6 reviews for America's Best Value Inn
This is a 60s motel upgraded to 80s style (including multicolored polyester bedspreads) with excellent upkeep and comfortable beds, beyond what could be expected of a 2-star motel (which it is). It is a perfectly fine place to crash and is ideally located within walking distance of restaurants and bars. Wi-Fi is free and has good throughput. Their rates are a little less outrageous than other places in the area (although $250 for a MOTEL room is hard to swallow).
Deluxe rooms have both refrigerators and microwaves.
My favorite things...
1) Hot tub overlooking the lake!!
2) very comfy beds
3) great, friendly staff
4) very clean room
5) all rooms are non-smoking
6) CHEAP! (we payed $95/night for a weekend in early March on http://Hotels.com)
When one thinks of staying at a place called "America's Best Value Inn", one is not expecting a top quality hotel. This is definitely a Motel beginning with an "M". In order to be the otel that starts with the "H", a few features would need to be changed. For one, the decor. This place appears to have been designed by a soccer mom in 1983. The cottage cheese ceilings really added to the ambiance!
But, if you want a cheap place to stay in a great location, and you don't mind the "M" features, this is it. One tip, the radiator is behind the curtain. Our first night, we didn't use the heat because we didn't know we had our own radiator.
Not knowing much about Tahoe hotels, i chose this location based on some pretty fair Tripadvisor reviews and the bargain price. We arrived on a Friday evening fairly late and were greeted by a very friendly and helpful woman. I give this place 3 stars for what category it is in, a 2-star hotel. My experience at this 2 star hotel was average and met expectation.
Our room was what we expected from a motel. The beds were OK and the room was clean. The bathroom was pretty small and in dire need of an upgraded shower.
For a great location right in the middle of Tahoe City and across from the lake, this is a good choice.
This is not a 5-star hotel on the same level of the Ritz or the Fairmont, but come on, we're in Tahoe City! It's a nice little motel!
We stayed here mainly because they offer a military discount (boyfriend is a Coastie) and I was pleasantly surprised.
Very centrally located. Mattress was great in our "deluxe" room. Room had a fridge and a microwave which I always like. Some rooms have little balconies in the back overlooking a beautiful snow-covered field There's a year-round heated hot tub which I did not check out but I know it's there because I bumped into a middle-aged man in a little swimsuit to prove it. Employees I ran into were very friendly.
We'll definitely stay here again anytime we're in Tahoe City.
Overall, this is a nice place to crash on a ski weekend. The staff was very nice, it was quiet and the bed was surprisingly good. But, it is a Travelodge, so it's no frills. Our room only had a stand-up shower (no tub) and was a little outdated. But it was comfortable. We paid about $120 a night, which is a more than I like to pay for no-frills lodging, but I guess that's the name of the game around here.
Guess I expected more (a Microwave?) for the money, but it was generally an OK place. Why do these places advertise a pool then close it for the winter? Staff was shocked when I asked to use a Microwave in the office (I didn't) . Turning off the noisy fan forced heater at night was a no go. It would strangely come on and blow ice cold air out. I always bring my own silent heater with me to motels . I tried to use their discount card (deemed necessary on the net website) but they said "not needed".
I wonder? Ski weekend stay. $130. Adult and child.
