Kate Wilusz recently spoke at a Future Women Leaders event in San Francisco entitled: Personal Financial Planning 101. Just to provide some background - Future Women Leaders is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that enables women in the San Francisco Bay Area to further develop themselves personally/professionally- and the purpose of the event was to provide an overview of money management and to instill attendees with a feeling of empowerment so they are better able to manage their own finances.
The event was sold out with a waitlist weeks prior to its occurrence - so clearly a popular topic. Kate gave a fantastic ~2 hour presentation that hit on all the major topics relating to personal finance - i.e. savings goals, insurance, retirement, taxes, debt management, etc. We asked attendees to evaluate the speaker through an anonymous survey - feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Frequent written-in comments pointed to Kate's excellent presentation skills and extensive knowledge base. Respondents also noted that they felt they had received the tools to improve their money management skills. Kate was a very warm/outgoing, intelligent and well-spoken presenter, and we are looking forward to inviting her back for future events. -

In a word, poor advice and fees up the ass. In fact, they charge you $100 just to close your account.
Their mutual funds charge high annual fees (designed to make your advisor and not you rich).

Walter is a great financial advisor. He's not one of those cutthroat brokers that is just out to get your commission on trades. But he knows his mutual funds and more "conservative" investments like the back of his hand. He'll help you diversify that portfolio, set up some good disability/health/car insurance, set up your retirement accounts, and hook you up with loan brokers to buy that house. He knows his tax law well, and can tell you how your investments will affect your taxes.
Sure, most of us have 401k's in our companies now, but you need to get a Roth IRA through a broker like him. And he'll give you some good spread numbers for your retirement portfolio.
More important than all that, Walter is a very nice, honest guy. He follows through on what he says and he goes to bat for you. He's always very responsive when you call or e-mail him. And he remembers who you are, and your financial goals/situation.
Walter just kicks ass. He's exactly what I wanted in a financial advisor. If he asks, tell him I referred you ;). -

Troy Evans it they kind of professional you would send your single mother to for the advice she really needs. I have had over 5 year experience with Troy and I feel after all of the interaction with other professionals, he is the one who will manage my money, retirement and advise on all matters financial and otherwise in my life until I am no longer here. What I like most about Troy Evans is his common sense approach in meeting and interacting with people. He is an expert listener. He is empathetic and kind, but he also can turn on the juice by effectively asking questions and calling you on the areas where there have been mistakes and making productive, positive suggestions in order to make improvements to your returns and better align assets with goals and timelines.
I have referred dozens of clients that has either bought or sold a home to Troy to get their portfolio straightened out and seeking advice. Troy is extremely effective in person and I always recommend that people take the time to visit with him and really engage.
Troy's wife is a U.S. Olympic Snow Ski Champion. He has a wonderful 2 year old and 5 month old which balances out his practice as well as his own personal affinity for mountain biking, downhill skiing and numerous other physical activities that he enjoyes. Often times, Troy is found lighting a BBQ at his home where he and his family often entertain - they are excellent cooks!
I always hear from satisifed real estate clients of mine how fortunate they feel for having met Troy and they always thank me for the wonderful things he has done for their returns. This is one guy you want to get an appointment with - FAST! -

Don't give your money to Ameriprise - they will pigeon hole you into whatever funds they are getting bonuses for. When the market tanked, my guy never even sent me an email (forget about an actual phone call) to let me know that my account had lost more than a luxury auto would cost in one month and to suggest any alternatives.
When I contacted him and asked if there were any other better funds for my account, he basically just told me that I should stay put.
When I started looking closer at my situation, I spoke with other financial advisors who alerted me to the fact that if I kept my account in these funds that not only would I have severe losses, but that there was going to be a capital gains accrued that would have to be paid come tax time.
The only way I could avoid taking the hit was to sell the funds before the year ended.
I called my guy to ask him about this and his reply was "well, that's true but I was going to move you out of this before the cutoff date"
Yea, right....bottom line, I pulled up my stakes and got the heck out of dodge.
The biggest problem with Americrime is that they nail you with fees when you buy a fund, so your advisor will likely hold you in the fund until you recoup the money otherwise you'll just get hit with more fees when he moves you. This makes it unlikely you will have a guy that really works your money, he'll just cost average you to death with lousy funds.
It's the McDonalds of financial advisors....

My introduction to the world of financial planners and the excitement they can stir started a few years ago at a party. I overheard some girls RAVING about how "Kate" had saved them tons of $$$ over the past year, straightened out their finances, really knows what she is doing, is available to answer any questions and explain why you should be doing A and B if you want to get to C. Did I mention that they talked about how "tough" she was- making them examine goals for their life AND finances. So on a Friday night, AT A PARTY, I am thinking I have to find out who "Kate" is and how can I hire her to sort out my finances.
Needless to say, Kate Wilusz has rocked my financial world too! She will make you examine all areas of your life and then align that with your goals for now and the future. I highly recommend Kate- she is a great organizer, advisor, listener and all around superstar "financial life coach." -

Walter is an excellent financial advisor. There is no judgment and no, "you spent how much money on a mountain bike?!" Instead, he works with you to get you to the point where you realize that when you are able to save money and get your financial life in order, you can get a clearer picture of options, and scenarios for all of your next steps in life, mortgages, going back to school, retirement, etc. He also has general excellent financial advice, which loans to pay off first, etc. I highly recommend him.
