I came here for a business dinner.  Granted, Americas is a bit pricey.  However, their food is really good.  I wanted a light dinner, so aside from the group order of the Chef's Appetizer Special, I had the empanadas, black bean soup, and the alfajores (besame mucho).

The empanadas are deep fried, for those who may be expecting the baked style, which is what I had in Argentina.  The black bean soup was simply phenomenal - it came in a sour bread bowl with cheese melted over the top of the bowl top.  It wasn't too huge a bread bowl but satisfying enough that I could have had that alone for dinner.  The alfajores were more Peruvian-style: little shortbreads more so than a sugar cookie in taste.

The ambience is lovely here although sometimes a little impractical like the rocks in the sink which prevent you from being able to sufficiently wash your hands under the faucet...

ESQUIRE MAGAZINES TOP 20 STEAKS IN AMERICA

Decided to treat ourselves to dinner at Americas.  Initially ordered the Ceviche Sampler and their Taquitos Tray.  Then spotted the Spring Special that they were promoting their signature CHURRASCO "Voted Esquire Magazine's Top 20 Steaks in America"a center cut certified Angus beef tenderloin, seasoned with chimichurri & char grilled served with crispy yucca cake, pickled onions & Bearnaise sauce, and topped with lump crab meat. The special included a choice of soup or salad and we went with the house salad.

While waiting for your fresh food to be prepared we were served a nice tray of plantain chips with a garlic and olive oil and sweet red sauce for dipping.

FLIGHT OF ALL FOUR CERVICES INCLUDED:

    AHI TUNA
tuna carpaccio with crunchy jicama, fresh jalapeño, cilantro, honey roasted peanuts, sweet onion crisps, toasted sesame seeds, citrus ponzu & hoisin sauce

    SALMON
fresh salmon belly, smoked salmon, pineapple, jalapeño, toasted sesame, cilantro, red onion, fresh red pepper, fresh key lime, toasted sesame oil

    CRAB & SHRIMP
sweet jumbo lump crab meat (NOT FRESH) & gulf shrimp with fresh lime, garlic, onion, shrimp broth & tossed with peeled grape tomato, avocado, jalapeño, red onion

    MIXTO
Peruvian style ceviche of fresh market catch (talapia) & gulf shrimp, avocado, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro served in a carved pineapple

TAQUITO TRAY OF ALL FOUR TAQUITOS - They were OUT OF THE CRAW FISH this evening so we opted to double up on the BEEF SHORT RIBS.

    BACON WRAPPED QUAIL
boneless bacon wrapped breast of quail, stuffed with grilled mushroom, basil, panela cheese, red pepper & hearts of romaine with Bearnaise

    PLANTAIN CRUSTED SHRIMP
crunchy fried gulf shrimp, cilantro cream slaw, pico de gallo & fresh avocado

    BEEF SHORT RIBS (DOUBLE ORDER)
slow roasted beef short rib, black bean refritos, queso fresco, malted peppered onions, crispy tempura mushrooms

Our most gregarious server Jaime kept the plantains and water coming.

Utilizing the identical grading system that I used for another local steakhouse:

    5  Ambiance
    1  Reception & Greeting
    2  Cleanliness
    2  Table Setting
    4  Service
    3  Quality of Food
    2  Satisfaction & Overall Experience

Americas's average score came to 2.71. Other reviewers placed greater emphasis on their Sunday brunch, entertainment and drinks from the bar. To be honest with you the Angus beef tenderloin was huge disappointment. Crab meat was stale, talapia is junk fish and not having craw fish is a poor excuse for a restaurant of their caliber. Reception and greeting was absolutely cold and ignorantly impolite as one can get it. The window next to us was filled with finger prints and the carpet was nasty to think about. I think Esquire should maybe consider staying out of the steakhouse rating business.

Consistently one of the best meals regardless of whether it's lunch, brunch or dinner. I love the ceviches, brunch offerings and plantain chips with chimichurri. For dinner you can't beat the churrascos! Execution is perfect everytime.

