Sir Nicholas and I decided to take a small "staycation" for a weekend before Little Man N comes to town and we don't have that luxury any longer. Since I'm so close to my due date though we wanted to be an easy drive away from the hospital and decided to head to Black Hawk for the weekend. And we also decided to really live it up by staying in the newest hotel up there - the Ameristar.

I will say for the location this is a 5 star hotel - I don't think there are any places that will be nicer, especially if you get a deluxe suite. We did and it had a jacuzzi tub with a "mountain" view (although that word is used liberally here), a fireplace, 2 bathrooms, spa-styled shower, king sized bed, and all the works. Definitely a nice place to relax.

As for the amenities they do have a rooftop pool, spa, and workout facilities, all nice options. Room service is a little odd, they only serve it until 10 PM Sunday - Thursday and until midnight on the weekends. The restaurants in Ameristar close even earlier than room service does, at 9 PM on the weekdays. That seems strange to me as there were places open in plenty of other casinos and gambling tends to throw lots of people of normal eating schedules.

Although Nick and I are both fans of black jack we didn't play here as the cheapest tables, even on a Sunday morning, had a $15 minimum and were always so packed we had a hard time finding 2 seats next to each other. Considering most of the other casinos have $5 tables during the day it might be a better option to go elsewhere if you aren't used to or comfortable making bigger bets each hand.

All in all it was a nice getaway and one I'd be more than happy to do again, as long as I can get some grandparents to babysit...

I want to like this Ameristar in terms of their lodging but these were my concerns :

    *  The housekeeping knocked and opened our doors at 8:30am of March 23rd 2012, even with knocking but thankfully I ledge the door the night before.

    *  The supposedly 2 "QUEEN" Beds in our room is actually the SIZE OF A "BIG TWIN" each, so I feel with 4 ladies, 2 on each bed can be slightly "tiny" for my sleeping needs.

    *  The coffee mugs available in the rooms should have at least 4 instead the 2 they provide, but at least they have disposable ones available in the room.

Here was what I like about Ameristar SERVICES, ROOMS, Lodging and facilities.

    *  When checkin the staff who took our reservation is from Sri Lankan is indeed vey funny, accommodating and inviting.

    *  We opt for the room facing the so call view of a mountain.  Picture will follow in my review.

    *  With the "rooftop" indoor swimming pool, and indoor jacuzzi, and outdoor jacuzzi, I like though I feel the outdoor jacuzzi, can be crowded during almost closing time but all is cool.

I dont gamble at all, so I just go for the slot machines since this trip was a girls get away from the period of THURSDAY-SATURDAY of March 22nd 2012 till March 24th 2012.

At the Casino itself, during certain times, those ladies aka SERVERS who provide services to take order of your drinks, can appear and disappear when you need them especially if you need drinks or water but when you really need THEM aka the Servers, they arent to be found..  But there is an area where water, soda, coffee and tea dispenser is provided maybe sufficient, just make sure, you fill up your disposable cups if needed to be.

During my stay there with the ladies, I feel like there are a couple of families at least the ones who are in the level rooms we are staying bring along their kids i.e LEVEL 6.  Hmm, arent sure why the kids are there to begin with, but oh well...  Perhaps during that time, are the Spring Break time or something...

Ooh and not forgetting the covered multi-story parking spaces aka THE PARKING GARAGE.  Driving round and round, level by level can sometimes make me DIZZY... so just be warned coz the directions up and down can be slightly tricky...

As with security, I can understand the need to "tag" and ask for your ID every single day, so, make sure your bring your ID around or at least, wear those "paper bracelet" ID on your wrists during your trip at Ameristar.  Above anything else, I dont mind returning if needed to be mainly NOT to gamble but just to stay away for the weekend and MORE on the FOOD, in my following review.

Went up here for a small girls getaway plus we had a coupon for a cheaper hotel rate. THE HOTEL ITSELF: We loved staying here. The hotel is top notch. The rooms are clean and modern. Love the bathroom. Love the pool on the top level. Bed were really comfortable as were the blankets and towels. Only complaint was that the elevators were sooo slow. Waited on average 5 minutes for an elevator and we were only on the 12th floor. Inside the hotel/ casino they have a Starbucks which is nice.

THE CASINO: Sometimes they give you good points for comps most the time they don't. I found that you don't seem to get much back when you gamble here. So I always go to the small casinos within walking distance.

