I was really happy when my little goddaughter opened the box beaming - there was a treat she could eat! She can't have dairy - and they have a vegan mini cake. I wouldn't dare take a bite from her so I have never tried it, but I ended up getting a few that her mom cut into tasting portions for the adults -

Tiramisu - was airy and yummy
Mango Guava - had a good taste - I might have to try it again
    Pistachio (eggless) -  tasty.
Chocolate Decadence - very chocolatey and rich. mmm.

The young man helping me was great at helping me pick out a few and showed me other vegan options in case I ever wanted to place an order. Mini cakes: good.
    I haven't tried their cupcakes.

I was really disappointed in their red velvet. My ex boyfriend (fucking douchebag) got me a red velvet cake from here and to be honest, it tasted like an asian spongecake with a hint of that red velvet taste. The color of the cake is also this abnormal red/orange color, not a deep red like at Sprinkles or Nothing Bundt Cakes. I've tried a couple of their other cupcakes, too. They are whatevz.

Also, from all the times I've been here, service has been absolutely awful. They push you to hurry up and make your decision and most of the time I've had to wait their for atleast 10 minutes before someone came to help me. How annoying.

It's whatevers. I wouldn't go out of my way to get a cake or cupcake or anything here.

If I can give ZERO stars, I would.  The only good thing about Amia is that they gave me a full refund!

I went into the store on a MONDAY to order a cake that was to be picked up on the very next SATURDAY @ 3pm.  This cake was for my boss' FAREWELL party, intended to feed 30-40 people.  I told the young man & baker which cake flavor i wanted, what color font i wanted (masculine colors because my boss is a MAN) & i requested FRESH fruit be placed on top.

The young man at the counter and the baker were both very nice and confirmed all of my requests.  I ordered the cake & was given a receipt that had the pick-up date & time written on the top.

I come back on the pick-up day @ 2:45 (i thought i'd arrive a lil' early).  The store was empty but the baker was there (the same baker i spoke with last monday).  I told him i was there to pick up the cake, showed him my receipt.  I saw him look in one refrigerator for the cake, no cake there.  I saw him look in another refrigerator for the cake, not there either.  This guy looked in 3 different places & i saw a look of panic come over him.  He went to the back to make a phone call, spoke in another language and came back out search ALL of the racks.  No cake anywhere!!

Finally i said, " the cake isn't here huh?" He said, no it isn't.  Apparently, FOR SOME REASON there was a mix up and they thought i was picking the cake up on MONDAY eventhough the pick-up date was clearly for SATURDAY!  He assures me that he can make a quality cake within a few hours AND he'll even deliver it.  I tell him i need the cake by 8pm & it needs to be delivered to Dublin.  He agrees and assures me everything will be ok & all my original design requests will be met.

At 7:30pm, a woman calls me to tell me she is outside of my workplace with the cake! I think, "awesome, just in time!" I was in a hurry, so i jammed out to the parking lot, slipped her $10 for her time, grabbed the cake and went inside.

O-M-G.  I get inside, lifted the top off the box & nearly LOST MY MIND.  The cake was pink, yellow & purple! Fresh fruit?!? no where to be found! The guy DREW flowers on the cake, there were NO fresh fruit.  The cake obviously took a beating during the ride over because the sides were all smashed in and part of the message was missing because the top of the box was rubbing against the font.

It was horrible.  I was so embarrassed to show this to my coworkers, but even more so, i was embarrassed that this crap cake was meant to be a farewell to an outstanding boss.

I called the bakery and spoke specifically to the baker.  he made no excuses and immediately said he'd refund me the whole price.  this alleviated SOME of the disappointment, but I was still out $10 that i gave the driver!

    Never again.

I wanted to try Amia Bakery as they are listed in Foodspotting's Bay Area Cupcakes guide...and I'm totally confused as to why.

    They only had five flavors:
    1. Chocolate with Chocolate Cream
    2. Chocolate with Vanilla Cream
    3. Vanilla with Chocolate Cream
    4. Vanilla with Vanilla Cream
    5. Red Velvet

As a chocolate lover, I picked a Chocolate with Chocolate Cream.  As I removed the cupcake from the box, the cupcake appeared to be totally home-made.  Nothing wrong with home-made, but if you're buying something from a bakery, it should look professionally made.

The icing (buttercream) seemed to have been piped onto a sheet instead of directly onto the cupcake.  The bottom of the icing was flat and did not contoured to the curve of the top of the cupcake.  The icing was clearly removed from another cupcake as there were crumbs of a white cake stuck to the bottom of the icing.  Which probably explains why it was almost fully covered with fingerprints.  At least it was glove-covered fingerprints.