Took the family here for my Wife's mothers day dinner.  Food was excellent as always.   Have to recommend the bread pudding for desert.   We always get the Tres Leches for desert but this time we added the bread pudding and bread pudding was the family's favorite.

One of the things I miss most about living in The Woodlands is America's Sunday brunch buffet. All I can say is that it's awesome. Not many people know about their brunch so you'll get seated quickly and won't have to wait in a line to get your food. It includes the standard breakfast items that you would expect to find like pancakes, potatoes, and sausage. But there's also an omelet station, carving station, ceviche, empanadas, fish, chicken, pork, plantains, salad, and soups - pretty much a sample of their entire menu. It all tastes so good, so try everything. And not to forget the desserts like the tres leches...so freaking good. I could just eat that for brunch and be happy.

We know from HIMYM that two bros can't have brunch. So fellas, find yourself a girl and take her here. You can thank me later.

One more thing, they will validate parking if you park in the garage. I believe up to 4 hrs.

After a long day of travel and Fertummelt meal times, I decided to head out from the hotel in search of some light bites and a glass of wine. It was 8 PM and (Latin) Americas looked interesting, especially considering that this meal time is actually a bit early in Spain. Although the downstairs dining room looks fabulous, I decided to hang out at the bar, and enjoy my glass of wine, while watching a Reds/Yankees game and listening to the "sweet young thangs" chatting behind me.

Up front, my 2 biggest issues with Americas were:

WINE. It's hard to find a good glass of wine for $10 or below. That's one measure Gayle and I go by, since there's no excuse not to, considering the excellent Norteamericano or Sudamericano choices out there.

PARKING. It's a challenge in these parts, although the 25 Waterway Garage has plenty of spots, at the cost of $4 for the first hour. Americas apparently validates (according to the lot attendant), but Staff seems to be keeping that service a secret.

I ordered the Empanadas small plate, which was delicious and just enough food for my jet lagged self. The bartender was also very nice, and did find me a very good Malbec for $11. I enjoyed the soft, dark, and romantic bar vibe, and could easily envision a date night here with Gayle. Unfortunately, the closes thing I got to that was a short "I Arrived Safely" phone call during my meal. The end of this business trip already can't come soon enough.

Very good Sunday Brunch.  A bit pricey, but it's The Woodlands.  What are you going to do?  Great ceviche, very fresh seafood.  The prime rib and lamb could have been better.  Both were dry and a bit tough for my liking.  Very good tres leches.  Had better creme brûlée.

We went to the Sunday brunch it's a little pricey but the choice of food is great. The unlimited cocktails for $12 is a good deal if you enjoy a couple of drinks. I've done the brunch 3 times but this was the most enjoyable. The difference was our waiter Britney she was awesome always looking to add drinks and clear the table. Will go back but will ask for her table. The other waiters there have a strange attitude not sure if they are trying to be funny but comes across as argumentative.

Awesome Sunday buffet but crowded and the chairs are very close together. I can't even squeeze in (and im medium sized) unless theyve recently fixed it. I went maybe late last year?

Tasty food all around though and pretty decor makes me forget about how close I sit to someone.

We recently visited Americas again Dec. 2010, with friends for some after dinner drinks in the bar area. It has a great vibe and gets super crowded.  I think it is the new see and be seen bar for the Woodlands. The music is decent and the drinks are definitely strong. I would probably return for a night on the town with friends, but not to eat.  :-/

Bad- Parking can be a pain in the arse and they now charge for the open lot a block away. Your best bet is to try in park in the deck near the Marriott.

Ugly- Not really ugly just smart!! Designate a driver as there are cops swarming all over the place in front of these bars.

A group of friends and I went to the Woodlands location of Americas for New Year's Eve I wasn't sure if our experience was that night was typical or not. Based on some of the other reviews, I fear it was.

The quality of the food, despite the NYE crowd, was pretty good. The menu was limited to a three or four course fixed price dinner. For each course, the restaurant offered three of its most popular menu items. Most were well done and presented nicely.

