My kids and I travel around Chicago and do hot dog joints.  Hey, they are growing up in Chicago, they should know a good dog when they have one, and the only way one will know a good dog from a bad dog it to try them.

I have always liked the variety of dogs at America's Dog, and I like the story of the two brothers from 1993, I have no idea if it si true or not.

We were at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show Sunday and stopped in for some dogs and a veggie burger for my wife.  My son had the kids menu corn dogs and fries, they looked over fried and unappetizing to me, my son ate em up, but liked the fries better than the corn dogs.

My daughter and I had dogs.  She a kids meal dog, which means plain.  She added cheese.  She thought the dog was good enough, BUT she felt the bun was not great.  I would have to agree.  I had a Chicago Dog, wanted to see how it stacked up.  It was fine, but it wasn't nearly as good as other dog hotspots in Chicago, like Jeff's Red Hots on Cicero for example.  I feel if you are gonna be on Navy Pier and going to be serving Chicago Dogs to our visitors, you need to hit a home run with it.  They do not manage to do that with the Chicago Dog here.

The only reason they get three stars from me instead of two, was that my wife, a somewhat picky seafood / veggie eater, LOVED the veggie burger, and I must admit that it looked great, better than my Chicago Dog.  And I love dogs, so that is saying some thing about both the veggie burger AND the Chicago Dog.

The service was slow, the line was long, and they could have used a bit more help to move the line along.  The combo meals only come with small drinks filled with ice, and that annoyed me.  I don't want a cup of ice with a drip of root beer, I want a drink, and what came with the meal felt like a rip off to help them with their bottom line at my expense.  Just give me a drink or don't include any drink with my meal at all.

So, if you are on Navy Pier, yeah, I guess you could go here, better than McDonalds.  But if you are serious about your dogs here in Chicago, you have so many better options than this.  Seek them out.  It is worth the effort.

Your in Chicago and you have never done two things....gone to Navy Pier and had a Chicago style hot dog.    Thank goodness we have America's Dog to cure both of those problems in one place.

While spending the weekend in Chicago a few months ago, one of my friends found himself in this position.   We just could not let this happen and go any longer, so to Navy Pier I took him.

The America's Dog Chicago Dog comes just as a hot dog should.  He could not believe we don't put ketchup on them though and how much stuff we pile on.    Despite him being from out of state, he was able to hold the hot dog, eat and walk like a champ.

Now onto the hot dog itself, it was a true beef dog, the pickle was crisp and crunchy, sport peppers had just enough eat, and it all came in a nice little carrying carton.

Even with it being the middle of a Sunday afternoon on a early summer day and the Pier being packed with tourists, we were able to get our food quickly.

I am just glad to know there are multiple locations in Chicago where I can get my hot dog fix.

The wait was too long...20 min for a burger. Poor customer service! Ended up asking for a refund went to Gyro place next to it.

$10 for a hot dog, large fries, and large drink...that's what I'd call a stretch, if the hot dog was amazing and the fries mouth watering. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The hot dog reminded me of oscar winer, and the fries were so greasy they were kinda gross. Add the $10 price tag, and you get a meal that is something I will definitely not partake of again. Boo...

    Restaurant review
No ketchup... 1 chicago dog coming right up! Although America's Dog is a chain restaurant I had to give it the benefit of the doubt when checking out the plethra of hotdog available. When I went, I used a groupon for BOGO. The prices are reasonable, but the hot dogs are not big at all. You need two to hold down your stomach for the afternoon. The buffalo dog with bleu cheese was a delight and the San Fransico Dog is loaded with everything from chili to cheese. To complement your meal, they have fries to purchase separately and if hot dogs are not your thing burgers and chicken sandwiches are on the menu as well but I can honestly say I did not try them.

Pro: if you like hot dogs with a variety of toppings, this is the place to go. cheap compared to other food places around navy pier

Cons: small hot dog leaving you wanting more, fries are extra

I just left this establishment. The service is poor and so is the food. The cashier Raquel had a bad attitude, they messed up my entire order and did not want to fix it. I will never come back again, I suggest you avoid it!

The GF and I went biking and stopped at Navy Pier for some Chicago Dogs.  It was on a Monday nite, hardly any tourists there at all.  There were no lines.  There were 4 employees milling around doing nothing.  We ordered 3 cdogs and waited and waited and waited.  It's not like they weren't doing anything, they were putting the dogs together, just really really slow.  I felt like the people were stuck in a lava-lamp and the gel is causing them to move real slow...  Holy Geez Mother of all Dogs!

