Regardless of what people say, Ameristar is a good casino with awesome hosts. It is different then corporate casinos and the comp system is great.

This was the first non-indian owned casino I have ever been to outside of Vegas, and I was very surprised. The place was really big, and it has a cobblestone street layout. There are a number of restaurants and a buffet. We ate at the sports bar 2 nights in a row, and we had really great service. The food was average, but the people were very nice. The casino itself was nice and clean. It was next to impossible to get onto any tables, so we mostly played slots. I was up $7 after 2 nights of playing, so I will consider that a win. Another person in our group put $20 into a More Chili machine, and pulled out $220 5-minutes later. No one from our group lost any money. All-in-all, we were glad to have this near our hotel!

This Ameristar is like every other Ameristar I have been in. Smells like an ash tray, some places to eat are better than others.
The staff was friendly and did a good job. The rooms didn't smell like smoke not sure how they managed that one, and they were huge. I loved the little TV, sofa, chair living room area. The bed was soft and the pillows fluffy. Also huge bathroom with seperate tub and shower which I also love.
The best part was the people watching while we were checking in. There was a drunk lady trying to talk without slurring her words, stand up and yell at her husband on the phone about how much the room was all while the clerk patiently waited on her.
A couple people over there was a family checking in with a teenage girl chugging chocolate milk out of a gallon jug. Maybe there was a food eating competition later on she was practicing for. Either way it was entertaining to watch her chug milk.
There were tons of over 60 year olds chain smoking and gambling and at the buffets and they are also fun to watch.
So you can say great people watching. -

Ok, so I'm biased when it comes to Ameristar because I have phenomenal luck on their slot machines. On most days I can make a $20 bill last at least 2 hours on the penny machines and when you use your player card they send $3 in free money ALL the time. I love how big the place is and how many slot machine options there are. I can't speak to the tables but I know I've heard other people complain that the table minimums go up on a weekend night and it's hard to get into the cheaper tables. On this particular night my friend and I scored two brand new slots next to each other and proceeded to gamble the night away on those two machines. Their new slots are pretty cool though, bright plasma touch screens and fun features! Plus, we were both winning so much that we thought the machines might have been rigged for their first month in play.
I've been to the bars before - on this particular weekend Joe Dirt was playing at Bottleneck. Normally I'd probably stop by to check it out because I love those guys but there was a $5 cover and a line out the door.. pass!
Much younger crowd here than Harrah's that's for sure. As always though, a very wide range of clientele. You can come in here in your pajama pants or your very shortest skirt and still fit in just fine. Lots of great people watching!! -

I don't go to Ameristar with hopes of winning a lot of money... I really just go because it's a hell of a lot of fun. We usually end up here when we have something to do in the area beforehand, and it's cool because there's a handful of fun things to do when inside!
The Lixx bar inside the casino is usually where I go first, and the drinks never disappoint. They have a martini called the Full Tilt Pomtini that's really good, but my standard rum & diets with lime are always made perfectly, too (though I guess that's not too hard...) You can sit at the bar here (plenty of seating) or grab a booth while you people watch. It's so fun to sit and sip drinks while watching everyone gamble under all of the bright & blinking lights... it's like sensory overload in the best way possible. As far as the gambling goes, I've only played the slots here and also roulette, in which I did NOT win. I did the opposite of winning, actually. Charlie Sheen would be very disappointed in me.
I like Bottleneck, too... see my previous review. Live music & booze heaven. And of course Pearl Oyster Bar. They're serving Creole and Cajun cuisine and surprisingly also some Asian-inspired dishes. Just straight up fun. The diner is cool, too, and has everything you need for an after-gamble dinner or breakfast... I used to eat here after dancing the night away at Home nightclub, but alas, Home is gone. Which is kind of okay with me actually.
Solid place to have fun and make a night out of it. Take a staycation and enjoy the gorgeous hotel rooms, too! -

