I came here last summer for my little Godson's 4th birthday party.  The place was fairly empty on that Sunday afternoon.  I was told it was recently remodeled to add new scoring machines and nicer big screens.  The Birthday Boy's picture flashed up on the screens every once in a while with a Happy Birthday message, which I thought was a nice touch.

I'm not a bowler so I can't compare this alley to others but it appeared to be clean and well-organized.  I also can't comment on the price because everything was paid for through the birthday package.  I do feel the need to mention that the women's restroom was honestly one of the nicest and cleanest public restrooms I've ever seen.  I wondered if it was recently remodeled too because it looked brand spanking new.  Tack on a star for that - am I right, ladies?

Our birthday party was in the bar area (no imbibing, unfortunately) and I noticed the bar was well-stocked and much better than I expected from a bowling alley.  A regular league player in our group said that the bar is always hopping in the evenings.  A quick peek at the menu revealed reasonable drink prices.  Hmmm...maybe I should become a bowler.

We went on a chilly Sunday afternoon just for fun. We were shocked at how expensive it was--about $15 for person for an hour of bowling! (Including shoes.) The second hour is only a few dollars more so we did that. We figured on a Sunday afternoon there would be a better deal. Altogether the place is clean and the attendants are nice; we also had trouble with pins getting stuck in the gutters and having to contact the front desk several times for help. They were friendly and prompt but it was still a constant disruption, especially when you're paying by the hour instead of by the game. I would give it a higher rating if it would have been cheaper.

It was a Friday night, one that came at the end of a loooooong work week that was also muddled with emotional stress. Let's just call it a long week. I needed an escape, something to pick the spirit back up.

    Enter AMF lanes.

I went with my good friend and his girlfriend around 10:40 PM. The cashier tells us extreme bowling starts in 20 minutes if we wanna wait. Sounds like a plan!

So we mosey to the bar, which is one of the nicer bowling alley bars I've seen. We order a pitcher from the kindly, personal bartender and sip on some Sam Adams while we wait to start. The place is clean, and nicer than one would imagine given the area it's in.

Extreme bowling starts-$15 for 2 hours of all you can bowl (not bad at all!) We lace up our shoes and start going. Damn good time! We sip on our beers and bowl under black lights while GOOD music plays-a lot nostalgia inducing stuff like "You Get What You Give". Late 80s-mid 90s stuff, none of the is Katy Pretty crap. It all adds to a better experience.

We got 4 games in, so about $3.75 a game-naturally the amount you get in depends on group size.

Still...I had an absolute blast here, and am considering making it a regular Friday night event.

    Well played AMF lanes!

Our lane had several issues with the pins...we had to keep resetting or going to get help because there were pins in the gutter. If you sign up for the eclub online at their website, you get an email for $5 off up to 4 people. If you add your phone number, you get other deals (I got one free game).  It is not a bad place, but I have been to better.

I used to bowl here when I was a kid.  I was on a league for about three seasons.  Recently I visited again for a party.  It brought back some memories and it was good to know the place is still functioning as it was all those years ago.  I had a good time.  The bar food is acceptable, the service is passable and the lanes all worked.  Slight annoyance with the counter service over shoe rental - my party had rented shoes for the entire group and the counter guy acted like maybe he could pull a fast one and get me to re-pay for what had already been paid for by the group.  I had to get the party organizer over there to straighten it out.  If a party rents ten pairs of shoes, you might want to have some sort of system in place to keep track of how many pairs are actually out other than simply saying "I see more than ten people over there" which is what lazy guy told me.

The place is in good shape considering it's age.  I would recommend it if you have a hankering to bowl.

Golly gosh darn it all to hoopty high heaven! I forgot how fun bowling can be.

Some pretext for context: Several (5+) years ago, I was invited to join a beer & pizza league at Monaco Lanes. It was a long commute, because I was living up in the foothills at the time, but the team was solid.

We had ringers, a token fat guy, and a couple sleepers that would 'wake up' when the games got close. We dressed the part, all bought our own shoes - one guy even had his own ball. We came in second.

