Review from Amelie K.
San Francisco, CA
I recently stopped here with a friend of mine on our one night of rest traveling across the country from CA to LA. We were exhausted and hungry when we got there and David immediately got us a wonderful room with 2 queen beds for $59! It was clean, warm and super comfortable. He also gave me chips and salsa so that I wouldnt fall over and recommended places for us to eat.
When finding a place online for that cheap you never really know what to expect. This was a great surprise to have such a wonderful experience and I would definitely go back. -

You can't not love David and Elena! I met them for the first time yesterday and I couldn't be happier to have enjoyed their hospitality. I wish there was more people, and businesses, like this!
The place was comfortable, clean and fun! They run with a chili theme and it works! In fact, they even have a giant chili pepper out front!
It was completely affordable ($59/night for two full beds). I might just have to make the road trip again sometime soon.
This place is not luxurious but it is refreshingly down to earth. Most importantly, I felt at home and I feel like I made new friends.
A very pleasurable experience. -

This hotel is a true gem. The owners are kind and interesting people that have clearly poured a lot of love and creativity into this charming and extremely reasonably priced hotel. The lobby and courtyard are filled with gorgeous plants and there is a cool, quirky chile pepper motif that really helps the hotel stand out from all the others nearby. They've got free wi-fi, a lovely pool and nice continental breakfast.
The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean, quiet and well appointed. Here's a small detail that really impressed me. There were two or three power strips at the room's outlets, making it possible to charge and power up all necessary devices for another day of travel without having to move bedside tables or unplug extra lamps, etc. Just one example of the thought that David and Elina have put into the place.
The plate of chips and salsa and a few slices of delicious mango upon check-in were the real icing on the cake for me.
This hotel has made my short list. So nice to know that I can stay here on my semi-annual treks between CA and FL. See you guys again soon. -

Stayed at this place on my way from Austin to California based the other Yelp reviews.
Excellent customer service by the owners. Free WiFi, good tv channels, warm clean room, cool decorations makes you feel right at home, got chips and salsa when I checked in. Everything I needed, basic and clean accommodations, would say here again with out question. Highly recommended for $49 bucks. -

Definitely a cut above a budget hotel. Plus, there's a GIANT chili pepper covered in white Christmas lights out front. Awesome.
Upon entering, a very car-weary Hangover Cat was warmly greeted by the proprietors. They set her and her favourite feline companion up with a room and while one of the owners explained the complimentary wi-fi, the other rushed off to turn on the heat to mitigate the freezing cold winds blowing outside. Free chips & salsa and grapes were a lovely token.
Bed's a little firm but, let's not kid, I've been driving for 11 hours and it's a warm, clean, inviting place to crash. Can't complain even a little bit. -

Beware, this place is horrible, not in good section of town! I got lured into staying at this place from the reviews here and on Trip Advisor. All those positive reviews for this place? There is something wrong this place is a one star. Rooms are furnished with old outdated furniture, bedding is mis-matched and not hotel industry linens, mattress hard, cheap quality. Blankets are ? Can't even describe them! Towels are mis-matched, dirty looking with no thread left. It's a disgrace all those positive reviews. I checked into the Bates Motel. Rested my eyes for a short time and left.

Two friends and I traveled to the area to take part in the annual Bataan Death March. We found this this hotel online and knew nothing about it. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is family owned and the friendly and helpful aspect to our stay was fantastic. Without being asked, the owner personally brought us chips and salsa at the pool! What more can you ask for!

Great value, very friendly and helpful owners, and a medium walk to the High Desert Brewery. Best $50 motel experience I can recall.

