Yet another win for GROUPON!  I bought that America's Dog Groupon (2 dogs for $2).  Wow.  What a deal!

I ordered the Baltimore Dog (deep fried goodness with melted cheddar cheese on top).  It was pretty darn good.  Not as amazing as I expected, but it hit the spot.  The winner was the Tucson Dog--  topped with melted cheese, jalapenos, chorizo and tortilla strips.  Delicious.  It was a little fiesta in my mouth.

I'll certainly be back because I still have a couple Groupons left to use.  I don't know if I'd be back as often with the price tag of $3 for each of these dogs.  A Portillos Chi Dog  wins my heart.

This place is the ideal place to bring somebody for a Hot Dog Date!  You know that you want to bring the chick you met out of town to a Chicago Hot Dog place.  This place is it!  Immaculately clean and both booths and tables to sit at.  How many great dog places do you know that are both clean and comfortable.  Agreed that 95% of the time you don't care about those things when downing a dog but for the other 5% this place is ideal.

Brought the wife and twin 2 year olds here and I have to say this will be an ongoing thing.  Was actually greeted by the manager and he was VERY friendly when we explained that we had never been there before.  He helped us with a few suggestions like the sweet potato fries and the wife loved them!  I had the Green Bay dog and the cheese was really good.  The wife had the Baltimore dog and she said that it was one of the best she's ever had!

The reason it's the perfect date place is because Swirlz Cupcakes is right across the street!

My recent experience at the Lincoln Park America's Dog was a good news, bad news kind of thing.

The bad news first (as that's the kind of guy I am): I think I may have accidentally ordered (or they may have accidentally given me) a regular hot dog instead of a veggie dog.  I have no biological proof of this - either from my stomach or from the dog.  But all I know is I ordered two dogs - a Chicago style and an Atlanta style (that has nothing to do with the Olympics news, it was mere coincidence).  And these two dogs were vastly different in presentation (the Atlanta style was cut in half) and taste.

The good news: if I did accidentally eat a meat dog, it didn't make me *that* ill.  Which might be bad news for my carnivorous friends as it means there's not much meat in the dog.  Or it might be good news as there's possibly not much meat in the dog.

Due to not knowing what the guts of the Atlanta dog were made of (because guts are a primary ingredient of meat dogs - bad news), I'm only rating on the Chicago dog.  It was pretty lacklustre.  For almost $4.00 (veggie dogs are 79 cents extra - bad news) a notfurter, I expected the dog to have more taste and more substance.  The doggie was incredibly thin and overwhelmed by the toppings (including far too many sports peppers - bad news).  Which, oddly, I didn't taste either (you get the point news).

I do give this place credit for having such a diverse lineup of encased meats (good news).  I didn't even know so many cities had their own styles of hot dogs (just news), I thought it was just us (I no longer feel as special living in Chicago - bad news).  And they have a side menu (including a veggie burger) to boot.  But their namesake product left me flat this time.  I had their veggie dog at Lollapalooza and it was good (news) so maybe I just caught this location on an off night.

I'll give it the third star just because I'm being nice (good news) and because the curly fries are incredible.  But if they present me with more bad news next time, I may have to reconsider.

Another nice little hot dog joint in Lincoln Park, this one at Lincoln between Halsted/Fullerton and Larrabee/Dickens. The gimmick here is that they have hot dogs in the styles of many major American cities: New York, Cincinnati, Houston, etc. And of course Chicago. The Chicago Style is truly authentic. Also, good wraps and chili, and very nice curly fries. And they play a great selection of music, too; frequently Satellite Radio Classic Rock.  Perfect dog-snarfing music!

I was in the hot dog kind of mood today...this happens every once in awhile (did you see my t-shirt folks?) and was happy to be driving in the neighborhood and come upon America's Dog.

Being on the corner of busy Lincoln Ave. near a host of bars and DePaul central, this place is in a prime location. Lots of windows, some fun decor (great road trip pictures make you feel like you are in fact get a taste of some hot dogs from all over the country) and friendly staff made this a nice place to stop for an afternoon bite.