Service, on the other hand, was lacking. In fact, it was down right terrible. We were the neglected table the entire night and because of the bad service our dinner lasted 30 minutes longer than it should have. Our first course was paired with a brut but we were all finished with our drinks before we were served. We were almost finished with our main course before the second pairing came. Bad timing. Really bad timing. We saw our server a total of three times. Once to take our order. Once to check on us after our entrees were served and once to drop off the check.

We were a group of five and fortunately seated at a round table for five downstairs. Hard to find.  We were also seated in a corner, away from the noise of the restaurant but still able to feel its energy. It was really one of the better parts of the evening.

NB: Some of the best tres leches around.

Its unfortunate that I am giving Americas a 2 star rating.
Yelp lists a 2 star as "Meh, Ive experienced better". And thats where I stand.

I have been to Americas at least 6 times. Each time the service and food gets progressively worse.
My first experience was fantastic. The food was excellent. The Churrasco, to die for. The service was great.
I took my family there when they were intown a while back. They still talk about it.

Fast forward to my my lastest visit. My experience was nothing short of horrible, along with the worst service you can imagine. I have noticed over time the churrascos have become extremely oily and greasy. The come in a pool of oil. Service was painfully slow. I sat without a refill for my entire meal. Each time I'd ask the waiter, he would forget. JUST TO PAY TOOK 25 minutes.
This is not the service I expect when paying $300.00 for my dinner with my wife and a few friends.

Their food is inconsistent. I have ordered the empanadas about 4 times. Each time different. Sometimes with sauces for each empanda, sometimes the empandas alll come out of one variety, other times cut in half, other times whole. The sauces are great. When I didnt get them, I requested them. The waiter forgot. I reminded him and he finally brought them out. By that time the empandas were cold. We didnt even eat half of them.

0My wife and I both always order the churrasco. They used to give you a plate of rice, sweet plantains, yuca, and pickled onion. One plate for each churrasco. Last time I went with 4 people. They gave us one plate of the sides for all of us. When I asked for more, the waiter didnt seem pleased.

Americas has the ability to be an amazing restaurant. Too bad poor management has caused this place to be taken off my list of restaurants I visit on those special occations.

I must say the Tres Leches is wonderful, but not worth going there just for that.

Not too sure about this place.  The ambiance is very nice, and the service was very good, but the food was not great.

Being a vegetarian, you are kind of limited to items there, but I ordered some seafood plate that made me sick to my stomach.  Portion sizes are small and prices are high.  If  you enjoy the classy meals at a nice place, I am sure you would enjoy this, but just wasn't for me.

The most beautifully appointed restaurant in the Woodlands done full wall water features, stone wall coverings, groovily lit staircases, and just cool mod furniture. The food for the most part is also impressive. As the evening wore on our waiter became more and more forgetful., however.

He attentively scanned the wine list for us, made good recos, which made my guests happy. The empanada appetizer was plenty for three to share. Very tasty and with a variety of sauces, each one had its own flavor personality. That's if we knew which one was which. We hailed the waiter over for a walk-through.

When appetizers came, I ordered the crawfish taquitos, but I was brought pork tacquitos. Switch that out! The dish was one of the most unique ways to enjoy this delicacy. The entire crawfish was exhumed from its exoskeleton and presented on the shaved cabbage. Really good looking, and even better tasting!

My entree salad was very nice -- pampas salad with shrimp. However, one of my guests ordered the grilled vegetable plate and got something that was not even close. When the correction was made, it was SO obvious that someone made the executive decision to take a bowl, dump some rice in the middle and spoon some vegetables that happen to be on the stream table around it. It was just stupid. About ten minutes later, a beautifully presented grilled vegetable plate emerged from the kitchen and was promptly presented to another guest at the table behind us. He seemed to enjoy it.

As the brain cells fell out of the waiters ear over the next few minutes, I gave my credit card to the server. He took it and returned with the bill, a pen, and my card. No credit card statement to sign. Oh BROTHER! I was done.

So, I would give Americas a two, but how can I fault the decor and the food which was good. The waiter was really having an off night, and maybe I will be able to muster up more enthusiasm if I return.