OTHER AREAS: Their buffet is really good, love the chocolate coverage strawberries I could/ would get a whole plate of those if I want. Don't know if they would let me. All the employees are really nice.

Will defiantly go back again when they send me some more coupons to go up and stay at their hotel.

I was up in Black Hawk for the day at a wedding, and while the rest of the town doesn't really look like my kind of place, I really enjoyed the Ameristar. I stuck to the spa and the event center, so I can't say anything about the casino or the rooms, but what I saw was really nice. It's a little more upscale than a lot of the surrounding places, and I have to say they hosted a fantastic wedding. The ceremony was out on the balcony by the spa, and the ballroom served as the reception area. The food for the reception was fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it for someone looking to have their wedding done "all-in-one" somewhere.

Driving through the Rockies and everywhere you look there is old mining equipment, and run down buildings. (Its one of the coolest places Ive ever seen), and I had no idea what to expect about Black hawk.

I was told that it was a casino and I figured Black hawk was the actual casino because no details were given. I was so wrong.

We drove up a huge mountain and all of a sudden I see a town circa 1920s, old saloons,  and stores that you know have been there since the 20's, old houses and a whole strip of casinos tucked in this nook of the Rockies.

It was ah-maze-ing! The food at the Ameristar is really good. We walked around to a few of the other casinos which are all smoke free and equally amazing.

Its a fun little town, if you are in Denver visiting this is a must see.

I do like the variety of the machines here. Hard to find a cocktail waitress depending on where your sitting. And they payout seems to be pretty good as well. Easy to find if you take the shuttle and are walking from casino to casino. The Cashiers are very friendly and personable as well.

This is by far the best hotel casino in Blackhawk. Poker room bad beat is usually 200k+ but they don't offer tournaments and the rake is high. Golden Gates host the most tournaments and it's right across the street from Ameristar. The cafe on first floor has good food for a decent price.

Log into their Star Rewards website and they have promo codes that lets you book hotel rooms for $39 Mon-Thu. Rooftop pool is open air during summer. Spa is small but clean and relaxing.

There's an app for that...the Ameristar place in Blackhawk.
Not that it matters; I'm not a gambler.

But the hotel - yikes! Very nice - room, bathroom, meeting rooms. Food served for the meetings - excellent!  Had an extremely convivial bartender - Eddie - who made that part of the night  just that much better.   Views are killer good as are the pools/hot tubs - inside and out!  No European bathing though.

Friday night there's a band (loud) playing on the first floor - some would say adds to the mood.  I found it hard to talk to friends above the din.

34 stories - hidden, practically from view from the road in front and 10 stories of parking - and still we kept driving up and up to 7th.

We stayed on the 26th floor - quiet, even for a Friday night.  Only complete bummer - word up - the alarm clock went off at 1:45 a.m. while we were asleep - so I hit it and it went off a few minutes later, so I reached around in the dark and yanked the plug out of the wall.  I knew the second blam was coming but had so much fun, too tired to yank the first time.

Noted Marissa's comments - and that night would've changed me from a fan to a never-again too but as luck would have it (not the gambling kind), we had a really good time.  Bring good friends...makes all the diff!

I recently went here with a friend of mine and we were extremely pleasantly surprised. The town of Black Hawk itself isnt much to look at and this huge high class hotel/casino is grossly out of place there. That being said, what a gem!! The rooms were extremely nice and reasonably priced. The food at the restaurants was nice but I too was shocked at how early they closed. The casino was great, smoke free, and the drinks are free with very minimum play. Valet parking is also free. We went to the spa as well which we really enjoyed. I really don't have a bad thing to say, what a treat!

So once again I headed to Blackhawk  for a casual day of low money gambling.

At Ameristar I played nickel slots which seem like a pretty good deal overall. I started with 5 bucks and got up to 16. Not bad for the risk adverse.

Downstairs I played Roulette. The board showing you the most recent numbers wasn't working so that kinda threw a kink in my strategy considering I was to lazy to write them down myself.

I got randomly carded which was interesting. I'm pretty sure I look well over 18 but I guess that's a compliment.

