The restaurant is sort of hidden in this shopping center. There isn't a big sign to find it either but the sign is very colorful which you can't miss. By far the best Italian restaurant I've been to! I went to eat there on Sunday evening for work Xmas dinner. It was very quiet and dim setting.
It's on the pricey side but worth it. The waiter wasn't too friendly though. He kept making remarks which we couldn't tell if he meant it as a joke or an insult.
They gave us complimentary bread and their olive oil dipping sauce was the most amazing sauce I ever tasted. It had a very strong smell but tasted great. We ordered the fried calamari to start off with and it was pretty good. The calamari was huge!
For dinner, I told the waiter to give me their best pasta dish. He ordered the linguine pescatore. OMG it was soooo good! There was an abundance of seafood in there. There were scallops, shrimps, mussels, clams, and clumps of crab meat. I had a lot of seafood to go with my noodles. Usually I run out of seafood towards the end and eat nothing but noodles. But not here! I had plenty of seafood with every bite of noodles. The size of the shrimp, crab and scallops were huge but mussels and clams on the smaller size. The creamy sauce was perfect. Not too creamy. The noodles cooked perfectly. Just melts in your mouth with every bite.
Others ordered penne nina, snapper amerigo, salmon fillet, and new York strip steak. NOT A SINGLE COMPLAINT! Everything was delicious. Only a few ordered the sides and they said it was good as well.
For dessert, I ordered creme brûlée. I think all creme brûlée tastes the same. Nothing that stood out. Others ordered Italian cream cake, white chocolate mousse and apple tart with ice cream. The Italian cream cake and white chocolate mousse were extremely sweet. Every where I go, the Italian cream cake has been very sweet. The apple tart with ice cream and creme brûlée were good though.
We spent a total of about 2 hours here. Not by choice though. The food takes forever to come out so I'm glad we got there at 5:30 because we didn't eat dinner until about 6:45 or so. I don't know why it took so long. There were a total of three parties dining including our party. We had 8 people in our group and the other two tables consisted of two people each. Maybe they were busy with the private party upstairs? Not sure how many people were up there but there weren't that many cars in the parking lot.
I still give it 5 stars because the food was great. Service could have been a little but better. I look forward to dining here again!!! -

I can always count on Amerigos to deliver a special night out. We went to celebrate a birthday with friends. It was a Wednesday evening and the place was a bit dead. Asked the waiter what the soup of the day was and the response was "Just some rice and spinach.." with a hint of "meh". Appreciated the honestly but made it feel like food quality wasn't a priority.
Bread and salads were fine but the NY strip stood out. My friends and I really enjoyed it. The place is nicely decorated I probably would have had a better impression if it didn't look so empty. Might have been more lively on a weekend.
I wouldn't rush back to eat there but overall I though it was pretty decent. -

Amerigo's is one of the few finer dining establishments in the immediate area. Serving Italian standards, the decor is classy and comfortable, including a wood-lined bar. It is located in a sizable commercial park, so it's a great place to take business colleagues for a fancier lunch or dinner located close-by.
The prices for lunch entrees hover in the $12-25 range, but there are also quite a few cheaper sandwich and appetizer offerings with healthy servings for lunch. Like many Italian restaurants, there's a heavy focus on wine, and they have a decent wine list.
The food was mostly a hit. The bread was good. The beef carpaccio had just enough to treat all 6 of us with at least a bite. And the fried octopus was piled high, light and delicious. The ceaser and dinner salads were generously portioned, and both were quite good.
I had a shrimp alfredo, with perfectly blackened juicy shrimp on top of a rich (good, but not exceptional) Alfredo sauce. Another had a fish filet that he kept ooo-ing over. Another had chicken in a reduced wine sauce with mushrooms and pasta, that was too reduced, and with porcini (?) mushrooms that were too chewy and did not complement the texture of the slightly overcooked pasta and chicken. I did not care for this dish after a taste, even though it looked great on the menu.
The service was ok. It seemed a bit awkward, and I didn't feel like the servers really knew the menu that well when we asked questions. The water and iced tea were filled, but spottily. Also, after we ordered, we had to wait a while for each course, which at lunch can get to be a long time if you have to get back to work.
PROS: Most of the meals were good, and generously portioned. Good wine list, but a bit on the high side, pricewise.
CONS: Service was ok, but not polished. The menu is fairly standard. One dish was not particularly cooked well, nor did it taste good. -