Americas Restaurant in The Woodlands possesses an arousing environment and flavorful menu. The first time I went there was with a group, for my birthday. We sat outside and were helped immediately. They bring out some plantain (banana) chips with these two dipping sauces. One is green and has more of a garlic/olive oil taste, and the other is red and spicy. The food was delicious, we all shared bites, between the salmon, roasted Chilean sea bass, and the Tallarines.

The second time I went with my fiancée, and we shared the salmon and the Espada (grilled swordfish); both were delicious. I have to recommend their ceviche, which we had both times, and both times it was outstanding. It may not be as lemony as you are used to, but I think that is by design. The service was quick and the waiter/waitress helpful. They offer their recommendations and will even mix and match to come up with an entrée that is to your liking.

Americas Restaurant is one of the few places you can go as a group and have fun, and with a date and have privacy. They seem to know where to seat you so that the vibe/mood is right.

The Setting: Dinner with the family. Mom was tired of cooking. We wanted to try something new and so Americas it is.

The Decor: Is amazing. I would expect something like this in New York not in suburban Woodlands. Trendy on the first floor. To eat, you go downstairs with stone walls and waterfall walls. There is floor to ceiling windows on one side over looking the waterway.

The Food: Average at best. They serve you up some plantain chips with two different types of sauce which is pretty yummy. I usually hate plantain chips. We ordered two appetizers. The calamari and the chicken something. The chicken was delish. The calamari was... well, calamari. Not amazing, not horrible. For dinner, I had the ahi tuna which was so disappointing. The crust was boring, there was no marinade to speak of. The pickled pinapple was an interesting touch but too little to be of any comment. My sister had the steak which was tasty but slender. The fried seafood was fried seafood. Tempura but fancied up. Pass on that. Other than the pork chops and the steak, everything else was bland and at very best just average.

The service: Very attentive. Very nice older gentleman took care of us very well. Nothing to complain about.

Overall, an ok place for a date or a place to take the family. But watch out for the menu which is a hit or miss.

It was date night and I thought I would stay close to her area so we opted for Americas.  It was my first visit to this location, having been to the Post Oak location a few times.  The interior is really very nice.  The bar upstairs was very cool, walking downstairs the dining area was very chic.

After ordering a bottle of wine, we started off with the soft shell crawfish taquitos...all in all not bad, but didn't really have the punch that I was expecting.  All I could taste was hoisin sauce, so I felt like I was eating at my local pho house.  However the main course was great.  I had the beef steak and she had swordfish with shrimp.  The Cordua group does steak well in all their restaurants, what else can be said except it was perfectly cooks and it melted in my mouth.  My date loved her swordfish and the jumbo shrimp on top were truly jumbo.  Good quality, good atmosphere.

While visiting the BF's parents we needed to get out for our own "adult time" and stumbled upon the Woodlands version of Americas.  I've been to the Post Oak location before, so we wandered in.

We had a decent bottle of pinot noir...not my favorite.  I love the plantain chips as a munchy though!  I had the sea scallops on risotto which was cooked absolutely perfectly....tender, not tough - so good!  The BF had pork relleno which was also cooked perfectly.

The atmosphere is very non-suburban and pretty cool for the area.  I also love leaving dinner with a bottle of wine with only a tab (with tip!) for $100.

My fiance and I have been looking for a good Sunday brunch place up in north Houston (correction - we've been looking for ANY Sunday brunch place up in north Houston) and discovered the Americas buffet a few weeks ago. It's just what we were hoping to find. The bagels taste packaged but we loved the rest of the options. Mmm, pancakes with Canela whipped cream and berries...

There are standard breakfast buffet choices and then on top of that they have plantains, ceviche, chimichurri, roasted vegetables, etc. If the weather's good it's nice to sit on the patio overlooking the waterway, sipping a mimosa or a bloody mary and munching on ceviche. The price is pretty reasonable, too, with inexpensive beverage refills (their alternative to the 'bottomless mimosa').

