4 reviews for America's Best Value Inn - Seaside South
I had to stay here due to an emergency that just happened to inconveniently fall on Labor Day weekend. I tried 4 other hotels prior to this and everything was booked. I thought since they were charging me $273 that the room would be decent. Boy was I WRONG.
It was in a horrible neighborhood with people partying all around. The phone was broken & I desperately needed it due to my emergency situation. The remote control was broken. The bathroom was really dirty, dusty with stains in the sink and tub. The furniture looked like it was for 1986 and was chipping and peeling. The coffee & condiments for the coffee seemed like it was at least 10 years old. There were 2 used wash cloths in the room when I got there. When I complained at the front, the employee seemed shocked that I had complaints and did not offer me anything to make me happy.
I have stayed at other REALLY nice hotels (ie: Four Seasons in E. Palo Alto) and paid less $$ than for this dive hotel that should have been $50 a night not $273. Ewwwww. Don't do it.
I stayed here this weekend. I got it through hotwire for $59/night + tax, total was about $73.
I was a bit worried when I read the reviews as everyone seemed to dislike the experience staying here. However, I actually had a great stay at this inn.
Of course, it is not a 5 stars hotel where the beddings are very luxurious with hotel amenities like sauna, swimming pool.. at this little inn.. none of those facilities exists. However, the room is very comfortable and quiet spacey.
When I called to confirm my reservation, I asked if I could get a king room, but the man told me "no." However, when I checked in, the same man who talked to me, remembered me and told me that he would give me the king room without any extra charges, how nice :)
The room had a small refrigerator and microwave and a small dining table. The bathroom was in a smaller size, but I like the fact that the vanity(sink) was outside the bathroom.
The free continental breakfast was nothing fancy..just some danish and pastries with hot tea/coffee....and if you go down to the lobby late..you might get whatever left...but it was ok.
The location of the inn was the best!!! It's about 5 minutes drive to the cannery row and monterey aquarium, but it's near the local neighborhood with lots of restaurants and safeway, local eateries...very convenient.
About two minutes drive and you get to the Del Monte beach, by the best western...awesome!!!
I was travelling on a budget, so this place was a great place to stay..absolutely :)..yes it's a bit older...the carpet especially..but heiii... you get what you pay for and this is overall a great budgeted place :)
Pretty gross. The floor was dirty, there was a pubic hair in the shower when I got there, it was disgusting.

If I could give zero stars here, I would. This place was disgusting. Seriously. I found this place on Expedia and will post my review there, too, because the reviews I found when I first booked this place made it sound pretty decent. We made reservations two months ahead of time, and, upon arrival, the guy at the front desk complained that Expedia had not sent them the booking confirmation, but, luckily, they had a room available for us. That should have been the first clue, as every other hotel in the area was booked solid for that weekend. We had paid for a room with two queens, but they didn't bother telling us that they didn't have that available, and gave us one with two doubles (there were 3 of us). We discovered this when we finally got checked in and took our bags to our room. They still charged us $250 a night and of course didn't offer a discount for not having the larger room available. Clue number two. We spend the day and evening driving around and eating out. When we finally decided to go back to the hotel and crash, we started to notice the details. The phone was broken. The wiFi was ridiculously unreliable - it literally dropped about every minute, the remote for the tv was gross and all the prompts were in Spanish only, the room was very small, and the bathroom sink was actually outside the bathroom. To make the space even more crowded, there was a kitchen table and chairs shoved up against the wall beside one of the beds. The dresser and night stand were super cheap and broken, the toiletries were ultra cheap, and the towels were worn and frayed. And there were only two of them for three people. The guy at the front desk did give us another when i went down and asked about it, but we were lucky to have noticed before everyone tried to shower. All through the night, there were people banging very loudly outside our door, causing everyone in the room to remain awake at all hours (when we had an engagement that required us all to be up at 7am), and someone thought that the space under our window was a convenient place to smoke, so, since the room was too stuffy to sleep with the windows closed, we had to put up with their smoking several times during the night.. 7am - the alarm clock goes off and we all line up to shower. The bathroom, besides being tiny, is seriously disgusting. Really old, soap scummy fixtures, cigarette burns on the tub and toilet, a thick layer of dust on every ledge, including those in the shower, no fan in the shower, pubic hairs on the vinly floor, grime in the shower, and, closing the shower curtain topped it all off. Extremely large quantities of large black mold all over the inside of the shower curtain. ick. I stayed in some pretty cheap places when I was a student driving across the country, but nothing has disgusted me as much as this. Oh - and the water was barely luke warm. What a nice wake-up. Needless to say, we all showered very quickly and none of us felt clean afterward. We decided that there was no way we could stay there again and had to cut our trip short. We went down to the hotel office to lodge our complaints and let them know we were checking out, and the dude at the counted refused to refund any of our money (he had made us pay for both days when we first checked in). He kept going on and on about how the owner wouldn't let him give refunds - when it was clear that he and his wife owned the place and lived in the rooms connected to the office. Oh - and he had the nerve to state that we were the only ones to complain - like that should make a difference. Needless to say, stay away from this place. You'll be severely disappointed.