Biting into the icing was like biting through a sweetened stick of butter straight from the fridge.  The only reason why Amia gets 1-star is because the chocolate cake itself was moist and not overly sweet.  However, it was still not worth the $2.50.

My wife wanted to do a Aladdin theme party for my son's first birthday and she bumped into a castle cake. We went to so many places but everyone was like no so confident. Then we came to know about this place and met Anh. He looked at the pic and coordinated with me. He was confident that he and his wonderful crew would make it happen.

They were so professional in dealing with this. They also suggested many things on top of  the picture that was shown.

On the day when we saw the castle cake we were awestruck. It was a a jaw dropping work by them. Awesome and amazing job. They did exactly what we wanted. Everyone loved it

I would recommend everyone in Fremont to come to this place for all custom cake. Their price is reasonable and their work makes  you happy.

Good job Anh and your team. We recommend the world that you guys are one stop shop for this work

    Love you

    Cheers,
    Nitin

I was shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond the other day and decided to try Amia (which was located just next door). Lately, I've been somewhat obsessed with sugar-free products that I wanted to see what they had to offer - at that time of the day (mid-morning), the only sugar-free dessert they had was a single sliced chocolate cake. For something that contained no sugar - it was surprisingly rich! It was priced just a little under $5 (hmmm... not what I consider moderate or reasonable as far as price is concerned) but it wasnt too bad.

I'm not too sure yet if this place deserves a 3 star rating because I've heard that they also serve a variety of good deli sandwiches and good breads. Perhaps I should come back....

ONLY BECAUSE NO STARS IS AN OPTION.

very disappointed with this place after all the high remarks.

ordered a cake for my sons baptism and it was to be delivered at the fremont community center but they forgot to deliver it. If it wasn't for a phone call from my wife,  it would have been at the shop still because someone did not read the receipt correctly.

So i had my cousin pick it up. When she got to the bakery she told me that the cake had no decorations and his named spelled incorrectly and when they tried to fix it they FAILED! making the cake look cheap and did not put any effort in making the cake for my son.

We did get a full refund. But just the fact that it was his Baptism and how they can just forget something like that to deliver was disappointing to my wife and I.

I WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN!

Was wanting a cupcake really bad after watching Cupcake Wars and this was the closet place near my work.  Seeing the reviews on yelp decided to give this place a try. For me the experience was just mediocre.  I just ordered a regular vanilla cupcake and a red velvet one.  The vanilla was a little bland and dry.  No wow factor and I dont think I will come back for cupcakes but maybe their sandwiches since it looked delicious.

This review is about the Dairy Strawberry Parfait.

So I have been running all over Fremont all week looking for a strawberry parfait. I don't understand why there are five bakeries in Fremont and I found only one that makes a parfait. I found this one and texted a pic of the parfait to my wife yesterday we end up going here today. I had to leave a review here to warn people about my experience I feel it would be wrong of me to not. First we walk in to Amia Bakery with only one other costumer standing in front of the showcase looking at deserts. There were five people working there two were working on a cake the other three just stood there birdwatching every time i raised my hand or made eye contact they would look in a different direction. I realized the only way my wife and I would be eating a strawberry parfait would be to shout at someone so I did. Once we sat down in the dark, dirty unmaintained corner of seating we took a couple bites of the parfait to discover underneath the whipped cream topping was.... the best I can describe it was spoiled sour milk with soggy leftover vanilla cake chunks. There were no layers as parfaits have layers like a cake in a cup it was just a spoiled milk soup. it has been three hours since I have eaten the parfait and my stomach is still upset. I suspect the parfaits are made in the early morning before opening maybe even the yesterday and chilled in the showcase at an improper temperature which creates the layers to blend and spoil quickly. I can say with complete confidence the Dairy Strawberry Parfait at Amia Bakery is the absolute worst parfait I have eaten in my 28 years on this earth. If I could give this zero stars I would give it negative 2 stars.

Hands down THE BEST red velvet CAKE! Moist, rich but not heavy with tasty cream cheese that is not too thick. Just perfect.  it's too bad the cupcakes arent as delicious. In fact, it is waaaaay different than the cake rendetion. Weird. Minus one start bc preseentation could be better but the taste of the cake sure makes up for it. My husband is the hugest fan of the red velvet cake. In fact, he goes to other bakeries and they never compare to the red velvet cake here. I surprise him with a  cake here on special occcasions like his birthday and most recently, Valentine's day! Always a special treat.