I've been coming here for 15 years (since I was kid and probably should have been left home while my parents went). Amerigo's is a unique experience in The Woodlands. Admittedly, it used to be much more unique, being about the only fine dining experience around. Now, there are plenty of expensive restaraunts nearby, but Amerigo's is special. Locally owned and active in the community -- and the food is wonderful, too.
We had a lovely experience (as always), though there was one aspect that was less than ideal. Our waiter had a very strong accent and I had to focus hard to be able to understand what he was saying. To compound the problem, he tried to make jokes throughout the meal. He wasn't corny and it would have been acceptable but for the fact that he was so hard to understand. I wish I had sat in another section. Regardless, I still highly recommend Amerigo's. -

Tucked away in the wooded Woodlands area, this place is a gem for Italian food lovers.
Very tastefully decorated, Amerigo's is a classy restaurant with an exclusive mouthwatering menu of delicious fare.
My friend had the calamari for starters and I ordered the grilled portabella mushrooms. The mushrooms were just right and all but melted with a bite. The calamari was crisp and delicious. They have an extensive wine list. My friend had the sea bass for the main course and I had the off-menu wild boar. The food here is beyond words and you just have to try it for yourself. Everything is just perfect and the dining experience here is without parallel in entire Houston. The sea bass was done just right with the tantalizing flavors wafting through to excite an already heightened sense of instant and prolonged gratification of the taste buds. The fork cut through it like a hot knife on butter yet the texture of the tender meat was the right kind of perfect chew. The wild boar was ambrosia.
Make reservations. This restaurant is pricey but definitely worth the money. -

Interesting first time experience...my wife and I were seated and handed a wine menu. A few minutes later our waiter approached and asked if we had selected a wine yet. I told him we had not yet seen a menu to which he responded "after you pick your wine, we will suggest what to eat with it."
I almost had to argue with him to get a menu so we could get on with our meal.
With that said, the food was good although a bit pricey and the service for the rest of the meal was fine.
One other plus, they had a very pleasant piano bar entertainer. After all, a good stool fool these days is hard to find. -

The service is pretty disappointing here. Expect long waits, overpriced food/wine, and a below par Italian food experience.
You can do much better for Italian food in Houston. Go elsewhere. You will thank me later. :) -

Stiff atmosphere due to the fancy dining establishment. Great for a date or corporate function. You like wine!? Please visit on Friday evenings for their famous tastings.

For years, the best restaurant in the Woodlands area. Sadly, the food and service has slipped over the years, and they're coasting on their reputation these days. Northern Italian is the specialty here, but the cooking doesn't measure up to the asking price.
Lovely spot, piano music for those who want to dance to the oldies. -

I have been to Amerigo's twice. The first was for lunch, right after I'd flown in from California. It was good, but a while ago, so I can't really review much of that visit. My second time here was for my younger brother's high school graduation dinner.
First highlight for this particular time comes with their flexibility and understanding. Graduation ceremonies ran late, traffic was bad, and as a result we had to keep bumping our reservations. When all was said and done, we got there an hour and a half late. The hostess was great about it, and the waiter seemed just as cool. We were seated at a round table on the 2nd level of the restaurant and had a great view of their atrium/patio out front. (You never know you're dining near a major boulevard and freeway thanks to this great addition to the restaurant.)
Second highlight: Our awesome service. The gentleman taking care of us knew it was a special occasion and ensured we all enjoyed his company. He even gave my brother a complimentary sampling of three dessert plates.
While my meal was great (I had the fillet), I would argue that it was a bit overpriced. Everyone else said their dish was tasty, but all agreed that each plate had something "off" about it. Not necessarily in a bad way, but more of a "I would never thought to put those things together" way. In other words, the fusion choices they made for their "Italian" dishes were just unique.
I also think it's worth mentioning that overall, you're paying for the atmosphere here. I would definitely recommend it for romantic date (check out the piano bar, too) or a small group of friends celebrating. For larger groups, the bill grows rapidly thanks to most entrees being overpriced by $5-8. Regardless, my brother had a great graduation dinner and we all enjoyed ourselves, a lot of thanks to our fun server. -