First off there are a bunch of delicious dog options, so many in fact I had a wee bit of trouble choosing...luckily the words "deep fried" jumped out at me though from the Baltimore dog description. Ooh yes it was every bit as good as its description too - a poppyseed bun (could have been toasted to add a nice contrast in flavors), deep fried dog, melted cheese and sauteed onions. Ooh that is EXACTLY what I was looking for today. My brother ordered the Santa Fe dog and though it was tasty (with bits of jalepenos imbedded in the dog) it needed something more. We were both very happy with the sweet potato fries though which were sweet and salty (you'd never guess how hard it is to find good sweet potato fries).

Hot Dog happy? Oh yes. I'll be back and can't wait to try more of the deliciously creative options.

since being pregnant i have been craving a hot dog, everytime i go to home depot i seriously get the urge to buy one on the way out (ok i would not do that to my unborn child...)

on the way home from work the other night i stopped here and got an organic chicago (NITRATE/ preservative free) DOG!  granted, it was still a hot dog and probably will not be something i eat often but it cured my craving and was delicious..

My Friend's Bachelor Party Review #4

Another one to add to the list of questionable food reviews because I was intoxicated. However, I've had this sober as well, and stand by my high mark.

This place is an excellent, excellent concept fast food place. A hot dog style from every place in the country that is actually unique and regularly tasty. I typically go with the buffalo dog, which essentially combines a hot dog with the taste of a chicken wing, I love it but can see where others don't jive with it.

More importantly, the curly fries are undeniably awesome. When you are digging to get the last little fry at the bottom, you know they've done it right.

I'm kind of a hot dog wimp. I don't like a ton of toppings and I really like ketchup... So you can probably imagine the looks I get at hot dog joints in Chicago. They're usually looks of pity, disgust, shame, or some combination of all those.

With that said, I like that they offer a bigger variety of hot dogs than just "Chicago-style." I often go for the Green Bay dog (slathered in melty cheddar goodness) or the Baltimore dog (melty cheddar AND grilled onions). YUM!!
Like most others, I'm also a fan of the curly fries. Always delish and you can get those covered in cheese too, so what's not to love about that???

They do deliver, but once I called for a delivery order and they only had 2 people working and couldn't deliver at that time!!! My craving was unsatisfied! Delivery fail.

Do good fries make up for an edible, but not very good hot dog?  That is my question to ask of everyone who has reviewed this place, I mean I feel like if you are a hot dog place then you should be able to make a great hot dog, good falls way short.  It is a cool idea that they have all the different types of hot dogs up so you can see what each places local style is, but still if you can not make them up very well then that means very little.

Their fries save them from a two star rating for me...

Sure, there's better places for hot dogs, but this place gets an A+ for spelling out all the different city specialties.  I ordered the buffalo dog that had hot sauce, blue cheese and celery salt on it.  It was good, but not OMG good.

I do have to say that my friend's chopped salad looked really good, and the french fries and onion rings were off the chart.

It's veggie friendly, offering veggie dogs, along with a few (slim pickings) veggie options.

I'll go back, but only cause it's in the 'hood.

I went here for a late night snack last night. I ended up getting the roadhouse burger with fries (~$8). It was pretty good for a fast food type place. The guy yelling out the orders was a prick though. He was screaming numbers and yelling at people for taking too long to pick up their food. His face was red and sweaty and it looked like he was going to blow a gasket.

Recommended for a quick late night bite.

Pretty good food.
The curly fries kick ass, to put it simply. Seasoning, texture, everything.
The hot dogs, however, are not all they're cracked up to be. And they're unreasonably expensive compared to the other options in the city of Chicago.
If I were to return, I'd only order the curly fries and save the hot dogs for Portillo's.

Stopped in today on the recommendation of a friend and really enjoyed myself. The staff was really friendly and made conversation while I took 10 minutes to decide on my order.