Ameristar's my favorite casino of the bunch so far. It starts off strong -- you exit off of the highway, make a protracted u-turn and WOAH -- what is that building?! Sure enough, that's where you're headed, to a place that looks like it belongs in Vegas but is merely right here on the river in Missouri. The lights, the enormous parking deck, even the imposing structure lend an understanding that this place means some serious business.
Park in the deck on the right, walk into the building, and you'll pass by all sorts of side businesses I've never bothered with: an ice cream and coffee shop, a few restaurants, an arcade room, and a club. Right ahead of you is the casino floor, which is a breeze to get onto. Immediately you'll be able to enjoy two entire floors of slot machines, table games, and as much soda and coffee as you can drink.
I'm a casino newbie so I mostly stick to the slots; there are many many many options here, so it's hard to get wrong. Every once in a while I get up the nerve to consider playing Blackjack; the kind they roll with here is a variant that includes 3-card poker. I don't think I've ever seen someone win a decent amount of money with the poker add-on, so Andy's pro recommendation is that you avoid that minigame unless you've really got a hankering for it.
Short of a few things here and there, though, a casino is a casino, no matter how you look at it. Ameristar manages to feel classy, but doesn't go into the overpriced pretentiousness domain that Lumiere Place calls home. At the same time, you never feel uncomfortable here, and probably the most offensive part about the experience to Yelpers will be the cigarette smoke. Following the St. Louis smoking ban, it's even more of a whammy to come in and remember why smoking was banned in the first place.
Drop by and give Ameristar a try! And if you win big, don't bother sending me a compliment -- I'll take a cool $500 for my review. Thanks in advance.Listed in: Spring Break 2011

I like this casino better than the rest in the area.. including the newer Lumiere. That's not saying much though.
Parking is pretty good here too. Try parking at Lumiere.. it blows. Get your gamble on, your drink on, and your eat on. In fact the buffet here is very good. It's no Vegas.. but obviously what is. Check it out, you'll probably find it to be the best in St. Louis. -

OK, I have to admit that I am a bit partial to casinos like Lumiere Place and River City simply because of living across the river in Illinois, however I do enjoy a trip out to Ameristar from time to time. The casino is large and the selection of machines are great. I have tried the buffet once and the food was good, however I wasnt as impressed as others made it out to be. The night club has closed, which was a good time however St.Charles just wasnt the right place for it.

When the beautiful wife and I first gazed upon Ameristar, my first thought was "well, this is an interesting looking building."
I was expecting something really boxy and dark. I couldn't have been more mistaken. It's very airy and filled with natural light (we were here on a Sunday morning). I took to calling Ameristar "Venetian Jr." That's a compliment.
The staff was universally friendly at every encounter. No massive scrutiny when entering the gaming floor, which is always a bonus.
There's a ton of places to eat and drink as well (buffet, bars, oyster house, Italian, burger place).
And there's a nifty fountain at the front doors for a little water show.
Only complaint was that the tables were pretty full and the slots were STINGY. But our gambling today was pretty short, so maybe next time we'll see how the wallet looks post-visit. -

Okay, it's pretty sad when the thing to do in your town is to go to the casino. That being said, this place has it all (for a small town). There are about 5 or 6 restaurants you can choose from, and the two we ate at were quite tasty. The first one sat 6 of us quickly, and the waitress was really tolerant of our changes to our orders. The food servings were ginormous, and the drinks were huge too. I think all in all, we spent $180 for three hours of drinking and eating, and shooting the sh!t in a really comfortable setting.
So, I was in MO for a high school reunion, and going to Vegas for a full week after. I wanted to play some of the table games, but they were so crowded -- AND EXPENSIVE -- that I settled on the slots and played my friend's money when she ran to the bathroom. Walked away with about $200, so it wasn't bad.
Ameristar is a good warm up to Vegas, but I'm glad I don't have to use it as my only source of recreation. -

Nice casino, they have pretty good blackjack tournaments. I always seem to make a little money here. Not big money but a few $'s. I dont make it here very often due to location (off 70) and when staying downtown right on the metro, it easiest to go to casino queen or harras but if you are on 70, its a nice stop! Blackjack is $5-$25 for the most part.

My favorite Casino in STL has to be the Ameristar. I prefer the high ceiling and wide open casino over the others in town. Great poker room and plenty of slots of course. There is also a decent sports bar outside the casino but the buffet is a bit too pricey for me. If you are the gambling type then definitely check out this casino.