The dogs were mediocre at best as I've indicated before.  Couple that with the terrible terrible service at this location, I'm never coming back here again!  Stay away everyone!!!

I've read some good reviews on this place and decided that my first trip to Chicago should be met with a Chicago hot dog.

The quality (taste) of these hot dogs are not worth a second trip.  My husband and I ordered a Chicago dog and a Dallas dog.  The dogs were burnt from the grill and the chili was bland.  I've tasted better hot dogs from Costco Wholesale that are just plain for $1.50, including a medium drink!

The service was also not so pleasant.  For having 8+ staff working, it was so disorganized.  Not tending to the grill.  Not tending to the register.  Some people got their drinks when they paid, we didn't get ours til we got our food.  People who ordered their food way after us, got theirs first.  It was just chaotic- period.

A couple months ago, I flew into O'Hare for my first trip to Chicago.  I checked into my hotel in Itasca, took the 40-minute train ride into downtown and had exactly 2 1/2 hours to spend exploring the city before I needed to be back at my hotel for a conference.  You can bet your booty that I squeezed as much sight-seeing and tasting into that 2 1/2 hours as I possibly could.

My main goal for when I go to new cities is to try food that they're known for.  I stumbled upon America's Dog while speed walking around Navy Pier and knew that I had to try their Chicago Dog.  Ooooh yes.   I got it to go, picked up a free cone from Ben & Jerry's (I had Phish Food, a great hot dog, and a sunny afternoon in Chicago...life could not get better that day), and high tailed it back to Union Station to catch a train back to the hotel.

While I did not make many friends due to the extreme pickle, onion, mustard, and pepper aromas emanating from my hot dog, it was delicious and everything that I expected a Chicago Dog to be.  I definitely recommend America's Dog.  And for the vegetarians out there, they offer veggie dogs!

So this place had a great variety of different dogs. I figured since I was in Chicago I might as well have a Chicago dog. Well all that relish and short peppers is really not my thing, I bet if I grew up on it I would feel better about it, but I really was not feeling this hot dog. The hot dog itself was ok, and the bun was soft and fresh, which is a huge plus. I'm sure if I tried a different dog that is more of my taste it would have been good. Looks like I'll have to come visit again!

You are contractually obligated to have a Chicago Dog while in Chicago and we ran into this place at the Navy Pier. There was a  group of us so we decided to try a bunch of different "dogs" in addition to the Chicago Style. Though to be honest, even if there were only two of us Food Monsters we probably would have still tried a plethora of different "dogs".  All  of these were "jumbo". (Jumbo is kind of a funny word...)
Chicago Dog: (mustard, relish, onion, sport peppers, tomato, pickle & celery salt.), Baltimore Dog: (deep fried dog, with melted cheddar & grilled onions.), San Francisco Dog: (Chili, mustard, ketchup, relish, onion, pickle, tomato, shredded cheddar cheese & celery salt.), Maxwell St. Polish: (Grilled onions, mustard & sport peppers.), Tucson Dog
(Chorizo, jalapenos, cheese sauce, and tortilla strips.)

Typically, I don't put mustard on my hot dogs but I decided to have order the Chicago Dog as it was intended. ^__^ I really enjoyed it. I loved all the different flavors and textures together. I really didn't think the Baltimore's "deep fried dog" made a huge difference. It wasn't battered or anything so it wasn't obvious or distinct to me. The cheese and onion flavor kind of ran together. Nothing about this wow'd me personally but hey you might love it! San Fran dog was a damn party in a bun. Impossible to contain. It was really like trying to corral chaos into the direction of your face and hoping some of it made it into your mouth. So much stuff is on this dog. I highly recommend it for those who can dislocate their jaw in order to consume food. I settled for the fork chop and shovel method. It's kind of like a Chicago dog with shredded cheese, chili and ketchup. I  didn't care for the addition of ketchup. If I ever got it again I would try it without ketchup and mustard. The Maxwell St Polish wasn't really exciting to me either. Kind of dry and a little boring. Tucson was pretty interesting. I enjoy the little kick it provided mingled with the crunch of the tortilla strips.  In addition to the WAY TOO MANY hot dogs that we got we also ordered the Spicy Peanut Chicken Salad, Chili Cheese Fries and a Fried Twinkie. Salad and cheese fries were as expected. Good, not mind blowing. Fried Twinkie? Awesome!!!

Though the service was a bit slow, the prices were reasonable. Dear Size Queens, If you think you might not be satisfied with the size of the dog why not save yourself the trouble and go for JUMBO?  Omnomnom. ^__^ (I'll be uploading photos of all these as well)