We visited this resort as part of a limo casino tour package we bought through Living Social with friends. This is by far the nicest casino and hotel in Black Hawk.  We mistakenly went to another one first. Nope. The Ameristar is beautiful inside. It had floors of games and when we were done gambling we found this awesome bar right in the middle with fireplaces and a live band ( the stage is an impressive raised platform above the bar, btw ). We hung out on comfy couches and our waitress brought me my new favorite drink, Blue Moon with OJ, which was only $3! We also grabbed some snacks Togo before getting back in the limo and the food was unexpectedly good. We had some fresh sweet potato fries ( fresh as in made to order with not frozen spuds, not fresh as in fly or dope. Actually...that too. ) Our friends said their breakfast burrito was amazing. The tables are expensive but you can find some fun slots ( like Princess Bride! ) and a friend doubled her money! Overall, totally fun ad would go back for sure!

We needed a quick getaway so we decided, why not?

I was very impressed with the room, clean, spacious, modern. There was a HUGE tub to soak in, so I indulged.

Decent gambling and the buffet was nice, my husband must have eaten 6 pounds of crab legs. For the price he got what he paid for.

The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the live band they had playing in the middle of the casino, while fun and played a great variety, we so loud we had to shout to hear each other. I usually only enjoy this when I'm at a concert.

I would recommend getting a room here though. Very nice!

This review is for Timberline Grill Restaurant only. Since I couldn't find a Yelp page just for this particular restaurant, I will post here.

Went early on Wednesday night and the restuarant was fairly quiet but did get much busier the later it got.

Since we were in a busy casino, and fairly close to the entrance, I figured we would hear all the hustle and bustle out in the casino but surprisingly the restauarant was quiet and you couldn't hear anything going on outside the restaurant. Fabulous! I can actually have a nice conversation with my dining partner.

I ordered 3 glasses of wine -- all different--shiraz, riesling, malbec--all very, very good in m opinion. Ordered the Heirloom Salad to start. Excellent. Red, Green, and Yellow tomatoes with goat cheese, greens, basil-mint dressing. Delicous and light and a nice starter. Husband ordered the wedge salad--typical--blue cheese, tom, bacon, iceberg. He enjoyed it.

We both ordered the Porterhouse with an add on lobster tail. I had mushrooms on the side, he had the potatos au gratin. My porterhouse was perfectly cooked to my liking and so big I had a meal for the next day. My lobster tail, split in 2, was a little tough. I only had 1 half and told my husband to eat the remaining half when he cooked up the left overs. The mushrooms were sauteed with garlic, olive oil and wonderful. The au gratin had a smokey pepper taste coming from the poblanos they diced in there and it was also a wonderful side.

We enjoyed a sorbet trio of strawberry, apple and orange-cranberry. The were good but the apple was the best. The other 2 tasted too artificial.

Our service was EXCELLENT. The young lady, Maria, was attentive, informed, and did a prestine job. The gentlemen who I take it was the manager also took the time to check on us twice. He, too, was very polite.

The tab without tip was just over $200 for 6 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees with Lobster Tails and sides, and 1 dessert. For the quality of food and service, I feel this was certainly a fair price. I felt completely satisfied with everything, overall. We will definitely return.

The Vegas bomb of all of Black Hawk's casinos. Ameristar is pretty, polished and ready to let you indulge in the seven deadly sins (maybe even all at once?!).

Greed...well duh, it's a casino. Why else are we here for?

Gluttony... One of the better, if not best buffets in BK. Decent grill for 24/7 munchies. Another restaurant. Even a starbucks?! Plus free drinks to get your drank on. Wooooo.

Envy... From always seeing people get bonuses on the Tarzan slots, but always failing to replicate the same results. Or the couple that won $700 on roulette. Lucky b*stards.

Wrath... Often accompanied with envy, this also may be reserved for drunk douches who pierce your eardrums on insignificant wins (or for no apparent reason). Also for people not paying attention on table games, miss hits on 21, etc. Note: the increase in wrath may be correlated with gluttony, specifically alcohol. Consume responsibly.

Lust... since you're drunk and feelin' lucky, right? And there's a hotel to take it to the next level ;)

Pride... No, you [insert expletive] slot machine!!! I've put some good money in and I'm not about to leave until I get my money, AND THEN SOME, back. Of course winning it back never seems to happen to me :(

Sloth... Because you're so damn tired from all of the above.

I'm giving this place 5 stars based on comparing other casinos in Black Hawk; Of course it's not like Vegas casinos, but it's a nice alternative for good ol' CO.

    Enjoy!