The reason I felt compelled to run home and yelp about my experience comes down to one thing... the curly fries. Everything about the curly fries was a religious experience for me. Haha! As I was devouring them I found myself thankful that this place isn't right around the corner from my apartment because I'd be in big trouble.

I also ordered the Veggie Dog, Chicago style. It was tasty but, for now, I have to say that the Veggie Dog at Underdogg still takes the prize for me... so, for now, I've left it at a 4-star review. That being said, I'll definitely be back. And, you never know, I might decide to bump it up to 5 stars depending on how things go.

This place has decent hot dogs. You can get Chicago style, Baltimore style, NY style, Houston style, etc etc. But they are more than just a hot dog joint, they have salads and burgers, including veggie burgers!

I like the buffalo popcorn chicken and seasoned curly fries personally.

They keep the place pretty clean and the staff is friendly.

Good luck finding parking, be careful of the permit parking too..

Agreeing with Sasha R!
going back to school tomorrow makes me start taking inventory of all my between class lunch spots. this is one of them... Now that I am going back to the cult of vegetarianism (well actually pescatarianism) I am happy that they serve veggie burgers and hot dogs. With enough onions and sport peppers they taste just as Good as the real thing!! their diet killing fries are good too! Non- veggies Go for the wraps they are awesome.

Milwaukee (char-grilled brat with sauerkraut and that brown mustard that's hard to find in california) dog rocks, and the chicago dog is also very solid.    They serve the dogs in these stupid styrofoam containers though, and didn't seem to think anything of it.  What's wrong with paper or alum foil or something...  It lacks grit.  I grew up in Lincoln Park and this is one of these shined up spots that doesn't have much character - need a better place in the neighborhood.  Heavily favored by the bar crowd late at night - open till 3 am thurs-sat...

America's Dog is pretty good, but not quite  completely good.  I've been here a few times and I'm always astounded how long it takes them.  Today I was the only customer in the whole restaurant and it took them a full five minutes to make a Dallas Dog (chili dog with shredded cheese and onions).  I could understand if they were busy, but they weren't and they seemed to have pre-chopped onions and already-shredded cheese.

The food itself is good.  The regular soft drinks are what most places would size as a small.  I wasn't crazy about the curly fries.  For an extra couple of cents you can get an all natural hot dog, which is a really great option.  I'm always surprised how much it costs--over $6 for the drink, fries and a dog.

Surprisngly they have a really great soundtrack.  They made me realize my dream of an eating establisment playing Queens of the Stone Age's "No One Knows" and Spin Doctors' "Two Princes" back to back, and then fulfilled it.  It was awesome.

Hot dog!

So happy to have found out that this corner dog dig serves Morningstar veggie dogs, all charred up for my eating pleasure.  Not only that, but (drumroll please) ... they deliver!

So wait ... you mean any time I want a couple tasty veggie dog delights but am too damn lazy to walk there ... someone will bring them?  To ME?!?!?!

Oh happy day.

I like hot dogs.  I like a LOT of stuff on my hot dogs.  I love chicago style, ny style, and any other style you can throw at me....besides plain style  I really like hot dogs and I like to try a bunch of different kinds.  This place is perfect for that.  However, I wish that they had smaller hot dogs so I could get more different kinds.  I'm always busting at the seams after 2....but I always want to try one more.

Get smaller hot dogs....and ill give you another star.

So, as a non-native Chicagoan, I am not sure I am truly qualified to opine on this city's hot dogs.  But with family in town, they really wanted to have one.  So after much searching, I chose this place because it was closest to where I live.

As a hot dog neophyte, I found the dogs at America's Dog to be pretty tasty.  The dog itself had nice flavor and was the perfect size for the poppy seed bun - not too much dog, not too little.  I had the Chicago Dog, which came with pickles, peppers, onions, relish, and mustard.  The dog was boiled I suppose and the bun was steamed - so they kind of melted into each other.  It went down fast.  Others tasted the Green Bay Dog, which came with melted cheese - and they said it was pretty tasty as well.

