Clean clean clean! My boyfriend and I come here every time we make the SD trip. Walking distance from the Gaslamp and the most reasonably priced hotel in the area. Chic design, and great for a few night stay. The only down side is finding parking, there is a lot across the street that charges $15 for 24hrs, but I really do love this place!

You get what you pay for.

The rooms are extremely small and if I'm telling you that the room is small, the bathroom is TINY. While you get everything in a hotel, there's just no space in the room for anything. I did get a great room though. It was facing the street and I could see my rental car, just in case anything happened.

There is no parking, you park on the street only if you can find it. Or you can park in the parking lot across the street for like $7 bucks. That probably sucked the most. The day I was checking-out, the night before I parked on the street and the next morning, my rental car was boxed in so tight... I was so scared I was going to miss my flight home.

Their elevators have an UNBEARABLE stench, so I took the stairs after that one use. Plus it's great exercise anyways, haha.

Breakfast? Bagel, toast, oatmeal, apple or orange, or cereal. Drinks was tea or orange juice. It wasn't the best, but it was good enough.

The bed and pillow were hard. The blankets were also stiff and everything had a harsh bleach smell to it. But it wasn't hard to sleep on, obviously when I was asleep, I didn't care. The best part was that I didn't wake up with any pains, THANK GOODNESS. I wouldn't want pains on vacation.

Overall the hotel was just OK. For the price, I would definitely use this hotel again.

The only reason why I didn't give this place more stars is because the front desk lady. This younger, skinny looking Hispanic lady was working when I was checking-in and I swear, she was smacking her gum so hard that I didn't even want to listen to a word she was saying. It was the rudest thing to ever do. That's just customer service 101, DON'T chew gum while talking to customers. It's annoying and unprofessional. I wanted to jump over the counter and slap the gum out of her mouth. I was so pissed that every time I needed to talk to someone at the front desk, I would talk to anyone else but her. She should have known better. If your breath stinks, pop a mint or something.

EXTREMELY SMALL ROOMS.  ANTS. MUSKY SMELL. HAIRS ON PILLOWS. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Those would be the 1st words that come to mind about my experience at this hotel last night, and I am in total shocked after reading everyone's reviews about how great this hotel is.  THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!

We stayed there last night mainly because the price was decent and it was 15 min. walk to gaslamp, and we got tickets to celebrate new years at a club called Fluxx.  We found this spot online and from what we saw online, the place looked fairly decent - until we saw it in  person.

Our room was so small, but I guess for the type of place we stayed in, we knew not to expect much - and to our surprise, it was worse than we thought.  The gold bedcovers looked like they might have been there since the 1970's, it looked as musky as the room smelled.  There was no bathroom door - instead, there was a plastic accodian curtain.  Not sure why, but there was a huge walk in closet, and inside was a mini fridge with a microwave on top.  Right outside of the closet  was a vanity that had ants crawling on the wall and desk.  For $140, I was hoping we'd get something above a Motel6 in San Diego, but actually its worse.   If you are planning on getting a late check out, expect to be out by 11:30a.m. - we got lucky and they stretched it to 12.

The only pros I can say about this spot is that the walking distance to all the bars is bearable, but it sucks, especially if you're a girl in heels, the tv's are nice, and the landscaping and courtyard area is nice.  Dont let the photos on their website fool you.  If you don't mind a cheap place to rest your head and don't care about raunchy rooms for a night,  this would be a good spot.

My girlfriend and I stayed here on a Saturday night and have to say the America's Best Value Inn on 4th St. was the perfect choice for a one night stop.  Although our room was small (as previously mentioned in another review), it was clean, well kept, and very comfortable.  The bed was a great night's sleep, the flat screen television had a lot of channels to browse, and the air conditioner kicked ass.

A word on customer service: Bobby, who works the front desk, is awesome.  Not only did he greet us with a smile, but he checked us in quickly, helped us find parking (he actually walked out onto the street with us), and gave the America's Inn that "personal touch" that most hotels are lacking these days.  He was even kind enough to give me my AAA discount AFTER I had forgotten to mention it.

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to anybody visiting San Diego for a short stay.  It is located near the airport, so planes are flying overhead frequently, but you can't fault the hotel for this minor inconvenience.  Personally, I thought it was pretty cool watching the planes fly by!

After trying to find a hotel that was within walking distance to the Gaslamp for a reasonable price on a Saturday, I had given up hope on finding anything that was under $150 not including tax or parking.  Then my boyfriend told me he found one for $99.  Instantly I questioned the quality of the hotel that we were getting, and how far it actually was from the Gaslamp and Petco Park. After looking at a map, it showed only .8 miles from the Gaslamp and 1.5 miles or so from Petco.

