Nothing like taking my niece and nephew bowling before the school year starts. The bowling alley was pretty empty except the 3 lanes occupied by a daytime bowling league. It was a decent bowling alley that was clean and renovated in the last 15 years, the exterior is more vintage than the interior. They have computerized game consoles and the balls are organized by color. The lightest ball is 6 pounds and you can ask for a bowling ball "ramp" for the little ones who can't lift a ball. If your balls are attracted to the gutter then you can ask for them to pull up the gutter guards. They even have pool tables and video games in case bowling isn't your thing. If you need a snack or drink, they have the basic bowling alley fare (pizza, chicken strips, french fries, etc.) and beer.

The only down side was that there was only 1 person working during the day. He had to check us in, get our shoes, set up our lane (gutter guards for the kids) and make the food. It's a tall order. I can understand how it may be less busy during the day, but AMF may want to consider at least getting another person on duty, especially when things got busier or if you wanted food and the worker was at the check-in desk.

Ghetto, but cheap. The food isn't too bad.

A good bowling place. They have the basics. As far as food, I stick with the pizza. Nachos weren't that good. My cousins liked their burgers.  I really have fun here with friends and family. I also love that they're usually busy but since it's big it's not overly crowded.

I went here on a Sunday night, and they had unlimited bowling from 9-12am for only $10, which is a very good price, considering that other bowling places would charge the same amount for just one game.

However, several times, my game was messed up. Sometimes it would give a gutterball though I hadn't bowl yet. At the end, the alley just shut off and we just left.

Bowling is bowling anywhere you go.  It's usually kids working the bowling alley if you have any problems, checking in to get your shoes, etc.  AMF Annandale Lanes fits this description, but I don't have any complaints..

However, bowling with a full bar (not just beer)??  Cool!  I didn't get to try it, but having that option is pretty awesome.

I'm going to give it 4 stars for one reason:

$5 all you can bowl from Sunday through Thursday after 9PM.

Bowl America is usually $10/11, so $5 is pretty freaking ridiculous.

It's a dumpy bowling lane, with old balls, their scoring system hasn't been upgraded since 1972, and their pins don't have as much action as Bowl America, but I'm not going to complain one bit for $5 AYCB.

    Suck it Cosmic Bowling.

Yes - I am spoiled.  I like the fancy tv and fancy scoring computers at other bowling alleys.  None of that here.  I don't even know how to work the scoring  machine thingy here to add players or clear names, but at least it does automatic scoring and not paper score.  It's like ancient!! Totally need some upgrades.

$5.25/per game/per person for Sunday.  $4.25 for shoes rental.  Adds up quick.  They do have some special like $10 all you can bowl 9pm after Sunday, or $1/per game at some other odd times on the weekdays

Blah.  I've been to better bowling alley for cheaper price.

Bare bones minimum offerings of a bowling alley.  Includes concessions, bar, and arcade area, but not too many TVs around.  Scoring machine was basic but at least it worked.  Good times regardless especially if you can find deals on free games or shoe rentals.  When we paid for our game we were given a bunch of scratch-off coupons that gave us free shoes and even a free game among other offerings.

Area is kinda sketch and the balls are dirty.  Be sure to wash your hands when you're done with this place.

GHET.... TOOOOO. The most ghetto freakin lanes ever.

These lanes are the worst thing in life. The only reason we continue to go here is cause they are close by. And they have specials. But even the specials don't make bowling here worth it.

You have two high schoolers working a 48 lane facility. EVERY time we go we have technical issues. Either the lane won't re-rack or you'll have a ball fly out from the ball return, yes... FLY out. We were on lanes 15 and 16 and when someone bowled on 16 their ball would fly out and land into lane 15, which would then cause a scoring issue on 15 and then again... have to wait 5 mins to fix the pins because it won't re-rack.

I was so annoyed by our experience today that I am up at 12:30 am writing a crappy review for this crappy facility. We basically had to wait a total of 45 mins because we were having so many issues with our lane. The kid working behind the counter had to experience the "Philly Fire" and although I do feel bad for being so harsh with him, we got 4 free games. when 8 of us had bowled 3 games each...... thanks SO much. Although I'm sure he'll probably get yelled at for giving us any sort of discount. His reply "But this scary Asian lady was giving me the death stare and there were 7 other Asians with her looking at me."

