salida often, bt will certainly come back next time we are! -
Review from Remi L.

The good: Pizza, beer, atmosphere...could've gotten a higher rating except:
The bad: Cooked in hair, dropped (and not washed) cooking utensils.
The story:
After reading the reviews, the hunting party and I decided this would be the place to eat our last civilized meal before traipsing into the woods after elk. Wonderful atmosphere, good pizza menu and an okay microbrew selection.
With a packed house, it took quite a bit of time (over 30 minutes to get drinks and our order in), we were thinking we'd have to fend for ourselves and start gnawing on toes and fingers. After getting the pizzas ordered (2 mediums) we started to relax and enjoy our evening. Then things got gross...
The kitchen is open, and you can watch the pizzas go into the oven. Pretty neat. However, an open kitchen means patrons can hear and see an employee drop the giant pizza spatula on the ground, then promptly put it back on the counter for the next guy to use...WITHOUT washing it. Eeeeeeeeeeeeewww!!!!
Then the pizza arrived. We were ecstatic to dig in. We quickly made it three-quarters of the way through the meal when my dining companion pulled out a hair. Not just any hair but a long, semi-curly blonde hair. With one guest having short grey old man hair, my dining colleague with looooong straight black hair, and myself having rather short brown hair, we knew it didn't belong to us.
After 10 minutes of not getting our waitress' attention, the manager happened to walk past where we could wave him down. Thankfully, he offered to make it right with a full refund of the pizzas (beer and tax excluded) and offering to make us another pizza, we felt mollified.
Dropped spatula and cooked in hair withstanding...it was pretty decent. If I'm ever back that way, I would consider eating here again, and might even rerate them with a higher score! -

Another great visit to Amicas!
We stop in Amicas every time we go thru Salida. Sure, it's a 5-mile detour from Hwy 285 on the way to (and from) Denver, but it's worth it.
We were going light on beers that day. Sampled the IPA and Red. Both were nice clean, refreshing and tasty beers. Wish I wasn't the driver!
We ordered the Spinach Salad and a small Pepperoni Pizza. Once again the service was prompt and efficient. Spinach salad come out very quickly, which was fine because we were starved. The spinach was fresh & flavorful. The pesto sauce is awesome. That, along with the roasted red peppers, real pinon nuts and Gorgonzola cheese, makes for a great combination of flavors. FYI - It's our favorite salad and we order it every visit.
The pizza came out shortly (about the time we were halfway done with our salad,) which was fine because I was hankering for a slice to go with my greenery.
The crust was perhaps a bit lighter and thinner than previous visits. The sauce was bit light too. But, the those light flavors allowed the pepperoni to shine. And, it is the star ingredient to this pie. FYI - it's special large format-pepperoni (may 2" across - almost like narrow salami) that has an awesome spicy flavor! Some THE best pepperoni I've tasted... (remind self: next visit ask where I can buy some!)

This pizza is awesome. Fresh, hot, crispy and tasty. Grab a growler of the green chili beer while your there!
The varieties of pizzas are really good, service is fast, and the microbrew beer is outstanding! Pizza is nice and thin, crispy and really damned tasty.
If you get through Salida CO, this is a definite place to stop for a bite and beer. -

Oh my Gosh. This place was excellent. The pizza was so good and my husband really enjoyed the beer. We stopped in on our way back to Castle Rock from the Great Sand Dunes National Park. It was a long drive, but I am looking forward to the next time we get to stop in.

Salida, CO
Beers are excellent. The salads are fantastic. And the pizza comes in pretty close to a New York style pizza but without the heal (flat) or size. It's not NY pizza but one will be satisfied. Wait staff are extremely friendly. Amicas is a guarantee of good food and service.

Review from Ashley F.
We were on the first leg of a massive road trip, and Amicas was the first restaurant we found along the way. What a way to start a trip! My mom and I split the Pan E Porco Tirato and the Insalata Spinaci. We also both had a glass of the homebrewed root beer.
The salad was really great, if slightly overdressed. It was easy to look past the excess dressing because the flavors were so bright and zesty. Mmm! I could eat that salad every day.
The Pan e Porco Tirato is so rich and sinful, it knocked our socks off. Out of all the great restaurants I've ate at, I think I can say this is the best sandwich I have ever had. Each bite sings with it's own flavor combination. What a great idea to put cream cheese on pulled pork. It's not soppy with the cream cheese, it's just enough to glue all the flavors together.
The root beer was also great, so was the service. Solid five stars. -
Review from Barb B.
Best woodfired pizza we've had, excellent microbrewed beer and friendly local conversation. We sat at the bar because the place was packed and we just got lucky that the seats opened up.
Along with the great Yelp reviews, the local mountaineering store recommended Amicas also. -
Review from Peter P.