I was at the hub and was hungry so I looked around for some eats.  Most everywhere around there was chain restaurants so I decided, let's try somewhere knew.  I was in the mood for a sandwich and saw a "bakery" sign so I figured i'd see if they made some.

I didn't pre-yelp this. I wanted to guess what this place got by pure taste.  At first glance, it looks like a hole in the wall that is known for its fondant styled cakes.  They have a chalk menu that had the sandwiches and coffees.  I decided to try the california sandwich instead of my usual tuna.

It came with a fresh salad.  I'm not fond of salads but this was a good one.  Had a very delicious dressing.  I bet into the sandwich and found an array of flavors that just melted in my mouth. Mushrooms, cheese, olives and guacamole.  Totally californian.

The staff was very friendly too.  I liked my lunch there.  In the future, if I'm in the hub, I'll probably eat there again.  I don't crave sandwiches normally but if I do, I know where i'd go.

Drawn in by the unique flavors of cupcakes listed on the website, I was enticed to give them a try. To my dismay upon entering Amia, none of the specialty flavors were available in the lackluster display case of baked goods and pastries. Settling with a dozen count of red velvet, banana toffee, & cherry chocolate, and a pistachio honey layered cake, I walked out hoping these selections would be tasteful enough to make up for the disappointing limited availability of what's created some hype around this local bakery.

There was no consistency in the cakes' texture or flavor. There's nothing worse than biting into something that represents a dry sponge tasting like banana. Actually, I retract that statement. There is something worse. Biting into a dry sponge with no flavor with the failed belief that there's no way one can mess up red velvet. I'll give them credit for their savory cream cheese butter cream frosting, which made it a tad more bearable to chow down the displeasing cupcake. I'll also give them credit for the bits of cherry surprise found in the chocolate cupcakes, which was a total opposite from the other two flavors - moist, rich, and divine in every way. It's difficult to understand how something that should be so similar can be so different. The pistachio honey cake was mediocre at best. While a better texture than the cupcakes, the actual pistachio flavor was missing, creating a rather milky and almost grainy taste in my mouth which I did not prefer.

What could have saved this bakery was the customer service, but even that was minimal. A somewhat warm greeting followed by uncomfortable silence as I stared at the display case contemplating if I should even bother ordering something or walking out empty handed did not alter my already tainted impression of this place. I would have appreciated a tiny spark of conversation or even a suggestion of what could possibly interest my sweet tooth craving, but his personality was as bland as the cakes. Well, there goes a whopping $34 I wish I had spent elsewhere.

I went here with my girl to try the Red Velvet Cupcakes.

They're very good, but pretty small when you look at how much they cost. At their price, I'd expect some bigger cupcakes like the ones at Sprinkles.

With that said, it's not too big of a problem. I'd probably still stop by again if I'm in the area want some more sweets.

I guess it's just me but I'm seriously not a fan of the red velvet cupcake here. It tastes like almost a sponge cake (the ones they have at asian bakeries)? I've tried coming back three times to give them another try but it's always dry on the inside/has that same weird flavor to it. Their giant chocolate chip cookies also have a strange taste to them too. I've only had that once though so it might've been an awry batch.

Great service though, the people here are very friendly.

OK, seriously I gave it another try and ordered my daughters birthday cake from here. 70+ dollars later for a small sheet cake with stock Cinderella figurines and it was awful! The bottom layer of cake was really dry, I think they burnt it. The top layer of cake was ok but still on the dry side and the mango cream was weird. lt looked exactly like a Safeway cake, and it didn't taste anywhere near as good. What a waste of money.

We ordered 3 kinds off cake for our parents' 35th wedding anniversary.
1/4 sheet each which is good for 25-30 people each sheet.  We had 75 guests, and we had more than enough!  Maybe because most of our guests are watching their sugar? hehehe

    We had:
    Tiramisu
    Red Velvet cake
    Tres Leche

I only had the red velvet cake, but I wish I had all 3.  Red velvet was super tasty!  Not too sweet, just perfect.  To top it all off, cream cheese was sooo good!  And to think, I don't like cheese.  It was superb!  Definitely will come back for a slice or sheet ;)

I recommend them for any big parties or special ocassions.  The size, price, location, service is all great!

    Taking one star off because....

I was expecting more design.  I know we didn't ask them to add any message on it or extra flowers.  But I was expecting creativity so it wouldn't look toooooo plain.  Because it looked like it was unfinished. :-/  BUT then again, its really good.