I digress. Last night, a group of us decided that we should do the bowling thing. It had been years since I visited the lanes where my team suffered a 6 pin defeat for first place. Walking in brought back such fond memories. The smell of beer, bowling, and fierce competition was ripe in the air. It was on.

Is this turning into a story? Crap. Ok, so great lanes, reasonable prices, super friendly staff, remarkably uncrowded, etc.

Beer & Pizza league still happens every week. I will be putting the old band back together. Rock and roll!

I love this place for kid excursions and group events.
It can add up quickly so look for coupons, but it is soooo fun. The staff is nice. The shoes are pretty new. The ball selection is huge. The lanes are clean. There is ridiculous parking. It's right next door to sushi. They serve beer (and have a full bar). The food is awful, but what do you expect? It's a bowling alley not a restaurant.
It's awesome and I love it!

Everytime I have visited this location they give me coupons or free stuff on the way out. People are always screaming and having too much fun here - and I love the bowl-o-rama dance everyone seems to do even if they only knock down a pin or two.
"Raise your Hands in the air, wave 'em like you just don't care - shuffle your feet in your waky shoes and scream, Oh yeah!"

Birthday's are a big deal when you are turning 9 ... that is for certain. Monaco Lanes understands this and does NOT disappoint. As a mommy, I am very happy. My 9 year old daughter ... even happier.

We had about 8 to 10 kids and some arrived late. Sasha, our "hostess" was on top of EVERYTHING !!!! Every kid, adult and anyone with feet was approached, sized, and handed a pair of bowling shoes. Any kind of technical difficulties we had ( meaning we somehow screwed up the machines) she fixed instantly. She was so on top of things. I cannot tell you how great this was for me. The Blackhawks game was on ... she found it. I wanted to bowl too so she opened a lane and did NOT comment on my ...inability. My daughter and her friends ... laughing, bowling, cheering each other on ??? This was the ultimate, easy for the parents, fun for kids experience. I am so grateful.

When the time came to transition from bowling to eating Sasha had it down. She even reminded the kids to WASH THEIR HANDS !!! Honestly I don't think she could have done better. Slicing pizza, cutting cake, keeping me aware of everything ... thanks cuz I am watching my team throw it away... It was an absolute complete package.

Thanks a whole huge bunch. It could not have gone more smoothly. The pizza, and I am a Chicago Pizza Grad. .... was pretty darn good too. More important than that though, the real effort into my daughter's big day. This was just really really cool. I feel thankful.

*** I neglected to mention the fact that the bowling shoes they gave me were... BRAND SPANKIN' NEW .... virgins ... my foot was the first. They were so spiffy, and if I wasn't all worried about "Karma" and " setting a good example" I would have strolled right on out with them on my feet ... leaving my smelly old Keds behind.

Went again last night for a birthday party. It's been a year since I was there last and the service is still completely awful, so I'm knocking off another star. From the bartenders to the counter help (we interacted with at least four different people) every one of them acted as if our presence there was a total nuisance. I think I'll try the nearby Crown Lanes next time which seems to get great reviews and have much better prices.

I did notice that when we went to get our lanes, they informed us this time about their policy that all games must be paid for in one transaction, using one form of payment - something I mentioned in my last review that they hadn't done before and which caused a big mix up. So I guess that's something.

TIP: If you do decide to go to Monaco Lanes or any other AMF location, check out the Colorado Kids Web site: http://www.denverkids.... for a coupon for $.99 games for six games. Wish I'd have known this last night at $5.70/game - we could have saved $30!!!

I am a TERRIBLE bowler, but when my friends ask me to go, I always know there will be laughs, cocktails and people watching. Plus, generally the decor at bowling alleys is... noteworthy. :) The staff here was really friendly, the company was - as usual - hilarious and fantastic, but the best part was the people watching. Out of this world. I felt like I was in a zoo for people.
"LOOK!!! They have the rare family that likes each other!!!"
"I am so tired of this makey-outy exhibit.  I know makey-outies are easy to come by (heh heh), but seriously."
"Sshhhh. The never before seen sleeping terrible two."
I totally want to go back.