Awesome restaurant. We regularly take a drive to Salida just to wander around and eat at Amicas. Pizzas are great, great salads (suggest the Antipasta), and great microbrews (I recommend the Green Chili Ale if it's there, but everything I've gotten has been great).
Service is remarkably good for how busy they usually are. They give you a buzzer if there's a wait, and it works within about a block so you don't have to sit around in the waiting area. Usually they beat their estimate by 30%.
Spicy olive oil is awesome, too! -

This restaurant has the most accommodating, helpful staff. While on a several hour road trip our party of three was looking for a restaurant which caters to both vegans and non... and it was late on a weekday. They stayed open long enough for us to enjoy our meal which we ordered by phone and they were incredibly welcoming in remaining open while we ate. Thank you!
The food was amazing. While they do not offer a cheese substitute, they made every effort to adjust their menu to suit. Even cheese-less, their veggie calzone was tasty...and enormous. We also ordered another calzone from their menu as well as the Insalata Amicas which had the perfect amount of dressing, walnuts and Gorgonzola. The smaller menu portion was big enough for me to fill up on for dinner (as my entree) and to save the rest for lunch the next day. Because of the light dressing it didn't become overly soggy as leftovers.
Oh yeah... LOVE the decor! The murals in the second room add great character to the place.
I guarantee the next time I'm in Salida I will eat here. No doubt. And I will definitely take the time to try their selection of house brews. -

Review from cindy b.
The five is for atmosphere, including the calm, friendly and helpful front manager who controlled heavy traffic, discussed wine selections, and manned the register; and for the conversation of a fascinating and attractive single lady who rides bikes, teaches preschool, and launched a revealing discussion of her dates based on their astrological tendencies...
Also a five for the wonderful soup and salad I ate at the bar/counter and the stupendous chocolate cannoli made there It was that perfect darkish chocolate that, even after eating the entire thing, did not make me queasy from too much sugar. The shell had taken on that rather tough texture from being refrigerated with the filling in it but what the hey. This is a great food/beer/wine social spot with the hip crowd and they are now starting to do gourmet dinners by their chef. Tonight's special was lambchops and scallops but you have to reserve 3 days ahead.
Don't miss it. -
Review from Kit K.

We got salad, pizza, cafe mocha, beer, and peanut butter mousse. The food was tasty, and unique. It took us 20mins to get our dessert. They didn't ask us if we wanted another cafe mocha, or beer. Didn't get asked for water in the beginning. $7 for a slice of peanut butter mousse cake..a bit much for a slice..Prices are better at Il Vicino in Denver.

Denver, CO
Vegetarian - friendly
Vegan - salads
Service - excellent and friendly
The beer deserves 5 stars. The Chili beer (when they haven't run out) is by far the best chili beer I have had. We go to Salida for Amica's chilia beer alone. Last time they were out of it and I ordered the beer sampler. Beware, if you are going to drive don't order it as it is VERY generous. The imperial stout was fabulous, the Belgian beer one of the best outside of Belgium (spent lots of time in Belgium), and the IPA was great.
The food varies. We have had great pizza and salad and just good servings of the same items. Their hot oil is worth taking home. Portions are generous.
Service has been good and friendly.
Only drawback is it closes early (9PM). -
Review from marc s.
Hit this on my mtn biking/rafting trip in colorado. This is a totally cool place with awesome microbrews and pizza.
I went with the expresso flavored microbrew, 5.5%. Very tasty and different, bitter, dark, with a distinct expresso flavor. Awesome.
Hit the goat cheese pizza (#13) with veggies and ham. Also really, really good. I was splitting with a friend and I managed to snag an extra piece by looking really hungry. I wasn't really hungry but the pizza was so good I thought I was. Everyone else in my party ordered a variety of pizzas and everyone was extremely happy with their choices.
The service was great, very friendly and fun. We got there late when they were closing but they seated us anyways.
This is an absolute must, must, place to eat and drink in Salida. -

A must stop when in Salida. Nothing here is OK - it's all good! Pizza is thin crust and the sauce is great. Soups, salads and lasagna all are high quality. On top of this, there is a GABF award winning brew pub. Today they had 3 different IPAs on tap!

Review from Brett R.
I have been here several times over the past 10 years or so and even over long absences - it still remains as primo as ever. Excellent micro brews and delicious wood fired pizza. Not to mention settled in a quaint downtown area of one of the most beautiful cites in Colorado. This place definitely has a style of its own, always packed and full of tourists but don't let that detour you. Oh and the prices of their Micro brews are some of the most reasonable I have seen. Around the same price I pay in Denver for a domestic pitcher. After you grab a bite head down to the Arkansas river and watch the kayaks navigate the rivers training course. Great town and great place to grab a slice and a brew!