Take warning. The management at this location is severely lacking.  We booked a reservation for 9pm over four days in advance. When we got there at 8:30, we were not told of any delays. At 9 when I checked for status I was told there were still 20 parties ahead of us and they'd just begun seating of the 8:15 reservations. What's the point of making a reservation?!

Needless to say, we'll never go back.

I went here today with two of my best buds. This place is convenient to the Woodlands Mall and is near the water way. The decor is fantastic and there are two levels. The top level is the bar and there are a lot of places up there where you can rest and chat with your friends. This would be perfect for the night life. I think there are beds there. Not sure but that's what it looks like.

Walking downstairs to the restaurants was so great because everything was so gorgeous. We were seated next to the water and tables and chairs were quite interesting. Very very fancy.

I ordered the executive luncheon which I don't see that on the menu for the Post Oak location. It was a three course meal for $16. In each course, you can pick what you want to eat. You get an option from the two.
-For the first course, I got sopa cubana and it was so wonderful. If I wasn't in front of people, I would of slurped it all down. Seriously, try this rather than the salad. BTW... sopa cubana is black bean soup with crema fresca. Delish.
-For the second course, I got some type of beef dish but I totally forgot the name right now. It was great though I thought the beef was a bit chewy. Other than that it was wonderful. My friend got the chicken and he thought that was wonderful as well. The food was prepared like it was on Top Chef or something.
-Lastly, the third course was tres leches. I adore tres leches and this was great. I couldn't finish the second course so I had it to-go but I had to finish the tres leches. I made room in my stomach for this. I had to. It was my birthday after all.

Service was wonderful though we came here at 2pm. So, there wasn't that many people around but if it was crowded here, I think the service would be great as well. It is a bit expensive but this is perfect for an intimate setting. You can also sit outside but being as it was 95 degrees, it was too hot to be out there though there is shade. I would sit out here if it was nighttime.

For three people, our total was $53. This included 2 executive luncheons, some type of chicken dish, and a mojito. My friend got the mojito while the rest had water. We were really dehydrated.

I've only been to the bar area but will definitely go try the restaurant some time soon. I think it's one of the best bars in The Woodlands hands down. It's got a midtown feel to it, so if I don't want to drive my self to Houston I can always come here. The dj is totally cool too, he takes requests and always plays my favorite song when I walk in. Drinks are a tad expensive but pretty much like everywhere else. Only down side is that it's full of old men that think they are 20 something, but that's The Woodlands for you.

Awful. For a business that invokes Peruvian themes, it is anything but...
    - Cancha isn't available (for those of you that don't know what this is, well, it's the best bar snack in the world!)
    - The ceviche is awful
    - Drinks like pisco sour aren't close to authentic
    - The bar staff seems more interested in talking to each other than guests
    - Thinking about speaking to the manager? Think again.  Good luck trying.

Oh, and the locals tell me they got slammed by the county health inspector.

I'd avoid this place like the plague.

The waiter was amazing and attentive, the service was great, the food just as amazing and overall we had an amazing time there.....we are definatley going back!

Great deal for lunch- 3 course meal for less than $20!  Great wine selection.  Great outdoor seating.  One of the few restaurants with outdoor seating right by The Waterway.

A new update, and an upgrade. I really enjoyed my dining experience here on Sunday. We went for a Sunday brunch and were surprised when Americas had changed to a Sunday brunch buffet.
The interior is sleek and modern and overlooks the woodland river walk. The interior is very handsome.  Our waiter Hector was attentive, helpful and fun to talk to.
The food quality was excellent for a buffet. Breakfast items included waffles, pancakes, bacon, sausage, omelet station and build your own bagel with smoked salmon available.
The appetizer / salad section included my favorite...ceviche, which was delicious, fried plantains and chimichurri sauce, Caesar salad, spinach salad with all the accompaniments.
The Lunch area had items like grilled salmon, tenderloin, tilapia, chicken and other items.
It was well worth the price of $20 per person price tag. Also with the brunch they offer $4.00 mimosas, sangria, or bloody mary's with $2 refills. All three were outstanding. This is in my book is a definite need to try buffet.