Came here after reading mixed reviews about their red velvet.

I arrived in the evening before the rain started again. I didn't feel they were pushy to buy more pastries, but I also knew what I was there for and didn't ask many questions.

I have always known the Red Velvet to have a hint of cocoa in it which you can see and taste. Yet, when I am given a yellow cake dyed red, I am at a loss.

-Cream Frosting -- wasn't too sweet. However, the kick of the cream cheese flavor toward the end was a little off putting.
Butter cream frosting and cream cheese frosting are not the same thing.
-Cake -- the cake was flavorless. I could not taste the flavor of yellow cake either, assuming that is how they make it.

[For the record, I have experienced delicious and on par Red Velvet cupcakes and cakes various vendors, not just Sprinkles].

I have been dying for a gourmet cupcake lately, so I decided to go to this little bakery for lunch and a cupcake.  I was immediately greeted by one of the employees who recommended a focaccia thing (I have no idea what to call it- it was like an open-faced sandwich or pizza square).  They had 3 different favors, and they were all pre made and on display.  I choose the chicken and spinach one.  He brushed some pesto sauce on it before throwing it in the toaster oven.  Then it was served with mixed greens and Italian dressing that resembled the Wishbone brand at the grocery store.  My cupcake was put into a tiny Chinese take out box (despite the fact that he knew I was eating there).  The focaccia thing was adequate.  The pesto was a nice touch.  Otherwise, it would have been too dry to eat. The "chicken" was so dry that it resembled tortilla strips, and it tasted like chips too.  The cupcake was not as deep red as I was expecting. It was more like clown-wig red, and it wasn't sweet at all.  The only thing I could taste was the frosting, which literally tasted like cream cheese- no sweetness.  I might as well have ordered a bagel with cream cheese.  The atmosphere also left a bit to be desired.  So boring and bland.  The dining area was dirty with plates strewn about, and it looks like they store a lot of stacked tables and chairs, old menus, etc. in random nooks and crannies.  They had about 6 people working behind the counter, and no attention was paid to the dining area.  Overall, the quality was fair, the service was fair, and the atmosphere was poor.  I probably won't go back.

I dropped by here because I read some pretty good reviews on yelp. While I was there a man walked in with his own 12inx12in tray and asked to fill up the try with apple crumb cake. I decided to give it a try since this man brought in his own tray! The apple crumb cake did not disappoint, it was extremely moist and I loved the bits of apple pieces they put in.

My feelings for this place are bittersweet.

The red velvet cupcake was probably the best cupcake I've ever put in my mouth. Most of the time, the cupcakes I've had were a little dry with too much super sweet frosting. This one was perfect!!

The bad news is that I'm in between jobs and can't afford a cupcake habit, nor can I afford a new pair of jeans if I grow out of my current pair!

To remedy this, I'm probably going to buy a whole dozen the day I get a new job!

I also purchased a cinnamon roll, but wasn't that excited about it. It had a little bit of carmel flavor. Don't trust my cinnamon roll opinion though, I grew up eating the refrigerated ones from the can!

i'm a big fan of cupcakes and this place definitely has amazing cupcakes. i tried the banana and red velvet cupcakes. These cupcakes are not overwhelmingly sweet and they're just right, but the cream cheese frosting is AMAZING. I really like the banana cupcake because it's very moist and consistent.

they also serve sandwiches. so if you're in for a savory treat, you could try one of the pita sandwiches, which i recommend.

Amia's red velvet cupcake is sooo good. "Only" 2.50 per cupcake, which is a lot cheaper than at most "gourmet" cupcakeries, such as Sprinkles or Kara's [well Kara's doesn't have red velvet, but you get the point]. The service is nice, although they always push you a little to buy something else, but they're not annoyingly pushy. I had one of the foccacia breads, and I enjoyed it a lot.

But I can't pass by Amia's without grabbing a red velvet cupcake. I love that they heat it up for you if you plan on eating it right away. And their frosting is delicious :) Got my mom the tiramisu, and she liked it, but said it was a little too sweet.

