Conveniently located off of Lee Highway and Route 28 the AMF Centreville Lanes provided a much needed escape from the daily grind on a Tuesday evening. The facility is clean and the service was great as the staff responded to any of our service lane requests. There's plenty of bowling balls even though they were missing the 11 pound balls. The night was somewhat busy as half of the 30 lanes were used. We had a preferred rate with shoes that did not break the bank. Now only if I can break the 200's I would be a happy bowler! I guess scoring in the 120's will suffice for now.

A group of friends and I joined their Winter league - something to stay active during the winter months.
It is NOT the professionals league where they compete for a large cash prize though. It is a recreational league where we play for fun, but have AMF keep track of our scores and where we can win free group games, food, and shoes.
Price per person for about two league months: $8 for 3 games(game held once a week) including shoes and you get a nifty AMF keychain card to get a discount on food and future games (non-league associated).
This AMF location is larger than others and has, I would say, 30+ lanes. Also, their food is much better and tastier than other typical bowling joints.
Staff-wise - It's a hit or miss. Some are super friendly and helpful, while others just don't give a sh!t and act like they despise their jobs. -

Never thought I'd be giving a 5-star review to a boring-looking bowling place in Centreville. But whodathunk our host, cashier, shoe lord, bowling ball dispenser, and waiter would have been the same person? This spry hipster confirmed to me that this was not Bowl America, this was AMF.
This place outshined Fairfax's Bowl America like a newfangled pair of socks does to an old, faded, sturdy pair. The atmosphere here was cozier because the tables were closer to the bowling lanes, than in Fairfax. Everything seemed so bright, shiny and clean -- not like the vintage, let's go back to 1986-feel of the other place (which I am not knocking, just comparing). Even the shoes felt newer and squeakier. They brought the food and drinks to us, and the menus were already on our table, like it was a poor man's country club.
In fact, I am poor. So, I guess that's why I'm giving it 5-stars. $2.50 a game before 6 pm, and $3.50 a game afterwards, plus $4.50 shoe rental, was a pretty good deal. I would advise against ordering more than a plate of food at a time because the portion sizes were pretty big. Drink specials are on Monday through Friday, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm - so you'll get a $3 glass of wine at that point. Not bad. -

Been here quite a few times recently. Not one time has been a bad one. I can't really leave an in depth food review but after 4 pitchers of beer, the food was definitely decent. They even modded the menu and made up a sandwich to my liking! (grilled ham and cheese).
If you want a cheap night out with friends (and a chance to laugh at the bad bowlers of the group.. me!) then you can't go wrong here. Plus it's cheaper than the going to the movies. -

I would give it 4 stars, but it's like $4.25 or $4.50 per game and that's just a little extreme. With a coupon ($8.99 for 2 hours all you can bowl including shoes) it's a great deal, though.
The food is very good (for a bowling alley, at least) - I can recommend the pizza, hot dogs and cookies (especially the cookies). The alley is generally pretty clean.
We usually come after work for a couple of hours of relaxation. The music is usually pretty current and now that smoking is banned indoors in Virginia, it's easy to breathe. -

Traditionally I felt like I have come to expect terrible service at a bowling ally but AMF Centreville Lanes really impressed me during my last trip.
We had a large group and needed two lanes.. and it was very busy (Saturday night during cosmic bowling hours). I cant recall his name (younger Asian-American gentleman) but his service was absolutely top notch from the minute we put out names down for a lane. The place was extremely loud (as would be expected for cosmic bowling) and this person came and found us when our lane was ready after a short 10min wait (the wait was supposed to be 20-30min, so far so good!). Then, this nice employee offered to enter all of our names and set up the computer while we all went and got our shoes and balls! Then, at the end of the night due to the size of our party we even had our shoe rental fee waived!!
I cant say I have had a more positive experience at a bowling alley and while this particular one is a bit out of the way for me personally, I would gladly drive the extra few miles to choose AMFCentreville over the Bowl America is Burke or Fairfax VA. -

A bunch of us (8) went bowling Thanksgiving weekend. I would say overall it was a fair experience. We prepaid for our games, got our shoes and began to bowl we had a lot of problems with our game being interrupted by the computer stating our prepaid time was up and in the middle of a game. We had to go to the cashier several times, receipts in hand to show that we had paid. It was frustrating and we were not treated very nicely. I would likely not return to this bowling alley for that reason alone. The staff overall were nice but the young girl that attempted to help us was very rude and did not provide good customer service at all.
Now the pizza was oddly AMAZINGLY delicious. I may go back for a piece of pizza before I go back to bowl. -

Wow based on the reviews I took the girlfriend out for bowling. I have not done this for about 20 years since being a little kid and she never did it. Once we opened the door to this place a wall of stench and odor hit me that was unbelievable and I have been to several third world countries for instance delhi, india. We walked up to the counter and asked about playing etc. and was told it would be 45 minute wait and that the whole place was smoking. This being the understatement of the century. While the facility didn't seem so bad I was in disbelief to see several groups of kids being exposed to the filth in the air here. We walked out and did some Wii bowling instead.
If you want to experience the worst air quality in the world here you go! -

This is the nicest bowling alley I've ever been too. It looks like it's been renovated recently. The lanes and tables all look really new. I found everything to be very clean. They have great beers on tap like Magic Hat and the staff will come wait on you while you're bowling so you don't have to stall your game waiting for people to get food or drinks. I've always been here for the late night bowling and I've had a great time.

I used to like this center. Although the lanes weren't always well oiled, they had bowling for $1.99 a game before 6:00 pm on weekdays. Since it's on my way home from work, it was a perfect place to practice mid-week, cheaply.
Not anymore. Today when I stopped by, it was empty except for a couple of folks who were pre-paying (??) at the counter ahead of me. When they were given the price for their few games, it was more than double what they were used to. The counter attendant told them the price per game went up to $4.25 a game two weeks ago.
I turned and left. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, I noticed that those other folks were leaving too. We left an empty bowling center--not a single customer at 5:00 on a Wednesday afternoon.
It's a nice center. But not that nice. I won't be going back. -

The food sucks. The place is dirty. Only middle aged rednecks and creeps frequent this place on weekends. The shoes smell weird. The arcade is lame.....I can't really think of anything good about this place....oh yeah, don't go on weekday afternoons, the high school gym classes have to bowl here as a P.E. requirement....The only time you'd want to go is weekend nights when they have light shows & all.