We've been coming to Amerigo's since we moved to Texas five years ago.
Overall, the food is amazing. We've had everything from bruschetta to Chilean Sea Bass to fried ravioli. The ONLY thing that is sub par about their food is their bread. They give you several slices of bread that doesn't seem to be very fresh and several slices of fruit/nut bread... with olive oil? YUCK. What they need to do is simplify - a nice, freshly baked, small loaf of white Italian bread for every 2 - 3 people at a table - OO LA LA!!!
The staff is fantastic. This is as close to white linen service as you'll get in the area. They know their food, they know their wine and they don't over-attend the tables but are there when you need them.
There is a great piano bar at the front of the restaurant where one can enjoy a before and/or after dinner drink and listen to the pianist. More often than not, some people spend the entire evening in the bar area as the service and atmosphere are great.
There is a large outdoor area with several tables for dining or drinks or taking a quick smoke-break.
The staff is always very friendly to us, from the busmen to the manager, everyone stops by and says "Hello" and works together to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Try the tiramisu, it's outstanding!
Nothing beats a piece of tiramisu with a cup of freshly brewed coffee with a snifter of Sambuca on the side!
They also have an extensive wine list. The prices might make you gasp, but they are completely worth it! -

Uh, no. Just a disappointing experience. Where shall I begin - how about the end? $225.00 for a meal not worth $25.
Dessert. Nothing fantastic - looked nothing like what was presented from the dessert tray. In fact, my wife ordered bread pudding and they brought out creme brulee. Huh? I had an "apricot roll" which was decidedly different than what was presented and unimpressive.
Entrees, a $38, 10 ounce filet that was "the toughest filet I have ever eaten" - over cooked - waste of time and money and the "house specialty" a "boar chop" also $38, which was an unimpressive piece of dry pork. Both entrees served with some potatoes and asparagus. I started with a "chopped salad" which was really nothing special - better salad at Luby's. Waiter was a good guy who tried hard......tried hard to get us to order a $100 bottle of wine that I could pick up anywhere for under $25. We did order a 2007 Chappellet Cabernet Sauvignon and they served a 2008 Mountain Cuvee which is a blend of 2% Cabernet Sauvignon 43% Merlot 3% Petit Verdot 1% Cabernet Franc 1% Malbec. The price difference between the two is significant - were they trying to pull a fast one? Was hoping for a special evening - Amerigos failed miserably. Just not even close. You had your one shot Amerigos. Never again. -

Spectacular food. Good wine list. Service can't be beat. I've been with large groups for business dinners, and with just a few friends; we were treated well every time. It's a lovely place, and I'll definitely go back next time I'm in the Woodlands.

I love this place. The service is excellent and the food is even better. They have an extensive wine list and great apps. My favorite is the mozzarella, tomato and basil salad. I dine here on a regular basis.

My wonderful girlfriend took me here for my birthday. I will admit that I had never been here before, but it was a great find. Dimly lit for dinner so it was very romantic. They had someone playing piano in the bar which really set the mood. We had escargot for our appetizer and it was delicious. I had the venison medallions while she had a very large chopped salad. The venison was mouth watering tender and the red wine sauce worked perfectly with the meat. Our waiter was very attentive and service was great. It's a shame I had not been to the place, but in the future it will be a great place for a nice evening out.

I went to this restaurant for the first time last night and was very disappointed. After having a reservation at 8:15, I still waited 45 minutes for a table, then once seated waited another 30 for a menu, and an additional 15 on top of that for a napkin. That kind of service is unacceptable, and I would not recommend going to this restaurant. The food we ordered (mainly seafood) was average, but when it arrived at 10:30 both myself and the other people at the table didn't have much of an appetite. The guy playing the piano in the piano bar, is the only thing I would recommend at this restaurant.

My husband and I went to Amerigo's for Restaurant Week. This is a winner. Everything was perfect-from the delicious bread all the way through dessert and coffee. Our waiter Alijandro [Ali] was great. We were there at 4pm and as far as we could tell, we were the only diners in the restaurant. Being the only diners at an early hour in a restaurant can sometimes spell disaster----not this time tho. Glad we've discovered Amerigo's.

Houston Restaurant Week (HRW), off to a bang for us on Monday when my wife and I stopped in at this -- for us -- local place for a bite. Atmosphere gets 5 stars overall, and the waiter, Kyle, was accomodating and professional. The crowd was light, but that's Monday for a lot of restaurants. My wife ordered the classic Caesar salad, salmon fillet, and chocolate cheesecake. I had the chef's lemon and artichoke soup, the Pollo Zingara, and the apricot roulade. Food was good and at times great overall. Her experience improved with each element: the Casear was relatively plain, and the salmon rather "salmony," that is, it tastes of fish only, and was not particularly savory, otherwise. My soup was sensational, my entree, divine, and dessert delicious. I would highly recommed all three. The wine paring was the better than the one at the Mockingbird Bistro where we supped later in the week, but not as good as one at Textile a year ago. I would give the food a 4-4.5, and the wine a 4/5. I like this place and I think you would too.