We chose this hotel for it's great reivews on Trip adviser, and some of the yelp reviews. YES it's true its a great deal for what you get. And what you get a is "Family Owned Business" The owner kept letting us know that every other word he would say. You get a bed that is as hard as a cement floor, pillows that are toooooo soft you wake up with a sore shoulder and neck.
It wasn't all bad they have a parking lot that has a gate that closes at night, and your car is safe on the other side. It's quiet and the water is hot! It's a place to stay.Comment from David G. of Americas Best Value Inn 12/8/2011

The owner David would not rent a room to my partner and I, as he has a strict policy against renting to "locals." However, I believe that he just didn't want to rent a room to a gay couple based on his own bigotry. He originally lied to us, saying there were no rooms due to housekeeping problems. We pointed out that we called 15 minutes prior and were told there were plenty of vacancies. We had caught him in his own lie, and then he kept on saying "I don't want to make assumptions about you guys."
We are clearly not suspicious or dangerous individuals, and after the encounter I felt like I had been treated like a common criminal. I told all of my friends in the area about my experience and all of them were horrified and agreed never to stay there. Hope it was worth it, David.Comment from David G. of Americas Best Value Inn 1/24/2012

Stayed here on my drive cross country at Christmas with my dog.
Called ahead and reserved my room. Spoke with inn keeper David. Very pleasant man.
When I checked in I was greeted by David's wife and daughter.
Their daughter later brought me chips and salsa right to my room.
They checked me in. Gave me a ground floor room as I had requested.
Total price was $69 and that included a pet fee of $10.
The room was nice, warm, no bugs, no smoke smell, quiet.
TV worked just fine. Hot water and plumbing was perfect.
Free wifi and it worked great.
I left early the next day, office wasn't open but I merely locked up the room and left the key inside.
I would recommend this place to anyone traveling who needs a place to crash for the night especially if they are traveling with a pet. -

Spring, summer and fall I'm Mr.Trucker.This is one of my favorite little places to stay whenever I have some down time in southern New Mexico. If you like the road less traveled then you'll probably like this place.
A nice little poetic song somewhere backstage of the big road, Interstate 10.My last visit there was the aftermath of a vicious winter storm that wiped most of the beautiful landscaping the owner obviously spent many hours maintaining. There are at least two nice clean BBQ grills for chillin' and grilling' outside in the garden.Out front was the steel rebar structure of what will be the worlds largest chile! The garden and lobby are filled with a lot of quirky little pieces of art and craftwork. The rooms I've had had kingsize beds, microwave ovens and refrigerators plus full wall covering mirrors that could make some people uncomfortable (if they can't stand the sight of themselves!).
An adequate little waffle and cereal buffet in the lobby to compliment morning coffee.A grand piano on one side of the spacious lobby.A computer area on the other.Interesting and intelligent people to meet.Very reasonably priced.I just hope I can find other places like this one.A bit of serendipity. -

Cold watermelon chunks were brought to our room after we arrived at 9pm. David and Elina, the owners, are the reason I recommend ABVI. If you are travelling between Texas and California, it is an affordable and well run oasis. This place is exactly what it claims to be - a great value AND a clean, simple room with nice people.
We had just left a high end hotel in San Diego that frazzled my nerves with $12 a day WiFi and $30 a day parking. Both WiFi and parking were included in the price at ABVI. I wish we had stayed longer to learn more avout the giant chili pepper in the parking lot.....next time. -

I love this place! I stay here every time I travel between Austin and Los Angeles. The best things about this place are the decor (there is a huge chile in the front), the garden, the price, and overall, the friendly service from the owners. The first time I stopped there was some major remodeling going on. As of last week the work continues and I hope this place keeps getting better.

A friend and I arrived here (unwittingly) during the chile festival- finding a hotel with available rooms was a nightmare, and we spoke with David on the phone before arriving...he was great about giving directions and a warm welcome upon our arrival. You get what you pay for here, and I mean that in the best possible way. Prices are very reasonable, the no-frills rooms are clean, and the free breakfast is super basic (3 kinds of cereal, milk, coffee, and juice). Overall, we had a positive experience and I'd stay again.