Walked in looking to spend $40 with the wife. I was up $30 on the blackjack table and then sat at a penny machine next to my wife and won $186! Grabbed the wife and we left and had lunch at Pei Wei! Then bought the wifey a new pair of jeans with my winnings!

PROS: I won money! The waitresses were very nice looking.

CONS: Never once was I offered a drink. I was asked for my ID no less than five times. They raised the minimum bet at the blackjack table from $5 to $10, so I got up and left.

Definitely the nicest casino I've been to at Blackhawk (probably because it's the newest, if I'm not mistaken). Parking in the garage at the time of day we arrived (early afternoon on a Sunday) was easy. Mom asked for information on where to eat and the guard made me present my ID and wear a wristband, which made me feel like I was a kid. I removed the wristband during lunch and had to present my ID again, when we later returned to the casino from The Lodge. I get the need to card and I guess I should have kept the wristband on to prevent having to show it twice, but I don't look THAT young . . .

After walking through the buffet (which we were welcomed to do by the staff), we decided on lunch at the Fireside Grill/Tavern upstairs. The service was forgettable (drinks went without refills for too long). The menu was uninspired, but the BBQ Ranch Chicken wrap and fries were decent. Mom liked her burger.

Gambling was so-so. I like the machines more than the other casinos - newer games and more variety. Slots weren't loose at all (though I've never had luck at any of the casinos at Blackhawk). Mom did well, though, and won about $80 on a John Wayne slot machine by the Starbucks.

Casino is really clean, nicely decorated. I doubt we'll ever stay in Blackhawk but if we did, we'd stay here.

Here's the thing.  I play poker when I "gamble."  Any other casino game is merely taking your shot at getting lucky.  The reason I really like this place is their poker rake is less than the Lodge, and it's currently the hot spot to play poker.  If you show up after 5 on a weekend night, expect to have to wait.

The action here is good, the bad beats are high since their so tough to get to now, and the dealers are some of the best I've encountered in Colorado.

The beverage ladies come around often and get your drink to you quick, the parking is easy, access to the casino is easy from the parking garage, and they have a player's card to take advantage of as well.

A new, very nice hotel with Vegas style gaming.  Sort of a Craftsman/Yosemite interior design.  Spectacular swimming pool with two whirlpools on the 34th floor!  Makes up for lack of video arcade for kids.  Very nice rooms that are designed well, with tub and separate shower. Direct TV.  Free parking.

Appears to be the largest casino in Blackhawk.  Situated in a carved out section of the canyon.  Hotel valet parking on the second floor.  Hotel lobby on the first floor.

    The Pros:

    - Beautiful accomodations.  My girlfriend and I stayed in one of the Deluxe Spa Suites which was complete with a wet bar, jacuzzi style tub, working fireplace, and living room area plus two 42 inch HDTVs.  It was wonderfully decorated and appointed.

    - Great rooftop pool and hot tub area.  They have both an indoor hot tub and pool on the rooftop.  In addition, there is another hot tub on the rooftop deck which offers views of the surrounding mountains.

    - Easy access to the casino and some good food options

    The Cons:

    - The hotel staff was horrid.  When we arrived, the temperature in the room was 86 degrees.  The thermostat was broken so we couldn't change the heat settings.  We called the front desk multiple times to send someone up and fix the issue with no resolution.  Someone came up and shut our shades instead of fixing the actual problem.  When we mentioned this during check out, the staff acted indifferent and didn't even apologize.

    - The cost of the rooms are prohibitive.  The spa suite we stayed in was $350 for the night ON A MONDAY. There are less expensive rooms but there are no rooms for less than $100-150.

    - I tried calling to make reservations for their Timberline Grill on 4 different occasions two weeks prior to our stay.  Twice I was sent to an automated message telling me the hours, once I was sent to the voicemail, and once I was told by the restaurant that they don't accept reservations.  When we got there for dinner, we were told they were booked and that we should have made reservations.  Very annoying.

All in all, I would not stay here again due to the inattentive staff and the high cost.  Aside from that, this is actually a wonderful hotel in a beautiful location.

Possibly the best hotel experience I have encountered Colorado. Upon checking in a mistake with our reservation surfaced.  Our guest agent went well out of her way to make sure that we were taken care of.  Not only did she get us the floor we requested but upgraded our room as well.  A big thank you to Noelle (Our front desk agent) and the hospitality of Ameristar staff; thanks to your help our trip went from being enjoyable, to amazing rather quickly.  To the sleep deprived Ameristar Hotel manager, your employee Noelle definitely deserves a raise and promotion.
I've never had so much fun paying the "idiot tax" (gambling) and the thanks is all due to the friendliness of the staff here and the company of the people who joined me for this adventure.