Though still skeptical we booked America's Best Value Inn, because, well, it was the best value we could find.

When we got to the hotel we were very pleasantly surprised.  We were able to find parking behind the hotel on Fir that had no signs and was free, which was waaay better than the $30 I was told to expect to pay in Downtown.   If you can't find street parking, there is a pay lot across from the hotel, but I'm not positive how much it was.

The motel itself is actually very nice.  It looks newly painted on the outside, with a cute courtyard in the middle.  It isn't very large, only about 5 floors and 10-20 rooms per floor that I could tell.  The man who checked us in was extremely friendly, helped us find the closest liquor shop (one block down Elm) and gave us a AAA discount for an additional $10 off.  Total after taxes our bill came to $100.

Our room itself was tiny.  They described it as a "studio" which could be the description used for almost any hotel room, but here I think studio was a euphemism for "extremely tiny"  It fit the bed, and that was about it. But for $100 I didn't mind the lack of space.  The room did come with a microwave and a refrigerator in the bathroom/kitchen area.  The room also came with a nice flat screen tv, and they have free wifi!

We walked across the the freeway (its an overpass not an underpass walkway, which seems just so much less sketchy) and it really didn't take long at all to get to the heart of San Diego.  We also walked to Petco park the next day, though we needed to stop for a beer on the way.

Needless to say, if you want a great value and aren't too picky about where you stay, this is a great hotel to book if you want to discover Downtown San Diego!

I stayed here for six nights, and am glad that I did.  The room was clean, the housekeeping staff was attentive, the front desk staff was helpful, the continental type breakfast was good enough, and best of all, the price was right.

There are a few downsides.  It's a little noisy if you're on one of the first four floors, as the noise from the people above you is definitely there.  The airport is also really close, so you hear the planes often.  And it's a bit of a hike to get to the better parts of downtown.  Each day I was heading south to go to either Petco Park, the waterfront, or just some restaurants in the downtown area, so you had a bit of a walk if you don't have a car.  For me, that's not a big deal, but it can get a little tiresome.

Overall though, for the price, this is a great place and I would probably stay here again because I don't know if you can get a better bang for your buck elsewhere.  Too much further south and you're likely paying a lot more per night.

I would recommend staying at this hotel for a ONE NIGHTER ONLY. If staying for more than a night, I would stay elsewhere and pay extra money for a well known hotel.

The rooms are small here and don't have many luxuries other hotels have. On the positive side, my friend and I didn't run into any serious downfalls during our stay but then again, you get what you pay for.

Off the bat, walking distance to Gaslamp is about a mile away.  My friend and I walked to our destinations when the sun was down, so it wasn't too bad..  Although, if it is scorching hot your better off taking a taxi..

Here are some facts to consider:

-No hotel parking lot or garage (you'll have to park across the street in a lot that charges $15 a day or so or you can get lucky like my buddy and I and find free parking along the street.  Beware though as some street parking have restrictions. Read the signs!)

-You will frequently see planes fly above the hotel because of a nearby airport, but it didn't disturb us while in the room

-Will find homeless people posted up at random spots (you'll pass them all once into gaslamp)

This hotel is super cute. Retro, clean, quaint and affordable. You can't beat the location for the price. Walking distance to tons of downtown fun and balboa park. I used to live in San Diego so I know what is a good location. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Bobby is the best! He upgraded my husband and I to a queen with a view and that was an awesome way to be greeted after 6 hours of traveling. Just an extra FYI: the rooms are a great size for folks planning to spend their time out on the town or in the amazing San Diego sun (like me), but are probably a bit cozy for someone looking to hang out in their room for their whole stay. I will stay here again! :)

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two days and were very pleased with the accommodations. The price was reasonable, the rooms clean, and the staff friendly. The front desk attendant Bobby Scott was particularly helpful in providing ideas, directiions, and pointers on what to do, where to go, and what to see during our visit. The hotel is lucky to have a guy like him at the front desk.

While this hotel does have planes flying overhead this did not detract from our ability to sleep at night. We were able to walk to the Gaslamp District and a cab back to the hotel came to about $8. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who doesn't plan on spending a lot of time in the room. The rooms are small but very functional and clean. The air conditioning works great and the shower was nice. The continental breakfast was also better than expected. We will stay here again on our next trip. :)

Enjoyed my stay. Rooms are kind of small. Staff was friendly. Conveniently located close to the Gaslamp Quarter (was a bit of a walk) but would definitely stay here again!!