Cute little shop, cute tables you can eat at outside, decent [slightly pricey] food. Definitely takes care of my cupcake cravings when I'm in Fremont (:

Discovered this place when I was in an adventurous mood roaming around Fremont to kill some time.  The atmosphere of this bakery  is very plain and simple, almost a very asian feeling...but the food is bomb. Well I only tried the famous red velvet cupcake, and also a green tea one...and they were both delicious! If you're one of those ppl who doesn't like super sweet desserts, this is the place to go!! Sprinkles and kara's could be in the very sweet end...but Amia is very good. The cream cheese frosting is SUPER delicious, not too sweet, just right...and the cake is super moist. The red velvet is definitely better than the green tea. I couldn't really taste the green tea flavor to be honest...but i love the cream cheese frosting. The look of the cupcake isn't as appetizing or pretty as somewhere like Cako or sprinkles...but it's definitely tastier than it looks.

Next time I will definitely have to come back to try the famous chicken pesto sandwich, and their other cakes that looks super yummy as well =)

Vegan Cupcakes?  In Fremont?!  With three hours notice?!!

Yes!  I was so happy that Amia Bakery was able to accommodate my needs!  I was running behind with only three hours until a dinner party at my home.  I wanted to offer my vegan guest something other than fruit for dessert.  The vegan vanilla cupcakes were a hit with the entire bunch (even the carnivores!)

I will definitely return in the future!

The cupcakes they have on display are so-so, but the ordered cakes and the eggless cupcakes I've had at parties and for one of my student's birthdays was wayyy better than the ones they have on hand.

I ordered the Raspberry Chocolate Cream Cake for my friend's birthday and it was delicious!! The chocolate cake was moist and the cream was not to sweet and overwhelming (kind of like the cream you get on chinese cakes).

Will definitely be coming back for my future cake orders.

    Good Side:
Tried them twice for birthday cakes and everyone loved them.
They were even able to make a great eggless cake for me, which is hard to find.
Just placed the order a bit earlier to be sure and they had it ready by my pick up time.
Great Experience with the taste and the decoration of the cake.

Bad Side: They promised they will call me when i placed an order, no calls, just have to call yourself. Also, the display inside doesn't look very appetizing, makes me question if i should eat from there...

I ordered my son's first birthday cake at Amia Bakery the day before. I called and the lady who answered the phone was cordual, patient, and very helpful.  I orginally wanted to have fondant characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the house but I was told a day wasn't long enough to dry the dough.  So she suggested Pooh Bear theme which is very common in today's kids theme.  She let me know exactly how the cake would look like on the web.  I thought it was cute and decided to go with the Pooh Bear theme.  She suggested Banana Chocolate and I dare to try. The cake turned out really good! All my guests enjoyed it and asked which Bakery. So thanks for coming through with the birthday cake for my son's first birthday.
You know where I will order my next cake.

This is my favorite place to stop for lunch while I'm out doing errands. Their pesto, spinach mushroom focaccia is my favorite. The bread is so light and fluffy, with a nice crust outside, topped with just enough veggies and cheese. It comes with a nice mixed baby greens salad. It's a hit with both me and my one-year-old.

For dessert, I get a couple of the little cupcakes -- green tea and guava -- one to eat there and one to take home for later. Their guava cake isn't the bright-pink Aki's standard but has a less sweet, more subtle flavor. The cream cheese frosting is perfect.

I got a birthday cake for my grandmother here, too. It tasted lovely, though I wish the decorator had prettier handwriting.

Ordered my grandma the Passion Fruit Mousse Cake and my entire family loved it!  I love that their cakes are not too sweet, yet very flavorful.  I wish birthdays happened more often, so I could order more cakes and try out their flavors!  Lychee mousse, you are next!

Their 8" round is $28.00 and feeds about 8-15 people.

good job Amia Bakery! Thanks to you, i recieved a billion compliments at my grandmothers BIRTHDAY! the cake i requested for was gorgeous!!! it was literally EXACTLY as i asked for.. perfect!!! so beautiful! cant get over how nice it was!!!
During the process of ordering, Anh assisted me. He was super helpful and super patient, since im one of those super picky ppl... and indecisive, which pretty much is a horrible combo when it comes to a custom design cake. lol. but he was able to answer all my questions.

finally the quality of the cake... we chose to choclate cake with the hazelnut cream... guiandia? ... iono how to spell it... =.= ... but all 120 guests seem to like it ... but me. and that's why i took off one star.. lol.  i felt that the cake was right in the middle of being moist (american cake) and spongy (asian cake)... for me that was... weird.... but everyone seemed to like it. so that makes me happy enough.
some people said it was too sweet (the older ppl) and some said it was perfect (the younger ones) so... hey whatever. lol. i will be ordering another big cake here... or perhaps.. ill swing by and grab a red velvet cupcake...

    thanks Amia Bakery!! =]