Dare I say it, but the Ameristar is the Bellagio of Colorado gaming. This is a really nice place gamble, I haven't stayed in the hotel yet. In general, a $10 minimum can be excpected on their table games, and their dealers are friendly, which I can't say for a lot of Blackhawk casinos.

They also have hot chocolate! Rich, sweet glorious hot chocolate!

I usually favor Ameristar when I have the gambling itch.  I play craps and this spot generally always has the hottest tables.  At $10 - $15 buy in, it's all good.

I love their drink station!  I don't have to wait for a waitress to stop by, I can just head over for hot chocolate, coffee or soda.  I don't mind getting my own in between gambling.

The "security" staff that work here are down right pests.  I guess there are too many underage folks creepin' in here on weekend nights which puts Reno 911 on the prowl.  I understand they're doing their job, but it appears to me that they're on commission or receive a bonus for the number of wristbands they put on people.  Are you kidding me?!?  Half the casino had on wristbands last Sat night!  I guess they should just start checking ID's at entrances and elevators.  I got hit up and my FH did not.  Trust me, this is hard to say (hehe), but I never get carded, my FH ALWAYS does.  He looks very young.  Anyhooo, I think the carding this is a little over the top though.

Overall, one of the better casinos in town.

This place is, far and away, the nicest casino and resort in Black Hawk.  The service is top notch, and cocktail servers will even take drink orders at the lower-stakes slots (which isn't the case at every casino, as you well know).

We took a tour of the hotel and resort tower.  It was jaw-droppingly amazing.  It definitely has a high-end look and feel.  The rooftop pool is absolutely breathtaking.  They have poolside cocktail service, and the deck of the outdoor hot tub balcony is heated (to keep drunk feetsies warm during the winter months).

One final shout-out to Aspen, one of the casino floor managers.  She really took care of us, and she deserves a two-week paid vacation.

Seriously, if you want to spend your Black Hawk time in a classy environment, come here.  The other places up there don't hold a candle to the Ameristar.  It comes closer to "Vegas" than anywhere else in town.

    GAMBLING...WITH YOUR LIFE

The casino is just fine.  The people are nice, it's smoke free, and they have a good selection of table games and slots.  Also, the poker room is respectable with a good amount of action.

The only issue I have with this casino is its location.  Imagine driving through a pitch black winding canyon road with cars hurtling toward you from the opposite direction, only one slip of the wheel, text message, or momentary lapse away from a head-on collision.

If you're going to go, I'd recommend driving back while it's still light out or staying overnight as the rooms are pretty cheap.

This is my favorite Casino in the area!!!  After a morning Fall Color drive, we decided to hit up Black Hawk for lunch...oh and of course some gambling.  There is a lot of parking so you don't have to worry about parking at another casino and walking over.

if you're looking to fill up your stomach, you can hit up the buffet.  We decided to check that out next time and stopped in the Fireside Kitchen for lunch.  Great service and good variety of food and prices.

If you're into slots, there is a lot real estate to choose from and claim your machine.  Lots of tables for poker, blackjack and roulette tables to choose from.

Casino also offers rooms and a spa if you looking to stay the weekend for a quick get away from Denver.

Ameristar is a must visit if you looking to cruise the Black Hawk strip!!

    Timberline Grill
    Blackhawk, CO

Quality dining in Style!  Located on the main gaming floor of the Ameristar Hotel and Casino, the Timberline Grill offers fabulous food in a relaxed cabin - lots better than your traditional Blackhawk buffet.  If you are looking to relax, chat with friends, and enjoy a great meal in a comfortable environment - this is the place to be, a winning hand!

Atmosphere:  The Timberline offers a comfortable yet classy Colorado cabin feel.  Entering, you immediately feel the warmth and escape from the constant ringing of slot machines.  The first thing you notice is the total wood interior nicely balanced between recycled bar, and accents of cherry throughout, and the centerpiece is a warm fireplace that makes you feel at home.  Whether cuddled in one of their cozy booths, or bellied up to more casual dining at the bar, you are sure to feel comfortable and welcome.