I was responsible for planning a store party for my coworkers and I.  I decided that bowling would be fun, plus it is close to our work so I knew everyone could find it.

They have a package that includes pizza, soda and bowling.  The food was better than your average alley food.

All in all we had a great time and the staff was very accommodating and me the day fun for everyone.

So it's all about your first experience when you go to any new place....mine was just not up to par and I'll tell you why...

The facility..very nice....people...came off as nice.  It is expensive, no getting around that.  $4.25 for a shoe rental per person...$5.50 per person per game on a Sunday night with no price difference for kids?  Not so much.

My problem was with the staff- on the way out after paying $30 for one game for myself and my niece and nephew they handed me a nice 99 cent per game and up to 10 games coupon VALID FOR THAT DAY and the next, valid with a shoe rental.  We had just finished so I asked kindly if we could use this to play another few games...they said sure if we re bought the shoes that were sitting in front of us.  The place was empty and I'm here with kids and already spent $30.  They proceeded to be extremely rude when we decided it wasn't worth giving this place another dime.

Moral of the story- awful first experience and there won't be a second.  I'd rather go a few miles down the road to get the $12 all you can bowl/shoes included with a friendly staff who won't scam you even though their not benefiting a penny.

So I brought my son here on a Tuesday, it hits dollar frames at a certain time. I got there around 8, and the dollar frames started at 9... so we bowled 2 games before 9, then one after. When I went to pay, I got charged full price for all the games. The girl said she charges from the time we got there, and cannot change the price for the game after 9. Really? So what you're saying is this is impossible? My 30 dollar night turned into a 50 dollar night. Nice work.

You'd think that a bowling alley was a bowling alley.  But then, you'd be wrong.

While there is a lot be said for a bowling alley that doesn't try to gussy itself up to attract more customers, there's something to be said for sound management practices.

For example, if a group of six comes in to bowl together socially, and most of the lanes of the alley are open, it would be best not to place them next to another large group.  That way everyone is not sitting in each others' lap.

Or if someone happens to be a bad bowler, it probably isn't best to mock them.

Or if someone raises their voice slightly in a way that obviously indicates a friendly disagreement based on good-natured ribbing over who won...don't have the manager confront those people.

Bartender had a major chip on his shoulder.. I even offered to buy him a drink since he was Mr. Grouchy, but I guess he couldn't accept- due to the camera over his shoulder.  I mean, what is one to expect from a bowling alley? Of course we had a blast, but it was all due to the people we were with.. Can't say service was super friendly, food was of bar quality, and facility clean enough.

Large bowling alley, lots of lanes.  This place is clean and the lanes are well-maintained.  The bowling balls are marked clearly with their weight, and they are in good shape.  Bowling can be an expensive outing, and this bowling alley is no exception.  But it's fun and a nice outing on a cold winter day.  We've been there a couple times this winter and will definitely go back.  They do run specials, so be sure to get on their e-mail list - they won't inundate you with messages, just good deals once or twice a month.

There are few things in life that you can do and suck yet still have fun. Bowling is one of those things. So one night when I was bored with wii bowling and wanted so real life action to have a good chuckle about I went to AMF Monaco lanes. 'Twas a random Wednesday night and the parking lot was dead. I was so stoked. We walk in and to my dismay we were completely shut out because we were not part of a league. We were told that there is only public bowling on Monday and Friday nights; otherwise all 40 lanes are reserved for league. WTF, are you freaking kidding me. Shame on you AMF: you should at least leave a few lanes open to the public all days of the week. Not everyone works a M-F 9-5 where you can go at these VERY specific nights. Booo to you Monaco lanes, booo.

This place is tolerant of a bunch of buzzy 30 something dudes all dressed up like characters in the Big Lebowski who arrived pouring out of a cab.  I was a nihilist.

So we kinda sucked at bowling, but this place was really fun anyway!

PS:  Thanks for not kicking us out!
