We don't drink or gamble, so this is just for the Hotel. Excellent rooms, wonderful amenities. Great job on the renovation.
Wonderful amenities: shower & soaking tub, toilet off the shower/ bath/ counter area in small little room. 2 person desk with good lamp, 4 outlets within easy access. Counch was comfortable with armrest/ end table. Very comfortable bed & soft sheets. Loved the bench at the end of the bed, wih cubbies for shoes. Flat screen tv with way too much cable to get any work done. Very large cabinet with fridge (microwave down the hall by the ice), 3 large drawers, 1 small drawer & 3 shelves for clothes storage. Closet with shelf & plenty of nice wooden hangers. Bedside tables with drawers & cabinets, lamps with 2 outlets each. Loved the black, red white, silver decor.
We will stay here the next time in E Chicago! -

But that's not why the 4 stars. To be honest, the casino is kind of small, and really annoying since it's not all on one floor. It's like 5 floors each with 3 rooms of games. Some of the games were broken, when you call for help no one will come, you cannot take pictures in the casino even though there aren't any signs that say that, just a super dick who goes around and says "Ay! No pictures!" and then when you say soory, he says "No, you're not" and then under your breath you say 'I know I'm not but you didn't have to call me on it.' And then he'll continue on and say "You do that again and imma take that phone away from you.' And then you say 'No you f*cking won't', and then that's the end of it. #Lame
But I still ended up winning.
And they had a Ghostbusters game with Bill Murray on the screen... even though it was a major change chugger.
And they had a red panda game... again, another change chugger.
But THEN we found our winning ticket game and that's where we spent the next few hours listening to the sweet sounds of ka-ching.
What I really liked about the casino, was that every 90 days they swap out the new machines so ish doesn't get stale or insanely jammed up like at other casinos (coughcoughhorseshoe).
And then onto the hotel...
Not much to look at on the outside (connected to the casino), but they just got some major rehab and everything is totes new and totes fab. First off, all the rooms are HUGE. They're like double-wide, less trashy rooms at other hotels. The cushioned bench at the end of the beds has a cutout underneath that's the perfecto place for shoes... I wish all benches/stools were made like that. The carpet is extra foamy and soft. After 2 glasses of wine and a shot of Bailey's in my casino coffee, I was ready to lay down and nap the crap out of that casino hotel carpet. But I refrained. I refrained, and I made it back to the hotel bed which was some kinda magic memory foam and put my ass right to bed.
Would I go back? Well, lemme put it this way. I just got an email for $50 free dollars in casino credit that I'm 1000% positive I can turn into $500.

Wow! I haven't back here since I think it was Harrah's or maybe right when they changed over to Ameristar. I have to say it looks a lot better and brighter and felt a bit like Vegas.
If you love slots.....this is the PLACE! They have so many new ones that I haven't seen at the other casinos, but there are limited table games. I was a bit surprised at that.
Anywhoo......nice place to check out. -

The buffet in their Heritage Buffet is decent at $20 pp, and they have huge, tender oxtails on Sat nite. That in itself was a treat. Pretty large selection of other buffet items, and most but not all selections were decent quality. BBQ ribs, and pot stickers were cardboardy and pretty atrocious. Prime rib, chicken marsala, honey chicken, crab salad, and especially the oxtails were quite good.

Came here for a mini honeymoon with the hubby, the hotel room was very clean, comfortable, and I loved the bathroom with the deep tub. Now as for the casino, it was very small, I was not to excited about the slot machines they offered. I played only one during my two day stay. The buffet was around 13.99 for dinner, all you can eat. The food was really good, did not have a huge selection but still a nice buffet. I will return when I need a quick getaway. I would have given it 4 stars for just the hotel room alone, but my overall experience was about a 3

I used call this place home, it was close enough to work, so that a quick visit after work was easy. Played enough to make it to the second tier on their players card, which then I was assigned a casino host (first initial D). All was great, give her a call if I needed a room or anything else. But I guessing that my level of play most have slipped, because no more return phone calls from my host and no more free rooms. It would have been great if they just told me that I went down to the first level card, instead I just got the cold shoulder.
When I first started going there when it was Resorts, thing were a lot better. The dealers would know you by name and as you walked by they would acknowledge your presence. As Ameristar, they even look at you if you are sitting at their table. Unless you are the same nationality as they are, no matter where. I never seen such a bunch of stone faces dealers. Another thing was limit or stop the pit bosses from giving out comps at the table. Used to be if you were there for a couple of hours playing cards, they would throw you a little freebie.
The only bright spot here is the buffet. The food is great tasting and the wait staff is very attentive. The management also comes around during your meal and asks how is everything. It is a shame that the casino staff can't be more like the buffet staff. -

What a weird drive on multiple highways to get to a smoke filled, sort of depressing casino. Seriously, we almost drove off the road to find this dang place. How about some lights, eh, Indiana?
Anywho, they had Airplane! penny slots so I was happy but I'm not sure it was worth my clothes reeking of cancer stick smoke for a day. My FBIL won some dough so that was great and there was excellent people watching - a purple fur coat!?!?! -

I love going to the casino strictly for the buffet meals ;-). Seafood crab leg night on Fridays is awesome. I love the food, and the affordable pricing, and the desserts yummy, and so much to choose from. Its a great place for a group, family and children. Very nice wait staff, and management, very clean and the presentation of the food is nice also. I would definitely recommend to others to try it.