Also, as the other reviewers have said, those curly fries are really good.  Crispy, not greasy, and perfectly salty.  It would be easy to eat like three or four containers of them if your not careful.

The shop itself was clean and nicely decorated.  The counter staff was very pleasant.

I will definitely go back for dogs and fries.

Gosh I love this greasy spoon (when I'm in the mood and able to stay alone, inside for the rest of the day--let's say it doesn't always agree with my sensitive stomach).  The curly fries, BRING THEM ON!  Then, if you want to try something other than the tasty Chicago-style hot dog, they bring variety with chili and more to toss on top.  Good meal deal too where I can have something other than pop, like fruit punch!  Also, I must make a comment about the great US painted map on the wall with post cards from the different cities. I love this touch and can compare the places I've been with the post cards.

Note: I don't recommend making orders online because they often get them after you have already arrived (they need to make an effort to check their emails more often--or it should be on a system instead of sending a random email not knowing all your size/condiment options).

This review is three stars pending another visit....

I ordered the Chicago dog - I like to have a benchmark - but I may have erred in losing my mind at the last minute & getting the 'all natural' dog. After all, is it the job of a hot dog to be all natural? I mean, what's really all natural about the idea of a hot dog? In any case, it was a little burny and kind of dry, probably because it was all natural and there was less delicious fatty whatnot to keep it plump & happy.

Other than that, I enjoyed it and look forward to making my way around America via hot dog. Friendly service, etc. I'll update when I've gone back and got a 'real' dog. Or would that be a fake dog? Anyway ...

Mmm...do you know that feeling you get when you've enjoyed exactly what you wanted, when you wanted it.

Yesterday I had a craving for curly fries, I don't know where it came from, but I suspect TV. Anyway, I consulted the wise people at Yelp and a review for this America's Dog popped up. People commented about the prices but I was craving some damn curly fries so I headed on over.

I was not disappointed. The prices even seemed reasonable to me when you take into consideration where it's located and that you get free refills. The service was great and everyone was really friendly, I had the NY dog and it was excellent. I'm looking forward to trying a lot more of their dogs in the near future.

We've been here a couple of times and as far as a hot dog places go I like it. It's a little bit out of the way (I guess we could take a cab or bus, but we tend to walk). I like having the wide variety of topping choices for my hot dogs. I've tried the new york and there was another one that was good, but escapes my mind at the moment. I also like the curly fries and the fact that they are open late (I never seem to eat dinner during normal "dinner" hours). The service is good, it doesn't take too long to get my food and although there tend to be people there, it's never been overly crowded.

i love this place.  good variety of dogs from across the country.  aside from my favorite, the chicago dog, the polish sausage is great.  my roommates are huge fans of the louisiana as well.  the secret weapon of this place are the sweet potato fries.   open til 3am on weekends is a huge plus!

this place is usually pretty packed late after the bars, if you can deal with a little nonsense, you can usually get a seat but the service can be a touch on the slow side.  no real complaints other than somewhat slow service when its busy.

it misses 5 stars because it's simply just not completely spectacular....it's just really, really, really good.

I'm taking a star off for the price. It's a hot dog, with a sling of some toppings and a cushion of bun, nothing fancy. However, it was really good. Considering all other factors (area, chain restaurant) if they dropped it down to $5 a meal, I'd be happy. Let's not forget that the best dog goes to Ikea (The Big Blue Beast). You just can't beat a $.50 hot dog! But you can beat driving 16 miles to go get it!

American Dog's "Baltimore" was good despite the cheese sauce tasting like it came right from the nacho cheese dispencer. The grilled oninons were sweet and finger licking.

The "Kansas" kraut and mustard was soo good. I drool thinking about it.