WOW, just WOW.
Heard good things about this place, but was not expecting to have my pants knocked off.
The pizza was great, so good in fact, I ate there two night in a row. I had the margharita both nights and it was perfect both times. I did have some burnt crust on the second night, but I almost expect that with a wood fired oven. Even the burnt part tasted good, and it was made even better by their spicy oil. I could have almost bathed in it, it was so good. But a take home bottle was a bit pricey at almost $20 for 16 oz. But they just give it away at the table. For me. it was the pizza sauce that brought it all together.
The beer was great and far better than expected. Maybe it was because I had been shooting in the sun all day, but everything on the flight, at $8, was great. You get 7 of their beers and about a 6 oz pour on each. My only complaint was that the beers did not have much of a nose. But aside from that all were great.
If work or travel ever lets me return to Salida, I will be back with a vengeance!! -

Aurora, CO
Hands down this place rocks! It was some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. Be sure and order a freshly brewed micro-brew or a homemade root beer to wash down all the wonderful flavors. One of the things I really liked about Amicas was you can order a lunch sized portion or a whole pizza anytime during the day. This made it easy for everyone to order just what they wanted. Whenever you find yourself in Salida, Amicas is a MUST stop.
I am planning a trip back to Salida to take my kiddos snowboarding on Monarch and so I can go back to Amicas! -
Review from Mnason M.
Olathe, KS
This place is great! I'm sad because I'm in Kansas City and this joint is in Colorado. My family and I always look forward to stopping by here several times during our family ski trip when we're at Monarch. We've actually been known to travel from Dillon just to eat here when we ski elsewhere.
Service has always been good. Sometimes a little slow but that is expected on busy nights. Expect to wait a few minutes during busy hours. It is okay since it is well worth it.
The pizza has a great wood fire flavor on a thin crust with plenty of interesting styles and toppings to choose from. I suggest you think outside of normal pizza toppings.
The beer is good too! Sometimes they have some rather interesting in-house brews available, like chili beer. I really fancy their oatmeal stout when they have it.
Summary:
* Good service
* Great wood fire pizza and microbrew
* Nice interior
* Great place to refuel after a day on the slopes! -

Denver, CO
Wonderful staff, excellent food and genuine friendly environment. We were traveling from Denver to Pagosa and knew that we needed to find food fast before our options were gone. As a vegan the task of finding food on the road is always a challenge! We called ahead to inquire as to any vegan options they had available and they were able to provide a few. They offered to make me a pizza without cheese or a calzone. They had a few delicious salads as well. I went with a calzone. It was very large and delicious. The artichokes were some of the best I've had in a long time. They also offered to stay open a little later than they normally do so that we could make it to Salida and eat! What a great experience. I highly recommend this place. Everyone that was with me truly enjoyed their food as well. The wine selection is interesting too. Definitely five stars. The art on the walls was adorable the restrooms were comfortable. The bar was enjoyable.

Review from Homer S.
Boulder, CO
Hovering between 2 and 3 stars. Really wanting to go with 2-1/2. Here's why:
Ratings very high for service, ambience, concept, attentiveness. Cool idea for a cafe.
But...the food is uneven at best, terrifically bad at worst.
The pepperoni pizza for starters: Yes, it's wood fired. But anything can be thrown into a fire pit; doesn't mean it should necessarily be served or consumed. The crust was completely flavorless, texture without sensation. Strange experience. The sauce, on the other hand, was so strongly herbaceous (weird version of oregano?), that the pizza could not be finished.
And we eat a lot of pizza. A lot of really good, wood-fired, delicious pizza, at multiple shops in different cities. This was the worst we ever tasted.
The grilled cheese was a good idea in theory, panini'd slices of good bread with a promise of cheese between. The promise was nearly hollow. Just enough cheese to glue the bread together, but not enough to legally qualify as a sandwich. No, I mean nearly invisible. And this is a kid's meal? Try and ask a 3-year old to eat a thick mouthful of toothsome, grilled bread, telling him there's cheese within (essentially a lie). Didn't work with my offspring, doubt it would be successful with anyone, frankly. Really not food.
The other items, a pulled pork sandwich, on grilled panini, with a nice combo of cream cheese, caramelized onions, and jalapeño, as well as a margherita pizza, were actually OK...but not delicious. The pizza was, strangely, devoid of he unusual odors we experienced with the pepperoni pie, but the crust was the same...flavorless.
Not sure what the problem is here, but I can't get past the possibility that the menu, and the cooking, are results of a consultant, and not tried and true, deeply-flavored, killer recipes.
Relatively boring, chain restaurant food.
Dang, I wish this weren't the case. Everyone else seems to love the place. But we've been twice, and the food was so unsatisfying both times, I felt kinda guilty spending family money. -
Review from Tina C.
If I lived in Salida I would eat here all the time! With such a great atmosphere it is a perfect spot to get a drink and relax. They have great pizza and the desert menu is amazing. The pizza has a thin crust which is still substantial enough to hold the yummy toppings - just the way I like it . There are lots of topping combos to choose from with something to please everyone. Amicas = Amore!