After reading the other reviews, we were super excited about staying here. At first, it seemed true to form -- the owner did indeed bring us complimentary chips and salsa when we arrived.
After that, though, it was all downhill. We were given a handicap room, so the shower was regulated to not be too hot. This one, however, was hard-wired to COLD, and they didn't seem to care or be apologetic when we told them about it. They certainly didn't offer us any compensation.
The breakfast was unimpressive, even compared to other unimpressive continental breakfasts.
I bet most folks would have a slightly better experience, since they wouldn't stay in the cold shower room. But we're giving it a 3. It was okay. Nothing was wrong except for the cold shower, but we didn't experience a lot of the aspects folks were raving about in the other reviews, either.Comment from David G. of Americas Best Value Inn 12/28/2010

I'm way late on this, but need to catch up. I stayed at this motel twice on a road trip awhile back and was very pleased with the rates, the rooms, the conviviality of the staff, and pleased by the work the new owner is putting in to reviving one of the real great American motor hotel classics.
The rooms I had were clean and friendly (mine were on the quiet courtyard), but because of their recent renovation, didn't quite have everything working smoothly yet. I.e. recent plumbing work meant that it took a second for the water to make it to the sink after the tap was turned (the second time was fine, of course).
This will be my default overnight stop in Las Cruces from here on in.

We liked this place a lot. It's clean, economical, friendly and hip in a tacky kind of way. Starting with the world's largest chile pepper (50') outside, to a decorated Indonesian pedi cab in the lobby and chili theme decorations everywhere, this hotel is a labor of love. Don't expect a lot of amenities, although there was a wall size mirror in our room and the owner brought us a plate of chips and salsa on arrival.

When you think Americas Best Value Inn, Amazing is not the first word that pops into your head. This hotel, however, is one of the best that I have stayed in...especially for the price.
We checked in at about 9pm and the young man behind the counter was nothing but helpful. The owner came by our room about a half hour later and offered us some fresh fruit...above and beyond! This is when we finally got to check out the courtyard. The owner's wife keeps an amazing garden and there's a great covered gazebo. It looks like a 5 star hotel!
If you're ever in Las Cruces and need a place to stay, definitely stay here. Well worth the $50. Great people and a beautiful place! -

I ended up here based on Don's strong review, especially the "real great American motor hotel classic" part. This piqued my curiosity.
I LOVE this place. It has charm, interest, and beauty. Very warm staff, good price, and personal touches. My room faced the courtyard which is home to a botanical garden cared for by one of the owners (with labels for the specimens!), and an Australian desert garden. So cool. Nice pool, fast wifi, fresh fruit. I had been traveling for days, and it was so refreshing to find a motel that wasn't made with a cookie cutter. I wandered around and took photos in the courtyard, because it was so unusual yet lovely. If you generally like hostels, you'll probably like this place. However, I should say, if you like things very orderly and predictable, you may not. It's slightly seedy, which is part of its charm to me.
Oh yeah, and this was the first motel room in 4 nights that didn't have a nasty stale cigarette smell (though they were all "non-smoking"). THAT was a relief.
Enjoy =) -

I'm a little late writing this, but I promised, so here goes.
After a debacle with our campsite (it being closed when we showed up) we needed a place to stay in a pinch. I got on my phone while we drove back into Las Cruces and began desperately searching for an affordable place that would put up 4 of us on a budget. It was mostly because of the previous reviews on here that made us call, then talking to David and getting an amazing price sealed the deal.
David and his wife Elina run a BEAUTIFUL place. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable, warm and friendly, we felt VIP as soon as we came into the lobby. David and Elina and thier staff were hilarious and awesome, they brought us some fresh fruit, showed us around the place. It was gorgeous and obviously very well cared-for, had a very nice pool. As mentioned in the previous reviews, there was nothing corporate or cookie-cutter about the place. It felt wholesome and run by a family of people who really care about what they're doing. The rooms were simple and clean and very comfy. The next day Elina gave me a tour of her beautiful garden (which she planted and maintains herself), complete with watermelon and cantaloupe, agave, and a huge assortment of domestic and Australian desert plants, all meticulously labeled. I especially loved her "sinking garden," where she has plants growing in old sink fixtures.
The breakfast was lovely and delicious. There was a computer available for us to check email, and when we needed to print out and fax some documents, they were extremely helpful, made everything easy. When it was finally time to leave, we felt like we were leaving friends. Elina and David even made sure we had their number in case we needed anything on the road, and when I look back on the ten days we spent driving through the southwest, this is a spot I will always remember as a highlight. There is no doubt in my mind where I'll be staying the next time I come thru Las Cruces. -