Food:  The menu is made up of quality items, not too many to be overwhelming, just fabulous food with diversity that encourages repeat visits.  I have tried many items on this menu and have never been dissatisfied.  Just come in hungry - the portions are good, and you will want to try a few items.  Items I come back for:  The Campfire Shrimp, Crab cakes, Lobster Bisque, Baby Back Ribs, and the Cedar Plan Salmon.  Always with a side of Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes!  I have yet to be disappointed by any dish, but gravitate to those mentioned - and this week....  I finished with the Chocolate Cake - It was hard to get back to the tables after that cake, but I managed.

Service:  Usually I start with service, which is the key to any great restaurant.  And I have nothing but good things to say about the crew here at the Timberline.  They are very knowledgeable, and make great recommendations.  If you like wine - sit at the bar and ask for Jessica.  She knows her wine and always makes a great recommendation!

Our room was so freakin awesome! We were celebrating a Birthday so we upgraded to a suite, it has a fireplace, a whirpool, and an extra living area. The King size bed was so deliciously comfortable and slept so good. The price wasn't completely out of line, but it is better to take some time of during the week to go up and stay instead of the weekends.

The rooftop pool was really enjoyable, and the outdoor hottub was so wonderful under the stars. However the pool and tub close at 10pm.

I signed up for the special reward program, and get the monthly coupons. Get discounts on rooms, coupons for the buffet, and cash rewards to get you up there to spend money. :-)
I like the casino set up, and did win, however this place does get really crowded on certain nights and sometimes hard to get on a poker table.

I use to stay at the Isle and will stay there again, but if I have to pick from now on I will stay at the Ameristar.

This is my favorite casino in colorado.  They buffet is alright but nothing special.  Is any buffet really that good but whatever.  This place is very nice inside and out.  My game of choice is always craps and there usually is room to play all the time.  The rooms are really nice here too.

F.Y.I: This casino is UP IN THE CUTS! Even if you don't win at the casino, you're already a winner just surviving that drive through the mountains at night...its a little dangerous I must say!

Driving through the town on your way to the casino makes you feel like your in an old western movie :) Ameristar is freakin huge and looks very appealing to the eye from the outside.  Once inside, its like any other casino...there's Slot machines everywhere u look! The worst part about this place is that you can only order one drink at the bar and have to wait 20 min until they serve you another drink! WHAT THE.... Only good thing was shots of crown were $4 unless u were getting them for free at the tables or slots...which u should be! The decor was nice and it didn't have that nasty smoke smell inside...the employees were nice but the tables were a little pricey with the minimum bets ($15 min for a craps table...ill pass). Ameristar is a nice casino but there wasn't anything that really caught my eye and to me it just seemed like another casino.  Yelpers remember to drink & gamble responsibly :)

I didn't get a chance to gamble here at all, but I did experience the hotel and food side of things.

A+ for the rooms. We stayed in a regular room with a king bed. The room and bathroom were incredibly spacious! It had a very comfy and classy atmosphere. I had to fight of urges to do cartwheels in the room, just because I had the space to.

D- for the check in process. Ugh, we waited 30 minutes in line to check in. With about 15 people before us and another 50+ people building up in line behind us, for the majority of the time, only two check in attendants were working. Seriously?

C+ for the ballroom facilities. I was attending a holiday part for my husband's company. The food and drinks were great! The bartender and wait staff were taking good care of everyone. Well, until all of the booze dried up. From what I understand, they didn't stock enough and we eventually ran out of everything. My husband's office admin was not happy because she had arranged for an unlimited open bar for a certain amount of time. It didn't bother me as I wanted to get out and start gambling, but it was quite an oops, especially when I can imagine how much they paid for that to be arranged.

A+ for the Starbucks inside. After a night of drinking, need I say more?

B for the late night deli / pizza / sub shop. It was open when we needed it, and served us greasy food when we wanted it. Not the best, but did the job.

So, I thought the hotel rooms were the absolute highlight of this place. Probably would stay again, but almost certainly won't be back for another work function.

Ok, so this really isn't a fair review. Only based on the gaming, facilities and people. Haven't stayed here but will based on visiting here.

So I was bored, my friend and I drove up to Black Hawk and saw a goliath of a building. I mean literally this place is HUGE! Parked and walked in and was in casino heaven!

CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! I mean it's new but so nice. All of the employees were friendly and open to answering all questions we had. The security guard told us to check out the hotel which we did. The bell man took us to the 34 story to see the pool and the views.. I mean AWESOME! I can only imagine how nice the rooms are.

Its no vegas what so ever, but I'll most def be back and stay here when I come back to Black Hawk.

Without having stayed here, the 5-star rating is really as good as it gets in Black Hawk. I visited here for the first time last weekend to get out of the city for a few hours to meet some friends for brunch and to do some gambling. We had the champagne brunch at the Centennial Buffet, which was really a great experience in itself. The food was very good, and there's more than enough to choose from and the glass champagne doesn't hurt either.

Speaking of more than enough, when it comes to gaming, there is something for everybody and the options are plentiful. Everyone at the Ameristar is helpful and friendly. I dont do alot of gambling, but I can honestly say that I will definitely return to the Ameristar.

    Poker Room Review.

Now that the betting limits are raised... we got us some poker in Colorado! Woot! I've been here two times. The first time must have been "Family Night". It was July 4th weekend and the limits were JUST raised about $5 max, I was placed at the table where there were 4 couples. WTF. That's never happened before, and the staff does not make an effort to stop them from working as teams against the rest of the table.

Ok, so I suppose it's not easy for the casino to look after the player's best interest. I bet if someone were cheating the casino though... BAM!!! Yeah, you know! Pfffft.

The second time I played it was more normal, the higher betting limits aren't new anymore. I played the 1/2 $100 game. There's NO LIMIT to the buy-in which is nice, even though there's still a $100 max bet. It was a good game, but the $100 cap is a little limiting. I can't see how a 2/5 $100 game would be better, since you're still capped at a $100 max bet, but now your max bet is only 20x the Big Blind (as opposed to 50x in the 1/2). There's just not as much room to re-raise and muscle people off marginal hands.

Either way, I was at a loose table. Nobody really folds, so please don't tell me there's more action at a game with higher blinds.

By the way, the rake is RIDICULOUS!!! $5 plus $2 for a jackpot that's never hit. The bad beat is quad's beatin' and it's capped at $325,000 and there's two back up jackpots after that at $325,000 and the STILL drop $2. WOW... $7 outa everypot. That's a bit much.

It was really nice casino.  My first time to Blackhawk, Colorado.  We got there about 8pm not really knowing what to expect.  It was like a mini Vegas nestled in the mountains.  I was expecting it to be on a Indian reservation. Nope. Awesome.  The garage parking was nice, easy, and free.  I was expecting to have to pay for drinks.. they were free too.  They didn't have high limit tables either which is good.  All the dealers were friendly.  I think if I go back I would like to stay here!

So I got a free room coupon from my player's card, which I haven't used in forever.  We had to book a week and a half in advance, but it was about 10 times nicer than Isle of Capri (which we won't stay at, even if free, partially due to the alarming green carpet and complete discomfort of the rooms - YUCK).

We were so impressed with the hotel.  We stay in Vegas a lot and it was pretty typical of a nicer hotel on the strip.  I have zero complaints.  The room was elegant and very large.  The bathroom was tile and marble and very nice.  The room was spotlessly clean and the bed was very, very comfortable.  They had a nice flat screen with quite a few channels, including HBO.  The staff was friendly and quiet.  There were no loud neighbors...

We never stay in Blackhawk/Cental City, but we would actually pay to come back here and stay again.

Had a pretty good time at the new Ameristar today- i like the luxury feel in this area. They kept a mountainy vibe without making it too rustic or letting it be rundown and calling it rustic. They have a large selection of machines, and luckily my Dad found some poker he was able to walk into.

I was surprised that they don't have as many progressive penny slots, or the bigger, more attractive machines, (Wheel of Fortune progressive, Jaws, Star Trek, Deal or No Deal, etc.). They had a few but nearly no progressive jackpots. Not that I'm often playing max-bet, but those machines are fun and exciting even if you don't play progressive.

They have a lot of self-serve beverage machines throughout the casino. That might seem like a silly touch, but is probably great for the casino staff, since it means their waitresses do not need to get people non-alcoholic drink orders. It's also nice to just be able to go get something yourself without that dependent feeling casinos/Vegas seem to invoke.

I signed up for the rewards card, so we'll see what comes of it- they don't have as good a selection in games as some of the other casinos, but the number of machines and nice feel of the building led us to stay for the afternoon.