Review from Kate K.
Food is pretty good, atmosphere is decent, but service was lacking.
Weird setup, also. You walk in, the menu is on the wall, and you order. You pay, including tip, and then have a seat and a server takes care of you from there. Maybe it's just me, but you're going to lose out on tip if I have to pay it prior to receiving ANY service. Not to mention my incessant love for drinking water was apparently a major inconvenience for the waitstaff. They disdainfully filled my glass two times, and then last time, without a word, SLAMMED down a pitcher of water on the table.
Gee, thanks. Sorry for making you do your job.
Bottom line: Great food, shitty service, won't be back.
On the plus side, they do offer wheat and gluten-free items for an extra cost. -

We rolled into Salida, CO on our way back from Telluride looking for a delicious late lunch and an equally delicious hoppy beverage. We were told we'd find both at Amicas after asking some locals for a good lunch spot. And we did.
It took forever for members of our party to pick out a pizza from the large variety available, but each was more than happy with their choice. I ordered the lasagna and it was brought to our table still bubbling. Ridiculous cheesy goodness.
The brews were great. I was especially pleased with my IPA. So much so, that I bought a growler of it for $11. The brown ale was also pretty tasty.
I agree with Katie K. that the setup was pretty weird, but perhaps it was just confusing for our first time there. Service wasn't terrible. Overall, I think all that Amicas is missing is some outdoor seating. -
Review from Tom W.
Sachse, TX
I agree with other reviewers, the ordering process is a bit strange. Why not have full wait service? It would make life easier and I bet the wait staff would see better tips.
The food was good... just don't expect NY or Chicago style pizza... it's more of a thin crust California style pizza with unique toppings and sauces. More of the Fireside Pies style (if you're from Dallas), but Fireside definitely has Amicas beat.
The service was ok... the waitress was nice, but the woman at the register was a bit short with everyone. In the end she took care of us, but just wasn't very welcoming like you would expect someone in the service business to be. -

The pizza's decent, the lunch size is almost splittable by two. A true microbrewery, so a point for that. IPA and Pale Ale were both good.

Colorado Springs, CO
Good pizza, thin crust, a little greasy but still very tasty. They do close at 9ish, but when we slid into town at 9:10 the Sunday night before Memorial Day and nothing else was open, they were more than happy to make us a couple of pizzas to go and they were QUICK (less than10 min) so we were more than happy. $22 for two 12 inch pizzas. Be warned: I've never been in this place on a weekend when it wasn't crowded, and it's a small town place, so don't get in a hurry if it's crowded.

Good Pizza, Better Beer! While making a pit stop in Salida on our way to raft the gorge we stopped in at Amica's for a frosty beverage and a slice of pie. The atmosphere while busy was very laid back. There was a mix of families and singles, but everyone seemed to mesh quite well. Service was quick and the pizza was good, but in our opinion the beer was where they shined! Not really a bad beer, i suggest the sampler if you have time and the dime.

Awesome pizza. I try to go there every time Im in Salida. Friends who live there took me to Amicas first time, than I just had to bring more people every time I travel there :) My husband also loved it and his is picky about this pizza. I love the fresh spinach salad. Pizza is fresh and crispy. They have their own brewery.

Fabulous pizza and salads, good microbrew, extremely friendly and helpful waitstaff. Shorter wait than originally forecast. Overall very enjoyable atmosphere and on my top 10 list of pizzas internationally. Excellent cracker thin crust with an array of interesting toppings and beers to match. Salad was amazing.
I would recommend it to anyone visiting Salida. -

Yes the Ordering is odd. You stand in line right when you get inside the door (if you can get inside the door) But, it is worth it.
Bang for your Buck - A+
Service - okay at best (one lady works her rear off trying to take care of 20 tables)
Food - Out-freakin-standing (we went back for a second helping during our week stay in salida)
The pizza is outstanding and salads are just about x-rated good.
The atomspherer is unique and very cool
The place brews their own beer and the selection is very unique.
All this to say it is a for sure 5 star selection and I am very stingy to give out the 5 star rating.
Two more points
1. The spicy olive oil on the tables is worth selling off your family name
2. The price of all the entrees are like a throw back to the 20th century. -

I love Amica's. The margherita pizza is delicious. The salads are generous in size. Heck, I even loved the strawberry cheesecake. Make sure to try their Amber Ale. The service was so composed considering I showed up there for our wedding rehearsal dinner. Yes, we called before, warning months and weeks in advance, but they don't (as most restaurants in Salida) take reservations. One of the servers is the co-owner of the Simple Lodge and Hostel and she thanked us for booking up her hotel for the weekend with our wedding guests. I always go to Amica's. Consistent, thin crust pizza. Good atmosphere.