Tried to give this place another chance. But then a fight broke out while I was there. Really??? People actually fight over penny slot machines?!?!? Pssshh, thats why I stick to Roulette. I don't think I'll be back.

Best Buffet of all the casinos around. The crab legs are plentiful, the Prime Rib is perfectly rare and the oysters are always tasty. They also have sushi and a great GREAT Sweet and Spicy Shrimp. The buffet is small which has good and bad points. Sometimes the wait is long but once seated, you don't have to go far for a plate of food.

They don't pay like they should,,,been waiting three weeks for my check and they can't say why,they should just close down and the service is sloppy and those are the rudest people I have ever came across,from the cooks to the staff,please close this boat down

This Casino is amazing!! I would highly reccomend this casino to anyone looking to have a good time! The service is outstanding and I have never been treated better at any other hotel/casino in the area.

First of all, this casino is hard to find. There are tons of billboards along the freeway that manage to get you in the general vicinity, but they need more signs at street-level to help you find the facility.
The interior decor feels very 1970's... in a BAD way. There is garish, red neon lighting everywhere. (I felt like I was in a movie filmed in the 1970's, but set in the year 3,000. It's like, they did their best with what they had to make it look cool and classy and futuristic... but what they had was shag carpeting and cheap neon.) I did not eat at the restaurants, but they looked terrible. Same for exploring the gift-shop. Restrooms were adequately clean.
The casino floor was very smoky and had a lot of slots, but VERY FEW table games. (There was a line to play at some of them, while other tables sat unopened and fallow. Clearly, they needed to hire more dealers to work at peak times.)
Customer service was lousy. The security guards just chatted with their friends. There were long lines for slot-players to cash out. I saw one, lonely corner bar on the second level. Otherwise, drink service appeared to be nonexistent.
The three-tiered layout of the casino was cool and funky (but not enough to bump it to 2-star range).
To improve, the Ameristar Casino could (deep breath) :
- Erect more street signs to direct customers to the front door.
- Redesign the gloomy interior (using its cool, 3-tiered structure to its advantage)
- Make sure that ALL table games are staffed, considering their modest number
- Better food and more booze
- Better customer service
They could also do something crazy to make themselves distinctive and do an "end run" around all their failings. (Like, for example, if they made the minimum bet on table games $2 or $3. That's the ONLY reason I think I'd ever come back here.) -

This used to be good when it was Resorts East Chicago, has gone downhill since Ameristar bought it.
They took away table games, Blackjack is 8 decks and hits soft 17. Have lots of slots now there are less tables.
Restaurants, while it was Resorts the buffet and sports bar was good. Have not eaten there since it became the Ameristar. The sports bar used to be filled with memorabilia, now it is completely barren. The type of crowd going there now has gone down hill. It is a much rougher crowd now. Overall stay away -

Went to the buffet. It was decent. The line for the buffet was about 20-30 minutes. The crab legs were plentiful. Did not feel bad having piled up two plates of crab legs considering everyone else was doing it. The legs were cooked perfectly. The prime rib was excellent. the severs are on top of their game here. They always took your dirty plates and always made sure you had a drink. For $20 it's worth it. The only problem I have with this place is getting there and leaving. It is kind of confusing due to the construction. Other than that I would recommend it. Crab legs are only served on Saturdays.

was here two saturdays ago to find out they moved crab leg night to friday, stayed ate anyway cream corn was really good and i usually dont eat it and the ox tails were really good you just had to look for the right one, so came back on a friday it was right around 6 pm, it was a line but it was not that long, noticed that the line had a sign that said something about the cards which we did not have so we walked straight to the front of the line and were promptly seated people finally caught on that there were two lines. so the price is now 25 but its still worth it. the key is to get the crab legs as they are putting them out just wait if they are low. they were good for the most part a few batches were way over cooked but for the most part they were really good the salmon was kinda dry, mac and cheese is good. the deserts kinda suck no chocolate cake they had a cheesecake that looked really good but they ran out, the little red velvet cake things are way to sweet they had no cookies that night. it is really weird going there but i left stuffed with crab legs for 25 so it was all good. the line and the wait can become off the chain so get there early.
