Oh, to be a stereotypical Long Island teen on a saturday night.

I admit to playing bowling in middle school every friday part as part of a league. Until they tore down my local for a Staples and CVS. Some call it urban sprawl, I call it having a the rucus of bar/lounge larger than 1/2 the alley.

They had a crazy neon thing going for saturday night, which was fun. It came out to $75 split 5 ways for 2 games and shoes. I wasn't crazy about going out halfway on the island to bowl, but this place is bigger and cleaner than Herrill (people included).

    Local bowling joint.

I'm not a big fan of bowling overall- I'll throw a game or two but then I'm bored and want out.

We popped in here on a whim and even though it was league night, the guy at the desk gave us a lane- which actually pissed off some of the league weenies.

That being said, we did have  a lot of fun and since we were right between two different leagues, I got to compare my score and lucky for them I wasn't bowling against them as they weren't that good - and neither am I!

The place was clean and modern and had a nice little bar area where I could partake of some beers.

I'd go back the next time the whim hits us -
    Big parking lot outside.

Any bowling alley where i can show up @ 9pm on a Saturday night and get a lane immediately and only pay $5.50 a game gets my vote.

It was so clean and there werent any obnoxious people there.

I'm used to paying $10 a game on weeknights @ crappy bowlmor. No thanks.

I also got a free shirley temple. Go me.

This place gets 2 thumbs up.

    Huge facility.

    Updated and a little neon-y.

Somewhat difficult for non-leaguers to get lanes on nights other than Saturday nights, but maybe that's their creative way to get people to join leagues.  Sneaky?

The machines are a little finicky.  One out of every three games or so you'll have to buzz the people up front to help get those pesky pins fixed or a stuck ball out of the black hole... but that's probably half the fun.

It's a suburban bowling alley. If you're from the area you can apply whatever stereotype you associate with Syossetoans and it's probably apt.

The prices are fine, even on weekends, and actually, the prices are great at the bar, especially for mixed drinks. I'm pretty sure I got a top shelf martini or three for six bucks each.

Here's why I wouldn't go back besides the fact that it's a suburban bowling alley, it's a bowling alley, and drinking at a suburban bowling alley on a Saturday night may be one of the more depressing things you can do besides writing a ranty review of that same suburban bowling alley: part of their Friday/Saturday night specials is to play a movie while you bowl.

Is that not absolutely ludicrous to you!? Who watches a movie while you bowl!? Bowling, a marginal, forgotten, and let's be honest, lame sport, is at the very least a chance to get some friends together for a few drinks and socialize! I'm going to sit there in between BOWLING to watch The Ring? To watch, Catch Me If You Can? Saw IV? Atrocious!

I really hit rock bottom that night.

    Or just now.

I have to admit that the bowling facility looks nice. The place is clean (most of the time), the lanes are okay, and the atmosphere is cozy as well. But, the service is just terrible.

I went on a Monday afternoon with a bunch of my friends. When we went to ask for the Family Fun Pack, they said there were no lanes available. If my eyes weren't mistaken, 60% of the bowling lanes were open. One of the workers said that they had a reservation and there was a party taking place "soon". Even though I couldn't understand what party could possibly take up 60% of the lanes, I understood. After waiting for about 5 minutes, we started seeing different lanes empty out. We went up again and asked if there were lanes available. The worker we spoke to before got annoyed and had someone else come to talk to us. This worker told us that there were lanes open but we just couldn't do that Family Fun Pack (2 hours of unlimited bowling for 54 dollars). We asked why and they said just because; all while there were other people in front of us getting lanes left and right. Even the family that came after us got a lane in about a minute. I was confused to say the least. They could not give us two lanes and they could not give us a clear reason as to why.

But, in the end it all worked out. We found another bowling alley 1/5th of the price of this facility and we got to bowl for twice the amount of time. I don't think I'm going back to Syosset Lanes.