If you ever order "the meal" (you choice of dog, drink and fries) DON'T order the corn dog "Des Moines." A corn dog is good, but not for the price I paid with the meal. Choose a another one of their 15 or so dog varieties.

It's a great place to get a quick bite, non-filling and an expected price range for the area and the name brand "American Dog" chain. I could see this dog joint really popping when the bars crowds down the street get hungry.

Best thing about this place, hands down:  The cheese on the fries.  It's very real--no cheez whiz here.  And the fries are good, as it is, so it's a very solid dish, the cheese fries.

I didn't have any of the specialty dogs, but I find it incredibly hard to ruin a plain hot dog, and this one wasn't even close to ruined.  (You also can't beat 50 dogs on opening day!)  I'd absolutely return here for a cheap lunch on an "out and about" day.

Nothing distinguishes this hot dog place from all other hot dog places in Chicago...  It turns out that no matter how much stuff you put on TOP of a hot dog, it's still tends to taste like a hot dog.  Even if you charge an extra $2 compared to everyone else, it's still a hot dog.

2 stars for excellent service every time I go in there.  Also, the sandwiches are not half-bad.  Stick to those.

New location of a small hot dog chain with lots of different options for toppings (ex: Chicago Dog, Houston Dog (topping: chili), Atlanta Dog (coleslaw, chili, mustard, ketchup and onion) etc).  The hot dogs are tasty and quite long.

But the best, a delightful surprise:  the curly fries.  Oh, curly fries, I love you.  And the cheese topping for the fries was different than the usual fake cheesy topping - it tasted real.

Really enjoyed my dog.  And just FYI, if you're a Lincoln Park bar scene regular, the place is open until 3am on Friday and Saturday.

The hot dogs at this place are amazing. You go in and pick a city of your choice and that city has a specific hot dog for it. For example, the Baltimore hot dog is fried and covered with grilled onions and cheese, while the Green Bay hot dog has cheddar cheese all over it. The Buffalo dog is covered in buffalo sauce, blue cheese, and celery salt. A Chicago dog is obviously a Vienna Beef with everything on it. There are about a dozen or more cities to choose from. They make for some very tasty combinations. The value meal is: a city dog, a carton of curly fries and a small (16 ounce) fountain drink. This sells for $5.50, but you can upgrade your meal's hot dog to a jumbo for a total price of $5.83. Other than hot dogs, they also have burgers, Polish/Italian sausage, and beef sandwiches.

The interior is very generic which I don't mind because you can look out the windows on to a busy Lincoln Avenue intersection. The booth seats were comfortable. The people working there were very friendly.

They are open till midnight, except on Friday and Saturday when they stay open till 3am. Parking is on the street or in the Children's Hospital's parking garage, which makes it a hassle to visit unless you live in the area. They have a couple other locations in Chicago though.

One last piece of advice is to not go in there expecting a washroom because they don't have one.

I'm an avid vegetarian, but this place really got on my good side. Not only do they have veggie burgers (becoming very common even in fast food chains) but they also have veggie hotdogs (not common). It's a great little place to come after the bars or even to get a quick bite between classes, with out feeling dirty or greasy when you leave.

Summary: Good food, but a little bit pricey.

I'm rating America's dog not on their hot dogs, but on their burgers and chicken sandwiches.

I ordered their "Big Delish" 1/2lb burger with cheese, a southwest chicken sandwich, and small curly fries for 14.80. I clocked exactly ten minutes from the moment I got my receipt to the moment I received my food. Their grill is behind the register so you can see them prepare your food.

The curly fries were seasoned well and tasted great.

The cheeseburger was tasty, but a little bit on the small side for the price compared to places like Muskie's or Chubby Wiener. But the bun was soft and made a great compliment to the patty.

The chicken sandwich tasted great as well, and my feelings regarding the size also apply here.

I wouldn't mind being back here again.

their hours are 10-10 on Sundays-Wednesdays and 10-3AM Tursdays-Saturdays.

I think refills are free. Deliveries are free.