"I was offered pot in the bathroom the last time I was here," my friend reminscied when we walked through the front doors. Talk about kicking it old school. The place has none of the frills of the newer bowling alleys, such as digital screens, loads of snazzy lighting effects, etc. It's a bit dingy but it doesn't keep the crowds of young and old folks we saw from having a good time.

The drinks are cheap - a pitcher of diet coke costs 5 bucks and a pitcher of beer doesn't cost much more. Each game is 5 bucks and shoe rent is $4.75. A good evening can be had by all for under 20 bucks (that'd be 3 games and shoe rental). How many of your new fangled places can say that?

This is the first bowling I've done in Virginia. Compared with other bowling alleys that I've been to in Philly and NJ, this was pretty average with the typical 1980's decor inside. Sure it looks old, but let's face it...IT'S BOWLING. Just like other places, at night (after 9pm?) they turn off the lights for cosmic or extreme bowling. Strike on a red pin on the #1 front and center position, and you earn yourself a free game.

Good variety of balls color coded by weight.
    Shoe rentals are almost $5/person.
Everyone in our party had new shoes, although there were older ones.
We paid about another $5 per game.
The consoles looked pretty antique and not intuitive to use.
The computer system and displays were pretty old too.
Concession stand seemed to have a good variety of foods.
This place also has liquor bar for your alcoholic drinks too.
If kids get bored, there's always the arcade and billiards area.

Not the best place I've ever been to, but if all you want to do is bowl with real balls instead of Wii remote controllers, this is not a bad place to start I suppose.

I went this past Saturday afternoon with a buddy after not bowling here for about 5 years. The reason I stopped going was because the place was just nasty -- sketchy, with tons of people just loitering outside. Beer pitchers were dirty and the staff, you could tell, was overworked.

I got the opposite impression this past Saturday. The woman at the front desk was probably the most shining example of customer service I've ever been around. There were brand-new video games and an air hockey table in the game room, and people to bring you your food or beer. Also, ball return wasn't an issue at all -- it looks like a new system on each lane. (Keep in mind I hadn't been there in 5 years)

And this is all  without trying to become a faux-swank joint like Strike Bethesda.

I don't know what the place is like at night or at other times, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much better it seems to be right now.

I go to this place regularly and always have a good time. Yeah, it's kind of funky old school, but they recently installed some flat screen monitors overhead for the scores and hopefully they're the beginnings of some upgrades. The food is pretty good and the lane servers are cheerful and attentive. They also have a pretty good drinks menu, you can order a White Russian and get your inner Lebowski on.

Friends of mine had a bowling birthday party here.  Hosting birthday celebrations during off-peak times seems to work because the whole place was packed with kids.  They provide the cake and pizza and an opportunity for the kids/parents to bowl.  Works out well for the parents and there is nothing to cleanup after you are done.  Plus you get your own bowling pin signed by your guests to take home.

This place is definitely not the place to go.  The only reason why I went back was because a bunch of us from the CarniCrew decided to go WITH COUPONS!  I probably would have suggested a different bowling alley if it hadn't been for those coupons.  Nevertheless, we went and still the same as the old days (with the exception of the missing pool room which turned into a cruddy arcade).  My sources told me that they got rid of the pool tables and stuff to keep a certain group of people out.  I don't know if you remember or not, but there were some murder situations at this bowling alley some years back.  It's some pretty scary stuff.  I grew up in Annandale, and didn't have this issue of fear ever.  The kids used to run around outside, go down the street to CVS or 7-11, bike around, play at the playground without parent supervision.  It was that safe.  Now, it's like you hear about all of these crimes being committed in Annandale.  How sad... Anyway, going back to the bowling alley.  I must say that it wasn't the cleanest place in the world either.  The food and drinks were super expensive.  The selection of bowling balls was few.  Finally, the scoring machine!  It was the completely old-school, just started automation type of scoring machine they had since the late 90's or so.  It was the same scoring machine from the time I last visited this place prior to this event, and that was almost 6 years ago.  Oh yeah! and you've laser bowled before right?  Don't go to this bowling alley for laser bowling because what they consider laser bowling, is definitely not laser bowling.  They use tiny little strobe lights that are 1) slow  2) beams of light are super thin  3) not dark enough (in terms of the room)  4) not bright & flashy enough (in terms of the lights).
